Found this little gem passing through town. Everything was wonderful and actually made from scratch. The Bierock was steaming hot and seasoned perfectly. The Rueben was huge and one of the best we've ever had. The town is really cute. Service was excellent.

Great little mom and pop restaurant where everything we had was delicious and very obviously homemade with care. The waitresses were friendly and accommodating. They have this cooler that has amazing looking homemade pies. Hubby got a piece of pumpkin pie to go and I got a homemade apricot kolache to go. You can't come to this part of the country with having a bierock! Mine was delicious. Homemade chips came with it. Our waitress told us her grandma, pointing to the kitchen has been making them from scratch for years. It was quite yummy!

Ordered the two egg breakfast with bacon and country potatoes and upgraded to biscuit and gravy instead of toast. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Fresh pies were just out of the oven so I got a slice of coconut cream to go along with an apricot kolache. Service was excellent and it started getting busy by the time I left but the server kept up with a smile and was so friendly. I can't wait to go back and might try to hit up the lunch buffet. Oh! This place is so clean! Even the bathroom was spotless!

The Bierock was GREAT and I'm so glad I got a chance to eat one. As for the restaurant itself, NOT! No mask or glove wearing by employees. They had a BUFFET! Like everybody goes up and gets what they want??? Crazy for these times. It was like nobody there believed there was a pandemic. SCARY!!!

    Bierrock with homemade potato chips

Good, basic comfort food with a slight German influence. There is a buffet available as well as a menu. The Bierrock was huge and had a nice flavor. There was only one server, but she was doing a pretty good job keeping up with the steady stream of customers. Nice country style atmosphere with lots of chicken decor. Nice stopping place a couple of miles off of I-70.

It's a crock, green beans from a can, yuk.

We did Not like the cherry pie. I spit out the crust mushy and tasteless. Way better pies cross town in Lucas. ( see my 5 star review) Green beans are canned ( made from scratch, my as.) Service was not friendly nor welcoming ( did we bother you or woke on the wrong side of bed, not just one but two people) Not impressed with the food sadly. Town was interesting, loved the Big Egg, thrift store and Inn.

Fried chicken lunch buffet was excellent. The French apple pie with homemade ice cream was outstanding. Very nice clean restaurant with delicious food!

The bartender, Courtney was fun and we had fun talking to a couple other customers about mutual friends from "back home" The room we stayed in was basically a small bedroom with a bathroom. The bed wasnt then best and you can hear other guests above or below but we slept ok. The free continental breakfast was a plus. Yummy blueberry scones! All in all it was a really cool stop! I'll be honest: Russell, Kansas, was not on my mental map of places to eat well. But fate (and…read moreYelp) intervened. Suddenly we were pushing open the door to Waudby's entering, notably, through the bar side, which felt charmingly unpretentious in a you-wouldn't-get-this-in-Manhattan sort of way. The space splits cleanly between lively bar energy and a quieter, separate dining room, which I deeply appreciated after hours on the road and approximately twelve internal monologues. Then, the food. Genuinely outstanding. I ordered the Philly, fully expecting road-trip decent, and instead received something delightful, indulgent, and as good as versions I've had in Pennsylvania neighborhoods where people argue loudly over sandwiches. But the true sleeper hit? The cornballs. Please, I beg you, do not pass on them. They are crispy, nostalgic, and perfect. The kind of globs of fried bliss you'll still be thinking about once you're home pretending to only eat salads. Waudby's is proof excellent food exists far beyond city zips, and I would absolutely return. If I find myself in Russell again, this is a mandatory stop. The waitress and servers were absolute sweeties. My friend adds: the homemade ranch dressing was so good, you could almost drink it.

The service matches the atmosphere perfectly: friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to help you navigate their creative menu. The food here is where things really take off. The steak & blue cheese salad was outstanding--fresh, bold, and packed with flavor. The ahi tuna poke nachos were another knockout, the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after you leave. And if you're a burger person, this place is dangerous in the best way. Their burgers are consistently amazing: juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Of course, you can't come to Gella's without enjoying their great beer, brewed right on site. Every pint feels like it was crafted to pair perfectly with the food. If you're in Hays, Gella's is a must‑visit. Creative dishes, great beer, beautiful space, and service that makes you feel right at home. An easy five stars.

Would have loved to bring up the fact that this chicken wing was completely RAW.. put it out by the card just waiting for the bartender to notice us/the chicken wing and she never did so we just paid and left. Hoping we don't get sick. The rest of the wings were cooked we just so happened to bust into to this one last.. Hello fellow yelpers!…read more Let me start by saying yes I am a local but If you're reading this you likely want somewhere to eat In russell so that sort of makes you a local too. If just for tonight. Ok let's address the elephant in the room. There are no reviews for this place however the former establishment in this location still has reviews that are active and have it show up first so no one scrolls down to this. So yes I've posted this review in both locations. So with that in mind. We will start with service. This place has a few of my favorite folks working here and they are all focused on making sure you have a good time and enjoy your visit. If there is room at the bar go ahead and belly up! We're friendly and the bar tenders are multi talented (food and drinks). If not or if you have a large group the tables are just fine too the waitstaff out there is great too. Soda is self service from the fountain with as many refills as you care to get. If something a little stronger strikes your fancy they have 5-6 taps with solid selections (avalanche, flight, michelob ultra, coots light etc). They also have a full bar with great mixed drinks if that's more you're speed. Now for the food. I typically gravitate towards the specials so I lay them out here. Monday: tacos! Believe it or not these are the best tacos in town. They make a fossil taco (similar to a double decker) in beef or chicken that is great! Or a smothered burrito that is also an excellent choice. Tuesday: my favorite! Wing night! No boneless junk wings here. These are the biggest juiciest wings in 3 counties. I cannot get enough! They have an array of sauces that will please anyone. If the wings aren't enough they also have 1.50 cans of your favorite beer. Wednesday: ok here's our first pizza night! Mediums are on special (7 or 8$ don't remember which) any way you want them. If you can't find a pizza you like here that's a you problem. I personally dig the firebox pizza. And a $1.75 draft to wash it all down. Thursday: varies so here we will talk About the rest menu in general. Salads, sandwiches, soups, pastas, oh an amazing appetizers (see more on this on Sunday). The special for Thursday varies but 2.50 well drinks are a staple. Friday: pizza take 2! 13$ large any way you want it. And $3.25 big drafts to finish the week of proper. Saturday: 9.99 double cheeseburgers! I find it remiss that I have yet to mention the burgers they are moist/flavorful and there are enough varieties to sate any burger lover. 12$ domestic buckets and Sometimes if your really lucky they have Karaoke. Sunday: funday! 2 for 10 appetizers. Tater kegs, rooster tails, fried mushrooms, egg rolls, mozzarella sticks, fried green beans mozzarella sticks! All awesome. The special rotates a bit but gizzards, lamb fires, pork tenderloin etc have made an appearance. Ok now for a plug for the waitstaff. Tracy, Sarah, Denise, Melissa and Mackayla all work very hard to make sure your drinks are full and your order is right. Stop in and say hello. It's a great place. Best in town. I have no affiliation with this location other than eating here way to often. I don't think about yelp very often when I home but after a recent trip I glanced through the local reviews and couldn't let it go without getting my review on the record.
