For $350/round (Friday resort guest) I expected nicer facilities and treatment by workers from the start of check-in. I wasn't offered to use the locker room and was told to just go outside and find someone. The cart attendants wouldn't give me water and told me I had to get it on the course or snack shack. The starter was the most pleasant out of everyone. Played the Oaks course. Course was in good condition even after a tournament a few days prior. The only downfall was some of the greens are starting to see wear from moving cups around, got bumpy in the old cup spots. Lots of sand and tough slopes made it quite a challenge. Always fun to play where the pros play. Overall fun golf, lack of "special" treatment if your motto is going to be "bringing the magic of the PGA TOUR to life for our guests every day". Overpriced by $100-$150. Should be a $200-$250 round. read more

The walk from the parking lot to the clubhouse is uphill and pretty far. They have an occasional shuttle that runs around but it is hard to catch. The maintenance staff is incredibly uneducated and disrespectful. The cart boys and the course marshalls can be incredibly condescending and there is high turnover. Communication between the golf shop and cart boys needs work. The course is very scenic and the practice facilties are nice but not worth the green fee by any means. read more

This place will rip you off. Very expense golf for a well maintained golf course. Beers are 8 bucks, You will pay $36 for you to park your car in their parking lot. Tips to the different people who "help" you out will be $20 or more. Pro shop prices are silly. Not to mention how inconvenient it is to get into and out of the course. I can't imagine many locals frequent this place. They just gouge the tourists. If you don't mind wasting money then this might be this place for you. They do have nice (expensive) golf carts. Magnificent Golf Course. I had the coldest golf game of my life there. It was a pre-scheduled tournament and the temperature got all the way up to 29 at tee time with a 20+ mph wind. You find out how badly you want to play when conditions are like that. The temperature got up to about 35 by the time we finished but it was worth every minute. Would go back in a heartbeat!! read more

Located at the JW Marriott Resort. I booked a package for two nights stay and four rounds of golf for two days. I arrived before checking into the hotel since my tee time was at 830 am. I find It amazing that this sport GOLF allows a ordinary person like myself to play the same exact courses PGA pro's play. Parking was a breeze and golf bag handlers were on the spot accommodating. Checked into the beautifully stocked golf shop where they had my tee time set and proceeded to warmed up on the large and pristine driving range. The facility actually has members and guest of the hotel are allowed to play the course. It was a Friday and we played the Canyons course which is the course the PGA champions play in October. The course was wide and forgiving but the greens were undulating and challenging. As you might expect the course was in perfect condition but was wide open - we didn't run into a group the entire day! I heart the GPS equipped carts BC on each hole there's a voice that verbally describes and advises you tips of where to hit your tee shot! We finished the round in less than 4 hours. After playing my round the bag handlers stored our golf bags for our rounds on the Oaks course the following morning. This course designed by Greg Norman was even more spectacular and difficult. I would definitely recommend this golf facility for the convenience, beauty and 36 holes of immaculate golf offered here! Prices vary but a package including hotel stay at the JW Marriott and golf is the way to go in my opinion. If you're a Marriott Vacation club owner as myself look into a package where you can trade your VC points - which is what I did. read more

The course was in pretty solid condition but for a TPC course I was not overly impressed. Whoever set out the range balls put it too close to divots leaving minimal room for me to warm up. The pro shop crew wasn't very friendly, however my starter was wonderful. read more

Sweet course and definitely a challenge. I have now played this course about 4 times and every time I enjoy it. I was here for the Valero tournament and sat in the grandstands on the 18th green. All the food and beverages you want. If you ever have a chance to visit do it well worth the trip. As for eye candy in the grandstand hell yes. The unfortunate part was it is like 10 guys to every female and most are with their man. Overall great event and had a great time. read more

First time I had gone to San Antonio and the Valero Texas Open. I travel the country and volunteer for various PGA golf tournaments and out of the ones I have done, this would not be my favorite. The number one word I would say to explain this event, is "inconvenient". The parking alone is horrible. For Volunteers and Spectators. You have to park in lots 20-30 minutes away in order to get to the course. The course is very spread out as well, so it makes for a long day and tiring. This year they had concerts and completely over charged everyone for the tickets. They put price points at real concert prices, which is not accurate for what those shows are. Concerts at events like this I call "power shows". The artist get up on stage and bang out a bunch of hits quickly and leave. Short shows and not much engagement with the crowd. They get paid and get out. No one should be paying too dollar for shows like that. For sure more unorganized then other events and they struggle to get volunteers due to the long hours they make you work it. The biggest plus were the actually the people. So kind and gracious to us. And for that, I may come back again. read more

Course in similar condition to most of the municipal courses. Greens have another species of grass invading them. Driving range did not have much grass. Also resort prices on food and drink so $4 for snickers and $5 for Gatorade. The thought of paying $200+ for this place is hilarious when you could go to Silverhorn, which is in better condition, for $30. Only reason it gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because course layout is above average, but nothing mind-blowing. Only go if you're invited for free. read more

I love to golf and would consider myself to be a descent golfer, but not great. I just don't play enough. The convention I was attending at the JW Marriott San Antonio was having their annual golf outing which was a best ball scramble. The course was in great condition. The golf carts have GPS and communication to ensure you don't leave the allowed area (some parts are "off limits"). There was actually a time the only way to move the golf cart was to go backwards until it allowed us to continue. The greens are moderate and challenging. The fairways are well designed and true. I would say it wasn't ridiculously difficult. This course could be the acid test to anyone who believes they could keep up with the pros. I rented clubs and the rentals weren't too high priced either. They offered several different rental options such as Taylor Made, Nike, Callaway, etc. I took the Callways which included two sleeves of TPC logo balls. The staff are very professional and helpful. What's also nice about it is that it's not far from the hotel meaning you could walk. I'd love to come back and play a standard round. read more

It is a great golf course with Oak and Canyon courses. The Oak course is more challenging and has lengthy yardage. The Canyon course is still fun and well maintained; however, there are so many distractions. The view is scenic but the mosquitoes have great appetite for your blood. The long sleeves or tight do not prevent them from sucking out your blood. Applying the mosquito repellent DEET and sun screen with zinc oxide constantly helps a lot more. I finished the course with 30 bites on my arms which I wore sun sleeves. My legs were fine because I slathered them with zinc oxide sun screen and DEET. The dining room is relaxing and comfortable. Free range ball for short games and driving range. read more

Played the Canyons course 7/17/19. Course is in amazing shape, greens roll pure and requires a good touch. Fairways are in amazing shape, luckily the first cut is not punishing but the second cut is. This course requires both an accurate drive and a good second shot. However, if your short game is excellent, you'll have many chances to save par. I'm a bogey golfer and I shot 88 at this tough course, it's doable! The views are amazing and the staff is friendly. Only complaint is the drinks (gatorades, sodas etc) are overpriced but that's to be expected. read more

2 absolutely awesome golf courses within walking distance from an equally impressive hotel. I live in Buda 50 miles away and it's our family's favorite place to go to for a quick weekend trip. The wife and kids go to the incredible water park and I walk over and play/practice at the TPC. It doesn't get any better than that. Plus Matt and his staff at the TPC is extremely friendly and accommodating. A first class experience from start to finish. read more

A nice course, but not my favorite TPC. Then again I went on a day that no-one should be playing golf... it was well into the 100s and it was so difficult to stay hydrated. The starters were so nice and filled up my cooler with water when I started and when I passed them on the way to the back nine, but even with 8 plus bottles of water between us and additional water we had brought it wasn't enough! I have played in Dallas and even Houston year round, but this was something else. But that was the weather and out of their control. What I didn't like about this course that they could have thought about before was that it is oddly inaccessible. You have to almost climb over rock to get to the green at times, as the carts don't let you past a certain point on the fairway and then it is really difficult to get to the green. So weird. Also, it crisscrosses another course which gets confusing. You have to be a tour player, a member or a member's guest to play this course, so this review may only be useful to a few. It is still a nice course, just not my first choice for TPC courses. read more

Don't bother to play this golf course until after they host the Valero. They don't want to book you on the Oaks and the Canyon course is at best a shabby municipal course but they want to charge you resort golf rates. One green (7) is more weed than grass and their excuse is weather but the Oaks is in perfect shape. Go ahead and play if you can get a $45 rate but past that you are being played. 300 yards away the other course is in great shape but Canyon isn't worth playing as it is getting all the play to save to other course. read more

The course was in good shape and a good challenge but very overpriced. For $237 I would have expected lunch included or at least good customer service. There was no starter on 1, and the tee times were 3 minutes apart. We were left to carry our own golf bags and load them in the cars while the service attendant watched on. The workers on the course were spraying the tee box as we tried to play our shots, then asked us to make sure that the tee box was dry so we wouldn't get the spray on the green! All in all this would have been a really disappointing experience on a municipal course. To have been charged $200+ for the privilege is completely unrealistic. If you are staying at the Marriott, I would recommend getting in your car and driving to La Cantera to play the courses there. read more

The TPC San Antonio course might be great for professionals and some men but for the women golfers it's mediocre at best. Tee boxes were missing tee markers on a lot of holes. The power carts were set so you won't get too near the greens (that's fine) but over 90 yards!!!!! You hit a great drive and have to walk back to your ball carrying a armload of clubs! How about setting them 50 yards away from greens??? Much more user friendly. My cart would stop and not go anywheres couple of times with little warning... It had to be pushed with another cart to get it going again... I was over 90 yards to green. Crazy! read more

Bring a lot of water!!!! They gave us 4 bottles for 2 people, and in between 9 and 10 there were no water, lady said they ran out, it was 105 today and there isn't a water jug on the course. Was struggling at the end of the round. Also, I had to park far away. you think for 300 bucks they could give you a ride to your car with your clubs. Also, no course marshall, had a 4 some in front of me, with 2 small kids. Waited on every hole and took almost 5 hours to complete the round. If your going to spend the money-La Cantera is the place to go. read more

I went to this resort earlier this year with another golfer to celebrate our 70th birthday. On the 8th hole of the Canyons course, I HAD A HOLE IN ONE. I reported the score to the pro shop and also call the PGA PROFESSIONAL (Wes), who told me they would put a plaque in the pro shop and also send me photos etc. As of today I have heard absolutely nothing from them. Canyons course was a bit of a disappointment. It's fine but not particularly memorable, especially for $189. Seems more like a $75 course. The Oaks course, by contrast, is spectacular. Absolutely worth the $289 or whatever they charged. Can't wait to play it again. My only other gripe is that is wasn't particularly family friendly. I played each course with one of my two boys (both solid golfers). Charging close to full fare for kids seems a bit much for a course attached to a hotel. Especially when they are undergoing major renovation and lots of areas are torn up around the course. read more

Played the TPC San Antonio Oaks course the weekend after memorial weekend, and the overall experience did not live up to a PGA stop course. Began with driving range having no flag distance markers, and when I asked the starter his comment was "there use to be a board with the distances but it hasn't been around for a while". Then we found most of the fareway and green side traps were not raked from the day prior. Beer carts were few and far between holes. When rounds of golf cost $279, you expect a well manicured course and it was anything but. The course layout was great offering everything you want from a TPC - Greg Norman design. Played the Oaks course. Home of the PGA tour stop. This is a Greg Norman course so it was VERY challenging. When you did hit a fairway, the approaches were very dicey to sloping greens, false fronts and tough pins. If you want to enjoy your golf, move up one tee marker. Hit wedges to these greens vs 5 irons. Staff and starters were nice as with most TPC facilities. However, we played Labor Day Sunday, and saw beverage cart only once and that was on the second hole. We picked up drinks at the turn, but still did not see cart after we finished 18. We wanted to drink some beers and have a good time, but it didn't happen. Moreover, we couldn't even get ice for water. After the round, asked one of the attendants where and if a cart could take us to the Parking lot of the hotel to put my clubs back and his answer was "if you can find one..." Not to helpful. Great course, cool layout, but need more attention to details for $139 a round. read more
