Then he dropped off the map and decided not to return texts or e-mails until almost two weeks later. As a fifteen year resident of Boston and parts throughout, I am in strict agreement with the general consensus that rental agents are subpar professionals. I've dealt with too many in my time and have made it my policy to avoid them at all costs, thereby avoiding the fee as well. George Krodel of Town Property Group did not change my opinion about rental agents, BUT he did prove that there can be exceptions to the rule. While I'm still not a fan of paying a full month's rent as a fee, I was actually happy to pay him for the time and effort he spent assisting my girlfriend and I in finding a place we could call home. I worked with Daniel Lee, and I have to say it was a nice change from a lot of the other realtors I've worked with in the past in Boston. To say most realty groups are like skeezy used car salesman would not be an exaggeration, but I didn't find this vibe at Town Property Group. Their office seemed clean, well organized and professional. I found a listing on a Friday afternoon, called Daniel and he was able to get me a showing that night. He didn't try to pressure me to see other places when I made it clear I was only interested in the one listing. He was cheerful and informative when we viewed the apartment, and was able to work with me to get all the pieces of the application in process so that I wouldn't lose the listing. I just wanted to share my experience with TPG because I've seen some pretty polarizing reviews here. TPG is a smaller realty group, but it seems like they work harder to make up for it. I worked with CJ and he was extremely flexible in setting up showings. I ended up finding a great apartment within all of my parameters within a week of the first showing. The application process was quick, and the move-in process/key pick-up was also easy. Six months later, I had to break my lease and CJ helped me through that process as well, helping to minimize the monetary penalties. I give CJ 12/10, would rent with again. read more

I did not end up renting an apartment from CJ Lee but wanted to come here and commend him for his great work ethic and "no pressure" attitude. He showed me two apartments, opened the door and let me do my thing rather than shadow me for the whole duration of my viewing spouting reasons why I'd be getting such a good deal. If all real estate agents in Boston were like CJ maybe moving wouldn't be such a hellish experience. He is transparent in his discussions which we also appreciated. Absolutely horrendous. I told my broker Dave Bussison my requirements, among which a cat-friendly apartment was one, and he lied to me about the place I ultimately rented! Because I immediately submitted a deposit on the apartment upon seeing it, he continued to tell me that I shouldn't even mention the cat that would live with me, but that "they won't even notice." When I voiced concerns upon learning that pets weren't allowed without notice, he actively told me not to mention anything and that "it would be fine." I foolishly trusted him. Less than 2 weeks after moving in, maintenance came to visit my apartment and the landowner emailed me a "violation of lease" notice. I had to find a temporary home for my cat and will have to find a new home now. He just cost me more time and money than the one month's rent I paid for his fee! I'm demanding a refund and encouraging everyone not to use this brokerage. They don't care about their clients or the properties they list. read more

I was emailing with Dave. I came in for an appointment at the time we BOTH agreed on and he looked at me like I had three eyeballs. No one in the whole office bothered to greet us when we walked in. After telling me I was in the wrong because I didn't send an email with my phone number (which I did) I decided that there were a million mediocre rental agents I could work with and I could at least find a mediocre agent to be nice to me. We recently found an apartment through John Chai. I had emailed for a bunch of properties from CL, and most of them were listed with TPG. None of the ones they showed us were what I emailed about, but I guess that is expected since the apartments go so quickly. He was very personable, easy to schedule with, and found us a great apartment. He even met with us last minute so we could look at the property again. Overall the process was easy, and well worth our time. Also, out of all the real estate agencies in the area, this seemed to be more organized/professional as they were all fast responders, had an appealing office, and were overall a good company. read more

He not only told us that our place accepted dogs (which they don't, and ruined my roommate's plans of getting a puppy), but he also expressed that we absolutely did not have oil heat. After we signed the lease, and now that winter is upon us, we find out we have to order oil and are pissed beyond belief. We have baseboard heating, which leads one to think everything is electric, but Dave had no idea what he was talking about. CHECK ALL DETAILS THREE TIMES when working with Dave and get everything in writing, and if you can help it, DON'T WORK WITH DAVE. read more

We viewed 2 units located within the same building, and could not decide which one to submit an application for. George came in from out of town on a weekend to show us both apartments a second time and was completely awesome about it. Second showings are the bane of every RE agent's existence, but you would never have known it by his cheerful manner. I currently have CJ as my agent and I would really recommend him as he is amazingly friendly, SUPER EFFICIENT and very easy to communicate with on the daily basis as he is quick to respond via email/text/call. He is also super hardworking and makes himself available asap when there is a problem or potential apartment opening :D However, there was one hiccup with the apartment amenities - laundry was discussed and said to be "in the building" when in fact it was in the building next to us. I found my first (and current) apartment through Daniel Lee while Exit Realty was transitioning into Town Property Group. Daniel was extremely helpful with our specific needs (three residents looking for two bedrooms, a strict budget, and necessary public transportation) and helped us find the perfect space. Plus, when we moved into our space six months later (we were early lease signers), Daniel recognized us, greeted us, and grabbed our keys without needing to look up our information. This past spring we decided on a bigger space to accommodate an additional roommate and Daniel was more than happy to help us again! While we have had not-so-great experiences with other TPG realtors - hence the docked star - Daniel has been superb all around and we are so pleased to have worked with a real professional. To speak of TPG itself, I would recommend this business to college students or young professionals looking to work on a budget. They preview a lot of properties that involve split bedroom situations, heat/hot water included, and limited broker's fees. They offer some of the lowest-priced rentals in Allston/Brighton and are generally very responsive. While other realtors tend to "push" apartments on you - "Sign the lease today, this apartment won't be on the market tomorrow!!" - TPG is very relaxed and makes sure you make a decision when it's right for you. However, if you move up a tier to a higher budget, you may no longer be able to find what you're looking for. All in all, though, we had an excellent experience and look forward to working with TPG again. read more

Very unprofessional I started off dealing with Henrique who knew absolutely nothing about the housing questions I was asking, he told me 1st I would only pay security, the 1st and security, and then told me his boss would speak to me about that. After telling me he would e-mail a application by the end of the business day because he was unprepared and didn't have any on hand it still took two days to get an application. After filling out the application it took days for him to figure out what I should do with the application, I got tired of waiting so I called the boss Sam. I gave him all the information he needed and continuously had to call or text about the status of my paperwork. Some paperwork needed to be resigned on 9/19 I was told I would have the papers by the following Wednesday. The following Thursday I received a text NOT A PHONE CALL BUT A TEXT from Sam telling me the owner did not want to tie up the unit any longer and did not want to go with me. I wasted a month of my time dealing with them they took deposits that could have been used for something else and now I have an inquiry on my credit report for nothing I will never so business with them again and I will urge my friends and anyone else to run far far away read more

Daniel was incredibly helpful with our apartment search! We inquired about an ad on Craigslist and he quickly responded. He showed us this apartment in addition to others in the same price range. We ended up liking the one we had originally seen the ad for and as soon as we let him know, he said we could come into his office as soon as possible and fill out an application. We needed to find a cosigner, and he regularly checked up to see how we were doing. Unfortunately, we were unable to find one, but he then helped us to find other ways to prove that we could afford the apartment. He was always very considerate and timely in his responses. We went through John Chai after driving up from Pittsburgh for an apartments starting in May/June. John was great and we ended up getting an apartment through him that is awesome and within budget. He had several apartments for us to view (despite the off start date), did not push us to go above our budget, and allowed us to look around the place without giving a sales pitch. The only downside is some places require a brokers fee, but there's not a whole lot you can do about that with Boston Real Estate and John was upfront about move in cost. The first time I was supposed to meet with John Chai, he was over 40 minutes late and I was very upset. The woman at the front of the office was very nice and polite and understood my frustration and called him multiple times for me. When he came in, he was very apologetic, but I was skeptical. After that initial bump, John was great about everything else. The first place he showed me was one that I loved and my roommate and I immediately started the paperwork for it. John was incredibly helpful as I had never rented an apartment before. He let me come in last minute because my power had gone out and printed me the paperwork and even let me use their computer to check my finances so I could put down the first month as soon as possible. Do NOOOOOOOT work with Dave! It's such a shame because the other realtors in the business seem to be generally competent; but Dave is a complete nightmare. He continually forgets appointment times, is always rushed and very pushy about deciding on properties, not flexible at all. He's extremely rude in email correspondence and on the phone, but always has his tail between his legs when you come into the office to clear things up. Not sure what his problem is. He is not a good person. If you can help it, do not work with him. If you end up working with Dave as some stroke of bad luck, you don't want the property anyway. Trust me. read more
