This law firm is a scam. My 80 year old mother was charged with reckless driving and we hired Atty. Rivas. His assistant sent us the forms and filed a notice of representation with the court. She was assured that she did not need to attend the hearing. Then, he never showed up to the hearing, never informed my mother and the judge threw the book at her. His office did not return phone calls or even have the courtesy of explaining why he didn't show up. She lost her driver's license. Horrible experience and despicable person. read more

In my opinion, everything was great UNTIL I sent my payment. When I first contacted this office, the ladies answering the phone were nice and I scheduled a phone appointment with Mr. Rivas. He made me feel very comfortable about his responses to all my questions and I decided to hire him to fight my ticket. I had certain expectations based on the responses I received from the office staff and lawyer. Once payment was sent, the level of communication with the staff became very poor. About 1 out of 5 calls/emails was responded to. And I wasn't able to reach the lawyer at all. Finally he returned my call an hour before my hearing. It was like I was talking to a completely different person than I first talked to when I chose to hire him. Lots of weird responses, making me not understand the process anymore. And the office staff became very rude and unprofessional. I had to actually contact the FL courthouse to get the results of my hearing. I had received a red light running camera ticket and hired Traffic Law Firm to represent me. I have used other law firms in the past and they all have had my tickets dismissed without paying court costs. The Traffic Law Firm did get my ticket dismissed, but I was ordered to pay court costs, which was $191. The total cost for the dismissal and the fee to represent was $281. You are better off paying the $158 ticket that doesn't give you points. I don't know if they think paying court costs as acceptable, but it is not when other firms get your ticket dismissed without paying it. read more

I retained the Firm of Skubiak & Rivas when I was pulled over by a crooked FHP Officer in a rolling ticket scheme where they were giving out tickets for making illegal U-Turns when there was no signage posted that it was illegal. I had the honor and the privilege of being represented by Attorney Rivas - he is an incredible attorney, persistent, through and won a difficult case. I had a picture showing no signage that a U-Turn was illegal and Attorney Rivas presented it to the Judge and when the crooked cop never showed up instead of dismissing it they rescheduled it again. Attorney Rivas attended the second hearing as well - WITH NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE TO ME - again the crooked cop never showed up and this time it was DISMISSED! No Points, No Fine - just dismissed. I was kept informed throughout the entire process and I did not even have to take off work to be present. Forget the chain law groups that treat you as just another random dollar sign, go to Skubiak & Rivas where they get to know you and treat you with respect and fight hard for your case. They are only good if you have a very basic vanilla case. DO not use if there is any type of complication in your case. There is no specific attorney assigned to your case you will be dealing with new one each meeting and than a completely new person shows up at the court and asks to be filled in on all the details. This is careless attitude but does work if all cases are about the same like a basic traffic citations. read more

I had a traffic violation in Orange County as one of a whole bunch of cars pulled over with no discrimination. Everyone that was near a crazy street racer on the highway was pulled over, and I was one of them. The cops wrote tickets before checking any circumstances, clearly a money making sting. The cop told me to challenge it since he could not tear up the ticket, and he would not fight me in court. I called Subiak & Rivas and they took my money and information and never got back to me. I got NOTHING from them, and when I called to be sure they were going to show up in court the next day on my behalf I finally got a chance to talk to someone. I was assured they were on the case so I made it clear that I am fighting it and will take no "deal". Afterwards a couple of weeks pass and I hear nothing until I get a letter in the mail that they negotiated an "adjudication withheld" for me so I can pay the fine and court costs but get nothing posted to my driving record. The was not at all what I ordered my paid legal representation to do (the lawyer works for me, not the other way around). I have a clean driving record and have zero tickets before this in 15 years so my insurance forgives me one moving violation every 3 years as a result. It would have cost me far less to have paid it and took the consequences than to pay for these lawyers and then pay the fine AND pay the court costs. It is clear that the Orange County court system has a collusion with the local lawyers to have them change pleas to allow for adjudication to be withheld. In this way the lawyer, Subiak & Rivas, and the courts all make money off the unsuspecting public, and with this decision it is impossible to get it expunged off the record. They clearly have found a way to prevent people from challenging their decisions, and created a way to bypass judicial process. I am completely certain that Subiak & Rivas is corrupt and participating in an extortion scam in partnership with the court system. The vast majority of their 2013 traffic cases ended up in an adjudication withheld verdict. This is a major red flag. If all you care about is avoiding points on your license and do not care how much money you have to spend to keep the points off your license then you can choose any lawyer. If you want legal representation to listen to you and follow your instructions then stay far away from Subiak & Rivas. read more

Super Job! It had been a few years since I'd had my last speeding ticket. I had used ticket attorneys before with mixed success. When I received a ticket in February, I checked but the last firm I had used was no longer in business. So I started checking reviews and saw many good comments about Skubiak & Rivas. I'm pleased to say the good reviews they have are well-earned. S&R has probably the easiest and most straightforward process I've experienced. The brief consultation by phone went well, and I did not have to worry about this again until the case was closed. In the past I had paid attorneys to keep the points off my record, and in most cases they were able to do so. But quite often I was required to pay heavy courts costs, and/or attend driver improvement classes as a compromise. I'm not sure what their secret is, but I had a full dismissal of my case with no court costs, other fees, or mandated classes. This is the way this is supposed to work.
