Slightly off the beaten path, I surmise it is well known to Darien residents. The layout is somewhat unusual -- you enter into the dairy aisle, with produce at the other end of the building. Make sure you try the prepared foods -- the chicken scarpariello meatballs are our favorite item so far. Soups were excellent -- chicken matzo ball, sausage gumbo and carrots ginger all pleased. Pulled pork was savory but could have used some sauce. At Easter they were sampling delicious ham and scalloped potatoes. Fresh meats appeared to be of high quality, I can vouch for the hamburger patties. The fish counter is small and is not attended by a fishmonger. I've only had free samples of the baked goods so far, but they look great. Produce is solid, but as expensive as you would expect from a gourmet market in Darien. Service from the counter folks and check out was uniformly excellent.

Somehow it's the one thing that feels like a bargain while everything else gently reminds you that quality comes at a price. In the end you walk out with great groceries, a lighter wallet, and the comforting feeling that at least you did it with a cup of free coffee in your hand. Honestly, worth it.

Easy to get to right after the highway if you are in route somewhere and not local.

When I tried to address this issue with a manager like I did last year, the cashier rudely dismissed me, claiming it was not her concern and hung up. They overcharge you and then proceed to keep parts of the turkey you brought in, essentially charging other customers for what they have taken from you without consent. Despite receiving an apology and assurance from management last year that this would not happen again, they have repeated the same deceitful practice. It is concerning to think about how many other customers they might be doing this to. Essentially, they are stealing the meat that belongs to their customers after agreeing to cut it. This year, they are charging $7 for a service that cost $4. When you take your meat to their store for cutting, be sure to keep a close eye on them to prevent any of your meat from being taken without your knowledge. SMFH.

Supposedly the founder, Stew Sr., put it up after arguing with a lady over some sour eggnog decades ago until his wife checked him. They have everything--a great bakery (the Apple Cider Donuts are legendary), a massive seafood section with fresh lobster rolls daily, a killer meat department where I usually grab lamb steaks, and a seasonal garden center and "Little Farm" with goats and ducks that the kids love. They even have a food truck outside now. But if I'm being completely real? Half the time I roll up here, I am solely there for one thing: the hot bar. They have the absolute best wings around, specifically the Spicy Italian ones. I will literally drive over just to grab a container of those wings for lunch. Re Stamford CT High Ridge Trader's Joe's store If TJ's Stamford location is representative of the chain, I suspect that TJ's corporate staff is out of touch with their customers and the TJ Group must be losing millions of dollars a year in potential sales across the system because frustrated customers are 1) unable to purchase various items because they are out of stock and or 2) because staple items have been moved yet again to a different location and therefore cannot be found and purchased-Staff don't even know where moved items are located half of the time. It would high time for the President and his corporate staff to visit the stores, talk to customers and find out their like/dislikes about shopping in their stores. They would be much better managers if they worked the floors 3-4 weeks a year to truly understand the business they are in rather than dictating from their ivory tower. 2) What is it with moving things around all the time ? -i want to get an get in and get out ASAP - not wondering around up and down the aisles aimlesly looking for staple items... Message to management "STOP MOVING ITEMS AROUND THE STORE" 3) Why are staff restocking constantly during the day ? Do this at night when the store is closed or or at off peak hours so staff are not in customer's way! 4) What is it with staff walking around with clipboards taking manual inventory on paper when the store is open full of shoppers? How accurate are those records ? How about joining the 21st century and taking inventory electronically and doing it when the store is closed ? That might improve accuracy and resolve #5 below! 5) my #4 may explain why TJ's is like an the former East German supermarkets with empty shelves! Every time i visit TJs there are 3-4 items that are out of stock. I have never experienced missing items at other supermarkets like i have at TJs. Other than the above i love the unique products and the enjoy the local staff who are always friendly and seem to be working hard. My final comment is to Corporate management: The customer experience (and higher sales) could be greatly improved if you did a better job listening and supporting your local store staff. Trader Joe's used to be a favorite among supermarkets, offering affordable food for families. However, this year, it has become a "horrible" place to shop due to extreme price increases. They've capitalized on inflation, drastically raising their prices. Items that were $1.99 eighteen months ago are now $4.97, making it impossible to buy even a single package at a reasonable price. Many products have seen price hikes of 30%, 50%, or even 65%. It's disheartening to see a once-great company succumb to greed. After 34 years as a loyal customer, I'm switching to ACME or any other local supermarket. read more

Lots of different kinds of teas, including good selections of both Ito En and Harney & Sons. And lots of interesting sauces too, plus a good selection of frozen foods (and hotpot ingredients). Overall this place is super well done, excited to have it here in down town Stamford!
