If they had, they'd have seen the shelter's hours. No, a shelter cannot stay open an extra five minutes for you or me. If they did, someone else would expect them to stay five minutes after that and so on. I'm not sure why we expect people to respect our boundaries and need for work/life balance but don't respect this need for others. Moving on. I've engage in dog rescue for 30 years. I've transported, fostered, foster failed, adopted, trained, etc. You name it and I've done it - all over the country as I've moved for jobs. And I can tell you this shelter is deserving of not one less star than 5. Saw a beautiful furbaby that pulled my heart on, I believe, Petfinder. That was Saturday evening. Sunday morning, I left a message for the shelter to call me to speak about the baby. Now, newsflash? Most shelters today aren't open AT ALL on Sunday. Many don't even have a voice mail for you to leave a message. No one is returning your calls for days or weeks after your message is left - if a message is returned at all. So it made me very happy to hear from Connie before the shelter closed at 11 AM. She was kind and helpful. Told me everything she knew about the baby and the process of adoption. I contacted her back during the break - they close from 11 AM to 4 PM on Sundays, and asked if I could run up to the shelter in the afternoon to see the dog. Connie returned that message despite it being during the break. She arranged for a volunteer to stay until I got there to see the dog. When we were running late due to traffic, she made sure the volunteer was kept informed. You think that's worth anything less than 5 stars? Yeah, see, neither do I. We got to the shelter and Georgeanna Burns was there to greet us. Ms. Burns has volunteered at the shelter for YEARS. She's a warm, genuine, beautiful soul and we felt instantly comfortable with her. Please note that the lady stayed until 5:30 PM - on a Sunday - 2+ HOURS after she was to go home - so that we could see this dog. You think that's worth less than 5 stars? Yeah, see, neither do I. Nice setup. Lots of room for the dogs to play outside. Separate ends of the building for dogs and cats. There's a room for one to get to know their potential new family member. No one is rushing you. No one is telling you that you can only see two dogs. Nothing but love for these animals and the process. I didn't see the kennels as the dog was brought to us. But I have no doubt that everything is fine. We ceretainly didn't see anything amiss. Will you have to make an appointment, Yes, you will. Unlike other shelters, you'll be able to do so. We ended up adopting through another rescue because another dog suited our needs better. BUT . . . and it's a HUGE BUT . . .I was so impressed with how things were handled that I had to write to let you know. Looking for a furbaby? Look no further and make that appointment.
