Found this blessing of a studio when my hair was ruined by another salon (Styles by Nesha). Sydney is a saint who took me in and spent from 4:30pm 'til 10:30pm to help me salvage my hair! My hair was in desperate need of a color correction and plan to gain my hair's integrity again (refer to pics). Having your hair ruined is traumatic, but Sydney and the salon were compassionate and professionaproviding check ins during and after the service. The pictures speaks for themselves, I wouldn't trust anyone else in Seattle with my hair moving forward. Long story short - I contacted Lisa as a new customer for cut and very expensive color but an appointment could not be made for SEVEN weeks! When I arrived at the appointment, I was told that Lisa was out of the salon due to illness. I was also told that the appointment could not be rescheduled due to Lisa's planned trip to Mexico. Never ever EVER go to this place! The STYLISTS ARE AMAZING! But the front desk staff is the biggest nightmare one can experience. In the world of technological advancement, this salon majorly falls behind in terms of providing technical support. They let you request for appointments for time that is not available. In the past (Sep 23, 2021), I was confirmed for an appointment at 5 PM. I showed up and the salon was closed. There was no front desk staff. I knocked on the door but no one answered. Given they manually accept appointments, this behavior and experience is worse than sub par. I had tried to schedule an appointment the previous day also which was never answered. A few times I scheduled appointment and the stylist reached out to me because the front desk had confused the appointments and booked me and another person for the same time. Today, I requested for an appointment at 11 AM for a 1 PM appointment. It is 12:56 PM and the appointment is still not confirmed. I reached out to their number for confirmation and no answer. Left a message. Used their online chat feature which shows that they are online and I do not see the response at all. With the experience, they have the audacity to show on my appointment log book with them that I was the one who was a no show. If the management can not handle running this business, they should let the stylists manage it because everyone there is super talented but the management is messing it all up for the worth stylists there are. WORST EVER FRONT DESK AND MANAGEMENT IN SEATTLE! read more

TLTR: I would go again to the salon. I believe my experience was a fluke. I highly dislike leaving reviews under four stars, especially since I enjoyed my time at The Collage Salon A LOT. The hair stylist was amazing, very sweet and lovely to talk to. I'm giving 3/5 stars as an average of 5 stars for my experience and 2 stars for the result, which is 3.5, but I'm rounding it down. The hairstylist warned me that she was an expert on dyeing hair and not on updos which was a good warning, but I didn't expect the updo to turn out that unflattering. I scheduled an updo for an event, so it was clear from the beginning what I was going for. I assume they didn't have anyone available, so that's why my hair was done by a hairstylist who didn't have experience with updos. I have difficult hair, but I have had my hair done too many times to know when the updo was just not well done. It truly looked like a messy bun and I actually didn't notice it until I went back to the hotel and took a picture of it; otherwise I would've addressed it right when I was in the salon. Anyway, I'm leaving a picture and people can judge for themselves. I cannot emphasize enough that I personally think this was a fluke and if I go again, I'll love my hair. I've been getting my hair cut by Robert Rice for as long as I can remember... I want to say, since 2008 or thereabouts? In any case, it's been a long time and I have followed him from salon to salon... and currently, he is at Collage. I highly recommend him for multiple reasons. First, my hair is thick and unruly, and I have a lot of hair! Robert has been one of the only hairdressers that has been able to not just manage my hair, but make it look great! He takes his time and really takes pride in his work! He's also super entertaining so it's not awkwardly silent. He'll tell you some funny stories and generally is just a great conversationalist, so it will feel like you're meeting a friend at happy hour vs. a hair appointment. He also remembers so much about his clients, so if you're a regular he'll ask about your family (by name) and various things happening in your life -- he is awesome! As for the salon itself, they're doing a great job w/ covid precautions (taking temperatures and having you fill out a form and enforcing distancing). During normal times, they offer water or tea. There is also an area for you to hang up your coat and put on a robe if you'd like. Staff is friendly as well. I also like that you can make an appointment using their online system so if you're like me and want to see all the openings before choosing a hair cut time, this is an option, vs. calling in and having them list all the available dates/times. As for parking, it can be a little challenging since it's mainly street parking so this is one minor downside, but it is still less busy than downtown and usually it's possible to find a spot not too far away. read more

Steven was lovely! I booked a blowout last minute (as in, two hours before the appointment) without knowing anything about the salon or the stylists working there and ended up being pleasantly surprised! The salon itself is really clean and airy. I did find the waiting area very comfy (I could've melted into one of those couches lol). I was approached and checked in as soon as I walked up, and Steven was with me shortly. He was a sweetheart and so attentive! We chatted about DJing, 90s rave culture, tattoos, and life... All the stuff I like haha. He took his time styling my hair and making sure it was perfect, which I truly appreciated. I felt super comfortable the whole time and actually had fun (which isn't always the case for me when I visit the hair salon lol). And even more importantly, I love how my hair looks and feels! This review is for the brow master, Jen! There is no one better to transform your eyebrows! Jen is an expert in her field, and she's also a perfectionist in the best way. I started seeing Jen about four years ago. I took a break at some point to see if I could maintain my own eyebrows, and I also tried threading. I regretted it greatly, so I returned to Jen. She was able to get my eyebrows looking fuller and more shapely within a couple months. The amazing thing is that the longer you see her, the better your eyebrows will look! The effect is cumulative. My advice is to trust her completely! She will help develop a plan for your eyebrows, especially if you are wanting fuller brows. Brows are such an important feature of one's face. Jen is worth every penny, and I will never mess with my own eyebrows again. read more

Johnathan James has been doing my hair for over a decade now and each time he somehow outdoes himself. I know I can always walk in and get a fantastic cut and color no matter what. I seriously can't recommend him enough! I get red coloring in my hair (which can be a problem with less skilled stylists as it can look fake or fade quickly), but without fail Johnathan's always turn out perfectly, looking natural and fading and blending softly in between appointments. I'm regularly asked by people "Is that your natural hair color?!" Aside from his amazing hair skills, Johnathan is also just a great person to know, he's warm, kind, and pays special attention to the details you tell him. Jedediah is the stylist to see if you want beautiful and amazing looking hair. I had a balyage, color and cut set up for my appointment. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming. The salon is clean and modern. Jedediah did such an amazing job placing the Balyage and color in such a manner that made it looked "lit" from with in! I love the fact he did away with all my Cruella De Vil greys that had been going on my long black hair and gave me warm dimensional caramel colored highlights that were stunning on my black hair. The color had movement, none of that cookie cutter highlights! He took the time to listen to my concerns, I showed him pictures of what I was interested in. He the asked me what I liked about them. Jedediah took the time to do an excellent consultation and delivered on the execution of haircut and color that I truly love!! He has traveled as an educator and is a master in his field in color. He is a wealth of knowledge on color that I felt comfortable knowing he knew all the different process and what would be best for what I wanted on my hair color. I have never had a balyage that I have loved without having to redo something or the color wasn't what I wanted. Everything was perfect. Trust me when I say, I love Jedediah's work and have finally found someone who I trust 110% I am a very detailed oriented person and I love his attention to detail. I'm a little biased on the colorist I see, having known her through Yelp for so many years and following her as she's moved a few times along and her always making my hair just fabulous. She gets my hair. And me. So aside from: KIMBER IS THE BEST. SEE HER. RIGHT NOW. DO IT. No, I'M SERIOUS. WHY AREN'T YOU BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT NOW?? I'll stick to reviewing the location and overall salon for this one. This was my first visit to her at Collage. Very informative and easy to navigate website, with super easy online booking. Saturday morning-ish was a great time to go see here, parking was wide open all along the side streets and even right out front. Super cute shop. Touches of industrial, modern lathered in warm, dark woods and lighting that makes it feel very posh and welcoming. Cutest little yellow lab runs around the salon. He clutches his leash in his mouth not in the "walk me, please" way but in the "I'm walking myself" way. Super cute, but important to note in case you have allergies. He only said hi to us upon arrival and then kept to his owner's station and other places. Ample sized salon. They have well over a dozen chairs, waxing area, nail area, shampooing area, dressing area and all maintains the same welcoming place. For it's location, it is a very large place and they truly are well-appointed to be completely 'full service'. The air around the place was very friendly without being overly so. You know how sometimes salons everyone is just really loudly happy? Or you overhear WAY too much gossip or general stuff that can feel negative and oppressive when you can't shut it out? Not here. Oh, of course there as chatter of life issues, George Clooney's woman stuff, and everything you'd expect.. but the overhead music was calm and wonderful, people kept respectful voice volumes and it just added to the overall great atmosphere to the entire place. Kimber and I plotted a project hair for me this time, so now that she's enriched my "base color" and refreshed it, I'll be back a time or two soon to complete it all. So, I wasn't going to leave a review about my bad experience here, but the email I received from the owner, Doug, was just too shocking to ignore. He pretty much blames me for his aesthetician burning my skin. I thought you should know how the owner responds to an issue at his salon. Here's what happened: My sister and I went in to get our brows dyed and waxed by Jen. The day after both of us noticed we had burns underneath our right brows. Mine was really bad and very noticeable. A week later, I still had a huge scab. I emailed the salon with photos requesting a refund. The manager emailed me apologizing and said they would issue a refund. Great. Issue resolved, right? Nope! The next day, I received below email from the owner insinuating it was my fault that I got burned. O-M-G. I was just shocked that an owner would respond to a customer in this way. You'd think he would be concerned and try to find out what happened, instead he makes assumptions and blames the customer. Just to clarify a few things: - I don't use Retin-A or other special products. - It was my first time going to Jen. She didn't ask anything about my skin type or what type of products I use. - I've had my brows waxed many, many times without any issues. - My sister had previously been burned by Jen. At that time, Jen told her about the issues with Retin-A and to stop using Retin-A a few weeks before getting waxed. My sister hasn't used Retin-A in over a month. (I only learned about this after I got burned. If I had known, I wouldn't have gone to Jen.) Here's the owner's response. Decide if you want to go to a salon owned by this person: "Carmen, I discussed your situation with Jen and although hesitant to do so, we have decided to issue refunds for both you and your sister. It was made known to me that this has happened before. Jen is one of the most recognized brow artists in the Seattle area. It was very apparent from the photo that your brows looked great and although there was obviously something that affected your skin it most certainly wasn't the temperature of the wax. If it was, everyone that day would have been burned. As Jen has explained before, if you are using certain products on your skin (Retin-A for example), waxing can lift or damage your skin. An esthetician can not be responsible for that. Because of this, we will not be willing to issue refunds going forward. Please be careful if you want to be waxed when using other skin products. I'll preface this by saying that Lisa has been cutting my hair for 20 years. I've followed her to many a salon and she's seen me through a couple of marriages. lol She's the best hair designer ever. Hands down. I have difficult hair at best and she always takes the extra time to make sure it looks fantastic with all the minor details. Have you ever had a hair cut so good that people stop you on the street ask you who does it? Well, it happens to me on a regular basis. I enjoy the online booking feature, the salon is beautiful and well designed. Parking can be a bit of an issue but I think that's true of any business downtown. I always get a reminder text (without an additional phone call, thank you!) as well as a confirmation text for the appointment. I love businesses that embrace technology and make life easier for everyone. This last haircut I sat back and let Lisa do whatever she wanted. I trust her, I mean I've been with her longer than my current husband! ;-) It's amazing and quite possibly my favorite haircut I've ever had. Yep, I said it. My. Favorite. Haircut. Ever. I will say that I haven't tried any of the other services as I live in Lake Stevens and it's a bit of a ways to go. I'm sure they are wonderful but I can't attest to that personally. read more

I saw a colorist here a few months to lighten my medium brown hair to a shade of dark blonde, and I was disappointed with the results and felt that I was overcharged. I had scheduled a separate consultation at which I met the colorist and we talked about my expectations and her ideas on how to achieve them. We agreed that I would get all-over color and that she would bring me some product to accentuate my naturally wavy hair. She said that she would clean up my short hair cut (which I had cut myself) at no cost. "It will be a gift from me to you," she said. When I had my actual appointment about 10 days later, the colorist said that she did not write any notes on our consultation, so she basically forgot everything that we had talked about. She ended up doing a partial foil and blew my hair out straight after cleaning up the ends. I looked like Nancy Pelosi, and I was not really happy. Then, when I was presented with my bill, I saw that I had been charged for the blow dry. Between the price jump for the foil vs. the all-over color and the blow dry, I ended up spending $80 more than I expected. Not cool. I switched to a salon closer to my house, one where I see a colorist who is more professional and interested in what I have to say. read more

I got my second haircut from Taylor yesterday and I'll definitely be back. When I moved back to Seattle last September I knew finding a new barber was going to suck. And it did. I found Collage (and Taylor) after waiting to hear back from friends who tried other places and I wasn't disappointed. It isn't a true modern men's barber like I had in SF and LA but she does a great job and I don't have the need to keep looking. $40 for a men's cut is what I was previously paying anyway, so I don't feel like the price is steep for what a good trim costs. The salon itself is lively and friendly. It's your normal young(ish), modern salon. They carry good products and everyone in there looks highly trained and competent at their craft. I would have no problem recommending Collage to friends. It's easy to get to and street parking is right out in front. You get in, get out, and it's painless. read more

I had my eyebrows done by Jen for the first time and she has won me over! I have visited other people who have been good, but none as good as her! I have had many experiences where I walk away after having my brows done, feeling like they were life changing, but really the artist was just good at filling in my brows after a wax. The true test was after I washed my makeup off at the end of the day and what I thought were amazing brows, became not so amazing anymore! It is a different story with Jen! When Jen was done with my brows, I actually had thought that she had filled them in, but nope, they just looked THAT amazing, due to the shape she created! She is very sweet and in interested in interacting with your throughout the appointment...something that rarely happens, when I have gone other places. Do your brows a favor and go see her! I dislike leaving bad reviews. But I also think yelp is here to warn us all of the good and the bad experiences. My daughter has been getting her hair lifted to blond with Steven. In the beginning, all went well and he is really good at keeping hair healthy. The last two times have been pretty bad. Second to last time she came home with grey hair, we could tell it was the toner, so she washed and washed, and eventually, she was blond again. However, this last time has been super scary and a total nightmare. She went in blond (mind you, she has very dark Latino hair) to touch up roots, she left a mix of brown ginger with purple hair. Yes, purple. We immediately told him it was bad, he saw her the next day at 8 am and assured us all would be well. After tons of bleaching, again left the salon still red hair and with streaks of purple. I would say what really bothered me was his lack of owning his mistake. He tried to convince us that in "certain" lights she was blond. That she would "eventually" go back to blond; I couldn't believe it. Then he said to her "you are not crying, are you?" to a 17-year-old! Yes, she was crying, in fact, she has cried for the past two weeks until we found a place that we are hoping will fix this mess. He did refund our money but never admitted to being wrong. I find that unprofessional. And he used to have a salon called Blond. I thought he was good. I was mistaken. Pics attached. read more

I was so scared because my dirty blonde/brown/gray hair had been turned red by someone at another salon, and I was hoping he could do blonde balayage highlights to repair the mess. I had yet another great experience at The Collage Salon! This time I came in for a cut and partial balayage with JEDEDIAH ROBERTS and left with such a beautiful cut!!!! He really is an expert and so much fun to spend your time with. I really love my balayage! However, it's not exactly the color that I had hoped for (but that's my fault since I kept reiterating that I didn't want anything too drastic or too much contrast between highlight and my natural color). He really listened to me and my concerns and reassured me that it's easy to build than take away, and I agree. I 100% recommend Jedediah and am excited to keep going back for his incredible skills. I happened upon the Collage by chance, since it is two blocks from my apartment; but I couldn't be happier that I found it. Going to a new salon is always a bit of a nerve-racking experience, but both the friendly atmosphere and my amazing stylist (Josh White) made me wish I had tried the Collage sooner. Every time I've gone Josh has given me a haircut that complements my features and my hair type; and that is extremely easy to style on my own. For a wash-and-go girl like me, having a cut that is easy to style is essential to my well-being. The staff, especially Lisa the owner, are always welcoming and friendly, making every visit an extremely pleasant experience. Finally, they sell Kevin Murphy hair products, which I love; and send text reminders, which are absolutely genius because I can never keep track of those little appointment cards. If you are a busy working professional, I would not recommend this place. I scheduled an appoint for 1:30 on Friday. I showed up at 1:25. After waiting for 25 minutes without receiving an updated time table from the stylist or receptionist for my 1:30 appointment, I decided it leave. I understand that stylists get busy and appointments run late, but waiting 25 mins for a $55 man's haircut does not seem like good service. There are other salons in downtown that charge less, and don't make you wait (especially when you make an appointment). ***** Update: the manager of Collage called me to apologize, which was a nice gesture. However, I decided to look for another salon in the mean time. My criteria for choosing a salon: close to work (downtown Seattle), flexible (available appointments), and moderate price. I found Finecuts, and I highly recommend it! The manager of the store fit me right in, cut my hair (great job!), and it cost $25.00. So, I prefer Finecuts, and I do not recommend Collage. read more

She know I love the swirling foot bath and will work the appointment so I get as much foot bath time as possible while getting everything done in a timely fashion. Before I start this review, let me just say the back story. My nana, who is 88 years old, lives with me and my family. She has been giving herself perms every other month for her whole life. In the last year or so, she became much "older"- stopped going out, very fragile, hard for her to get around, etc. What once was a beautiful nest of curls that had been delicately created became a long, straight, gray mop. When her hair started to reach almost her bellybutton, my parents rested the responsibility on me to find a salon and take her to get her hair cut and permed. After searching many yelp reviews, I chose the collage because I wanted to go somewhere fancy (my nana is very picky and sassy) and it had amazing reviews. I scheduled my nana for a perm and haircut with Mari and myself for a pedicure and CND shellac manicure with Heather. Mari called me to get a little more info about my nana, and I told her how much she wanted to take off (she was looking to go to about her chin, well more than a foot of hair would need to come off.) She seemed hesitant about the perm over the phone, but I explained the situation to her and we ended the call on a nice note. The day came for our appointment, and Heather was ready for me first. She patiently waited until Mari was ready for my nana, and I walked back with them. Everyone told my nana how gorgeous she was and what a beautiful head of hair she had. As they were leaving, Mari said she would talk to my nana about the perm, and looked at me, shaking her head and mouthing the word "no." WHAT? I thought to myself. Aren't I paying this lady $215 for a perm and a haircut? When we got to the chair, Mari asked my nana why she wanted a perm. Being old, and Hawaiian, my nana said blatantly "because my granddaughter wants me to." I'm guessing she was sort of joking. I know she wanted a perm, but I also know it's hard for her to admit that she couldn't take care of her hair the way she used to (and wants to!) now. Mari went on to explain that to get the most curl possible, her hair would dry up and become frizzy, and then went on the touch the ends of my hair (as if pointing out an example of frizziness?). She explained to my nana (but mostly me) that she wanted to show some other looks on her phone that wouldn't need my nana to get a permanent. I was quite hesitant. I had scheduled a perm, and that was what I wanted my nana to get, and I knew she wanted one too, even if she was being proud about it. She then went on to tell my nana that I was a hover-er granddaughter, and called me a "helicopter." She told me she would take good care of her. Getting strong vibes that I was no longer welcome at the consultation, I told my nana I loved her and I would be away getting my nails done. The mani pedi was just as relaxing and more as a $100 mani pedi should be. Heather was wonderful and super nice, she was talkative but not too much, and she did a great job. I love the results and will definitely be going back to see her. While my nails were drying, Mari walked my nana to the nail section of the salon to unveil her new, sleek bob. It was beautiful, I can't say that it wasn't. But I more noticed the lack of a perm. Her hair was straight as could be, maybe with a little added volume from product or blowdrying. But she seemed happy, and she hugged Mari before she left, so I was happy. And it really did look great. When we went to pay, the girl at the front desk was super polite. She explained to me that my stuff was $100 and my nana's was $250, coming to a total of $350. I added gratuity and we left, without thinking much of it. On the way back, I thought back to the perm and haircut price I had seen online. Wasn't it $215? Here's the kicker- they charged me for MORE than a haircut and perm were priced, and we only got a haircut. I texted my dad about what to do, and he called the salon. The receptionist was, again, extremely polite and refunded my card $160 immediately. But if I hadn't noticed, I would've been screwed out of that money for a service I scheduled for my grandma (and wanted) but did not receive because of the hairdresser's opinion. Overall it was a super nice atmosphere and I'd like to go back but the whole experience with Mari has left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe try another salon next time. read more
