My friend has been here before, but it had been a while so we both had fun exploring this small city's old town area. We did a bit of shopping as well which added much to our enjoyment. Auburn, CA is also nicknamed "Endurance Capital of the World" due to its popularity with trail running sports enthusiasts. Auburn is also on Placer County Wine Trail. While this area is not as well known as Napa Valley, it offers more relax and less crowded experience. Wineries around here are usually smaller, family-run and independent (not corporate.) Different types of varietals include Italian (Barbera, Sangiovese, Zinfandel); Spanish (Tempranillo); Rhône blends (petite sirah, Syrah, etc); Bordeaux's (Cabernet franc, Malbec, and Sauvignon Blanc).

The downtown area has lots of " touristy" shops and parking is a premium on the weekends. Nevertheless, it has a really nice old town vibe that kind of brings you back pre-Mayberry. Golden Gate Bridge of CSUS…read more Located between Campus Commons and Sac State, this bridge is a great shortcut if you are looking at parking outside of the school area. It's a great stop to get on to the trails on weekends and is much better for pedestrians then the J street or Howe Bridge. Another underrated aspect is how brought the structure is at night great for getting on campus and feeling pretty safe crossing. Also a good spot for pictures. Defintely worth checking out if you are in the area!

Carmichael was where I called home for about 4 years and really loved living here it's a pretty quite town for the most part. There Carmichael Park which has a nice sized dog park and nice sized tennis courts and every Sunday where you can enjoy the Farmers Market. There are also small neighborhood park like Jan Dr Park, Gibbons park and Maddox Park. There and nice shopping centers and nice family owned Restaurants around and one of my favorite coffee shops Boulevard Coffee and now they have a Dutch Bros! There also the La Sierra community center for activities and many classes for Adults as well as for the kiddos too! They also do the 4th of July Fireworks show nearby as well. Most people just watch from the Big Lots Parking lot located on Fair Oaks Blvd and Engle Rd. It is a lot more things to do in Lincoln now! Lincoln has wine-tasting and craft brewery tours where you can enjoy some of your favorite drinks when you're there. The golf courses in Lincoln are pretty famous too. Thunder Valley Casino Resort is one of the biggest casino resorts in Northern California. You can enjoy the restaurants and concerts even if you're not going to gamble in the casino. The City of Lincoln also has one of the most significant retirement communities - Sun City. The area is gorgeous, super convenient, and relaxed. They also have many excellent restaurants and are so close to the shopping area in Roseville.

I think people who come here are are mostly young families willing to drive an extra distance to Sacramento for school districts and retired people no longer commuting. If you belong to either group of people you will love Lincoln and its small town feel. Lincoln is to Sacramento what Tracy is to the Bay Area. Its just a little out there and so larger shopping or attractions will take a 5 or 10 mile trip to the bigger city - the closest one being Roseville. Mello Roos - yes please. Your gonna love it. The only way to avoid it is the outskirts of Lincoln. But in general Mello Roos and Lincoln go hand in hand. No SMUD either - so expect a slightly higher electric bill. Luckily all new builds seem to include solar. Thunder Valley. You can't talk about Lincoln and not include a mention to this huge landmark. You can see it from the main highway. The lit up hotel tower sticks out as it is in the middle of nowhere. Noteworthy is also the new music venue. Historic clay pipe business downtown. A must see attraction. Incredible how long they have been in business and their reach in how they supply so much so far a distance. Fun for the whole family. Lincoln is a great place. One of the fastest growing cities and for good reason.

This year they had a wonderful car show, plant sell, clothing and jewelry vendors, kid fun area, food trucks and also the wonderful restaurant, shops and bars in Fair Oaks Village. This is a awesome event for everyone, but I missed all the live music in previous years. I only heard one band play for a short moment...Remember music brings everyone together. I hope next year they bring back the main stage and the far end of the street.... back with some great local bands.

The Fair Oaks Spring Fest - or Fair Oaks Fiesta as the natives call it - has been a yearly May…read moretradition in old-town Fair Oaks since at least the 60's. My mom has a picture of me from 1971 or so marching as a cub-scout in the parade. Back then it was your standard local parade and carnival ride affair - but in the past couple decades it has morphed into a combined 5 mile/5k Sun Run, kiddie carnival, food fair, toilet bowl race, street car show, things like celebrity look-a-like contests and bicycle air-shows, and a frog jumping contest. The toilet bowl race is hysterical and pretty out-of-control. You can bring your own frog or use one of their's in the frog jumping contest. The kiddie rides have a nice selection of home-spun and carnival type stuff - pretty good bang for the buck. The footrace is large and well organized - with plenty of swag for the runners. There is something for everyone in this family-oriented local festival. Check the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce Calendar when next May rolls around.
