We visit Toy Joy every single time we are in Austin. They have cool vintage toys and miniature versions of toys from our childhood. They sell shirts with their logo and my husband buys the latest shirt every time we are in town. I like that they've rearranged the store and moved the register and aisles. The place is really opened up now and more easily accessible. Yum Joy is worth checking out when you are in the area too. They sell candy and ice cream and vintage sodas. read more

Gosh - it's been a decade plus since I've stepped into the toy joy central location, and the Guadalupe location holds a very special place in my heart from my 20's and being at UT and spending countless amount of hours looking for the funnest trinkets and getting bubble tea at their cafe. Although the 2nd street location is just as fun and friendly with the staff, it makes me reminisce of my nostalgia days. Pusheen, blind boxes and now as a mom these days, actually having a child who I can bring into an actual toy store to spoil, and we all picked out a fun trinket to take home back to the burbs! Prices are reasonable and I always think to shop local so I can see more of these fun spaces stay in my lovely city so I can continue to impart fun and sillinesses to children and those childlike at heart coming here! read more

Toy Joy is a treasure. This store has a feel to it like no other. They sell coffee, and I think they even sell Ice Cream. You can get all sorts of things here from retro toys for adult collectors to quirky little things and actual toys for kids. I'm big fan of Masters of the Universe and they had quite a few cool He-Man toys. The anime statues and kits are cool. I was a bit surprised by how awesome their high end board game section was. If you like toys and anime and board games. This is the store for you. Its downtown so expect to pay a few dollars more than you would on Amazon but hey... its an experience and supporting this amazing local business is well worth it. read more

You know you are going to a fun store when it's called "Toy Joy" and that's exactly what I did a few nights ago when I visited this location. From the moment you walk in and see the giant red bunny rabbit statue outside and the row of funny looking hand chairs, you can pretty much guarantee you are going to enjoy yourself. This store is packed in pretty much every direction and is full of all different kinds of toys, plushies, collectibles, and random knick knacks. What I really liked was this stores selection of anime figures and statutes. I ended up actually coming across some that I have never seen before and that's pretty hard to do. This store is a true Austin gem and I couldn't recommend checking it out enough, plus, if you have a sweet tooth they even have a candy shop connected to it! How can you go wrong? read more

The best toy store in Austin. You walk in and you immediately feel like you have traveled back in time. In here you can find something for everyone, even adults! I always make sure to make several stops at Toy Joy around the holidays because many of their toys make the perfect gifts. So unique and things you wouldn't find elsewhere. The staff of friendly and attentive, always there to steer you in the right direction if your feeling overwhelmed... admittedly I did in the first few trips but that's part of the fun. Lots of stuff but without feeling cramped, cluttered or unable to move about freely. Super comfortable. Everything from Hello Kitty to Batman, Rick&Morty and everything in between. Great staff, lots of items you can't really find in such quantities in other places (especially cute af japanese imports) and just an all around great store for kids or adults. For those complaining about "rude staff" when YOU don't want to wear masks and calling it an ADA issue -- is it an ADA issue when stores don't let you in without pants on? Do you understand the concept of a private business? Do you complain about the ADA when they don't let someone who can't dress themselves without assistance in without clothes on? And your lack of "freedom" when they make you put on a shirt? ITS A DRESS CODE JUST LIKE ALL OTHER BUSINESSES. Toy Joy isn't owned by the government, your civil liberties have nothing to do with it. And leaving a bad review on a business because you don't understand germ theory or the concept of private property is YOUR problem. Not the stores! Thank you Toy Joy for making sure your employees stay safe during this time, and thank you for making sure other customers are safe as well. I came in the other day and I can't tell you how much more comfortable it made me that someone was at the door with sanitizer enforcing COVID-based rules. Amazing place they even have a bathroom here in case you end up spending hours on end checking every single thing out. They have everything, from those plastic rings to chairs shaped as a hand. I'm an adult collector of toys/plush/etc. and I was very excited to learn of this shop and see what was inside. I love the "vibe" their marketing/mascot gives off too. We made a special trip into downtown Austin just to go here, but unfortunately my hype was greater than the store was. Don't get me wrong! Lots of cool stuff inside; my partner and I browsed for around 20 minutes to take it all in, but I didn't actually find anything to buy besides a lanyard. A few things stood out as decent gifts for other people I knew, but it didn't quite hit my particular interests! I'd say it is a better shop for children, because they had a good selection of educational-type toys and many little bins full of the kinds of silly knick-knacks you'd expect from 25¢ dispensers at the grocery store. That and stuff for white elephants at work where you need a silly gift that isn't specific. They had a limited amount of games/roleplay-related stuff, a small Japanese section, some assorted plush animals, and a few collectible figurines. So if you're into that, by all means you should stop by! The store itself is about mid-sized. Not huge, not tiny. The staff are congenial enough. There is a bathroom available for customers. Parking in downtown Austin can be a pain, but Toy Joy will validate your parking ticket with any purchase if you park in the structure across the street that is part of the movie theatre, the Violet Crown. Although they have moved and downsized, I think this is still the coolest toy store in the whole State of Texas. The staff here knows how to have fun. They are always trying out the toys, so that you know how they work. They will not hesitate to throw on a pair of googly-eyed goggles for your giggles. The toys here are ecelectic, weird, and out there. The prices are quite reasonable, and considering the huge selection of weird stuff they have, the place is the best. My favorite stuff is the tall bin of cheapo toys, where you can get rubber ants, plastic mustache combs, plastic aliens, you name it. I really love this store. The story of them moving from Guadalupe St. is a story of perseverance, and how much they want to share their collections of weird toys. Support these guys, they really add to Austin. read more
