River Pool at Beacon - A floating pool, in the Hudson River

Enter: The River Pool. Designed for probably no more than 18-20 people, at first glance it looks like a big hot tub or trampoline in the River. In some ways it's a bit of both. You'll find it by meandering your way past the parking lot, beyond the sand volleyball courts, and past the basketball court to the aluminum ramp at the north edge of the park overlooking the bridge. Thankfully, the aluminum ramp means you don't need to climb sharp rocks or weed through lillypads to get into the water, instead you just walk right into the little rainbow colored plastic pool ring and land on a nylon netting that prevents you from walking on river mud. On a hot August day, it's a refreshing way to cool off and enjoy the park. You'd think that would make it busy, but in the prime afternoon heat on a Saturday, there were only 6 people in the pool, with a couple parents on the sidelines. Just in case you need a bit of privacy before getting in the pool, there are porta potties and even a curtained changing area. So many conveniences, and all without park fees. A gem for families in Beacon and for visitors who want to expand their stay beyond Dia and Main St. Bonus tip: go on Sunday and make a picnic from vendors at the local farmer's market on the river dock.

Depew Park - One of Peekskill's Hidden Gems!…read more I was here today with my grandson, and days like this remind me just how fortunate we are to have a place like Depew Park right here in Peekskill. There's so much space to enjoy, whether you're bringing the kids, exercising, playing sports, having a picnic, or simply looking for somewhere peaceful to spend some time outdoors. Depew really has a little bit of everything. There's the playground for the kids, Veterans Memorial Pool for those hot summer days, basketball and tennis courts, bocce courts, horseshoe pits, ball fields, a track, picnic areas, grills, restrooms, and a beautiful picnic pavilion overlooking Lake Mitchell. There are also wooded walking and nature trails that give you a completely different experience from the recreational side of the park. ‍ One of my favorite things about Depew is that you can go from watching kids play on the playground or people playing sports to walking into the wooded areas and feeling like you've gotten away from the city for a while. It's a great place to walk, exercise, explore, relax, or just sit and enjoy nature. The park is also home to Peekskill's Recreation Office and Mother Nature's Preschool, and the City continues to invest in improvements. The multi-sport field, track, tennis/pickleball areas and other recreational spaces make this a park that can really be enjoyed by people of all ages. But today, for me, it was simply about being here with my grandson. Making memories, enjoying the outdoors, and appreciating a beautiful local park right here in our own community. Depew Park is truly one of Peekskill's treasures. Whether you come to swim, play basketball or tennis, walk the trails, have a picnic, exercise, bring the kids to the playground, or simply enjoy a beautiful day outside, there's something here for everyone. Five stars from me -- and even better when you get to enjoy it with your grandson!

The parking lot was huge and it was a short walk to the entrance of the facility. I noticed there was a cafe called " Acorns" which had food and snacks and then saw bathroom facilities and showers ! It was just what i was looking for to post up and hang for a while. I will say, the showers are not the best kept, so have low expectations but there was hot water so it was exactly what i was looking for. There was a beautiful tree covered walkway down to the beach, which made it feel magical and it opened up to the lake. It wasn't the largest beach but it was perfect. The beach was really clean and lifeguards on duty. I' m so happy this place was recommended to me by a local Park Ranger when i asked for places to swim in the area. I was visiting Cold Spring for the day.

Only down side is no floating devices allowed. Social distancing ENFORCED and while at the sandy side you must be 10 feet apart. If you go use the restrooms you must wear your mask. No dogs allowed in the sand area. Overall nice lake to spend your summer in, they do have a strict limit of how many people/cars are allowed. When it gets over crowded in the weekend they will close admission for the day. Definitely best to go during the week to be safe. Otherwise, make sure to get there nice and early to guarantee admission. Open from 9-6
