When in on a whim.... Came out with a good cut. The price is reasonable, $20. They prefer cash but do take credit cards. Used to be Rudy client but the lack of customer service drove me away, then I went to Rooselevelt barbers, but the guy I got just sucked so tried out Tracy's with good results. I usually go here when I need my brows done on short notice, and they always get me squeezed in within 15 minutes or so, even if I just drop in from off the street. The pricing is reasonable and Tracy always takes her time to make sure that your brows are shaped properly, instead of totally butchering them or making them too thin or short. They never look "funny" afterward. Loses a star because the last time I went, they were closed, and it seemed like it should have been normal business hours. Almost 10:00 in the morning on a Monday? Yelp gave a great reason to Give Tracy's A Try. While in Seattle visiting, I decided that I should get a hair makeover of sorts. I am limited by walking, and lack and general knowledge I am staying in. I, of course, went to the internet, and read the reviews on Yelp. The salon was an easy walk from my addy here. It was also easy to find. The Salon is a smaller salon, and is well decorated in a classic style that has modern elements. It is clean and well laid out. The guy that was in some of the previous reviews was not there. I gave the hair dresser a challenge to lift some of the red out of my hair to a very light blonde, give me a new haircut that will allow my layers to go to a bob eventually. The bleaching too a while, but the results are fabulous! Tracy is wonderful! She talked with me, listened to what I wanted, and gave me a great haircut. She told me how to maintain my color (I am from Alaska, and will need to color my own hair between visits to Seattle), and how to style. I asked for a "Wash & go" cut, which is exactly what I wanted, but she went the extra mile, and gave me a look that is fresh, a little spunky and free spirited, and hair that moves and begs to be touched. Tracy is a great stylist, but that's about as much as I can write in favor of this place. Business ethics are low and sinking. She since hired this guy who really lacks some significant styling skills. He over relies on electric razors which give very untextured, ugly cuts. He's consistently too heavy in the front, but neglects using thinning shears. It's the attention to detail that makes a stylist good, confidence, and quick execution. He doesn't have it. Last time I came in and this guy sat me down on a filthy chair with hair all over the floor, on the counter, and even in the seat itself. Note well, this is how you can get lice. He used a towel to wipe hair off my shoulder after the cut and put it back on the pile of (what I thought were) clean towels. This is totally unacceptable health code violation. So why slam Tracy for this? I've repeatedly tried to book around this guy and she flakes on me. I tip her well when she cuts, but she prefers female clients since women's cuts start at $40 usually. She doesn't care about you so if that matters, seek a stylist elsewhere! read more

Every head of head is different. I've been getting my haircut here long enough to watch Tracy work her magic and explain how she pairs your facial features, head shape, hair color etc... to come up with a haircut that accentuates your best features. She's always busy, so call a few days ahead for an appointment. I get a great looking cut, every time I see her, and she's always very personable. I would definitely recommend! A men's $15 and the man cutting my hair took meticulous time to make sure my hair was feathered consistently. I didn't know what style to try (I was feeling adventurous), so Tracy came over and showed me different ways I could work with it. "Just have fun with it!" She was very upbeat and positive. Tracy is so awesome that it compelled me to write my first yelp review ever. 1) She is really good. She's been doing this for 17 years. The first time I went in, I sat down and she asked me how often I cut my hair. I said every four weeks, and she was already on her way. She cuts so fast that it's kind of a blur. And it turned out to be the best hair cut I've ever had in my life. 2) She is super nice and personable. She recognized me the second time I went in and she remembered details from our first conversation. And if any customers look hungry she'll offer them her lunch. I've seen this happen multiple times. 3) Cheap!! Maybe $2 or $3 more than chain studios, but the quality is easily 2x. I spend $45 on a medium length hair cut for woman, which is a little bit pricy than I expected. I would say if you love a lot of layer, Tracy is the one to go for. But I'm not a big fun of layered hair, and she cut my hair in very uneven layers. It looks fine when she straighten it up in the salon, but my hair looks awful after I go home and wash it the next day. Now I need to wait for it to grow back. read more

I went in today to dye my hair for the first time. I wanted it done right (since I have a lot of hair, it's a big commitment), and inexpensively. Tracy's did just that! My appointment was last minute, and despite her being busy, she still had the time to sit down with me to help pick what shade to color my hair. She was so friendly and sweet, along with the rest of her staff. They do a great job of explaining what steps they are taking while cutting/coloring your hair. They kept offering me snacks and drinks, and made me feel right at home. I have never felt so comfortable in a hair salon! I visited Tracy's salon for the first time today for a simple haircut. I had made an appointment, but she told one of the walk ins that she would finish my haircut quickly so she could squeeze him in between me and her next appointment (scheduled for just 15 minutes later than I was). She didn't sweep the hair on the floor from the previous customer, and she didn't clean her clippers from his hair before using them on me. When I tried explaining to her what I wanted done to my hair, she told me that she would do what she thought looked good (we ended up with the haircut that I usually get). Her attention to detail was poor in some areas. However, the overall shape was right, and the price was fair. I doubt I'll come back. read more

I had a haircut here with Hanna. She did a great job, layering precisely with scissors and not using the razor shortcut, which never works with my hair type. It was not the fastest, but I was happy with the quality. The salon was supposed to be closed the day I had an appointment (Labor Day), but I appreciate they kept the appointment anyway. The atmosphere is great--both of the people I met in there (Tracy was one of them) were really nice and friendly. I do think what I wanted in terms of a hair cut seriously got lost in translation though... It turned out looking pretty good but not what I requested at all!! I said that I wanted "layers," which I always took to mean kind of... tiers of different length hair to create volume? Anyway, what I got was a (really beautifully) gradiated... like, reverse A cut--I can tell by running my hands through it that I'm going to be without volume for a while. ;) And I said I wanted to trim an inch or two off the ends, but I think I lost at least three inches here. As I said, cool cut -- Just not what I (thought I was) describing. Also, I inquired over the phone how much it would cost and was told $35, but it actually came to $45 + the tip. (Which, it does say that on their wall--It just would have been courteous to let me know that that was just the baseline price when I called.) And one last thing -- I was there for over an hour, not including wait time! :) Wasn't a problem for me today, but it's a really laid back place and nobody is getting rushed in or out. Something that was nice was that I got shampoo and conditioner, cut, and styled with a blow dryer and hot iron. Which I always honestly thought was part of the service anyway, but have seen that sometimes that's not the case at all. If you request a product in your hair or anything special like a "rinse" afterwards, it's not extra cost either. So there you go. read more
