Recently reported a very scary occurrence. We heard a very loud BOOM followed by another BOOM & ground vibration. This was an entire neighborhood w/several concerned residents. Windows vibrated, pets ran for cover and neighbors gathered outside. Nobody could figure it out. There wasn't any nearby construction or electrical transformer issues. There were no gas line issues either. Officers came to inspect the area. They were quick, helpful and offered possible theories. It was amazing to see them wk with each other to try to help us find the cause. They risk their lives constantly in effort to keep us safe & manage to respond to many issues/concerns non too big or to small. Thank you, keep up the excellent work!!! read more

Around 3:45 am on December 26th we heard someone shooting an automatic gun 15 shots were heard so we called 911 to report the incident they took our information and said they would notify the Modesto police dept well true to form they never showed up never drove around the neighborhood never contacted me about the video that I had they just don't do their jobs your not safe in this city because of the Modesto police dept and the City council Pathetic all of them read more

Honestly, they might be the slowest responders on Earth--I've had mall cops move faster. One time I was literally being chased by a tweaker on a bike, called them, and they told me it'd be a 2-3 hour wait. Like... what are they, a part-time book club? Volunteers? Undercover snails? The Modesto Police Department, by personnel, is relatively decent. By all other matters of bureaucracy, property handling, and communication--you'd assume the bloated budget would entice better practices. I am not familiar with the idiosyncrasies of Modesto law enforcement, and should not have to be in order to receive proper instruction/procedure. read more

I'm 13 years old but Ik I broke the law by now wearing my helmet but as I rode my bike down the sidewalk I was pulled over by 4 moter cop followed by 3 more police units to be issued a ticket for no helmet. Then the 8th vehicle was the truck that impounded my bike I'm 13 years old surrounded by 8 officers who left me 2 away from home and told me to walk they never even called my parents when I got home from walking my parents were so mad that the cops left me stranded told me to walk home and never even called my parents to let them know I was in trouble or that my bike was impounded WAY TO GO MPD THANKS FOR KEEPING KIDS SAFE LOLLL. read more

Someone hit our truck which was parked on the street in front of our house so hard that they pushed the truck in front of our neighbors driveway. I did not hear the crash, but apparently someone driving by saw it and reported it to the Modesto Police Dept a few minutes after it occurred around midnight. At 4:30 am I was awakened by bright lights in my bedroom coming from a police car. i got up and went outside to find our truck severely damaged and car parts strewn all over the sidewalk and road along with engine oil. This was from the car that hit our truck. I asked the officer what happened and he said the police department had received a call at midnight, but they didn't have time to check it out until 4:30am......4 and a half hours later? The only thing that concerned the officer was the fact that our truck was blocking our neighbors driveway so, Mr. helpful officer stated he would call a tow truck to move our truck.....at our expense of course! I asked him to give me a few minutes so, I could wake my husband. My husband came outside and was able to move the truck himself. The officer then left without saying anything more. Later that morning after cleaning up the car parts all over the sidewalk and street I drove my car up the street and around the block following the trail of engine oil and car parts that had fallen off the car. I was trying to see if I could locate the car that hit us. Sadly, that's what we citizens are forced to do here in Modesto. We have to do our own investigations. I believe that our truck was probably hit by a drunk driver. I also believe that if the police had responded in a timel manner they may have caught him as his car was heavily damaged and could not have gone far, but luckily for him he had nothing to worry about because he was afforded plenty of time to hide the car somewhere nearby. I find it shameful the lack of concern this officer showed, not to mention the snails pace response time. We were left with thousands of dollars worth of damage ie; entire truck bed had to be replaced as well as the bumper. This police department needs some serious overhauling as I do not feel confident in their ability to serve and protect us. read more

Just got finished dealing with a cop over stolen goods and as soon as he showed up he was a f***ing a**hole telling us we needed to leave and he put his hand up and told me to shut up and then started going on about how we're ridiculous. The way he spoke to us was just so horrible. If cops want you to respect them then maybe they should be more respectful of other people. And I don't understand how he can say we need to leave when we were not doing anything wrong and we weren't on anyones property and the fact that he told me to shut up...who does he think he is??? Terrible treatment of residents. I see multiple cars responding to one homeless person on a bike and then they stand around talking with each other. I don't call that risking their lives. Unfortunately, I had to call their non emergency line to file a vandalism report, they never picked up the call. I ended up having to go online to their website and file the report myself. The website stated their officer would follow up.........well, no follow up ever happened. What a joke!! You call the police to the scene of an accident and tell them the person that slammed in to your car has no insurance. . They don't care! They said unless you need an ambulance we don't send officers out. But they were quick to say.. if you are seen driving the vehicle with the damages you described you will receive a ticket. Protect and serve? I called for domestic violence on a minor. The officer acted concern until he seen what the child looked like (blue hair, black shirt) his attitude changed to aggressive making her cry. I was told I kidnapped her (even though she walked to my home) and it's not domestic violence (dispute the bruises) it was a spanking! Officer made a scene and yelled all of this at me. read more

Absolutely horrible phone lines. I was on hold an hour and a half waiting to hear anyone's voice and still didn't get a humans voice. How are they suppose to help the community when they don't pay attention to anyone needing their assistance that they have these non emergency lines for. This one is going to be crazy so hold on a moment. We all have a time when we see the lights and think the worst. We also have the times we are happy they are there. Ladies and gentleman of the department, I must give a positive for what you do and deal with. However, this time I understand one thing very clear. California has some interesting drivers and Modesto has impressive people. Almost got run over by an 18 wheeler at an intersection while flashers on and pushing a Yukon all wheel drive. Just my son and I. I have always stopped and wonder why police go by and don't stop to simply check. But with so much crap people try to pull this days ... I get it but not everyone is the same. Just as the gentleman that stopped and checked we were ok and offered to help. My son and I looked at each other and said "WOW" and he is young ! Horrible department, sadly I live in Modesto but I wish I didn't. My car got broken into while I was at a party and my window smashed and because I had one beer they replied to me with "maybe you shouldn't be at a party and this wouldn't happen" what in the fuck. This is a horrible department. Also those gangsters who attacked me pulled a gun on me and I told them about the gun and they still showed up 30 minutes later. Just had a great response from the Modesto PD and after seeing all the negative reviews I thought I should share mine. My daughter was receiving threatening texts from her X and was not sure how to address these thought we would call the Modesto PD and glad we did. After leaving a message with dispatch they sent two officers out to take a report had some great advice and told us what we should watch out for. The experience was much better than we anticipated and would like to thank the hard-working Modesto Police Department for all their help. read more

The Police Department of Modesto leaves plenty of room for criticism. They have made it a common practice to hire officers that are working either just to make their paycheck and really don't care much about the community, or you have the officers that will do anything to move up in rank. I don't know what requirements they have for somebody to be hired on as an officer....but from what I personally have witnessed, it is a very low requirement of knowledge that pertains to California Laws. I have seen officers arrest people and as they are doing so they have told the person they are handcuffing...."you probably will beat this in court but you won't be missing a night in jail. " Or how about a lady that was crossing the street in a crosswalk when an officer stopped her ...put her in handcuffs for questioning and then drove her to her car which was parked on private property .... her car was then impounded but she was released. I had a caregiver that was doing elderly abuse on me. She said she would go away, but did not. I called MPD. Then that caregiver left before MPD came to my house. So I called the dispatcher back to cancel the dispatch. But you know MPD showed up anyway to check on me!! That was awesome!! I couldn't believe it!! That was a kind gesture. They didn't have to do that. Two wonderful Officers in Blue, came to check on me. I will be forever grateful!! I stand with the Thin Blue Line!!! Stay Safe! God Bless! read more

My daughter was being attacked in her car with three small children in the car. Had already called 911 but was still waiting for responding officers. The attacker continued to pummel her and I could hear her and the children screaming. I called Modesto PD on the other line, it just kept ringing and ringing, never picked up. Then I called the Police Dispatch line which kept giving me choices like Press 1 for this, Press 2 for that. How about Press 8 for family being attacked!!! Finally 911 response showed up. read more

The officers with the Modesto Police Department have always been there when I have needed help. I manage an apartment complex in an "ehh" part of town. I have needed them on several occasions, including being assaulted, and having 2 drug addicts shooting up in our pool bathroom. Both times, police were there within 10 minutes to take my report and help me out. I wouldn't want their jobs, Modesto is a tough place to protect. All of the people who bash them, why don't you sign up to be a police officer? Obviously, you think you can do a better job!! read more

called the police for a noise complaint and about 2hrs later an officer called me and said he didn't want to go because he said he was afraid the house we called to complaint about was not cop friendly. He then asked if we could just go and confront them and if it gets violent then we can call 911 instead. adding he also stated to call the next day and complain when there are more cop available. Im not sure if they are under staffed or just that incompetent but i called four times to report a drunk driver in the parking lot of walmart. This guy had a open container the licence plate was out dated even . so when i seen that he had not been picked up i called the police station to ask why and they said they sent a police officer out and they did find the car illegally parked in the fire lane but noone was in it so they left. R u kidding me....very very ashamed to even call them police officers. If that guy would or maybe he will be drinking and driving and kill someone what then. I have had to file 5 different police reports on my ex. Most have been due to fraud and identity theft. These were reported almost a year ago and no one has contacting me about moving forward with charges. Criminals will continue to commit crimes when they know police won't do anything. I called the Modesto PD 3 hours ago because of a break in, and I'm still waiting. Had to call several times this year because of death threats and vandalism, same old story, 3 to 4 hour wait. One month ago I called because of vandalism and even signed a form for citizens arrest, the officer called the next day to say he wasn't going to make the arrest because he couldn't find the records of my restraining order ever being served to the piece of crap that's walking free. Modesto PD and modesto criminal justice system only protects the criminal, not the innocent victims. I had to give 1 star only because it wont let me give Zero. read more

As the manager of a Modesto retail store I can say that the Modesto police department usually never come to our location when we call to report a crime. Over the last several months, when officers do respond it is usually several hours after we place a call for assistance. Even when calling for serious issues such as violent customers or fights, they will often not arrive for several hours, or simply call us on the phone after a few hours to see if we still need them to come to our location. I have dealt with police departments in Rhode island, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, and in all those states police response time could be measured anywhere from seconds to a few minutes; in Modesto it is hours or not at all. The city of Modesto needs a complete overhaul of leadership and training for the Modesto PD. read more

This review is for the police station but with an emphasis on their relationship with animal control. I lived in Modesto for about a year and worked in Modesto for 2 years (with commute). I am writing this review a couple of years after leaving because I still feel guilty about not following up with the complaint that I brought against them. I had moved into a low-rent area while I saved up money for my house in San Jose. During that time, I had a neighbor with 2 kids that brought many animals into his backyard, only to starve them and beat them. He was not shy about beating the animals. He had long since stopped caring what people thought of him. Anyways, we offered him food for his dogs when we first moved in, but every time the bag of food was gone, he would stop feeding the dogs. Dogs would starve, then disappear from his yard and be replaced with new dogs and the process would start again. We brought this up with the animal control officer but the officer said he did not have time to deal with the abuse of dogs because he only had time to deal with risks to humans. I understand that he was overwhelmed but there was more than that - a complete lack of compassion for any of these abused animals. One chihuahua, that escaped under the fence, was so underfed that he looked like he came from one of those abused animal commercials. We ended up taking another of his dogs, a pit bull, who we still have today. She was only weeks old when we took her but still hides when we pick up towels sometimes (that was his favorite thing to hit them with), though she is mostly better now. After he gave her to us, he asked us if we could give him money for a hamburger (which of course we did). I was always concerned about the fact that he needed money for a hamburger for himself, and really not too much about what his kids needed, though he would ask for basics like milk for the kids sometimes. The police did not care about this situation. They did conduct a home visit, but talked to the kids and decided there was nothing concerning. During the year that we were at that residence, they went through 6 dogs. The dogs would be there one day, and replaced the next day. We did not make a big deal about the kids because there was a 17 year old brother that looked after the younger one, and we were nervous to make such a big deal that they would be separated from each other. This is sad and disturbing to me, but more importantly, I cannot understand why there was no concern at all from the police department. Overall, I believe there are some serious issues with the police department and their lack of interest in follow up. I do not feel like they asked us many questions or tried to find out anything more than what was at the surface level. This terrible guy must believe that he can get away with anything, because the police department is too overwhelmed to deal with anything that is not a direct threat. read more
