We were in Columbia, SC to take our son back to school. This hotel was honestly the least expensive in the area and for Marriott but it definitely gave "you get what you pay for"! Upon arrival, the front desk was very kind, professional, and friendly, which is why they get 3 stars!! The suites are nice, great appliances and closet organizers. The bathroom shower was updated but the vanity/cabinetry with the sink was worn and very much outdated. There were visible stains on the sofa cushion. The smoke detector had a plastic bag around it! And there weren't enough towels and wash clothes for a reservation for 4 people, 2 sets were in the bathroom. When my husband inquired about getting fresh sets, the person on the night shift said he'd bring them up but he never did. The key cards didn't work on the side door entrance and we had to get them reset because one didn't work on the door. All in all, unless they do some major revamping, I don't see us lodging here in the future. read more

Semi-outdated hotel with incredibly friendly staff, & allows pets. The outdoor pool was open even though it was 50° outside. The gym had three treadmills and one elliptical. It looked like the free weights had been stolen because the smallest pair were 15 pounds. They offer a free pass at Müv fitness, so that could help with the lack of free weights. Plenty of parking. Internet was free and connectivity was good. they offer free, coffee and hot cocoa in the lobby. Cleaning stuff was great, hotel was very clean. read more

First of all, I am in platinum Marriott member and I love the Marriott brand. It is the only place that I stay when I travel. My experience at town suites Marriott Harbison was probably the worst experience that I have ever had in the last 30 years, the room that I was assigned Did not have hot water in the shower. once I notified the front desk, the manager moved me to a different room again this room shower did not have hot water. The rationale that I was given was that everyone was taking showers at the same time thus causing the water to be cold. Never mind that at this time, it was midnight. OK, I let that one slide in the morning. I spoke to the front desk to let them know about not having hot water I was told that the entire fourth floor did not have hot water which conflicted with the first explanation that was given I had to go to an event which was outside all day and upon my return, hot, sweaty and tired I Stop by the front desk before going to my room to ask if the hot water was fixed. The weekend front desk associates were entirely clueless and seemingly parroting information that they did not have firsthand knowledge. I was told that the situation had been corrected. Going up to my room turning on the water again. It was cold now comes the back-and-forth between the front desk and now the 800 number. The facility is sold out and all other Marriott properties are sold out as well. So here I am hot, tired and sweaty and unable to take a shower. I quickly do a field sponge to try to make it through the night. So as I am trying to relax. I started streaming a movie from Netflix and I promise you I'm not making this up. My TV goes out if I can attach the message that was on the screen I can do so right now, but in short, it required the router to be rebooted I go back downstairs to ask the front desk to which the two young unequipped and Flip associates looked at me and asked what's a router? So now I'm in a room hot tired, sweaty with only A fuel sponge trying to make the best of the rest of the evening and there is no room entertainment. Luckily, I was able to use my phone to stream and I've never been more happy to check out of a facility than I was this one again this was the worst experience at a Marriott property that I have ever had. This property did a nice job at doing everything it set out to do, but not trying to be more and instead focus on getting the important stuff right. As a whole, I left very satisfied, and please look below for a more detailed outline. Location: 5 Stars It's super close to a mall, tons of restaurants, a grocery store, gas stations, and is easily accessible from I26. Curb Appeal: 5 Stars The outside is in fantastic shape and looks nice no matter how close or far you are. The landscaping is also well done, and parking is plentiful and well lit. Common Areas: 5 Stars While I didn't make use of the pool, I can vouch for the business and fitness center being perfectly adequate, and all of the sitting areas, hallways, plus elevators were well appointed, and were kept clean throughout my stay. Customer Service: 6 Stars I couldn't help but give a bit of a bonus here, this is seriously one of the best managed hotel, and probably the friendliest people I've encountered in the industry. Jessica specifically was fantastic, she's definitely in the right industry. The Room Itself: 4.5 Stars I had room 407 which was a 1 Queen Studio Suite and was nearly perfect. The entry way was well lit, and had a spacious closet with tons of clever storage solutions (a theme that continues throughout the room) and all the amenities a good hotel would have. There was also a galley kitchen across from it that did everything you'd expect with nice and clean dishware. Past this was a rather nice desk area that was well lit and had plenty of outlets and a ton of built in storage. Beyond this is the sofa which was pretty comfy and featured some tables. The view was nothing special but the drapes where in good shape and the HVAC worked well. The bed was also nice and had plenty of storage and plugs around it. Last but not least is the spacious and spotless restroom with tons of storage and a functional sink and toilet. The only complaint about my stay would be the fact that the shower had a few rough patches in the caulk and the curtain was every so slightly too long and proved a nuisance when trying to shower. Neither of these are big deals though. Value: 5 Stars Considering this was the cheapest mid scale hotel in the neighborhood, and included an above average free breakfast, I consider it an excellent value. This property and the staff were great! I didn't have any issues during my stay. I highly recommend.

I spent one week at the neighboring Fairfield property and the next week at the TownePlace Suites. Much improved and somehow $5 a night cheaper. It's also right next to the Interstate, but for some reason (better insulation? better windows?), you can't hear it at all. There is a bit more hallway noise though. I can't tell if this room is actually bigger than the other, but it certainly seems roomier. Bigger desk area, sofabed and large screen TV with a full sized closet. And with the kitchenette setup (four-ring stovetop with oven, full size fridge, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, mini-sized dishwasher and disposal), TownePlace is less a one night hotel and more like an apartment. I've stayed in one of these before for four months and it's exactly the same now as it was then. The only difference is that short-term guests get a slightly higher frequency of room tidying than the long-term guests. Free wifi worked well, except it got slow between 7 and 10 PM. If I need to be in Columbia again, I'll be back at this property! read more

Great property; convenient to everything I needs and nice newer location! Staff really accommodating; my stay close by with competitor (H17t0n) had a smaller room, no closet and certainly no kitchenette! The people in Columbia have been a real pleasure to be around and this hotel location really brought that home Jessica at the front desk and her support staff(I'll get the ladies name from housekeeping tomorrow and update this review) we're really exceptional! I feel bad rating this place a 2 because it's a pretty decent place with friendly staff, updated, modern rooms and free water (!!!) BUT if it's a hotel and its main purpose is to give me somewhere to sleep and if I don't sleep well....then unfortunately, I can't give them anything more than 2 stars. Like I said the pros are the friendly staff, the free water up at the front desk (I drink 4 liters a day, so this is helpful!). The rooms are also nice and it's so disappointing because when I first sat on the bed, I thought "Wow this is comfortable!" It definitely was one of the more comfortable beds I had slept in while traveling. However, the cons are that sleeping is very difficult when you have the AC making a loud "click, click" noise every time it comes on. And then it gets loud, your hearing gets used to it, so then you wake up when it clicks off too! I felt like this damn AC was waking me up multiple times throughout the night. I do not know if I had a defective one that made those two clicks when it turned on or if they are all like that. At one point, I turned the AC off because I was so over it. But it was South Carolina in August, so you can imagine how long that lasted. Also, this location is near a busy highway so that noise doesn't help at all. I even use a noise machine app on my phone when I travel and it didn't help at all. It couldn't drown out the sound of the cars or the clicking of the AC, etc. Their fitness center consists of just 3 treadmills, 2 elliptical and free weights. It's good to have something and they also allow you to travel to a gym down the street (.5 miles) for free when you show them your hotel key card. I appreciated the offer, but I don't want to have to drive anywhere in the early morning. Also, breakfast was complimentary (a pro), but didn't start until 6:30a (a con). I wake up at 5a to work out, so I had to do my workout without breakfast, which wasn't fun. Lastly, there was no toilet paper in my room. Nothing at all on the actual dispenser handle and then nothing in the bathroom cabinets. I just used the tissues they had because I didn't feel like calling for any (and I wasn't in the hotel room much anyways). Overall, even though this place has great beds, I didn't sleep that well. I would not recommend when staying in the area. read more

What a great place to stay. Picked a hotel that was 80% of our road trip up to NC. Once I picked the location, I hoped on and found reviews for this hotel which were great. And I agree with them. It's very low key, which was more than fine. Small lobby. The room was close to brand new, and fairly large. Loved the wood (laminate) floors when you walked in and in the bathroom. Comfortable beds. Conveniently located near the University of South Carolina, you have a microwave, complete kitchen, and free use of an outside grill that is just amazing. Before you ask for help, the staff focus on you like a laser. Clean rooms, the building is immaculate, safe, workout room, free gym membership down the street at a great gym! Don't plan to use the Wi-Fi, at night it's overwhelmed and you need to shut off your Wi-Fi settings or you cannot use your phone or computer. Plan to bring a hotspot if you really need to work. This is a great place to send your employees, bring your family, stay while you're visiting your student at the University of South Carolina, I could go on. I highly recommend TownPlace Suites by Marriott, they have lots of parking too. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this location. It's a new property, only completed last July, and the rooms are immaculate. The suites and rooms all have kitchenettes in them-- even the single rooms-- and they have all of the basic necessities that one would need. The hotel manager was very accommodating of my very very large bridal party, and gave us EXCELLENT room rates for booking. They ensured that everything ran smoothly during our several day stay, had complimentary FULL breakfast (not just continental) and gave us the home treatment. They directed us, gave us dining suggestions in the neighborhood, and even went out of their way to put our family's name on the chalk board for our special event. They were excellent, and I can't say that enough. I'd definitely stay here at this well appointed property if staying in the Columbia vicinity. There is an outdoor pool and patio, as well as an indoor pool. Additionally, there is a patio with a fire pit outside, that one can relax by. It is just a sweet place, that you can enjoy with lots of amenities without killing your pockets. read more

What is up with the old looking couch and chair? Furniture not that great looking and this property is a part of the Marriott family? And the stove! It was kind of old and raggedy looking and the large burner didn't work on it. Found a hair in my shower, which was there before I used it. And this seems to be all for the bad. Now for the good! Dumpy is the best description I can give it. The price was right for an SC home game weekend...right next to the mall and lots of dining, about 15 minutes of highway driving from campus. Now for the dumpy part - furniture and walls are beat up, kitchen stove was nasty. Found part of a roach, and they didn't clean our toilet the next day. Paper thin walls, floors and ceilings. Extremely slow, though hospitable, staff. The previous guests' beer cans were still in the kitchen trash can when I arrived. Walls and finishes were beat to hell. Breakfast consisted of cereal and microwavable biscuits. Also, and more importantly, is it fair to judge a hotel by its clientele? Aside from the loud partying coming from all sides until well past 3:00 AM, at breakfast I really didn't need to hear obnoxious teenagers yelling (and I do mean yelling) about how fat the hoes were at the clubs the previous night. I was forced to cut short my feast of Jimmy Dean and remove myself to my room... Not that it was much quieter in there with all the clomping about happening above me. read more

I have been trying to book a reservation for my clients and when I tell you it has been a PAIN dealing with this hotel. They have continually lied about their rates. The First Lady that lied was Donna who lied and told my boss the rates were $89 a night and when I called they ended up being $100 more. Then I couldn't get in touch with Donna to book so I called the front office lady and when I advised her of the dates I needed she told me Friday night was one rate (a diff rate than what Donna told me) and she told me Saturday night was a completely different rate than what Donna advised. The Friday rate was way cheaper than what Donna advised so I told her we would take the Friday rate and then bc donna quoted me a cheap rate for Saturday she said she would get in touch with Donna to confirm that rate and then we could have that rate for Saturday. Well she calls me back with completely different rates saying that she misquoted the rates to me because she thought today (a Thursday) was Friday so she was quoting me tonight's rates even though I let her know multiple times that I needed the room for Friday and Saturday night. She forwarded me to the manager to assist and the manager stated she couldn't honor these rates. I am very disappointed in the management at this hotel and I will never refer any one here. You all need to do better. read more

The hotel is built on a tiny sliver of land which makes for a very tight and difficult parking lot. It's also VERY cheaply built which means you hear everything going on around you. Also, doors don't shut right, the walls have cracks, and the cabinets are falling apart. The rooms are reasonably comfortable, however, since I've been here the cable and phone have been out... Not to mention the elevator. The kitchen is nice but the refrigerator is really loud and woke me up several times. The bathroom is TINY. The swimming pool is more of an outdoor bathtub in the parking lot. But nothing makes me quite as sick as the lime green and red motif throughout the building. Not to mention the numerous sprays of fake red flowers all over the place. Really surprised that this is a marriott property. read more

Room and breakfast were nice but we were overcharged for our rooms. We booked the hotel rooms(2 separate rooms) two months ahead of time. When got there, we used two different cards, one to pay for the rooms and one to pay for the incidentals fee. The first card that we used was good for the first room but the front desk worker said it was declined for the second room. We knew this was incorrect because we had more than enough to cover both rooms. After speaking with the bank and looking at the bank account through the phone app, it was confirmed that the hotel charged us twice for the first room, leaving little to no money left in the account! We informed the front desk worker of this error but she insisted that on her end it only charged the card once. We asked to speak to the manager, Mark, but he wasn't there at the time, so we were told to try and catch him the next day. We went the entire weekend without actually speaking to the manager and on one of the days, we got locked out of the room because they said we didn't pay for it! The management at this hotel is terrible and very irresponsible. If a customer has an issue, especially with something like being overcharged, the manager should come down and talk to the customers in person. When we got back home we had to set up a conference call between the hotel manager, and our bank. The bank walked him through the transaction and he finally saw where we were charged twice for the room. The bank also pointed out that he tried to charge the card multiple other times. It should not have taken all of that trouble for him to resolve this issue. On top of that, the incidental fee, which was supposed to be returned after check out has yet to be returned to the other card. Never staying here again! read more
