One of the best tracks in the south east. There aren't many true outdoor karting tracks but this one is great. Very much worth the higher cost of rentals here. They're ungoverned and you can go pretty quick. There's a shop to support owner karts as well. People are super friendly and I could recommend this track enough! read more

We had a great time today at Go Pro's Go Kart racetrack! The facility is large enough for groups and small enough for individuals. They make meals onsite (pizza and wings) and offer a variety of beverages (Coke products). There is also ping pong and corn hole in the meeting room. They thoroughly review safety and the rules of riding. It's a great place for children and adults. The go karts go up to 50 mph and can really handle the curves. Go Kart racing on race weekend here in NC - summer fun at its best. The GoPro Motorplex has organized and timed races great for big groups (we're here today with 15 of us) and great for couples on day dates too! GoPro Motorplex provides the safety gear and the karts + a track with lots of hair pin turns. We recommend doing the 3 race pkg for about $70. You get to race for 10 minutes... get a 10 min break and repeat x 3. There's a small snack bar inside with pizza and drinks but I wouldn't recommend eating here. A few shady tables to spectate if you're not racing and some decent restrooms too. Good fun and highly recommend! read more

This track definitely lives up to the hype. Reviewing from the perspective of a newbie to outdoor karting. I've been racing indoors for a year or two and wanted to try outdoor so I made the 2.5 hr trip here and it was definitely worth it. This was by far the best karting experience I've ever had. The track employees are very good at their job and very patient. If you've raced indoors before and are considering trying this out, go for it. Even with no racing experience I would still recommend it, this is a great intro to the sport. I've also heard it's one of the top locations to practice if you own your own kart but the rental karts are great for someone just getting into serious karting like me. Really fun, karts go fast. The track is fun and technical, can easily spin out. The rumble strips sound like they are breaking the kart but it looks like everyone runs wide on the final turn and goes over them. read more

When it comes to driving the carts, and the quality of the track, it was a fun experience. Other than that, customer service was my biggest issue. They were rude and there was a major lack of communication. This was my first time going to a go karting track so I really had no idea what to expect. There were no instructions before I arrived to know what to do once I got there. So when I arrived, I signed my waiver, they gave me my wristband and basically just told me to go outside and wait. (Never told me about where to get helmets, neck braces, lockers or even which kart to use). There were no safety instructions or any instructions at all. I had to figure everything out just by observing other people who seemed like they have been there before. It seemed like the employees only really cared about people who were more experienced, and gave no attention to first timers. read more

This place is a joke of what it was. I've been coming here for years and it's just gone too far. They treat customers like absolute garbage. There's no accountability, and they more than happy to just tell you to move on if you have any problems with how things are ran. It's a shame since the next best track is 8 hours away. Unfortunately management is trying its best to turn people away. Combined with the absentee owners it's not going to get better anytime soon. Hopefully a recession comes and their business model of running a glorified amusement park will fail and they'll finally treat paying customers with a modicum of respect. STAY AWAY! We purchased our tickets online without ever going to this place before. As we are pulling in; there's a sign that says "back the blue". First red flag because I thought we were here to drive go carts; not a political rally. The lobby was clean but the staff were not friendly. We checked in and were told to go wait under a covered area. From there, we went into a "training room". A young girl told us to put the neck brace on, helmet, signals, and cart determination. Other racers started piling outside but the girl told us we would be notified when it was time. We got into the carts and the staff came around to ensure we were buckled up. Off we went! I was last to leave the lineup. As I was driving around the track, the cart was shaking violently so I decided to pull back in. I pulled back in to find my partner. She was involved in a wreck and the driver who hit her was still racing. She had multiple bruises and scabs from the impact. I did not see the wreck but she said someone hit her from behind and kept going. The staff attempted to give me another car but being that my partner was too scared to finish the race, I declined. We left the facility. As we were leaving we seen staff looking our way, talking, and laughing. My partner's knee is really messed up, extremely swollen, scraped up, and it's black and blue. Her side hurts and her elbow is scraped up and black/blue. She has a hard time sleeping on her sides right now. We paid for 2 races and didn't finish either, then to have staff laughing really put the icing on the cake. read more

Omg. My girl friend and I who are 50 plus had a great time. Staff was great and the track was clean and in great shape. I only wish they could figure out a curve on lap times as I way 265lbs. With only 13 horse power in the carts I would had dieted for a few years before going. We will be back next month. read more

Absolutely loved it! We drove here for the Auto Cruise In Show and had a great time! I even participated in the car show which grants you access to the show parking lot. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. They are thorough and very informative. The location is nice and clean with two food trucks on the premise and soft drinks available in the cashiers office. They do offer Veteran discounts and offer a safety course prior to every race. The Go Carts are fast! The course is big and very fun!! They're very organized and make sure everyone from the beginner to the pro get the attention they require. I will definitely return! read more

Big outdoor track with curbs, not walls. The track is awesome allowing you to rip into the corners at high speed. There are no walls on the edges of the track, so you can spin out in the grass (read: fun). Careful with braking into the turns, as the karts only have rear brakes(non-abs), so you can lock them up and spin out. FYI: you start to get tired after 2 races. This is not the kiddie go-kart track at the local arcade, this is racing! What a great time, but not for the weary. Fast karts where you actually have to know how to race to get around the track. You have to brake to make it through certain corners and understand late apexes to have a chance at a fast time. The track is based on the Kartdromo Parma in Italy, where many famous Formula-1 drivers got their start. It is an honor to be able to experience something like this so close to Charlotte. All of the karts are sturdy, powerful, and relatively safe. Safety however may depend on who else in on the track. When I was there a few kids with Nascar last names beat the hell out of me, but I dominated the rest of the crowd. There were a few people that I wish had asked to start at the rear of the field, if you don't have the balls to go fast, please get out of the way. As per the facilities, they are relatively bare bones. That isn't a complaint. I'm sure that track wasn't cheap to build and everything is fine for the time being. It looks like other construction is happening and with the GoPro sponsorship, I'm sure the funds are there to make it happen. I highly recommend this place. Expect to pay $25 a ride, but well worth it. I'd even say this is up there with the White Water Center as places I would send tourists when in town. read more

I'm not sure what the average experience is like, but experiencing the GoPro Motorplex as a team building event? Can't be beaten. Bar none. After a short safety video (that was actually produced well!!) we got our safety gear and went out to race our practice round. Pro tip: Do the practice round. You get the feel of the track, you have the ability to spin out without anybody laughing at you or feeling awful that you've just lost two positions, and it's more time having fun. Being on the track is an adrenaline rush, there's no better way to explain it. As Jeannine said, it makes you competitive in the best way, and you start to think to yourself, "yea, I could totally be a racecar driver!". Until you see everybody that lapped you. The facility is clean, the instructors are clear, and the track is just so much fun. I would highly suggest this to anybody looking for a fun activity to do with a group - I'm ready to come back and kick ass. read more

The actual racing and motorway was fun. The website states that if you have a GoPro all you need to bring is the camera and they have mounts on the helmets. Not all the helmets have mounts and it's only part of the mount you need to get the camera on the helmet. I asked about this and was given no solution other than sorry you can't use your GoPro then... They do not keep groups together if you come in and want to race against your friends/ family. They do not refund unused races, they will only give you a credit to your account. read more

Incredible experience! This was actually my second time here but my first time was prior to joining Yelp. The GoPro Motorplex has a great go-kart track that is perhaps best described as a challenging adrenaline rush. These go-karts are super fast, topping out at approximately 55 mph, or so I have been told. The track is fast and has some pretty tricky turns that are quite difficult to master. This track will test your driving skills no doubt. I came here for a charity event and ended up spending the entire day racing. A 45-minute qualifying heat, followed by the race heat, and then the actual race. Although my team did not win, or come close for that matter, we had a lot of fun. The GoPro staff were professional and very helpful. They did an excellent job explaining how the different qualifications and heats worked, as well as how race would go. They clearly communicated cautions and warning flags and were not at all afraid to utilize them. The carts are monitored via cameras and tracked via sensors to accurately compute lap times. The helmets are of course equipped with GoPro mounts. I brought one to capture the memories of spinning out on more than one occasion. Check this place out! read more

As soon as I pulled into this off-the-beaten-path Go-Kart track and saw what lay before me I was ecstatic. Greeted by a rather uninspired young lady who had me register and hand over my license to make a copy, I was ready for my quick training video and helmet fitting. If you are a motorsport enthusiast of any capacity, get as many races as you can afford. This was an absolute blast, and I didn't really start grasping the karts potential and course until about 2 races in. I opted for the 5 race package, and I couldn't have been more satisfied. The speed on straight aways and G's you experience in the turns are really addicting, and made for a thrilling experience. The races are 10 minutes each, and alternate between rental karts and personal karts that were brought in by other karting enthusiasts (which were all adults by the way). This was an excellent way to take a breather and study the course either outside, or in the training part of the building where they have the course mapped out on a large poster. Also, if you didn't want to use all of your races that day, you can save them for another time. After each race they display your fastest lap time next to whatever creative alias you made during registration. The following day you get an email with the results of all your races. It was awesome having everything documented to see improvements in your racing habits. I wish they had this up in Michigan, this was one of the most fun experiences I've had down south. For all the amateur drivers out there who have always wanted to ride on a real go-cart track, this is the place to be! I went to the GoPro Motorplex recently for a friend's birthday. We are all in our 30s-40s, so this wasn't like a Chuck-e-Cheese sort of bday. We are older and like to step it up. After signing in and watching a short video, we got our gear and were ready to go. They assign you a car and everyone is staggered, so it's not like everyone is all in one bunch like you see on a NASCAR race. You're spread out, making it easier for those of us who are not go kart pros. Hitting the track was a serious thrill, and makes you pretty competitive! I recommend you do at least two rounds. The first round, you just get used to the track and the car. Then when you come back in, the instructor pointed out a few areas where we could each improve our speed/control on the track. It was worth it when we got out there the second time and felt like pros! Even though we weren't. Great way to spend an afternoon or evening. Tons of fun and not just for teenagers! read more

Terrible customer service. We showed up for our reservation and was unable to race because we missed a mandatory safety training that we never were told about when we booked on the phone. Employee at the desk was very rude, cutting me off, and extremely unhelpful. I received the same type of bad customer service when I initially booked on the phone. Employee seemed unaware of their own policies and ultimately wasted our time as we still never were able to race. Would not recommend at all. Waste of gas and time. read more

The actual art of racing was great. I wasn't super fast but had a blast. The customer service at sign in left much to be desired. We were regrouping after our race and after buying drinks from their "restaurant" and was told we had to leave because they couldn't hear to take phone calls. We watched from outside for a few and in 10 minutes they took no phone calls and had no patrons inside. It could have been handled better. read more

First time but not the last time I'll visit!!! This place is amazing! The track is great! A couple hard turns, especially when it's slick from rain. Loved how clean and well painted the track was. Made me feel like I was really racing. The track is a good length and you get enough time to really get comfortable with the track so you can have some good laps. The building and waiting area is really nice (it is outdoor so if it's hot beware, you can sit under a tent but no where to sit inside) loved how they had garages where kids kept their personal gear, it made it feel like a real racetrack! They offer full rentals so you don't have to bring anything which is nice too. The staff: amazing! So engaging and fun! We came on a slow rainy afternoon so it was just us for the most part. The staff was awesome and had great customer service, due to weather we had a few slow races but we were all able to have fun and laugh. I will have to come back next time I'm in town! read more

I was invited to go go-kart racing at the GoPro Motorplex, and I'm not a huge race fan, I drive a Honda Civic, but I'm up for fun adventures so I went on Saturday afternoon. After driving to what felt like the middle of no-where (Lake Norman is out of my bubble), we arrived at this awesome go-kart track. We set up our racer profiles (tip: make your racer name actually something fun and not just your name) and headed over to watch some of the races. The helmets & safety talk is in a seperate building from registration and will show you what car number & race results in there as well. They gave us a quick safety talk when it was our turn to race - which left me scared. Like I said, I'm not a huge racer, but all this talk about "take this line when going into curve 3" totally freaked me out. They called our race number and I went to sit in my car. Uncomfortably. I barely reached the pedals. And that was it. Go time. We had a full race - all cars were filled so I scooted around the track, got passed a bunch, but made it through without spinning out or going off track. After 10 minutes of racing, we got the checkered flag, did our cool-down lap and headed in. Pretty intense for go-kart racing. I was done after just one race. They count your best lap time, and send you fun charts afterwards with how you did. Really neat thing for out of town guests, or for a Charlotte staycation. read more

Showed up at about 4:00 and was on track with 3 other guys at around 4:20. This place does run 10 minute session that switch between kart owners and rentals. If you plan to do 3 races that means you'll be there an hour if there are kart owners trying to use the track. The speeds are fast and the track has a good flow of corners that won't work you to death like some of the indoor tracks will over multiple races. Not all of us are in shape 20 year olds anymore. ‍ I didn't bring my GoPro, but if I had to guess the karts do get up to 55ish, and I would say the slowest corner is around 30-35mph for experienced drivers. I did find the brakes to be on the weak side but they are easy to handle. I didn't really feel like I had to worry about lock up at any point but I am also accustomed to indoor track surfaces so maybe that's the difference. A little feature, but nice in my opinion, is the clock over the finish line. Makes rough guessing your lap times on track way easier than trying to look at a TV on a wall. They do have lap time printouts as expected. I will definitely come back next time I'm driving through. read more

I recently went with a group of friends from the NASACAR school down the road from here. We're all adrenaline junkies and once we walked through the parking lot and saw the track we knew we had found the right place! The speed of the karts is crazy fast! The rush of racing your opponent to see who can put down the fastest lap time and the crazy curves within the track truly make this place a go to when you're looking for something fun to do! I would recommend this place if you and some friends are looking for something to do on the weekends or even through the week! read more

Ok, I've been to this place multiple times over the last 4 years and things have been great. 5 Star in the past. I was there last night and let me say, the rental carts have taken a big hit. Both carts I was in had cords showing in the front tires and felt like a 6hp Honda instead of a 13. My friend that has about 80lbs on me was pushing me all the way out of pit road. I am not a professional driver but I do have lap times in the 64.074 sec range. Both carts I had this last time 68-69 sec range. Some racers where given the same carts 3 races in a row and it seemed they new the guys running things. Hey thats great no problem, but all the rest of us pay a good amount to race and have a good time but when you're competitive and can only afford to go every once in a while, well, it's dissapointing. Wonder if Mr. Marks is putting his money in the cup team instead of maintaining his rental fleet? read more

The karts are fast, the track is large, and the competition is ruthless. I wouldn't recommend this for children as the several times I have raced here there tends to be adults that race rough. My favorite place to go in the greater Charlotte area. If you have an interest in karts or what it feels like to be on a fun, challenging track I suggest you try it out. I went from a regular at Victory Lane, to a regular at GoPro. I've run so many rental sessions, and ran one full rental league. It's not unusual to see drivers of all types out there from first timers to top tier professional drivers. To be clear, I don't claim to be any good, I do it because I enjoy it and you can't help but enjoy it. Still in two of the league races I finished 5th which was a high point an better than I had set as a personal goal in league. One of those was starting from 15th and fighting my way up. I'm a frequent race car driver who just started attending the motorplex. I have had family in town for the past three days. The motorplex closed at 8:30 PM two of the nights, and 9:00 PM the third night. I was there at 7:50 PM the first night and they told me I couldn't race. The second night I showed at 7:45 PM and again, the doors were already locked. Finally the third night, I bring my group of friends at 8:15 PM and the girl behind the counter greeted me with "Actually, we are running our last race right now". Mind you, it was 8:15 PM and they close at 9:00 PM. I pointed out to her that there was still 30 minutes left to race before closing hours. All she had to say was "yeah, I'm sorry." I guess I'll be attending Victory Lane Karting again, they've never turned me down for my business! Ever! read more

We love taking our boys to this track! We are not rental clients as our boys have their own karts, but we have rented just for the fun of it when we have friends or family in town.
