Lots of geese poop on the pathways & no bathrooms. Thought i would mention it. Not the greatest park in the area, but good enough for walking purposes.

I typically go to Seamans neck park to run along the 1.5 mile "walk/run fitness trail". Parts of the concrete path are definitely in need of repair, but overall it's a good path. There are lights along the entire path but the majority of them have not been lit when I've gone at night- only the ones right near the turf field have been on. There's two walk-in entrances and one drive in entrance, and large parking lots- one near the playground and one near the fields/dock. There's a nice view of the water that's directly across from Jones Beach. I've seen people fishing here quite often. There are baseball fields and a t-ball field, soccer fields, and a multipurpose turf field that was completed a few years ago but is still in good condition. There's a large playground that's great for a wide age range of kids. There's a rock splash pad area that probably isn't the safest, I had my fair share of scrapes there. Growing up I used to come to the free summer long programs. They offered a huge variety of sports and crafts. It was usually the highlight of my summer.

While the bike path hasn't made blush me often*, it does provide me with a some enjoyment and exhilaration. Similar to Lee M.'s experience, I too have come down bridges and around blind corners and almost hitting other bikers doing the same, and heard the terrifying screeching of tires on a near miss on a marked cross walk. Yeah. Don't worry, the enjoyable part is coming: Provided it's not crowded, this bike path is positively one of the most relaxing a beautiful rides on the island. Sure, places like the path through cedar creek park/Jones beach are like the slightly better looking cousin, however you're exposed to the angry beating sun and the windy shores. On this path, you encounter neither. You're not in full exposure. You're in the trees, in the shade. You hear the birds and see rabbits and squirrels. You have a lake and a creek. They are small hills too, to really work your legs. You just need to watch out for the following things: - Piles of Leaves/Loose dirt around corners - Small children running in front of your bike - Angry men in spandex, shouting, "ON YOUR LEEFT!" - Cars at the crosswalks Otherwise, you're good. This bike path gives you options. The lower portion has a well packed dirt and pavement. It's well marked and the pavement is equally well maintained. You can ride just 8 miles, or up to 20 past Bethpage park. Heck, you can stop in the park and do some of the dirt bike trails if you're feeling adventurous. Go out there and get some miles on your bikes! Just, please remember: ALWAYS STAY TO THE RIGHT OF THE PATH. On a quiet day, you can see fish literally jumping out of the water.. how cool is that?! It seems to be quite the interesting park, with activity randomly converging from all directions. You have folks pulling over for a short respite, bikers emerging out of the nearby trail, the occasional lay fisherman near the bridge and boaters loading or unloading for the day. It's really a special slice of calm along the busy Atlantic Ave.

I recommend bringing water and wearing comfortable shoes. There are plenty of quiet spots to relax. Pro tip: Go earlier in the day or during golden hour for amazing light and fewer crowds. The area is a large well laid out marshland with wooden paths. Unlike many preserves, you will always see wildlife - lots of it. The highlight is an osprey tower. It includes a webcam in nesting season. Lots of benches around, and nature information kiosks are plentiful. A glorious option 20 minutes from my door.

I say that because it 5pm on a gorgeous 80 degree Saturday and there were only a handful of people there! The ones that were there however were definitely taking advantage of all the awesomeness it has it offer. There is a nice little dog park, pier areas for fishing, basketball courts, fields, and even pickle and tennis. I really liked the tennis courts, especially how empty they were! They were so empty in fact that there were two friends using them as a roller rink! I think I'll come back here soon with a bunch of friends and spend the afternoon playing pickleball, fishing and bbqing!
