What could be better than having a TJ's down stairs? I go for the pre-chopped produce (a dream come true for a lazy bum like me), sauces and marinades, dried fruit, coffee, and the basic dairy products like milk, eggs, and cheese. I've given up on their prepared meals; frozen entrees are always too watery, and the marinated meat just tastes . . . weird. Oh- except for the pot stickers! The pot stickers are true home cookin' style. Why make your own like Grandma does when you can get some from TJ's? They also have a lovely selection of orchids, which I would buy if my cats didn't eat them. Clerks are always friendly and energetic (love pink shirt guy, although I haven't seen him around lately) and generally move prety quickly; there's one that will actually check your eggs for you before bagging them. I usually forget I'm shopping at a chain grocery store. I would never take my car to the store, or park it at Madison Market, because the parking garage is pure hell to navigate. What can be said about Trader Joe's that already hasn't been said. TJ's is a great place to find all that stuff that you didn't know you needed. Its hard to use TJ's as a all in one grocery store (although some do so) but I find that using it as a adjunct to a store like the Madison Market is a perfect match. As is tradition on most of our travels, we wanted to stop at a Trader Joe's to bring back gifts for family and friends since we don't have a TJ in Hawaii. This Trader Joe's was excellent as we have come to expect. I was hoping to find some smoked salmon in a foil pouch, but there was none to be found. The cashier was really friendly and helpful. I have a love hate relationship with Trader Joes. Most of thier stuff is a great price but almost none of it is local. I just discovered too how high in sodium almost everything there is. Still it is the best place in town to buy whole bean coffee, dry fruit, nuts, yogurt, and booze. Sometimes good: canned items and frozen items (I have had hit or miss experience with both). Stay away from: thier toilet paper (a relatively harsh brand) and thier produce (could they make it more packaging intensive? Prices are higher at the food coop but I find myself going back there more often after the Trader Joes experience. Tip: Traders Joes in the suburbs (think Burien or Lynnwood) are frequently easier experiences. Also parking is a NIGHTMARE around almost every Trader Joes in Seattle and checkout can take some time. read more

I really love TJ's. I've been shopping at this location for about a year. As others have said I the parking lot is horrible, as all of them are except for the Issaquah location. I wish TJ's would figure that out. That's the only reason I took off one star. I take the bus or walk here because I can't deal with the parking lot and it's made it much more pleasant experience for me. I love the selection of food they have and the prices are great. The staff are really nice and quirky and never aloof. They always have little food samples and they never give me the stink eye if I take more than one since I'm a pig. I recommend not driving here and going during off hours, either during the day or after 7 pm and never on the weekends if you're prone to shopping rage. read more

Usually hit the place 4 or 5 times a week. Great to grab that one other thing you need for dinner. Plus, it's where I usually buy my beer. It's not always a cheap trip, but I also buy my "bulk groceries" at larger stores where I can spend a hundred or so and actually have food for a couple of weeks (I can stretch a jar of peanut butter pretty damn far!). The staff is great and they always make me feel like I'm walking into a neighborhood grocery store from the 60s. The clientele are courteous and I could care less about the parking (I walk). I absolutely LOVE Trader Joe's. This place is a lifesaver. My family lives on a very tight budget but we also like high quality, organic food. I discovered Trader Joe's a few months ago and fell in love. They recently made the produce individually displayed, giving me one more thing to love. This place is fantastic. The people are nice, friendly and helpful. They have all kinds of delicious, healthy foods for very low prices. It's the perfect place to go for most things you need: bread, milk, juice, pasta, produce, and millions of delicious Trader Joe's specific goodies. My personal favorites are the frozen molten chocolate lava cakes (amazing!), microwave pasta bowls (just a couple bucks for a delicious, quick meal?), and refrigerated single-serve pizza--just three dollars and six minutes in the oven and you have a delicious margherita pizza for supper. I'll admit the parking lot leaves something to be desired, but even with my trusty 1992 Honda station wagon I'm almost always able to park with little trouble. Just avoid going during "peak" times and you should be absolutely fine. GO HERE. It is fantastic and you won't be disappointed!!! read more

In fact, the moment I walked in, I did not feel welcome like the rest of the customers there shopping. Walking into this Trader Joe's heightens my spirits. It is my favorite store in which to go shopping for my favorite thing. I live really close, so it is also convenient. (The only grocery store closer is Madison Market, which is good for some things but I can't even handle that much pretention at a record shop, much less a grocery store.) I could spend hours in this store browsing the isles of gourmet food for a person on a budget. My first stop when entering Trader Joe's is to hit up the sample booth and grab my mini cup of coffee to drink while shopping. Their frozen food department is fun and full of quality. They have these enchiladas that are only $1.99. The sauce is delicious and the meal is filling. In their cracker department they have bags of these pretzels filled with peanut butter. I have been getting down with those since first grade, my grandma referred to them as "turds" For the dessert section the chocolate covered orange stix are where it's at. The wine and beer selection is big. I miss the two buck chuck, but you can still find wine as low as $3.00. The people who work here are friendly and talkative. It's pretty good! It's like a grocery store, but with more addictive snack foods and less perishables. All of my favorite things seem to get removed from stock, but that's a constant (r.i.p. frozen vegetarian enchiladas, pre-chopped fresh sweet potatoes for oven fries, citrus gumdrops, frozen grilled eggplant parmesan). Trader Joe's, as a grocery store, is pretty good. The prices are low, their store-brand foods are generally healthy and taste good, and they've got a good selection of more "interesting" foods that you can't find in other grocery chains. However, this particular location has a few flaws. First of all, the parking garage is perhaps the greatest architectural nightmare ever. Whoever designed this thing has never owned, been a passenger in, or even seen a car. Second, it seems as if the store employees are oblivious to the fact that the reason the public comes to their store is to purchase the items that they seem to be constantly stocking on the shelves. I can't count how many times an employee has cut in front of me to stock items right where I'm shopping, or refuses to move so I can grab something, or has tried to run me over with a dolly full of items they can't see over/around. Overall, Trader Joe's has some great food for great prices. If no one is standing in the way or running you over, then you can get a few nights of meals for pretty cheap. read more

There are small variations store to store, but most have the same quality stuff at reasonable prices sold by friendly staff. Good suppliers and traning, yada yada. However, store #130 on Capitol Hill is somewhat sloppy (or crafty) around the register. I have been double charged twice now and failed to realize it until I got home. On both instances, I had a slightly longer than normal item list, so the price discrepancy on a percentage basis didn't jump out at me while paying. I can't imagine most people, usually coming off of work analyze their list real-time (though the little display thing is there), so all I can say is look out. read more

If you want to be harassed, go directly to the very tall, hipster looking curly-haired female cashier after you're done buying all of TJ's admittedly delicious and healthy products. I rung up a box of granola bars and accidentally thought that the price may have been different if it was in "bulk." However, it was just an unopened box. When I asked for it to be removed because it was going to be $16, the cashier rang a bell for a customer service person to come over (she didn't even have to fix the transaction herself). When the customer service person was gone, she proceeded to say in the most condescending and bitchy tone I have ever heard, "Um, really? Couldn't you have done the math? I mean, it's really not that hard...just a life lesson for you..." Uhhhhm....EXCUSE ME? A life lesson? Listen, Miss 'Tude, I am not four years old, nor do I deserve to be treated like an idiot when I simply made a mistake at the register. As someone who has worked in service positions, this is completely unacceptable. I literally could not believe my ears! As usual, I gave her the benefit of the doubt (I need to stop doing this) and thought she was joking but she was not. She didn't even take the precious time to say thank you either. Luckily, I was able to retort with a snarky comment and said "Thank you so much for the incredibly friendly service" with a huge smile on my face, only to immediately walk towards the customer service desk. They looked appalled when I explained the situation and went over to talk to her, but I really hope that socially inept/incredibly rude alien girl thing gets fired. I still adore TJ's and stop in like, every other day (to the point where I KNOW some of the employee recognize me, d'oh!) but I HAVE to call out the nasty/cranky manager lady who is sometimes working the floor / customer service kiosk. This woman (who's name I cannot recall, but she's about 5'5" with a longer-ish pixie auburn brown haircut) is terrible! Once I asked her if they carried a particular candy bar and she rolled her eyes saying "uh, yeah, it's over there" pointing with disgust, and another time I stood in front of the kiosk area for at least 2 minutes staring at her while she talked to her friend (on a personal call while working the floor? jeez) about how she was a "city gal" blah de blah. Instead of acknowledging me, another worker had to come in and ask me if I needed help, and this lady continued talking on the phone. When I asked if I could buy a roll of quarters (laundry, and I buy quarters about 2x a month from here) he replied "oh yeah sure!" and then this woman roughly interjected, saying "we're not doing that today." The guy looked apologetic and said sorry and I just shrugged and replied "oh that's fine I'll come back tomorrow." EVERYTHING about this TJ's is generally awesome EXCEPT for this terrible shrew lady. I don't feel good about wishing for someone to get fired but she seriously needs an attitude adjustment. If I see her around I go out of my way to avoid her or will even just come back another day. read more

Hey, guess what! Can you keep a secret? It's another Trader Joe's! Shocking; I know, but you'll find this TJ to be nearly identical to all other TJ. I came here to get some healthy eating supplies to last me a few days and accomplished that goal in spades. Admittedly I'll have to come back every 4-5 days to restock on some of these items either due to the fact I eat them like a billy goat (packaging and all) or to their short shelf-life. But that doesn't bother me because it means I get to play with shopping carts and elevators again . Let's just say I have no problem singing, dancing and acting like a fool (read that as 'myself') in front of my fellow Traders. I snagged some coconut oil, freeze dried mangoes, figs and a whole slew of other goodies to help me eat a little bit healthier. Thankfully they have all sorts of snacks that are more of a healthy alternative to eating a whole shopping cart full of M&Ms doused in hot fudge and sprinkled with mint chips. The one drawback here is that all the desserts, candies and such are displayed directly above the healthy stuff. REALLY?! I thought we were friends! Why you gotta be so cold Charlie Murphy?! Private parking garage makes parking pretty easy unless you come during peak hours... so don't. I'm a fan. read more

Not even the worst Trader Joe's are below 4 stars in my book because I love the chain in and of itself!! This one has a decent amount of stuff for how small it is. I like looking at the bulletin board in the elevator with the different TJ's brands: Trader Jose, Trader Joe's-San, Trader Jacques...who comes up with this stuff?! lol. The parking lot here is way too small but aside from that it has your usual TJ staples like cheese, frozen foods, wine. Nothing extra really here. Just a small neighborhood TJs like Queen Anne. I love how close work is to TJ's, I love how I have willing and awesome work friends who are willing to get a ZIP car and chance their crazy parking garage, and I love picking up stuff during lunch to save me a trip later. The peeps that run the sample area are some of the nicest, friendliest peeps around. What I don't love however is the vibe from a small few of the staff members, I said some. Some of these peeps are rude, cold, or feel too self entitled. That goes for some of the folks that shop here too. Otherwise mostly good experiences with people here. I've gotten bad salad a few times where the salad tasted funky before it's due date. It was just too much hassle to take it back. For the area and location I think its great to have a TJ's but wish it was a bit bigger. read more

the first time i visited TJ's of capitol hill i went with my friend rachael. we were STUNNED by how many gorgeous men there were roaming the aisles! holy mexican mole, we were two of only maybe five women in the entire store. could it have been the summer sun that gave them that 2 week-old cal anderson tan glow? was it the way they gently caressed the bottles of soyaki and organic beer? maybe it was their carefully selected extra firm, um, tofu and large perfectly ripening bananas in their shopping baskets that made me drool. reality check--it's capitol hill. no wonder none of those delicious boys weren't staring back at us. they were all gay. read more

It's appalling how long I lived near this place without shopping there. Appalling. I would like to offer my apologies to my tummy and my wallet. I mistakenly thought it was some specialty shop - well it is certainly special but it also has all your basic necessities. This place has great stuff for great prices - your everyday groceries (shampoo, flour, milk), and the special stuff you want for a special occasion or a party (fancy cheeses, beautifully crafted desserts, fancy olive oil). The "high end" balsalmic vinegar - still only like $3 - is wonderful and makes a great reduction. They have the lowest price on Fage yogurt I've ever found. Meyer Lemons are 4 for $2. You must try the "3 plus Blue" Cheese Pizza. It might change your life. Oh, did I mention the fun and laid back staff? The only reason I'm not making it five stars is they don't have an "express" line, and I've grown frustrated during crowded times when I just have a sack of flour and everyone else is buying the entire frozen section (I don't blame them, the food is wonderful) Do yourself a favor and make this your FIRST stop for grocery and party shopping. read more

Since Trader Joe's are pretty much the same (awesome) everywhere, I don't think there's much I can add to the existing reviews: it's inexpensive, healthy, easy to shop, and carries a wide selection of products. I feel like I won't die of melamine poisoning, or get super fat due to HFCS insidiously snuck into everything, or develop weird deformations or mutations from products with high levels of pesticides and hormones.
