Not everyone would think to go to a grocery store for a sandwich but I'm glad I did. They have a daily special where you can purchase a full sub for only $8 and change so of course that's what I got. I wanted wheat bread but they were out so I went with the regular white. No biggie. With that I got a tuna sub with lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers and salt and pepper. Delicious and the sandwich was HUGE. MUCH better than Subway. I have to point out; when I get a sandwich I usually get green peppers but they had mixed colors for their peppers. I made a comment of how I only get the green ones but that the mixed is fine; the guy grabs a handful and this sweet man picks out just the green peppers for my sandwich. He didn't have to do that and I was so very thankful. Huge plus for just that. Shows he actually cares and I love that! Wish I got his name. But sir, if you see this, THANK YOU!! You made my day with that small gesture. I walked around the store and stumbled upon the Snyders pretzel pieces and they were on sale 2/$5. I hadn't had those in forever so of course I bought two bags. The sour cream and caramelized onion flavor.....SO GOOD!!!!!! Will 100% go back if I'm ever in the area. Horrible! Bought 9 new items and got flagged three times during self checkout. Should have left and walked over to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Each time they came over and watched the video three or four times, on the third she was like you didn't scan your popcorn then was like oh no there it is, sorry hunny, the amount of restraint. The lady next to me was also ready to walk out but hung in there. Literally will never step in any Harris Teeter again please build more Publix in NC. read more

Harris Teeter is my go to for many things, but especially for the fresh fish and bacon. Marie is the best and I look forward to seeing her and chatting...she is originally from Senegal, which I picked up on because of her accent. I shared with her that I lived in Senegal for some time and she was tickled when I spoke the native Wolof language. I look forward to seeing her on Fridays when I'm there to make weekly fish purchase for my mom. The store is always clean and well stocked. read more

Just recently moved to the Asheville area. Have tried all the grocery chains available here locally. I found Harris Teeter to be the worst, although I was less surprised when I found out that they're a Kroger-owned brand. Many of our key items were MUCH higher priced at this store. Produce quality was on-par with Ingles, the other high end grocery in the area so no problem there. A key drawback is that the Kroger-designed Harris Teeter shopping app is mostly worthless. Unlike other chains, this app does NOT reflect any stock on hand. I got to the store looking for items that I had saved in my shopping list only to find out that they weren't in stock, and in some cases NEVER in stock! This is typical of the Kroger 1990's technology. Hardly useful for the shopper. read more

Harris Teeter is a full service super market with a nice salad bar and hot food venue. I was working in Asheville for 3 weeks and had a hotel room with cooking facililties. This was my go to place to get anything I wanted. read more

Barkery ovens consistent on temperature. Cookies uncooked gross The food on the hot bar is hard and you can't chew it. ALWAYS CHECK YOU BILL carefully before paying. They overcharged me for an item, and when I pointed this out, they corrected it but tacked on an extra charge making the bill even higher. I was there at the Harris Teeter in Asheville on 10:30 Sunday night, almost no one was wearing a mask. There was a "security guard" who did nothing to prevent people without masks from entering the store, despite the statewide mandate to wear masks in stores I got hassled by two derelicts who thought it was fun to get all up in the face of a 70+ senior with a mask who obviously was trying to social distance The checkout clerk was more amused than upset when I told her about it. I love going to Harris Teeter. This is one of my favorites in NC. I like how they offer a lot of organic items and Vegan varieties. They tend to have about the same amount in price point compared to Publix's or Bi Lo. They have great produce. The produce always looks so fresh and neatly stacked. Harris Teeter Hendersonville is a pleasant shopping experience and the store is clean except for the bathroom which was filthy and smelled the one and only time I went in. Corporate has the store follow up on any complaint so I got a call at home. Caller identified herself as the mgr and wanted to know what time I was in the store. This is obviously so the complaining customer, in this case me, can be identified. She also quizzed me about the condition of the bathroom instead of apologizing. I dropped in to buy some fresh produce and my boyfriend needed some beer. This was my first and only experience here. It was not a good one. I purchased strawberries, raspberries, grapes, apples, and peppers. When I got home and started eating the fruit I purchased, it was all different types of rotten. The berries were growing fuzz, the grapes were mushy and covered in a strange powder, the apples tasted like they had fermented, and the peppers were gross. My boyfriend's beer was fine, but I'm not sure how a grocery store could mess that up. The supermarket looks very high-end inside, but the quality of the produce absolutely does not match. Why 5 stars? Because this certainly fits into the new wave of grocery stores. --- --- --- Grocery stores used to like a larger version of a modern day Walgreens, if you were lucky. Some of them were more like a larger version of a semi-run down convenient store. But those types of establishments have gone the way of the DoDo bird. Grocery stores now have to be fancy and have specialty items and items you used to have to go other places for. Harris Teeter is the new school. I spent at least 20 minutes perusing the local beer selection. This kind of variety used to only be found at good liquor stores, but why would Harris Teeter want you to leave the premises for your beer run, when they can hook you up here? Large/bright produce and meat departments, sparkling clean/modern aisles and shelving, and of course, all the trendy/local grocery brands a guy could ask for - all found at Harris Teeter. Is there a bit of a markup on some of these items, compared to other places? Probably. But I'm willing to pay a small premium for convenience, niceness and variety. I'd never been to a Harris Teeter before this, so I don't know if they are all this nice, but I'm a fan. I love Publix, but my Publix could take a couple of notes from this setup. read more

Just not a fan. Expansive store, but things seemed a bit scattered to me. Finding specific dietary-safe items (e.g. gluten free) was a challenge, and the signage was very limited. I was unable to find the first few items on my list, so I just gave up and went to another grocer close by. The store was clean, and it's in a good location (I think), but also, trying to get out of this place was a nightmare. Took me 15 minutes to make a left turn out of the lot. Do yourself a favor, and make Harris Teeter your lunch spot through the week. I find myself at least a few times a week needing a quick and healthy lunch. Harris Teeter is my spot. The salad bar is the best deal in town. I can fill up a huge container of greens and toppings for less than five bucks. Go wild and get a sub on top of that if you want. They are probably going to be on sale for like $4.99. Oh is it Monday? Grab a big af pizza for $7.99. Any other day of the week, you can do a slice of pizza with a side salad for 5 bucks. Sushi is made right there and someone is usually on staff to help you with questions. On top of my love of lunch at Harris Teeter, obviously it is a good grocery store too. I would definitely sign up for the VIC card because you can get some good deals that way. On a street that already has Greenlife, Trader Joe's, Fresh Market and (a dying) Ingles, I'm not quite sure what niche Harris Teeter is trying to fill. It's nice to have one on this side of town instead of having to go to South Asheville...but I don't quite understand the necessity. This place is palatial and open 24 hours. Chances are they are going to have what you need. I'd definitely go here before Ingles, they have more selection than Trader Joe's (which is a very specific kind of store anyway), they have better prices than Fresh Market and they have more parking than Greenlife. Their prepared foods are great, as is their bakery and meat selection. It might not be my first choice for shopping, but it is a great option for this area. read more

Thus is such a nice looking store all the way around. I love that they have samples all around the fruits, cheese and deli area every day. One of my favorite things is the deli here and their dinner deals you need to check it out. And when you hot it on prime rib night! ! Oh my, it's divine!! The bakery and deli folks are very attentive which is nice and the lines move pretty quick. And if you are a coupon user thus is your gold mine on weeks when they triple coupon valie. This place got the job done when we needed some basics like Tums, club soda and egg nog. Although it's Kroger owned, the only Kroger brand products you'll find are their Simple Truth stuff. So this place is a tad pricier than your standard grocer because of providing mostly all-natural and organic options. Not my first choice when I'm on vacation and just want something easy. I can't shop at this grocery store anymore. A really bad experience at this store happened today that was so frustrating, and other bad experiences have happened to the extent where I need to shop elsewhere. First, to check-out today took 25 minutes. As I understand every grocery store is going through staffing issues, 25 minutes is way too long. Second, while there were about 5 people standing behind me waiting to for check-out, an older male walked right up to the counter with a box of chocolates, bypassing us all, and the cashier was more than happy to check him out while all of us had been waiting in line for over 15 minutes. Third, the cashier kept on having issues with the register, which again, I understand. One of the managers came over to help her and instead of helping to bag any groceries (which I was doing because she was taking so long) or apologizing for the wait, or possibly helping her move the line more, he left-both times. Also, please know that masks are not enforced in this store so if this bothers you, then you need to shop elsewhere. read more

As a food stylist I've learned that Harris Teeter is where I should ALWAYS go first with my massive shopping lists. They consistently have the best selection of fresh (photo quality) produce and herbs. For quirky or out of season things to track down, I used to first swing by Whole Foods or Fresh Market, then I'd get to the Teeter to see the very things I assumed they wouldn't have. So. Go to Teeter first! The Teet's fish department is the best in town as far as reliably maintaining a predictable selection. I can always count on super fresh whole fish (clear eyes) and a broad selection of shellfish in varying sizes (sometimes I need small, sometimes large). Outside of professional preference, the Teet has become our regular grocery store, even though we live literally 3 blocks from the Haywood Rd Ingles (where Ingles is predictably oblivious of a golden opportunity in the Brooklyn of Avl). Teeter plays pleasant music--classical, not country. The store/checkout staff works hard at being pleasant--even personable. And HT store brand products are competitive (and somehow nicer) than "Loretta Lynne" brand. A bonus, the south end of the Teeter lot is the best place to park when TJs is busy. There's a well worn path between the two and 90% of the time I'm going to both stores anyway. Finally. To those who complain about having difficulty getting in or out of the parking lot, use the danged traffic light on Merrimon in front of 5 Guys! Could not be easier. read more

Have you ever woken up and wished there was an entire city block dedicated to grocery stores? Do you wake up in the middle of the night and fantasize about paying $9.00 for a 12 pack of Coke? Did you ever wonder what a green space used to look like? Have you ever wondered what not 1, not 2 but 3 grocery stores stacked within feet of each other looked like that all sell the SAME thing?! If you answered yes (or no) than look no further than this random mile long stretch of back to back grocery stores! Harris Teeter makes no sense to me. There is an overwhelming amount of self serve food stations when you immediately walk in the door. You become lost amongst bright lights, signs over everything (just in case you've never seen a pineapple before) and everything from milk to juice is displayed behind a glass case and shelving like you're at a jewelry store. I don't need pomp and circumstance from a grocery store when I'm trying to push off Stouffers lasagna as my own! Harris Teeter is over priced, badly designed and the parking lot is so big you need to use a flare gun to find your car. Grocery store fail. read more

I have lived in Asheville for 18 years and I was astonished I had never visited this place. My only excuse is that I usually shop at Earthfare, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods so I really try to stay organic. However, on a hunch I decided to try Harris Teeter one day when both Trader Joes and Green Life (close by) were both out of cucumbers!! I ended up really liking this place! Have you experienced the Express Lane online shopping!!! Holy Wonderful! Sure sure the store is clean & nice & kid friendly with their adorable little carts, blah blah... But for a working mom who wants to spend time with my babes as much as possible But most days doesn't want to pack all 1,000 items in the diaper bag & car, make sure the kids have gone potty/clean diapers, have enough layers on etc Just to go get some milk or veggies or whatever - a trip that w/o kids would take 10 min total, takes 35ish ... This is a true blessing! I order my groceries with my hubby by my side, sitting on my couch while catching up on his day &/or watching a doc on bird watchers (surprisingly delightful watch) - then on my way home after work next day I stop at HT who brings them out right away & puts them in my car for me! & Swipe, done! Talk about a Good Samaritan! My wife and I were visiting Asheville and picking up our granddaughter from school when we had a flat tire (nail) near this Harris Teeter so we parked in their lot. In our seventies, I guess we looked helpless and a Harris Teeter employee walks up to us asked if he could help. His name was Bruce Dees and he works in the Produce Department. He got a portable air compressor from his car , inflated the damaged tire but it wouldn't hold air so he removed the spare donut tire and inflated it so we could get to the school in time. Okay. Yes. There are totally too many grocery stores in a row. And yes sometimes it is too pricy but if you shop the deals, you can get some great stuff at a fair price. And it is inviting and simple there. The hot bar is also so great and much more epic and cheaper than greenlife. I make killer salads there. I would also like to say that the other day some naggers put multiple bottles of wine together and they broke in my car. I contacted the manager and he was so kind and responsive and helpful. I am fine with many grocery stores in one small area. I hail from Jersey, a world of density. I embrace choices. Harris is one of 'em. Selection of anything is outstanding. Obscure stuff is here, like mini fuzzy Easter chicks and hard-to-find candies. Joint feels homey, but with a touch of unpretentious modernity. I feel like I can go in there with gray hair and an old-ass sherpa-lined sweatjacket. Fresh samples abound. Employees are nice. After holidays sales are terrific (seasonal stuff). Most prices are good enough for us to get what we need and be happy. Parking is great. The food bars are a sight to see. You cannot help staring and salivating. There is so much to see. They are well maintained. Some prices here are too high on particular items, but not many. They close at certain times then reopen or shut down for the night, so keep that in mind. There is something for all. Some stuff is to die for, and some stuff is unremarkable. Chinese is wonderful, but the pizza "shack" was suprisingly strange. You can eat at some tables and a high counter at the front of the store. l hope this review helps you decide where you want to purchase your milk and cookies, organic* or not. *Hey, I'm all for it, but when you discover that you can't always afford it, you have to deal. Of course I want the best for my kids, but hunger does not have options. I hope that the snobby guy that my husband once knew reads this statement with his quote. This is a great store. I love the smell of a clean grocery store where you can smell the fresh produce, baking bread and pizza and all the other foods.
