I can't say enough thanks! The staff go out of their way to be helpful. They are courteous and well informed about their products. Check out is friendly and efficient. It's a small store and has an even smaller parking lot, but eventually I can find a spot. (The overflow parking is Harris Teeter's across the street.) The shelves are always fully stocked and the plants and flowers are beautiful. I have some complaints about the continuity of a few product lines, a fault shared by other Trader Joe's, but overall I am very happy with this store. read more

Trader Joe's located in Asheville is crazy -- parking lot insane! :) Aside from that, one of the best parts about stopping by this Trader Joe's in North Carolina was finding tons of the coveted mini tote bags! I had to grab several before they disappeared because I know how quickly they sell out in California! Beyond the mini totes, this location has the same shopping experience. Negative five stars for the click-ish, snarky employees who are more interested in looking cool to their fellow employees than simply showing kindness to a person who needs help finding something at a new location. I was told, rather sarcastically, that TJ's doesn't carry a product I buy at every Trader Joe's from Florida to Virginia to Louisiana, because it's a "brand name" - only to eventually find it on my own accord. I happened to see her again as our cashier and pointed it out as friendly as I could muster, and got an "oh" in return. Just a reminder, kindness is free. read more

This Trader Joe's is well stocked with the staff replenishing and organizing all day long. Staff are very helpful and friendly in case you can't find that item you normally get at your local TJ's. The produce is fresh as well as the perishable items. The wine section seemed larger than other TJ's but that could be because they don't have a hard spirits section as that is controlled by NC ABC. read more

ASHEVILLE NEEDS ANOTHER TRADER JOE'S! Trader Joe's is my absolute favorite grocery store. You can't go wrong with anything here, I especially love their frozen foods for quick single person meals. This location does food samples, and wine samples! Staff is always friendly. My gripe with this location is that the parking lot is not large enough. Most times I come here I have to circle around for a spot or get stuck in some kind of line of cars trying to park. This town DEFINITELY needs another location, this one gets so busy! read more

While this TJ seems to be one of the busier locations I've frequented across the East Coast, the workers here are immaculate! I always see them going out of their way to help one another, and their customers. I always enjoy talking to the people at the checkout line. Great produce, clean facilities, and working to keep things stocked. As someone new to this location, something I noticed that is atypical to other experiences I've had, is that there seems to be no consistent "down" or "quieter" time. Usually the weekdays during 9-5 at most TJ's are more quiet, but that doesn't seem true to the Asheville location. This has nothing to do with my rating, but wanted to note for those who are visiting or new to the area or have young children or require quieter environments, and are trying to plan around that. read more

I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's. I love their products and the easy laid back vibe that seems to be part of their brand. This is personified in their staff who coast to coast (in my experience) are knowledgeable, friendly and supportive. All except one woman at this store called Kathy. She is just the worst. She has been rude to my kids, rude to me and rude to me in front of my kids. I do everything I can to avoid her checkout lane but sometimes it's impossible and boy do I regret it. It would be far more fitting if her name was Karen (she just has that vibe about her) but she is the bitter pill in an otherwise great experience. Shame that this one woman drags everything about the experience down. Real shame. Kathy, do better despite your high opinions of yourself (she will happily tell you how much people like her) you come across as a deeply unpleasant person. read more

This TJ's was a quick stop when visiting Asheville. And just like TJ's in other locations, the workers were happy and helpful :). One minor difficulty at this store though is that the parking lot is pretty small. Remember at this location that the cars drive in a counter-clockwise direction in the parking lot!! My husband backed out of our space and almost started to try and go in the opposite direction! A nice lady used hand signals to let us know that it only goes counter-clockwise :). read more

What a love I have for Trader Joe's! Although every time I go here somehow I just end up with a ton of snack foods and no real meals ha. The employees are so happy and helpful. I genuinely enjoy interacting with them. They are hustling and happy about it. Win win. The food and snack selection is excellent. Swoon. The pricing is absolutely fair and even lower than most places right now (I have been noticing a steady increase). I have to dock a star for two things- 1. why do people like their wine selection? Every time I partake I wake with the worst hangover. The other wines (not Trader Joe's brand) are cheaper at ingles (if your flexible and I am hahah). 2. The parking and store spacing If you get there at certain times it's fine. If you go during prime time, you might find yourself claustrophobic in the small aisles and struggling to find a space to leave the car. That being said, still grateful for this place. read more

This location has always been great but today I had a horrible experience and I'm never going back to this specific location as long as I live. I decided to go to Trader Joe's for ice cream after my partner had some medical issues which resulted in me being in the ER for 6 hours. After grabbing some ice cream for my partner I went to check out a register that already had a customer at it. I waited for a second for the person in front of me to finish checking out then when it was my turn the cashier turned to the next register to talk to his peers. I waited there awkwardly on my phone and I could see him glancing at me. After a little bit he comes over, I say "hey how's it going!" and I get no response. He takes my stuff, starts to log into his register then looks up and passive aggressively says "I wassss actually closed, just so you know". I've never worked at Trader Joe's so I had no idea he had closed his register and he didn't tell me that he closed his register he just walked away while I was standing there after he checked his last customer out. I immediately grabbed my 2 items and started to walk to another cashier after he said that. He then raised his voice at me twice demanding me to come back and check out with him because he "wouldn't be able to close his register otherwise" but he actually was just afraid of getting in trouble and didn't want anyone to know why I didn't want to check out with him anymore. He forcully asked for my items to begin scanning again and I just decided to leave and go to Harris teeter instead. I've never been yelled at by a Trader Joe's employee. That is an oxymoron and something that I could've never imagined would happen. The people here are always so sweet and it's heartbreaking that the one bad egg is the reason I won't be coming back. If you go here don't Check out with the guy with the long hair/glasses. He's the only person that has given me a bad experience in the 3 years that I've been coming here. read more

I'm a fan of Trader Joe's - they sell quality goods at reasonable prices in a low-key atmosphere. While it's not one of my go-to places at home for serious grocery shopping, I do enjoy shopping here for the occasional item. This TJ's was not far from where we were staying in Asheville. I wanted to get some bottles of water for our room so I decided to take a little walk. The setup is similar to other TJ's I've been to so it was easy to navigate. This was a pretty routine TJ trip for me, but what really stood out for me was the customer service. My cashier who was ringing me out was so friendly - like wow, we kind of actually had a half-decent conversation. I was shook and totally impressed at his customer service skills - Tim, you're awesome! Stopped in here on a sunny Tuesday around 12pm... not only was there PLENTY of parking, but there was no line. That's right. I drove right into a parking spot and walked right in the door. If it wasn't for all of the COVID reminders, I would have forgotten we were still in a pandemic. It was a like nothing I've ever really seen in a TJ's... they're always so busy. So pleased surprised to get in and grab my few things. As always the staff were super friendly and attentive. Everyone was wearing a mask and keeping distance. Hooray for Trader Joes! I especially love how they have so many seasonal/festive food options. For instance, in the fall, they have pumpkin, maple, squash everything! Last week I stocked up for an event and was able to buy tons of fall flavored foods. Some of my favorites were the pumpkin cranberry crisp crackers, pepita salsa and the maple leaf cookies. During the winter holidays, they have tons of festive chocolates and gingerbread house kits and peppermint everything. This is also my favorite place in town to buy flowers. They always have a great selection of arrangements that are totally affordable. They also often have succulents or other potted plants. For the fall time, they have day of the dead skulls with plants in them. So cool. A real highlight of Trader Joes is the staff, truly, they are so friendly and helpful. I've never, ever had a bad experience with the staff here. It is always a joy to go through the check out lane as they are always talkative and funny and I notice that they often ask me questions such as "What's your favorite part of fall?," "Have you seen the new batman movie?," "Do you have an exciting weekend planned?" etc. I love it. Trader Joes has a rockin' wine and beer selection as well. I am no connoisseur, but they have a pretty large selection considering how small their store is and they have a nice range of prices, starting of course with the $2.99 Charles Shaw wine (aka 3 buck Chuck). This is one of my favorite grocery stores as it is truly an experience going here. read more

I have always loved going to this Trader Joe's in Asheville. It's a great store that's always clean, well stocked and customer friendly. Because of Covid you now have to wait in a line outside, 6 feet apart, masks on until previous shoppers leave before you are let in. They only let a certain amount of folks in at one time. The line may look intimidating when you walk up but it does go quickly. If you want to skip the line go early when they open (I walked right in that time). There are no samples, all staff wear masks and gloves and there is plexiglass at checkout. The store seems extra clean and orderly and I felt safe! Staff is very friendly and helpful. The first time we ever came to this store we were walking by with our dog so I stayed outside with him while my husband ran in. An employee saw me, walked out and asked if I wanted him to watch our dog so I could go in and shop. I declined but wow what Awesome customer service! Josh and Ethan checked us out this time and they were so happy and friendly we walked out laughing! In these crazy times I feel like that's pretty rare. Trader Joe's has a great team with those two- don't split them up! I highly recommend this place! read more

It's a standard Trader Joes in every sense. They seem to have moved things around a bit from regular ones, but otherwise this one is far busier than most. The Merrimon Trader Joes' parking lot is just unacceptable. Just trying to duck in an get some things, you'd think people are camping overnight for black friday deals on the new video game console. It took me 5 minutes to shop, 25 minutes just to park and then unpark. This place is a joke. They need to move to just a few blocks away to a location that doesn't frustrate every single person trying to get in and out of this store. read more

Any Trader Joe's is a good Trader Joe's...and the Asheville location is no exception. They have a great selection of affordable everything: produce, fruit, cheeses, WINE, BEER, dairy, meat (really just good for chicken or pork) and every necessary household item you could need like cleaners, toilet paper, shampoos and soaps. The staff here is also great. They are always good for a conversation while checking out or browsing through the store. The parking lot can be VERY full...so plan on a bit of a walk to the front door if you have to park far away (even consider parking at Harris Teeter). Remember that they produce their own products, so don't go looking for Prego, Kraft or other known brands. Chances are, you'll like their brand better anyway. read more

As a So. California native I was thrilled when Trader Joe's finally made it's way to AVL! There are certain items you can only find at TJ's and you can't beat their prices. Not super thrilled with quality of produce here but love everything else. We have been long time fans of TJ's and shopping with them for about 20yrs. Their products are amazing in taste and quality! Our family loves the seasonal pumpkin bread mixes. The deli sauces are amazing (the Zoug sauce is a favorite). Every time we go we purchase 1-2 containers of the Trader Joe's dark chocolate peanut butter cups-- they are THE best. Right now we go once every few months. Our only complaint is that we don't have one closer to our town!!! We would be there 1-2 times a week if the location was closer to us. read more

It took me over a year after Trader Joe's opened in Asheville before I ever went in. My feelings from the monthly flyers in the mail, were that it was over-hyped. It's become a regular stop for me, particularly since the pandemic begin. From the beginning, Trader Joe's took extra precautions, limiting people, requiring masks and for a while squirting sanitizer into each shopper's hands. While most grocery stores have done only minimal precautions as required by the state, Trader Joe's has been exercising caution from the beginning. I love TJ's but this location isn't as good as the one in Charleston. I hate to say it..but the selection isn't as good. It almost seems like the store is smaller? The location is a little frustrating to get to sometimes because it's right by Harris Teeter and Green Leaf. I just wanted to give a shout out to two amazing employees who I had the pleasure of dealing with. First, Trader Joes is such a pleasure to shop at in general, such great prices and products. But what stands out to me is the customer service. Every employee is just so helpful and pleasant. When dealing with our local supermarket giant, Ingles, with the horrendous customer service and grumpy cashiers, it is such a pleasure to interact with Trader Joes cashier. On my last trip, my cashier and bagger, Kyle and Sean, were such delights and we had a great conversation (time appropriate for other shoppers of course).
