5/10/2025: The Cafe...What a wonderful experience! My best friend and I both lost our mothers years ago and decided to start a new tradition of honoring our moms on Mother's Day Weekend. For our first annual Mother's Day Honor Lunch, we decided to go to Brookwood. I am thrilled with our experience! They had an abbreviated menu that weekend. We both had the Mesibov salad to start. I was wonderful and from what i understand, Brookwood is known for this salad. For our meal, I had the eggplant, and my friend had the pork chop. We also had a choice of delicious desserts. I chose the cheesecake. The serve was wonderful, the food was tasty, the atmosphere was perfect with a piano player, and the dining area was clean. I noticed a faint smell of cafeteria type scent, but it dissipated in a few minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The "Community" is such a wonderful space for people in need. I recommend reservations. Make sure you plan for extra time to visit the store and the garden. Beautiful finds! 5/10/2025: The Gift & Garden Center... What a place! Brookwood was a wonderful experience with the lunch and then we got to shop in the store and the garden. I went back to the register 4 times, and mind you, I am not a shopper by nature. They have so many great items and I was surprised the prices were pretty decent. Clothing, shoes, bags, home decor, candles, gourmet snacks, Brookwood Community handmade items, a whole western hat and boot section, and so much more! They even have a local artist gallery with high end artwork and sculptures. One of a king beautiful piece! I like that the items were rare-ish finds. These are not items you will find at regular stores. They are more boutique type items. We also shopped in the beautiful garden. I purchased a lovely Bougainvillea for only $25.00. A regular store near me would have sold the same plant for at least $35.00. The ladies in the store are super helpful. I am glad they aren't close to my home because living nearby could be dangerous on my wallet. Even though prices are good, I wanted to buy everything in the store! read more

We absolutely love supporting the Brookwood community. We came for their seasonal breakfast buffet which had a lot of classic breakfast foods like bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, fruit, etc. Usually we come for lunch though and order the classic burger with sweet potato fries. Also be sure to try their daily soup, those are always so awesome. It is a pretty far drive for us to come to Brookwood, but the food is great and the community is so lovely. Also be sure to take a nice stroll in their greenhouse garden area after your meal! Overall great quality food, amazing service and lovely environment to walk around after eating. read more

I would say that this place is definitely worth a visit when driving through Brookshire. It's a very quaint community center that has a pretty awesome little store. I think that this store buys from other small businesses which makes me like this place even more! They definitely carry different types of goodies that you couldn't find just anywhere. I wish I new more about Brookwood to tell you the story about this place. My wife rattled on for a few minutes but unfortunately I wasn't paying attention (do t tell her!). Anyway as a craft and garden store this place is awesome and I know fro the brief attention I gave her that there is something to do with special people who live here. The garden is beautiful. I was in charge of securing this luncheon for a group of 17 ladies. From the moment we entered the doors our experience was delightful. Such a pretty setting. Excellent service and every bite that came from the kitchen was over the top delicious. I kept looking at everyone's faces and they were all smiling from ear to ear. From a group who rarely orders dessert, when the cart came around, we couldn't resist. They were very efficient at handling such a large group and allowing each to pay separately. It's rare now a days to dine with linen tablecloths and cloth napkins! They also have a beautiful gift shop, gardens and greenhouse. Wonderful knowing your money is going to support such a worthy cause!!! read more

Imagine a place where you can dine at a 5-star restaurant, buy gorgeous, healthy (and some very unusual) plants for very little $$, visit an great art gallery featuring local artists, and pickup fabulous gifts for everyone, including yourself. That's Brookwood Community. When you dine there, I recommend the Mesibov salad with mixed greens, apples, sugar roasted pecans, blue cheese, and Brookwood's famous Mesibov dressing. I loved the lemon chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. And the shrimp with jalapeño cheddar grits is delicious. But make reservations - this place is popular! The food is yummy and the service spectacular. And after you eat: Stroll away the calories in the gardens, greenhouse, and gift shop. The gift shop is like a Hallmark store on steroids: Art, clothing, seasonal gifts/decorations, gourmet foods, toys, spa soaps & candles, jewelry. Brookwood is a beautiful experience and all the profits support the community that provides housing and work for adults with disabilities. First time me and my daughter come here today but my mother in-law and a friend been here many times and always told us the best place to eat. It was my birthday so we have to reserve a table. No regrets love the place. The food is so tasty , the food presentation is amazing. The Apple mint water is so tasty , the Asian noodles salad is tasty, but you have to try Lemon Chicken dinner the BEST. Coconut cream pie so tasty....you got to try it. No regrets read more

I make a trip up here every year to pick up poinsettias. I haven't tried the cafe, but it's on my list to do every year. They also have a really nice Christmas shop and again I have only made it up here during the month of December. I will update the review when I have more information. read more

This place is hands down incredible. The citizens who live and work there do an amazing job at keeping the Community running smoothly and the guests feeling welcomed and accepted. The food in the cafe is fantastic - Chef Michael & the members of his team are very skilled. The Grilled Mesibov salad is by far my favorite item on the menu, with the Salmon filet as a close second. I have always enjoyed going to the Brookwood Spring extravaganza. I went today with some friends and was quite disappointed in a few things. We started with lunch in the café. Today it was a Buffet and the cost was over $26. There were a lot of issues with the food. Most of it was quite dry. The salad was good except for the fact it was served in a highball glass. I didn't understand that at all. The drink cups were only 6 ounces so you had to return often if you needed more water or tea. They were very few choices of anything so to me it wasn't Buffet style. Definitely not worth the $26. However the rest of the extravaganza was very nice. There were a lot of beautiful plants and the vendors had a lot of great things. I have eaten at the café before and never has it been a Buffet style. I missed having good service and a variety of choices like their regular menu has always had. read more

If only I could give more than 5 stars on Yelp. From a strictly foodie perspective, the experience at the Cafe at Brookwood was excellent. (Having a chef from the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park New York probably helps.) Some highlights: - The whipped orange butter served with the dinner rolls--Refreshing but not overpowering. - The Mesibov Salad--Because I'm such a sucker for candied pecans and blue cheese. (And you can buy the "Brookwood Dressing" at HEB!) - The Baja Panini with Grilled Tilapia--The flavorful jalapeno cilantro slaw and jack cheese added a touch of spiciness (but not too much) that went well with the grilled, flaky fish. My only suggestion would be to grill the panini a little longer to give it a crispier outside. - ANY of the desserts. I had a sampling of the Lemon Cheesecake, Chocolate Explosion, and Carrot Cake. Really, you can't go wrong with any of them. The ambiance is also very nicely done with large bay windows opening up to the nursery and white linen tablecloths. Now maybe I shouldn't mention this, but I thought the menu was a little UNDER-priced. An excellent value! The portions are huge and all of the main dishes are under $16--even the seafood and meats. While that's all well and good, the aforementioned comments could be made about any good restaurant. But what really separates Brookwood is the broader social mission of the community. Brookwood gives adults with special needs an environment where they can feel empowered and contribute to society--just check out the plants in the nursery, crafts in the store, and your server at your meal--all the products of Brookwood citizens' work. Visiting Brookwood is a truly humbling and inspiring experience. Spend some time here, and I think you'll learn a thing or two from the citizens. read more

Beautiful place. You can choose from really nice art to kids gifts to buying plants and then dining in the cafe. It's a cute place to visit.

Wonderful meal in a pleasant atmosphere. It is quiet enough for conversation at the table, with only slight background noise and pleasant classic Sinatra-type music. Very good entree options, running the gamut from seafood to burgers. We enjoyed full meals, served with veggies or other sides, for $20 per head, including dessert. From Sugar Land, the drive takes about 35 minutes. We took the scenic route home through Simonton. The landscape of slightly rolling hills and pastures were refreshing, as was the dining experience. read more

We enjoyed a very good lunch (unbelievable eggplant ) with service by great people followed by some shopping and a stroll through their well stocked and tended on-site nursery. The Cafe at Brookwood is worth the drive out to Brookshire! Ridiculously good gourmet food at a reasonable price. I went here with some colleagues with no expectations whatsoever and left incredibly impressed. We had two servers, one which was the one of the community residents (super sweet girl) and another non-res who made sure things went smoothly. I ordered the romano crusted chicken which came with creamy mushroom risotto. The chicken was tender and perfectly breaded and the risotto pretty much dazzled my tastebuds. The entree also came with a salad which I upgraded to their signature mesibov salad. It was extremely fresh and very tasty. When they came around with the dessert tray there was no way we could say no after such an amazing meal. I shared this dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse... heavenly. The community itself is amazing. We did a quick tour and the grounds are landscaped beautifully and there is a garden and greenhouse. The store is adorable and had a range of things from holiday ornaments, custom hats, gardening supplies, plants, etc... everything Martha Stewart could ever want. As the previous reviewer said, they do not receive any government funding and you can tell that the people of the community really enjoy the work that they do. Eat here and know your money is going to a worthy cause with the added bonus of getting delicious food in your belly :) Tips: Reservations are a must. This place is only open during lunch from 11am-2pm everyday and it is always busy. It is located off of I-10 at the Brookshire exit with the La Quinta inn. read more

My name is Diane Phillips I've been a Brookwood citizen for 28 years and I absolutely love living , working , playing the handbells , doing different fun activities with my friends , and learning how to be there for someone who might need a friend to talk to. When I first came to Brookwood I worked in every shop. From greenhouse to the craft shops, to cafe, and cement. I never worked in cement. I do work in stone casting as a detail painter who paints the comfort bowls 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday) and on Friday's I work at the Brookwood cafe as a server to all of the wonderful people who come from near and far to eat lunch.
