2025.09.22 Trader Joe's has become a consistent comfort space. Not only are the restrooms always clean, but the marketing!! There's just something about the hand-lettered signs and special limited time or seasonal items that brings me a microdose of secret joy as I wander up and down each aisle, I came for the unsalted roasted almond slivers and I left with additional unexpected cheddar. I live in Cali and was visiting Salem, so I'm happy to visit TJs on my way to the Portland airport. (Guys there's also a Jollibees and a Meet Fresh here). Sending Cali love to Oregon!

I spent years never going in to Trader Joe's and totally regret it! My friend from Cali got me to go one time and now I'm hooked. Not only do they always have new seasonal items to try, but they have some staples (chili oil / frozen garlic) that I snag every time I go. The people who work there are so friendly, and always help you to find an item or something similar if they don't carry it or it's out of season. I also had someone recommend a recipe to me the other day with their streusel maple bread... delicious. Now I'm hooked on that too. Everything also feels fairly priced, I assumed this would be more like Whole Foods or New Seasons but it's not at all. Specifically I enjoy this location because of the employees but I'm sure any Trader Joe's would be great to visit. If you haven't gone, go!

I haven't been in awhile but there were lots of new snacks to try! I appreciate Trader Joe's always bringing in something new from time to time. All the workers were nice, especially the cashier registers! Some of the things I saw for the first time were the large variety of Korean foods like the well known kimbap, olive crackers, etc.

Did you know you can preorder flowers in bulk!? We DIY'd our wedding flowers using trading joes flowers and saved thousands. You just have to call ahead of time and request the flowers. The trick is, unless the color of the flower is a part of the label, you don't know what color you'll get. So Trader Joe's sells "white roses" so we were able to order multiple dozens of "white roses". And then the eucalyptus came as several different variations of eucalyptus. We didn't get to pick which types of eucalyptus we got, but they did let us swap out a few as needed, when we went to pick it up. That's how they get their flowers for so cheap, the colors they are sent from the distributors are random. So if you want to order Dahlias or Gerber Daisies for example, you would get a whole bunch of different random colors. So it only works if you are ordering very specific flowers they sell like "white roses" or don't care what color you get.

Turns out that this is pretty bananas

I am not sure exactly why, but ever since this pandemic has been going on the family hasn't been going to Trader Joe's nearly as much as we used to. Partly due to distance and gas prices and also because we get most of our groceries things delivered to us by one method or another. But I digress... My visit today was to pick up some flowers for my kids teachers at Holy Trinity Catholic School. Now since these aren't "dog house" bouquets they just needed to be simple. Fortunately there were these "Petite Bouquets" for only $3.99! This was perfect. I did snap a few pics, but I avoided any further impulse purchases.

Trader Joe's is addicting! There are so many types of snacks, chocolates, ice cream, cookies, nuts, jam, bread, and even produce. They sell fresh flowers too! And of course their logo bags on the walls. Just deciding which design bags to buy home took awhile. One can browse for hours, which includes making tough decisions which ones to purchase. The stores differ in size and may carry different and/or more products. If you have the time, visit a couple of Trader Joe's. The employees are very helpful in finding what you are looking for. However, when came closing time, we were given 15 minutes to select our purchases and head to the register. If you don't and still keep shopping, they will approach you and tell you they are closing and direct you to the registers. (LOL guilty). Then there were three employees helping to speed things up. One unloads my cart, one to ring up the items and the other bagging the items. So, the next stores, we tried not to go near closing time. The ambiance of the store is cool. I like the bright lights for me to see everything better.

I have been a Trader Joe's fan forever. 1) See prior reviews. 2) I am old. Every fall Trader Joe's celebrates Pumpkin Palooza and I will admit I have typically been kind of cynical about it. I am not a Starbuck's PSL fan at all so the hype didn't usually get me. This year my #1 shopping minion has been doing his darndest to get me to eat because of chemo, etc. and this is the list of fall foods, some not pumpkin, mostly processed, he has purchased for me and the teen: pumpkin blondies pumpkin batons* yogurt frosted pumpkin cookies maple butter* pecan praline granola* butternut squash zig zags pumpkin ravioli butternut squash mac and cheese* cinnamon Brooklyn babka* apple cider donuts pumpkin joe joes* ginger granola maple pecan clusters cereal* pumpkin empañadas pumpkin samosas maple leaf cookies* pumpkin bagels gluten free pumpkin bagels chocolate moussecakes shaped like pumpkins* mini carrot cakes* pumpkin rolls* cute fall chocolates w/ hazelnut or walnut filling He never found the pumpkin caramel kringle , so sad. I liked the cheesecake kringle he brought me a while back. We liked most things, but I have starred my favorites. Apparently some Trader Joe's stores have had supply chain issues and not every store had everything. Now we are headed into TJ's Thankgiving season. I have no idea if I am going to be cynical Janet or enthusiastic Janet. I guess we will find out. I do like cranberry things. So there is that.

These sound really good. Only 7g fat and 85mg sodium. Healthy chips!

This location of Trader Joe's now allows customers to bring their reusable bags inside the store again. Cashiers will bag your items in your own bags or their TJ's bags. The line outside doesn't ever seem to get as long as it did a few months ago, which is nice. But you still have to wait outside for a crew member to allow you to enter. This store is always clean, neat and well stocked.

One of my favorite go to stores. I love perusing the isles for all the new seasonal finds. The assortment of cheese and crackers are my favorite things to buy here along with different wine choices. I'm always in awe of the sauce isles and sometimes its super hard to decide what new sauces i will bring home to try. I love how everyone that works here is always so helpful and if they don't know the answer they will find you while you shop and update you! Some days they have wine tasting or a new product sample. My son is mostly vegetarian so it makes it easy to find a variety of items he will love. Canned jackfruit is always hard to find at other grocers but TJ's always seems to have it in stock when I'm looking for it. Of course fall to winter they carry all the fall faves and holiday treats. They make it easy for you to grab last minute gifts for a hostess, dinner party or just some stocking stuffers.

These candy bars taste like thin mint girl scout cookies!

A lot of neat things you won't find elsewhere, but small and crowded doesn't make for a great experience.

I just wish this market was more of an actual legit market and less tourist gift shop vibe. On to the details of my visit: I'd been looking forward to a solid local market and this one had been on my radar for a while. Unfortunately this wasn't it. It felt more like a typical Oregon roadside tourist trap with the standard "Made in Oregon" stale chocolates, granola, sweets, etc. The produce sections was relatively tiny and only about half of it looked really good. The frozen meat sections was almost entirely out of red meat, there was a tiny amount of fish and then frozen chicken too. However, the prices are tourist gift shop too. Think $10/lb for asparagus, $18/lb for chicken thighs, $10 for a dozen chicken eggs, $14/lb for ground beef, etc. I eventually just looked through their baked goods and noted the bread was date stamped that it was baked 2 days prior and priced at for a $14 loaf of sourdough. My favorite Portland bakeries all offer freshly baked (as in that same day) sourdough and other loaves for $9-$12. Anyhow, I ended up choosing some local brownies and which looked good but ended up being chalky, dry and clearly several days old. I'd love to see a larger selection of prepared foods to enjoy on the pretty back patio too. They just had a bunch of those pre-packaged sandos & wraps like one finds in an airport. Why not add a little pizza oven and or grill for weekends? Anyhow, there's much potential with such a pretty place like this one but it isnt quite there enough for me to make the 30min drive from Portland again.

Once done wandering thru or shopping, there is the expansive views out back where one can picnic on the grass, sip some beverages or munch on goodies purchased inside. Also available are table & chairs on the side of the market structure that allows for looping back inside or towards the front parking lot. The grounds are nicely manicured with a variety of beautiful specimen plants to be in awe of. Hopefully you'll go with intent to slow down, relax, linger & enjoy this jewel of a place to visit. Found the problem when I opened the bag to make hubby a sandwich. Took it back on Wednesday, June 25, 2026. The female front-end manager was so incredibly rude, they'll be lucky if I ever go back there again. She said, "So you smashed your bread and now you want me to give you another one." I told her, "No, I didn't smash it, it came that way from the factory!" She said in her snarky accusatory voice, with a fake smile on her face, that she would have Never bought a loaf of bread that came smashed like that. Pi**ed me off. I worked in the grocery business for 16 years, I KNOW how to bag my groceries and how to NEVER put your bread under anything that is going to smash it, not to mention in order for it to smash like that loaf, I would have had to balance a sheet of plywood on it or slammed a machete down onto it. And in my defense, the very outside edges were basically undamaged, so the plastic bag that it's packaged in stayed flat so that you couldn't tell that the whole center of the bread was trying to escape out the bottom of the bag. I don't stand there and feel every inch of the loaf before I put it in the cart. I grabbed one that was a row or two behind the others like my mother taught me to do, and placed it in the top of the cart on top of the bananas that also had to be handled with the utmost care to prevent bruising. Not only am I a former professional checker, but at my age I am also an Expert shopper. LOL My bananas do not get bruised. My tomatoes never get juiced. And my bread never gets smashed! This woman has NO business being in charge of anything. If there's one thing I learned and learned well in my years in the industry, is you never accuse the customer of lying or cheating or stealing unless you have concrete proof that you are right. The motto we were required to live by was "The Customer Is Always Right." And while that is not true in real life, (the customer is Not Always right) you never mentioned that until you were hanging out with a coworker in the breakroom where you could not be heard by the public. For a while this Safeway/Albertson's had better produce than the one on TV Hwy, but the last 4 pineapples that I've purchased sit on the counter for one day and immediately start rotting. And yet they're so hard and woody on the inside, that hubby can't even eat them. They have brown rotten spots all up and down the meat inside. This last one had not one stitch of juice in it. Normally they're fairly juicy no matter how ripe they are. This one was dry as a bone. The fish department Always stinks up the place. Safeway's prices are astronomical. Their choices have been whittled down to mostly just their own store brand. Trying to find something Organic or fairly local that's worth eating in the meat department ..... I don't even bother anymore. It might be time to switch back to Fred Meyers again. If the produce is rotten, the fish department is nasty, you can't find half of what you want or need, AND the management is a complete C word ....... location and convenience is all you have left and I'm not sure it's worth it.
