I just saw a 2 hour in person presentation by Chief Millington today. What an amazing person and amazing police department. Most people have no idea how much the TPD does to protect and serve our community. In conjunction with the Lathrop and Manteca departments, there is a major initiative to curtail retal theft, which saves money for all of us. In addition, by pursuing grants from the county, state and federal governments (with the help of Congressman Harder), we are about to have one of the most sophisticated traffic control systems in the country, which reduces collisions and traffic deaths/injuries, this too helps reduce car insurance rates and the social costs for us all. Not to mention the various outreach and training programs they participate in. I'm going to sleep a lot better knowing we have such a strong and effective Police Department here in Tracy. read more

I moved to Tracy 4 months ago because it seemed like a good neighborhood to live in. I moved on the nice side also south Tracy. There is a guy who lives on my street who wakes everyone up late at night 11pm-5am he is at his porch cussing super loud. One time he was saying the N word super loud. It was pretty scary. I called the police and they never sent anyone. I haven't slept in over a week because of this issue. The person who picked up told me it was okay for me to assess the incident that he did not consider it dangerous and compared it to crossing the street. On 2/20/2021...I LOST MY I-PHONE AT THE DOG PARK....It was returned to me at 11 PM that night. I was staying at my sons house and I live in Fresno. I have a code on my phone so that it is not able to be broken into. Between the dispatcher and this officer they were able open my phone and find out who the phone belongs to. It was late and I was half asleep and I failed to get the officers name and give him my gratitude. He told my son and I that by looking at our pictures on my phone that "WE MATTERED." It is sad that police officers DO NOT follow the rules and laws they enforce. Why do they get to part in a red zone and block traffic in front of Starbucks to get a coffee. Not only that but sitting down drinking it while his car is blocking traffic in a busy parking lot. They also speed and tailgate all around town. 6 police cars parked there all in spaces except one cop was special. They all take a break at the same time? Tracy PD is a sorry excuse for what the city provides as law enforcement. IMHO, Tracy cops only excel at one thing--giving out traffic tickets. PERIOD. I'm pretty much a law-abiding citizen and avoid the law at all cost. I'm not sure if it was the way that I was wearing my baseball cap or what but for some reason there must have been a target on me this morning. Just finished doing my grocery shopping at the Safeway (corner of 11th & Corral Hollow) and was pulling out and making a left on 11th St (right be McDonalds). Because was caught up with loading all the bags in my car, it didn't occur to me that I hadn't put on my seatbelt. Just as I was making my left, I noticed that there was a local cop car on the left lane on 11th St that I would be passing. I didn't think too much of it since I knew I was doing nothing wrong but then I noticed that I wasn't wearing my seatbelt so I quickly strapped it on. The officer (let's name him Dick, for simplicity) must have noticed this and all of a sudden makes a U-turn and starts following me. Finally, he turns on his lights and pulls me over. Below is what happens next: Me: Good morning, officer. Officer Dick: You know why I pulled you over? Me: No, sir. Officer Dick: Because you weren't wearing your seatbelt as you were making that left turn back there. Me: Seriously officer? As you can see, my seatbelt is adequately fastened now. Officer Dick: License and registration (So I rummage through my glove compartment and frantically try to find it but all that I come up with are the old ones but I know it's there since I paid it just months ago via AAA. The officer says it's ok to give me one of the older one.) (Officer Dick in his car a good 5 minutes before coming back. I'm still thinking that he'll just give me a warning and send me right along...) Officer Dick: Sign here please (pointing to the ticket). By signing, you're not admitting your guilt. (I know you're not suppose to be arguing with the cops since it's not gonna make them rip up the ticket but at this point, what did I have to lose. I was going to make sure that stupid cop heard what I had to say and how I felt). Me: Seriously, officer. You're still gonna give me a ticket. I didn't have my seatbelt by at most a block. Officer Dick: Well, it was more than a block. Me: Seriously. It must be really slow for you guys. There must not be enough gang violence, child molesters, rape or murders going on today that you're gonna be focusing on seatbelt violators. Officer Dick: I'm sorry you feel that way. Me: Man, in this economy...I bet you're really proud. Giving hard-working citizens tickets that they can barely afford. Especially, when this ticket is not even for a serious traffic violation. This is why a lot of people is leaving Tracy. People like you, Dick! Officer Dick: Well, have a good day. Me: Same to you and I hope I see you in court! I agree with a lot of the reviewers of Lathrop PD. Every cop in this part of town seems to be out there just avoiding the real police work and focusing on traffic violations. It's a darn shame. Someone needs to create an Iphone/Android app that keeps track of these idiot cops so that the public is made aware of the real added value they are providing to the city. I would be interested to see the police officer's name and the amount of tickets they write up every week. Hey, maybe we don't need an app. Just respond to this review if you happen to get a ticket with the officer's name and your violation. This review is for dispatch and parking enforcement. On Wednesday 5/28/14, my rental car ran out of gas... first and last time! Anyway, I was able to coast into a turn lane (far enough back as to not block traffic) Luckily I was within walking distance of a gas station and was able to purchase the container at a nearby hardware store. I called the Tracy Police non emergency # as the darn gas tank is on the side that would put me standing in traffic and I thought they might help me. I was transferred to dispatch and the nice lady named Melissa (I think) told me she could have someone come out and assist me. A short while later, a nice young man named Raul (I think) from parking enforcement pulled up. He filled the tank and waited to make sure the car would start. I thanked him and was on my way. Whether it be suspicious vehicles in the area, a stolen vehicle, a simple question or concern etc.. This is directed at that one bad apple in the bunch. My wife works at Sports Authority and tonight (3/8/15) she had to call the Tracy Police Department for assistance due to a transient that frequents her store to shoplift and take showers. Well, I arrived there right after the incident and Tracy PD was still parked outside the store. My wife told me what was going on and then began to tell me how the officer was in her store and asked her if she had a certain item, cycling shoes I believe. She told the officer she did not have said item and the Tracy PD officer said to her, I don't need to be in here then. My wife mentioned that the officer was just a jerk about the situation. That's fine that you feel that you don't need to be in there and shop but it's not okay to be a complete jerk about it. Especially when you are in law enforcement. It also isn't necessary to feel the need to pass yourself off as an asshole too. It's no wonder why the police have such a bad reputation. The one's that feel the need to hide behind the badge and be a complete asshole when they are on duty just makes the whole lot of them look bad. Tracy is a pretty mellow small city with a low crime rate yet we still have cops with bad attitudes who treat the retail workers in the city they supposedly live in with disrespect. Shame on you Tracy PD officer. Next time someone shows you professional courtesy and customer service maybe you should take notes and learn a thing or two. read more

I walk my three dogs everyday, after parking my car in sports complex. They are very protective of me. Once a huge chow chow came after us and luckily a bike cop, who was passing by stopped and took the dog to its home. Next time a German Shepard came after us and I had to call 911 and the dispatcher was very nice. He sent animal shelter to take the dog to safety. Recently a pit bull came after us and I called animal shelter. I was worried that the dog might get hit by a car, so I took my dogs leash and put it on the pit bull and waited for the animal shelter. It was very hard for me to keep the pit bull from my dogs. Then I see a police car in the sports complex. I run to him and explain the situation to him and he generously agrees to put the dog in the back of his car until animal shelter came. He didn't even hesitate for a minute. Suddenly I realized the meaning of Sworn to protect and serve. Thanks to both animal shelter and Tracy police department because of who I feel safe when I walk. read more

If I could give this Department negative stars then I would but unfortunately I have to give this place at least one! Came to this shithole of a town on last Thursday night after I got off work to meet a long time friend and cousin halfway from where they lived in Stockton to get a hotel room and spend the following day with. We decided to meet at the Microsuite hotel which was off the tracyblvd exit. Unfortunately for us this place was randomly sold out. Sooo I got into the truck so we weren't all in separate vehicles and we started looking at other options in Tracy online on our phones. His cousin was getting his things together in his car who was parked behind us and then walked over to the truck to get it and help when a backpack feel out of the truck cause it was leaned up against the door. As he was picking up everything that fell out .. out of nowhere we hear "DONT MOVE GET ON THE GROUND NOW MOVE AND THIS DOG WILL BE LET LOOSE " What the fuvk!!!!!??????? Now I'm confused as to Wtf we did and Wtf was even going on and being told to put out hands up as well. He's handcuffed laying face down on the parking lot street, I'm handcuffed and sitting on the curb ( maybe cause I'm female) and the driver handcuffed and laying face down in the street too. We all still have no idea wtf is going on nor are we even told yet. Then separately we are all questioned about what we're doing . Obviously I told them how we were just here as a meeting spot to get a room for tomorrow and that I work late (restaurant/bar) live in Hayward so we all agreed that Tracy was the best. How everything was booked and we were just looking for a room somewhere else when they came up. Then they questioned me about how I knew them and how I got there bla bla finally OF corse having to let us go!!!!! Got back in the truck and come to find out they thought the sound of the backpack that fell out of the truck was him breaking the window to get in and rob the truck or steal it !!! No glass in the floor ... 2 people already sitting in the front ..we are at a hotel right out front in the parking lot... u thought what????? Now I'm no police officer but if you ask me that sounds like these officers are the dumbest assholes on the planet or they were just bored and had nothing to do so hoped they would come up on us doing or having something illegal. Which I believe is ILLEGAL!!! We were not commuting a crime by looking for a hotel room so your probable cause in stopping us on private property is bogus. They had no right to do what they did I would be mortified if I was apart of this department!!! Not to mention how degrading one of the officers was by implying I was a prostitue and my friend picked me up !!!!!! What?!?!!!! Why and how would u even get that??? Only because I'm a female?????? Yelping a Police department seems strange, but I was so disappointed in my experience today that I felt I needed to write this. The lady that helped me today at the desk was extremely rude. I went into the police station hoping I would be able to ask some questions and get some answers and to be able do this without being judged, talked to condescendingly and blatantly disregarded. This review is specifically directed at dispatch. I called because we have continued to have dogs barking behind us although we had left nice notes on their door and even confronted them directly, nicely of course, about the dogs...myself and two other neighbors. Between the three housed behind us there are 7 dogs. One barks and they all bark. I told Laura (dispatch officer) about this and that I just called on Saturday night but the barking is still going on. She was extremely condescending and rude. She basically treated me like some street thug that I'm not! In fact I'm college educated. Don't they teach dispatch how to professionally interact with citizens? Laura you should be ashamed of yourself and if you don't like your job then quit!!! I suggest you learn more about the city departments as well! She told me to call animal services so I asked her what are they going to do. Can you believe she said..."I don't know." What kind of education do you have? Lost my iPhone, was able to track it from Find My iPhone app. My iPhone ended up in Tracy, CA. Called Tracy Police Department, told them the reason of my call. Dispatcher was so helpful, she told me that she will get a duty police officer to call me. Half an hour later I get a call from Officer Ernie Ferraro, told him about my dilemma. I knew my situation was not an urgent matter so I understood it when he said I will try to go to that house just as soon as he get a chance. 30 minutes later he called me and he said he got my iPhone. I was so happy and overjoyed of the quickness and professionalism that Officer Ferraro has shown me. Went to Tracy to pick up my iphone, bought a thank you and gift card to give to Officer Ferraro but refused. I commend him of job well done. Thanks a million Officer Ferraro. read more
