I was unhappy with the veterinary clinic I had been going to in New Bern as there were just too many doctors and it seemed like we were just shuffled in and out paying way too much and then I felt like I couldn't get a straight answer. Once I switched over to 70 West I no longer felt like just a number, the staff were so loving and caring. Never trying to upsell me and you could tell they truly cared. There's only one vet, which I prefer,but his vet techs and other staff are amazing people that you can just tell they love the animals they care for and that they're not just in it for the money. They showed us so much empathy when we had to put our sweet Oliver to rest. I know they put our pup at ease and that he felt loved all the way up to the very end. I will forever be grateful to them for showing such love and empathy. I didn't have that experience at the other place when we had to put our other baby girl down. They just kept blabbing on and on and wouldn't give us the privacy to grieve afterwards. Plus when the vet gave her the shot she yelped in pain! I will never forget that either. The owners have a dog with pancreatitis too, so they truly understood my concerns--and they went above and beyond to make sure Koda was well cared for. I'm incredibly grateful to them and the entire team for their compassion, attention to detail, and the peace of mind they gave me. I also appreciated how well kept and clean the facility was. We checked in on Koda daily and there was always someone there washing dog dishes, blankets and floors. They also make sure pets there are vaccinated so everyone stays healthy during their stay. The grooming room is super cute and I love that they offer it as an option. Thank you for treating Koda like one of your own! This facility is very well run. The grounds are clean and orderly. There is a lovely duck pond at…read morethe entrance to the property with a graceful bridge spanning it. Ducks stay here all the year round. There are mallards, some farm ducks and other waterfowl that pass through the area to wintering or summering grounds. The enclosures for the creatures are spacious and well kept. The care for the animals and birds is exemplary. The staff and management take personal care and provide attention to the creatures. They work hard to rehabilitate the creatures and release those back into the wild that can do so. For others the animals or birds might take up extended or personal residence or until such time as they can be transferred to some other long term care facility. Entering the facility is rather difficult as the main road in is a dirt track with a quick descend into the grounds below. Use caution when exiting as well as the roadway is busy during most of the year and extremely busy during the summer months. There are three short but primitive trails running through the rear of the property. The trails traverse a pine stand sprinkled with white and red pine and beginning to take on the aspect of the historic look of the area prior to the 1800's. The trails also move through a stand of holly, yaupon and some oaks. The trails are interesting. They need some maintenance. Not suitable for wheelchairs but would probably make a nice short cross-country bike ride.
