Yesterday was really hot, and we had originally planned on eating somewhere else. Since we had our dog with us, outdoor seating was a must, and the first spot just didn't have a great setup. We randomly parked beside this restaurant and noticed their outdoor patio, which looked absolutely inviting. It was shaded, relaxing, and best of all, not crowded. My wife had the burger and fries, and the burger was actually cooked to the temperature she ordered and seasoned really well. I had a toasted chicken salad sandwich, which was excellent. They also made me an amaretto sour, which was fairly priced and hit the spot. Overall, we would 100% go back. The ambiance & Caleb, our Server- great. The 1/2 chicken was served with the peas in a shell which had huge strings - Mama & Papa always taught us to string those before serving. The chicken was good and tender. Desert was ok. Was not a homemade brownie and ice cream was so/so. Got to go out with a BANG - and this desert was not that. Better luck next time. Ok, I know 2 years ago I was high on it but not anymore. The food quality is still up there but there are things you all should know. The menu is somewhat limited, there are no appetizers. Management has decided to let intimidation fly by giving all the wait staff those hand held credit card readers that have suggested tips. When you pay the lowest suggested tip is, get this, 22.5%, next is 25 %, then 30%. What is going on? I remember, I'm old, when 10% was in vogue then we transitioned to 15% to 18% which I'm ok with. Today I traditionally tip 20%, but it bothers me when you're tipping on tax. Enough rant, just be prepared to hit custom tip! read more

I like this place a lot. I just discovered this after a year of eating out regularly everywhere else and I appreciate the broad choices of dishes. What I have tried so far in dining there in 3 times in one week, did not disappoint. The bar section, tables or bar seating itself is most enjoyable and has a great vibe, and you will find you are not alone eating lunch or dinner right at the bar. The servers are awesome. Out of curiosity I will try the restaurant area itself, for no other reason than to say, I have done it. Plenty of parking. Plenty to like. Nothing to dislike. The food and service were excellent! The atmosphere was good, nothing special but just fine! My only complaint is the pricing- everything just seemed to be priced much higher than it needed to be. I'm sure this place has a hiccup now and again but in 2 years of frequently going to restaurant I can say I have never been disappointed. The food is amazing and the cocktails are even better. They have a fine chef that frequently changes the menu depending on the season but if your favorite goes off the menu it is sure to come back and in the mean time enjoy a new favorite. Even the burgers and fries are a next level above other restaurant burgers. They order and blend their meats to the chef's expertise. Weekend last usually has local musical entertainment. Good time visiting the restaurant. The restaurant was not super packed but just like every restaurant it is considered packed/busy. The shrimp/crab appetizer was great. Service was good. Be very very careful. I do here often and the food is hit and miss. I recently went with good friends and when it came time to pay the bill we split it as usual. High Prices, Mediocre Food, disinterested service. We've eaten here 5-6 times under the new management- and it's been VERY inconsistent. Came for dinner on Saturday night and sat at the bar. It's was clear ther staff was more interested in the live entertainment outside. I ordered the special- a steak, medium rare. Wife ordered a sandwich. Food came 30min later and it was clear my wife's sandwich sat for about 15min waiting on my steak to be sine because it was cold and soggy. Steak was overdone (ordered medium rare and it was cooked medium well and DRY). Even though there was only 2 other people sitting at the bar, our "server" never bothered to check on us after the food was delivered or even after we asked for the check. We had plans to meet folks after dinner and as long as it took for the food to come out wrong- no way did we have time to wait for them to try to fix it (not that they offered). It's too bad because we HAVE had wonderful meals here- with great service. If we come back we will make sure to sit in the dining room- and hope for more attentive service at least. read more

This place is awesome! And not just because, yes, they "know it's a ‍" (lol, inside joke, you'll know after the visit) but because the food was SO good! My husband said that "it was the best piece of meat he had in a looong time". My miso salmon was excellent, perfectly cooked. The apple cider was just what I needed after a hard day working in the yard. But the absolutely best part of our visit was our waitress Abby (little) - she was absolutely amazing! Super professional, very efficient and a wonderful human being, just can't say enough how much we enjoyed our dinner because of her! Hope the managers of the bistro know what a gem they have working there! Anyway, highly recommend the place and will certainly return as well. read more

We tried to sit and eat around 2:30 today on Black Friday which is a very busy day for downtown. We were told that they close from 3-4 and we could not be seated. This is a little ridiculous as they should expect to be busy all day. Stagger your staff's shifts to leave at a staggered time instead of the entire restaurant closing for an hour on such a busy day. read more

Had a delicious lunch. Kai the lovely bartender took care and explained different menu items for us. We loved the perfectly sweet iced tea. Both of us had the harissa fried chicken club sandwich topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo, cheddar, and a pile of hot crispy bacon, we had seasoned French fries for our sides. Sandwich is big and I have a half leftover for a snack later! Very nice atmosphere. So clean and quiet, with great staff!( see the entry way photo)! I was really looking forward to this restaurant since I love The River House and it's the same owner. I was surprised when we got there and we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. The restaurant was half empty so I figured not enough staff. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because of our server's good service. However the restaurant closes at 9 pm. We had paid and it was 20 minutes to closing. They were already cleaning which was fine but the manager came to our table with a sour face to ask us twice if we needed anything else. Basically we felt kick out. I even told my party in front of the manager "they want us out". We left at 8:45. Truly disappointed won't be back. read more

We were really excited when they bought that Tavern and made it a Red Dig Bar and Bistro. Well we were seated and given the menus. We had plenty of time to look the food and drink menu over as no one came to take our drink order or any other order. We were so disappointed at the food options! We tried we really did to find something we wanted to order but in the end we got up and left still no one cane to our table. I'm sure the burgers would have been good but we weren't interested and the cauliflower pieces didn't work as well. My husband and I went here for the first time and it was AWESOME! We were seated as soon as we walked in and a server came to our table within 30 seconds! We both ordered chicken wings and a side salad. The wings were the best I've ever had and had obviously just been cooked. They were hot and SO good. The salad was fresh and much bigger than I expected given that it was a side salad. Our server checked on us numerous times to see if we needed anything at all. Someone else, we assumed was the manager, checked on us 2-3 times also. The ambiance was perfect. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean, which is a big deal for us. We tried the new restaurant after many years of frequenting The Tavern. Unfortunately there seems to be no incentive to attract locals. To start the menu is lacking some favorites. I understand it is a different restaurant but the prices went up for fan favorites such as salad with add on chicken. If I can get the same salad in the NE with an ocean view for the same price or less, you're charging too much. Drink prices are way out of line for the norm. If you're charging $12 for a shot of brand vodka and you get 34 shots that bottle becomes $408 at a cost of $45 to the business. Yes, that price is WAY out of line. No happy hour or any draw to those who were once regulars. We went twice and won't be going back. Keep in mind, not everyone is a tourist. read more

I have eaten at the West Jefferson location 3 times. I want to say that I want this restaurant to be successful, so any negative comments I make will, I hope, help them to improve. We have always had good service. The waitstaff is young (many in high school or recently out of high school) but they are friendly and willing to help you. The ambiance is as you would expect, booths, some tables, a bar in the next room. It is clean. Now the food. The hamburgers I have tasted are delicious. They have regular fries, I wish they also had sweet potato fries. The first two times I had the catfish Reuben sandwich, something I had never heard of, and it was delicious. The most recent visit was a little disappointing. My husband had the dusted grouper, and he specifically requested and repeated that it not be over-cooked, but it was: it was dry. I had the squid ink linguine with shrimp and clams. I had 3 complaints: 1, there were just 3 large shrimp in the dish, but the tails had not been removed - a bit of a mess to remove with the sauce on. Since it was just 3 they could have removed the tails in the kitchen. The shrimp were a little overcooked. 2, I had shrimp tails and clam shells, but no plate/bowl to put the shell into. They need to provide a shell dish. 3, I asked if the sauce was a cream sauce and was assured it was not. Perhaps we differed on the meaning of "cream based" but it appeared to me to be cream based. The linguine itself was tasty, but the overall portion was small. My conclusion after looking at my husband's choice and mine is that the chef/cook needs to learn a lighter touch with seafood, and staff need to anticipate that a diner needs to have a place for the shells. read more
