Her finicky eating habits and eye problems were the result of a terminal diagnosis and there wasn't a lot of time left. Although we were shocked, we were prepared and couldn't have asked for more compassionate staff. They squeezed us in within minutes of my worried phone call and treated us like family from the moment we arrived. Personally, I have never met a more capable and professional vet. In the interest of full transparency, I want to acknowledge that my husband and I recently declined a settlement offer from Parker's Paws so that I would have the freedom to share our experience publicly. My sincere hope is that by telling my sweet Shorty's story, I can spare another family from the heartbreak we have endured since December 2023. On December 20, 2023, we took Shorty to Parker's Paws because she had diarrhea, wasn't eating, and was extremely lethargic. After hours of testing, she was sent home. The next morning, around 7:00 a.m., I received a phone call from Dr. Sarah Spence asking me to bring her back immediately. Her kidney and liver values were dangerously high, and she needed urgent treatment, IV fluids, and additional testing. We rushed her back, where she spent the entire day. When we picked her up that evening, Dr. Spence asked if Shorty had ever received the leptospirosis vaccine. I told her I wasn't sure because Shorty had been under Parker's Paws' care for several years, and I assumed they had administered whatever vaccines she needed. Dr. Spence told me she had spoken with Dr. Erin Manuel, who had previously treated Shorty, and that the vaccine had apparently been "overlooked." I am not a medical professional; I am simply repeating what I was told at the time. At the time, I don't think we fully understood how critically ill she was. Because it was Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we were allowed to take her home and administer IV fluids ourselves. On December 26, my husband took her back for follow-up bloodwork. Her numbers were still dangerously high, and we were immediately referred to BluePearl Animal Hospital to see a specialist. At BluePearl, Shorty came under the care of the incredibly kind and compassionate Dr. Carly Waugh. For the next eight days, between Christmas and New Year's, we visited every single day to bring her food, sit with her, and love on her. Walking away from her every evening was one of the hardest things we have ever experienced. If you aren't familiar with leptospirosis, I encourage you to educate yourself. It is a devastating disease that is highly contagious--not only to other dogs but also to humans. Thank God that Parker's Paws had not overlooked the leptospirosis vaccines for our other two dogs. Had they missed those as well, we would have had three critically ill dogs all at the same time. We first brought Shorty to Parker's Paws on March 3, 2022, to establish her as a new patient. One of our other dogs, Jay Jay, had recently been diagnosed with cancer, so out of an abundance of caution we scheduled comprehensive senior wellness exams for two of our other dogs. During Shorty's senior panel, she was diagnosed with Cushing's disease. While Cushing's is relatively common in dogs, it requires lifelong medication and routine monitoring through ACTH stimulation tests every 30 to 90 days. Those appointments often required Shorty to spend hours at the clinic. Between her first appointment on March 3, 2022, and her final appointment--when Dr. K euthanized her on February 20, 2024--Shorty was seen at Parker's Paws nine separate times. In addition to her regular Cushing's monitoring, she was treated for an eye infection and underwent two surgeries while under their care. Yet during none of those visits--not one--did anyone ever mention that she was missing an important vaccination. Based on the records and recollections, this was never discussed with us. Routine preventive care should never be an afterthought. Looking back, it feels obvious to me that their main focus was on making money- on bloodwork, procedures, and surgeries, while, in my opinion, something as basic and critical as preventive vaccination was overlooked. I understand that people make mistakes. No veterinary practice is perfect. What has been hardest to accept is that, no one took responsibility for what happened. And from the bottom of my heart if we had ever received a sincere apology for their oversight, I probably wouldn't be writing this review today. To make matters even worse, after Shorty was euthanized on her final visit, Dr. K, the owner of Parker's Paws, told us they had "given us a discount." That comment has stayed with me ever since. At the moment we were grieving the loss of our beloved Shorty, being reminded of a discount felt deeply insensitive. I didn't need a discount I needed an apology. If you love your pets even a fraction as much as we love ours, I urge you to really do your research before choosing a veterinarian. Dr Lane did not do a thorough exam of my sweet boy...but he did diagnosis him with severe dehydration, severe blood loss, and parasites. Now my Cat spent the days outside, because it was beautiful and he couldn't control his bowels (yes Jp knew this) and got a few flea bites, was on current flea treatment. Mr Lane thought that was sufficient enough to diagnose my cat with SEVERE BLOOD LOSS DUE TO FLEA BITES. So he shoved a capstan down my LETHARGIC cats move and said, he should be better in 48 hours...WELL MY CAT WAS DEAD 48 HOURS LATER. Have you ever witnessed a cat dying? it was one of the most horrific things that I have ever witnessed. And then when I called to find out what happened... after i had to tell him numerous times MY CAT WAS A BOY NOT A GIRL...lets just say that he was a horribly MEAN MONSTER WHO HUNG UP ON ME! I wouldn't take a broken ant to this place. He saw someone he thought was of "lower class" and treated us as so...but I know how he treats his wealthy clients and they get a red carpet and everything is thorough. DR LANE KILLED MY CAT.

The sitter brought him to this veterinary clinic and they held on to him for over a week till we were able to return. They took great care of him and even made us a paw print mold that we cherish so very much. I'm so extremely grateful to everyone here that helped us through the most awful tragic event that our family endured. I have been and will continue to recommend this place.
