Tracy PD is a sorry excuse for what the city provides as law enforcement. IMHO, Tracy cops only excel at one thing--giving out traffic tickets. PERIOD. I'm pretty much a law-abiding citizen and avoid the law at all cost. I'm not sure if it was the way that I was wearing my baseball cap or what but for some reason there must have been a target on me this morning. Just finished doing my grocery shopping at the Safeway (corner of 11th & Corral Hollow) and was pulling out and making a left on 11th St (right be McDonalds). Because was caught up with loading all the bags in my car, it didn't occur to me that I hadn't put on my seatbelt. Just as I was making my left, I noticed that there was a local cop car on the left lane on 11th St that I would be passing. I didn't think too much of it since I knew I was doing nothing wrong but then I noticed that I wasn't wearing my seatbelt so I quickly strapped it on. The officer (let's name him Dick, for simplicity) must have noticed this and all of a sudden makes a U-turn and starts following me. Finally, he turns on his lights and pulls me over. Below is what happens next: Me: Good morning, officer. Officer Dick: You know why I pulled you over? Me: No, sir. Officer Dick: Because you weren't wearing your seatbelt as you were making that left turn back there. Me: Seriously officer? As you can see, my seatbelt is adequately fastened now. Officer Dick: License and registration (So I rummage through my glove compartment and frantically try to find it but all that I come up with are the old ones but I know it's there since I paid it just months ago via AAA. The officer says it's ok to give me one of the older one.) (Officer Dick in his car a good 5 minutes before coming back. I'm still thinking that he'll just give me a warning and send me right along...) Officer Dick: Sign here please (pointing to the ticket). By signing, you're not admitting your guilt. (I know you're not suppose to be arguing with the cops since it's not gonna make them rip up the ticket but at this point, what did I have to lose. I was going to make sure that stupid cop heard what I had to say and how I felt). Me: Seriously, officer. You're still gonna give me a ticket. I didn't have my seatbelt by at most a block. Officer Dick: Well, it was more than a block. Me: Seriously. It must be really slow for you guys. There must not be enough gang violence, child molesters, rape or murders going on today that you're gonna be focusing on seatbelt violators. Officer Dick: I'm sorry you feel that way. Me: Man, in this economy...I bet you're really proud. Giving hard-working citizens tickets that they can barely afford. Especially, when this ticket is not even for a serious traffic violation. This is why a lot of people is leaving Tracy. People like you, Dick! Officer Dick: Well, have a good day. Me: Same to you and I hope I see you in court! I agree with a lot of the reviewers of Lathrop PD. Every cop in this part of town seems to be out there just avoiding the real police work and focusing on traffic violations. It's a darn shame. Someone needs to create an Iphone/Android app that keeps track of these idiot cops so that the public is made aware of the real added value they are providing to the city. I would be interested to see the police officer's name and the amount of tickets they write up every week. Hey, maybe we don't need an app. Just respond to this review if you happen to get a ticket with the officer's name and your violation. This way we can keep track of how many tickets a particular officer is writing up weekly/monthly.

Our front tire blew out. I called our insurance and he said if you don't feel safe call the CHP. I called CHP they dispatched officer Doug Carraway to the scene. He was our angel, he put his flashers on and park behind our RV until the tow truck came. My insurance could not find a big rig tow truck. So Officer Carraway called his dispatch and they send a big rig tow truck. Once Officer Carraway was on the scene I felt very much at ease. He was very nice and very reassuring that he would get us help. He stayed with us until the tow truck came and everything was taken care of. We need more officers like him. In these days of everyone thinking cops are bad. They have not met Officer Carraway He told me he was a 27 yr veteran of the CHP I thought he was a Sargent or Lieutenant. They way he handle things.

Both individuals who assisted me were very courteous and professional. Neither of them made me feel rushed or a burden even though time is very important to them. Nothing major ever really happens here except the occasional drunken spousal arguments and an occasional false house alarm going off. Personally, I grew up on the streets of L.A. and have the smarts to recognize when somethings just not right in my neighborhood. So the other night, I was up at my computer, probably yelping, and I see headlights of a car pull up and I look out to see if its the hubby. Instead I see a little beat up accord cruising, shining a flashlight into cars and looking into abandoned homes, and I knew it was about to go down. So I called 911 and I kid you not, I was still on the phone with the operator, giving her details and PD was already pulling their beams on these guys... I was pretty amazed, considering PD in L.A. would have taken waaaay longer, and the guys would have prolly broken into a few cars before PD got there. I watched like a nosy ass, as the police interviewed each of these fools, and eventually escorted them out of the area. That was the first, and last time I saw anything strange like that in my neighborhood, and I owe it to the Mountain House Sheriffs. I'm glad they are within reach, to protect and serve our neighborhood.

So...let me start with the fact that police officers nowadays get a bad rap. They get no respect…read moreand are vilified more often than they are praised. Allow me to illustrate why in part this is my stance; Wednesday July 24th 2026 at 4:30p I had lost my dog at a local strip mall. I was going out of my mind. Luckily a shop owner had seen someone put a dog that matched my description into car and drive off. Not only that but the shop owner had the make, model and last three digits of the cars' license plate number. I call the police and Officer Haydon pulls up to assess the situation and collect information. After doing just that I was instructed to drive to the nearest shelter to see if my dog had been dropped off there. I didn't want to leave but after a few minutes I did as Officer Haydon suggested. As I neared the shelter I received the call; Officer Haydon had through the efforts and resources of the Santa Clara Police Department located and contacted the man whose car matched the description. The gentleman had dropped the dog at a local veterinary clinic. Through tears I drove over to the clinic to be met by Officer Haydon as well as Hannah and Amanda. But where was the dog? Was it really my dog? Before I had a nervous breakdown the door to their car was opened and I was reunited with my dog Xerxes. It was now 6:30p. It was the most excruciating and frightening two hours of my life. I am forever indebted to Officer Haydon for his professionalism. For his dedication and his humanity. Being a Police Officer is so much more than enforcing laws. They are people like you and me who care for the community they serve. They voluntarily go through extensive training to serve and protect the very communities we and they live in. Let's give them their due. Spoiler alert: I haven't always been on the right side of the law but i have always had respect for the job these men and women do day in and day out. As a matter of fact whenever I see a police officer or member of our armed forces I take the time to Thank them for their efforts and service. I have shown my Son to do the same and he now shows his Son to do the same. So again; Thank you Officer Haydon for who you are and for what you do in Service to the badge, our communities and society as a whole. ‍

They are all very responsive, respectful and kind. Their community engagement is 2nd to none. One morning when I was driving my kids to school, my children wanted to wave to an officer at are stop light . The officer not only waved back, but he had a conversation with my kids about our cat and the officers cat. It was pretty funny hearing my 4-year old twins speaking to this officer at a red light about are cat and theirs. It made my kids day. Another interaction was with Cpl. Lou, who pulled me over for a minor infraction. He spoke to me kindly with respect. He asked for my documents, and while he was waiting for them he held a brief conversation with me about a topic I brought up. He ran my information and gave me a warning. Lastly, I was pulled over by Off. McBride for an expired registration. I didn't realize my req was expired (100% my fault) and he brought it to my attention. He was very kind, respectful, and informative. He wrote me a fix-it-ticket and explained in detail how to take care of it and resolve it. Again, it was 100% my fault I let my reg lapse, so I can't be mad about a ticket. Like I said, BPD is the gold standard of small town police departments. They are hiring excellent officers who are doing an excellent job of keeping Brentwood safe. I feel safe when walking around at night with my kids and that's a great feeling.
