I enjoy shopping at this and most other Trader Joe's! The prices especially on the produce is very good and great selections! I also like to buy the frozen packs of chicken breasts that are only 2.99 lb for the store brand! I also buy the ground beef 80/20 at 3.99 lb, which is a great price! I even get some of their greeting cards which are around $1.00! Customer service is great and everyone is so helpful! Some of the packaged nuts are a great price, as well! In the summer, this is where I can find whole watermelons at a great price and they are usually good! Overall, a great grocery shopping experience and many varieties and assortments of many items to choose from! It's a fun grocery trip! read more

Trader Jose's. Home of 2 Buck Chuck, Buffalo Burgers and hummus smooth enough to spread on the bare chest of Zues himself. Also an excellent place to get quinoa, almond milk andother super foods such as 206 Vodka and Cookie Butter--a revolutionary new spread that's a hybrid between cookie dough and pure butter fat--100% healthy obviously. The workers are hopped up on trader joes cool aide and I think they're convinced they're volunteering for peace corpse and have 0 idea that they work for a national grocery conglomerate driven by profits and shareholders. All good though as long as they keep stocking my brown rice and buffalo burgers--I'm not going to be the one to tell them Santa Clause doesn't exist and I'm sure not gonna tell them they're any less valuable to society than an American Red Cross volunteer, the Navy SEALS or the good hippy dippy folks of the peace corpse off fighting AIDS and teaching villagers on other continents the upside of drinking and defecating at different points along the slip n' slide. Yeah, I am a fan of this store but not a fan of that parking garage. So don't trade your pants to Joe for a parking spot. From research, unlike normal grocery stores, which may carry about 50,000 items, Trader Joe's stocks about 4,000 items, 80% they stock is their own brand names...more focus on environmentally friendly and organic produce. They sell gourmet foods like caviar, organic foods, vegetarian food, unique frozen foods, imported foods, domestic and imported wine & beer. They have the normal stock "alternative" food items, and staples like bread, cereal, eggs, dairy, coffee and produce. I think they stock the best snacks...cookies, candies, and sweet treats. I come here for the organic produces, the specialty cheese, english muffins, organic milk, wine, treats for my daughter, and anything I crave at that moment of weakness. My daughter's favorite treat is the Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Crisps...melted Belgium milk chocolate in the shape of potato chips, a unique tasty sweet treat. The creamy smooth chocolate "chips" is sprinkled with puffed and crispy rice, which added the crisp and crunchy combination texture in every bite. I don't know why they always ring that bell but it is cool I guess. The mini shopping cart is small enough to get around traffic from the aisles but big enough to hold your groceries and an amusement ride for my daughter (see pic). First, you have to park in the parking garage which is SMALL. If you have a big vehicle, good luck lol. Then when you walk up to the elevator, there's a sign that says "If you can, please use the stairs" Well, I was fine with that so I walked over to the stairs. I started to go down and then noticed it was a quite few floors and I don't like being alone in staircases. I lived in Vegas for 15 years and people would hangout in them when they were up to no good. I freaked out and went to open the door and it was locked! I couldn't go back up and to the elevators. Talk about a panic attack. I had no choice to go all the way down the stairs. It takes you out to the street. Not even inside the store. Being freaked out about the situation, I wanted to talk to a manager about the door locking but I decided to let it go and try to shop. Once I was done shopping, I went to the elevator to go back up the to garage. lol. Being new to this city, I have a lot to get use to. Anxiety and all. read more

Although there is a Trader Joe's closer to my hood, I still shop here due to its convenient location near work. I'm still a fan of their chicken curry tenders, frozen naan bread, onion dip and dark chocolate bars. Their cheese selection is of good variety, yet affordable. My favorite portion of the store are their samples. They usually whip up great snacks and meals, which inspire me to prep my food at home regularly. I have such a burning, passionate love affair going on with Trader Joe, I'm not even sure I can write about it. It's NSFW. Okay, so I'm lazy and a terrible cook. I've been making more of an effort of it lately, but as someone who grew up on microwave meals and Chinese leftovers, it's hard going. My best creation, so far, is the 'throw a bunch of stuff in a pan and fry it for a while with some sauce' and that's great and all, but sometimes I can't be arsed to do even that. That's where Trader Joe, and his marvelous frozen meals come in. If you can't/don't have time/don't want to cook, but don't want to consume something that's been processed until it's uncrecognizable and is 85% chemicals, Trader Joe's has just the frozen aisle for you. Their ingredients lists make me happy, and the wide variety of foods, from snacks to meals to party treats, is rather impressive. I also love that they have organic options, as far as produce is concerned, for only dimes more and I adore all of their responsibly-farmed meat choices. I love their tasty, inexpensive, fair trade coffee. I love their samples bar - and I almost always love whatever I try. I love their friendly cashies and knowledgeable service staff. I do not love their labyrinthine parking garage. But I do love the feeling of smug superiority that I get from rolling out of here with bags full of only the best organic, free-range, vegetarian-fed, shade-grown, hipster-bagged foodstuffs. Shopping here is the worst part of my week but the food is so tasty that I can't resist. Not a fan of the crowded parking garage full of overly passive and/or elderly drivers. That parking garage director dude seems to do his best, but it's a tight space and parking can be very very difficult at peak times. But the lady we ran into last week really took the cake as far as weird Trader Joes patrons go. For reasons I can't understand, she brought her big dog, no service dog vest, and two kids under 5 shopping with her during rush hour on Sunday and was letting her dog sniff unopened bags of dog food and hang around the sample counter. I guess none of the employees had the balls to tell her to leave. TJ employees: there's a little thing called health regulations (no big deal, but kind of great if you don't want dog germs all over your food) that don't allow animals besides service animals in businesses that serve or sell food. I love my dog but I'm sure as hell not going to bring him into a grocery store and let him sniff a rack of bagels. read more

Something about shopping at Trader Joe's always got me 'feeling California'.. The plentiful organics of tiny meat and cheese, single dinner servings, the people that work here are so open, helpful and chill. It is like we really are saving the world with our little reusable trader joe's bags! Yay! My TJ Loves: - lil cups of coffee and the other 'free sample of the day'. - the new Frozen Indian Dinner Food is so yummy, like take out- I feel guilty buying it and missing my restaurant.. but can't help myself. - Mediterranean Hummas - Charles Shaw Wine - great in Sangria. - Other reasonable priced cute label wines which are great for gifts. - Simpler Times Beer - great for cheap drink and for boiling Brauts in. - The crackers, cookies, chips and breads. - Peanut Butter cups and molten lava cakes. - Basil plants There are so many more great items here. Your prices are bomb - especially on produce and spices. Now I wanted this 3.50 watermelon so badly I: -carried it home like 8 blocks (Yeah, I picked a big one too). -some guy calls out "nice melon" - oh you mean the one I am carrying on my head? It was just so light as a feather I forgot I was carrying it...awk -get to my door and almost drop it...like literally it slipped out of my hands for a moment and my heart stopped That awk moment when there is a Trader Joe's eight blocks from you and you don't find out for 2.5 months...yep real life. Scarily tight parking, which many people have navigated less successfully than I have thus far managed, as evidenced by all the scrapes along the walls and the completely run over metal pole that was apparently supposed to keep people from driving there... the car won that argument. This is where you will find me WEEKLY purchasing my groceries and what not. I love this place. I enjoy myself all the time coming to this store. They have samples in the back, delicious wine selections, and a section for "new items". I also have to browse all the above. I use to shop only at Safeway and missed coming here, but I have recently moved onto Madison and here I am ONLY hitting up Trader Joes, or sometimes I do both. Oh my forgot someones birthday present. you can get a bunch of flowers for 4.99 plus a .99 cent card. OHHHH myyy the deals go on here. I love this spot. Defiantly my favorite one. Thank god they have their own parking garage being centrally located in Capitol Hill, it's kind of tight, but better than parking far and walking around with heavy groceries. Staff was very nice. Same great selection like any of their other locations. I buy wine for my clients here, try the peach bellini, it's a hit and only for $6 per bottle. Great value and produce is available organic as well as regular. Strawberries always sweet! Great stir fry veg mix with Kale, Brussels sprouts, carrots. Their own brands are likewise good value. Can't beat the wine prices and quality for price. Not to mention the chocolate candy! read more

Yay! Trader Joe's! It's your average happy-Hawaiian themed grocery store selling all your favorite snacks and chocolates, organic blah blah blah, and pre-made meals! But, what makes this one special? - They have their parking garage! Moreover, it is also happy and Hawaiian themed, painted with the classic TJ's red and white hibiscus. (Take care though, since space is still tight) - Emergency exit map by the elevator has the full layout of the store. And how to get out. Sorry TJ's!! I have been such a big fan- just check out my photos. Unfortunately something has gone really wrong, maybe just in this store, or overall quality of this chain. I am strictly taking about their meats. I usually just go for their dry goods and frozen food items. I am obsessed with their coffee, frozen macaroons, chocolate covered bananas, nuts, snacks and cheap wine. Since every grocery store on the Hill seems so overpriced to me I started buying meats here: ground turkey, smoked salmon and small tray of imitation crab sushi. All of the mentioned above gave me really upset stomach! Maybe they were stored incorrectly or were really bad quality, who knows? I am not risking buying any meat here again. I got a refund for all of the items I mentioned and the manager seemed half way concerned and half way doubtful. I appreciate that they did return my money, but would like to avoid this altogether in the future. read more

Amazing, satisfying and great experience anytime of the day. TJs has figured the formula for a perfect size store that carries most groceries. I don't need to walk through long aisles at QFC or Safeway or Whole Foods or Albertsons. And, realize I am in the wrong aisle and start all over again. May be that just me. Or, wait in the long lines or even after using my bags, tell the smart machines that I Do Not Need any bags. It's convenient and practical for me to walk to TJs get what's on my list, perhaps try a coffee sample use Apple Pay and walk out in few minutes. Meats, dairy, produce, pretty much everything is fresh and one can count on it. Often I have seen rotten produce at some other grocery stores and pointed out to the staff. Do the do anything about it? In a small space TJs have great selection of cheeses. Wine selection is pretty good as well. TJs carry the freshest seasonal blooms compared to most places. And if you are price conscious, TJs is the place for better prices on fresh-cut flowers to Orchids and seasonal blooms. TJs Team is extremely efficient, friendly and always eager to help. Here are my thoughts about this Trader Joe's. Everything here is great except for the produce. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased avocados just to cut them open and find them rotten. That goes for 70% of produce...they usually stay fresh no more than 2 days. As for their pastries, they stay fresh no more than 4-5 days. Frozen food here is the BEST. This is why I come, for the frozen veggies, frozen prepped meals, frozen fruits, ice cream...the best. read more

Trader Joe's is a great place to get certain things. While I don't do all my grocery shopping here, because the prices can be a bit high, it's close enough to where I live to make it worth stopping by every so often for a bag of pita bread and hummus or a pack of romaine lettuce hearts (items which are a better bargain). And every so often I'll venture down the aisle of delicious cookies and snacks, knowing that it'll be difficult for me to turn down buying some. The parking garage is a nightmare to navigate, though. I've tried once, and vowed to avoid it at all costs thereafter. However, there's usually some street parking available down 17th. While it's not the most impressive Trader Joe's I've been to, it definitely gets the job done. read more

Is there anyone who doesn't love trader joes? If so please message me, I am curious. My favorite things about trader joes are the flowers and the prepackaged meals. I am not a great cook, and I don't cook often because I don't want to ruin the meal. Having TJs as a healthy option for salads, wraps, soups, anything is great. I always get the chicken cilantro wontons which are so easy to make, delicious, and low calorie. I also like their Chinese chicken salads, hummus, fried rice... The list goes on :) the best thing about trader joes though is that if you don't like anything you can return it, no matter how much you used/ate, no questions asked. They're the best. I love this place! It has become my primary store, partially due to the nearness to my home, but also due to the great selection and fun items you can't find somewhere else. The staff is usually friendly, and the prices are really reasonable for what you get. I am quite impressed with their frozen section. I've had excellent heat and eat meals, both frozen and in the refrigerator section. The only thing stopping me from giving them 5 stars is that many times I have picked up a meat package and it was covered in fluids. This is gross and unsanitary. What makes it worse is that there are no anti-bacterial wipes or even paper towels nearby. They are all in the front for the carts. I will take my chances with the carts more than who knows how old animal fluids, as far as germs go. Install some cleaner in the meat section or figure out a better way to package your meats and it's 5 stars all the way for you, TJs! read more

I really enjoy trader joes, but I really dislike coming here because of the parking situation. Actually it's the only reason I do not frequent this space more. Street parking is not very easy to find so you go to park in the garage. When it's not busy, it's a breeze!! When it is busy you can be sitting in your car waiting to get into or out of a spot for quite some time. We were led into a spot by a parking attendant that was at the bottom of the ramp. So when we went back to our car it was horrible trying to get out. The attendant paid us no attention and kept letting cars go behind us to enter and exit the garage. It became very frustrating to sit and watch people continue to pull out and drive off that just got to their vehicle. I'm kind of being a brat, but time is money. And the money spent on this melty ice cream was wasted just like the 5-10 extra minutes sitting in that garage. 2 stars for service, 1 for selection, minus 2 for the parking garage and crappy attendant. read more

I go sit in a tiny room with floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors and a fireplace and try to shut my brain up for an hour. 4. I hit Trader Joe's at around 9 pm on the arm of a person with whom I spend all of our time together laughing. And stalking hot boys around the store. R: Check out the bewbies on him. D: Go bite his nipples. Check out that badonk. R: I'll give you $50 if you grab the booty. D: Show me your cash liar. R: Whatever whore, you know you want to rub up on it. D: SWEET! They have my chicken. I'm only eating chicken until Mexico. R: I'm only eating banana waffles until 1/20/09. The end of an error. D: Because Bush is a monkey? R: I have no idea what I'm talking about. That would be insulting to primates in general. So the secret is: mid-week, late. No problems parking, all stocked up with the chicken and waffles. I love TJ's -- and make the 1.2 mile walk up the hill to go to this one weekly. As the ever keen Ian M put it recently -- you go to TJ's to purchase inexpensive, convenient, and relatively healthy for you meals. And while you may achieve that goal, you also end up spending more $ on frivolous nibbles and end up spoiling your dinner after dipping gingerbread kitty cookies and strawberries in that tub of cookie butter. Common TJ's items for Kate here: yogurt, milk, cheese of all kinds, broccoli, bibimbap bowls, chicken meatballs, edamame, bacon, beans, granola, cinnamon almonds, charles shaw, and cheapy 6-packs of beer. And hey! Due to that new (crappy) legislation this Trader Joe's has a teensy shelf of alcohol available too. This is also where we go to get all the animal's food -- they wont eat anything else. The Real Change guy who is always outside is also particularly nice and friendly, and always has something swell to say about my dog or the weather. I've had fruit go off here more often than other grocers, which is a bummer. And like all TJ's those handles on their paper bags are janky as hell. Even double bagged i've had torn handles resulting in my groceries tumbling down Madison when I make my walk back home. I try to bring my back-pack and re-usable bags because of this, but sometimes you just forget and have to carry your food back home like a baby -- perched on your hip. read more

The staff here are consistantly nice and they have tried to address the parking issues with a re-work of the lot and a guard/human traffic stop directing. Still, that is the biggest downfall for this particular location. Overall, TJ's is a great deal but it's also a money pit if you're not careful. I say go in with a plan and do your best to stick to it. I'm with Katy, avoid the bread and check the dates on everything perishable, they do tend to turn over quickly. My favorite items can't be beat though: sesame oil (spices/sauces in general are cheap and high quality), real maple syrup, organic milk, low fat cheese sticks (delish!), chocolate truffles for $2.99 a box (WHA?), frozen sweet potato fries, sesame-encrusted cashews and so much more... damn, I need to go there right now! read more

Most of their meals are made for the health conscious, and they taste absolutely amazing. Well... -Sliced sourdough rounds for the price of Wonder Bread at the "regular" grocery store. -Pre-cooked grilled chicken strips that have twice as much at a lower price than QFC. -Imported cheeses for $5 a pound!... or even less! I can't get American cheese at big stores for that price! -Organic produce that mysteriously lasts twice as long as the preservative and pesticide-laden variety from the average grocery establishment. You have single-handedly reintroduced greens into my diet. -Your delicious microwavable pilaf, which makes the perfect quick lunch when mixed with the chicken mentioned above. -Ridiculously addicting mini-cookies in a myriad of makes and models. -$4 imported wines with Giraffes on the bottle. -Wasabi peas, which are healthy and completely addicting. First off, there's a difference between TJ's products and the actual experience of shopping there. The Products: great, cheap, buy 'em. S'all good. And I want to BATHE in their store-brand cherry cider. It is grounds for a temper tantrum of the first magnitude whenever I find their shelves bereft of this magical fluid. The Shopping Experience: So last night I'm at TJs, and - what the hell - I get penned up against the frozen food section by two young ladies who created a barricade around me with their shopping carts. Then - and stranger still - they completely ignored my presence. So I'm thinking what is this? Is this a come-on? A threat? Do they mean to eventually bulldoze me under the TJ-brand Meatless Meatballs and leave me there for future generations to uncover? It was so weird that I just stood there giving them a full view of my back until they parted their carts and let me go. Then as I was checking out, apparently I didn't return the checker's greeting fast enough, an affront that drove him into a silent rage which in turn caused him to manhandle my groceries. So I departed Trader Joe's last night perplexed, my frozen green beans having been bitch-slapped and my bag salad practically punted into mulch, but not without having enjoyed deep, deep discounts on quality food items. read more

Love: close to my apartment, next door to my gym, hella delicious/cheap snacks, nice seasonal variety of plants and produce at the front, good and affordable wine selection, items are kept pretty well stocked by the staff. Hate: the rampant Madison Valley soccer moms who will ram you with their cart to get to the last box of organic quinoa then park their cart in the middle of the aisle so no one else can shop, hella cheap/delicious snacks I shouldn't be eating, a few rude employees (cashiers are usually friendly, but some stock clerks... ), usually some creepy panhandlers who live in the crackhouse a block away are parked outside the door. Overall it's a good store and supplement to the Safeway and Madison Market (oh sorry, the "Co-op") in the neighborhood. read more

I had to weigh in on this Trader Joe's to provide a counter to many of the other reviews. Backstory: I used to live in the U-District so frequented that TJ's, but I moved downtown and this was much closer. Trying to decide shortly after the move whether to try this one or drive much farther back to the U, I consulted Yelp and read all the ominous reviews you just did. It's so small! The parking garage is tiny and scary! The U-District has much better selection! Sufficiently warned, I headed north. Fast forward two weeks and its time for another TJ's run (Soy Creamy Cherry Chocolate Chip, yes please!) and traffic over the I-5 bridge to the north is looking gnarly. Is it time to try this bastard stepchild TJs in east Cap Hill? Reluctantly, off I go. Um, okay, WTF? I don't know who has been reviewing this place, or maybe its just that I'm from LA, but this Trader Joe's is a dream! It is a huge floorplan, clean, spacious, well-stocked, and the parking garage has parking spots for everyone there so really, what else do you need? Plus it has a lot fewer weird-os than the U-District. Pretty much a perfect Trader Joes, and certainly 5-stars to the 2 I would give my home TJ's on South Sepulveda in LaLa Land. So don't be scared! The selection of products is limited, but what they do have to offer is relatively cheap and often healthier than 85% of what the huge selection at the supermarket is offering. The small selection also means that I'm not spending 10 minutes staring at cereal trying to decide which one to buy. It gets me in and out quicker. It's hard to make a good case for the unreliable selection, but I think it has a certain charm to it. Sometimes they run out of regularly stocked items for a week or two. Usually they come back, sometimes they've been discontinued. "Where's that almond butter I always buy?" It's gone. For about 2 weeks. But don't worry, it'll be back. "Why?" Who knows? It's not like the supermarket where you can count on your Multi-Grain Corn Chex being there every single time - it's a bit more of an adventure. The one thing I hate about this Trader Joe's is the parking situation. The turns are incredibly tight, the parking spots are limited, and I always feel like I am about scrape the wall or destroy another car. Fortunately, they often have a (super nice and friendly) guy directing traffic, but it's still a harrowing experience. When I first moved to Seattle and started shopping at TJ's, I missed the cold, fluorescent abundance of Wegman's (East Coast!) or even Safeway. But once I got used to it I fell in love. I would be super bummed if my local TJ's suddenly closed, and QFC could never fill the hole that would be left in my grocery shopping heart. Bonus product recommendations: - Vacuum Fried Banana Chips (silver pouch) Forget those other boring, sugar-filled banana chips. And don't let the word "Fried" scare you. They use coconut oil and NO SUGAR and these things taste amazing. They are heavenly and 100% habit-forming. - Plantain Chips An awesome, much healthier substitute for potato and tortilla chips. They don't have a lot of their own flavor, but they're great for savory snacking or for dipping in salsa or almond butter. I destroy bags of these each week. - Just Mango Dried mango slices. No added sugar, nothing. Like the package says: just mango. And super amazingly delicious. Holy crap, eat these immediately. - Trader Joe's Hummus (original flavor) Without a doubt my favorite hummus ever. The perfect combo of ingredients so that it has a lot of flavor without punching you in the face with it. This is a non-violent hummus. read more
