In 12 weeks, I got noticeably stronger - strength building which I could not do from five years of classes. It's incredible The Egym is the best part. Can do the exercises several times a week to get stronger without much thought. The machine adopted up to you and after certain number of cycles it will do a strength test and adjust your numbers accordingly. You can also set it up depending on your goals, such as muscle building or metabolic or one of the other eight choices. Gerhard is great manager and has brought new and innovative things to the gym. I also like that there's plenty of parking. But close to Westlake so walkable if you live in this area. The hours as recently expanded starting in August, which is amazing. It's something I've asked for for years.

Since I had signed up about a week earlier, I was pretty bummed that I might have just missed out on them. Eliseo and Roberto were both incredibly helpful and took the time to work with me so I could still receive the amenities. They were friendly and understanding, and they made the whole process really easy. I really appreciated how willing they were to help instead of just telling me I had missed the promotion. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi is so spotty, down more often than not, that I can't imagine being able to do any kind of work from the club. This also makes it challenging to use any kind of app which requires Wi-Fi in order to track your progress when you're lifting. The second reason I dropped my star rating was because there are a number of machines, for example the large cable machine in the main workout area, that are missing most of their weight stickers. Unless you are familiar with the weight progression of that specific machine, you are guessing at what weight you are actually lifting. Final issue, the attachments for the cable machine over in the room which has the Astroturf are very worn. A few are missing the rings to even connect and people have tied knots into the strap in order to make it work. These may seem minor but for the price you pay for a membership plus the sign-up fee, I would expect these little things to be easily taken care of.

The House is not a gym, it's a group of coaches and trainers, who teach the correct body position, the reason behind it (helps me remember if I know the why) and how much to lift, based on where I am. The classes are small, it's not a "gym" with tv, lockers and roid heads or dudes trying to look at your butt (not mine). It's a group of folks dedicated to their health, the longevity, the long game is the heart of it. Exercise is not a fad, you do it and then you are done. This is what The House is great at. They are looking for you to learn the reasons you do it, how to pace it, how to develop, track and grow. Concrete example, in March, they had us test 1 perfect rep at the heaviest weight. If I can do a deadlift with 50lbs, that becomes my max. Now when I am working out and the rep 4-6x at 50% of max, I know I am working out with 25lbs. Now I have a goal to increase, and keep building. Education is an important component, not just lifting. As a woman, I never feel uncomfortable in this environment. 3 classes per week = 12x per month at $155? You cannot find a better deal in the Portland area.

I finally had enough, and went on a search for a new facility. I had worked out at Golds years ago and liked them, so I googled and found this place. Wow, what a great facility! They have every machine you could want, and more. The place is spotless, smells good and isn't overly crowded. It's also a new concept Gold's Gym. So it seems very modern and up to date. The staff are really friendly and helpful. And the members seems to respect the quality and cleanliness of the gym. Parking is also easy and plentiful. And its in a nice new business park. Ive spent most of my adult life in gyms, and id say this is probably the best gym Ive ever worked out at.

I debated whether to write this because it happened a few months ago, but the way this situation…read morewas handled genuinely affected me and I feel it's important to share I regularly used the co-ed sauna at this location. When I originally joined, I specifically asked about the sauna because it's located near the men's locker room/bathrooms, and I was told it was co-ed. The only posted rule regarding clothing says to "wear proper sauna attire," with no further explanation. There are also no towels provided by the gym. One day I was using the sauna with a friend while wearing the swimsuit pictured below. We were both sitting on towels and minding our own business. Afterward, we walked the short distance back toward the women's locker room, showered and changed. As we were leaving, the manager Luke asked if he could speak with me privately. He then told me they had received "numerous complaints about what you were wearing in the sauna." I was completely caught off guard. I had worn a bathing suit in the sauna many times before without an issue, so I asked what I was supposed to wear when the posted rule simply says "proper sauna attire." Luke said he had no problem with bathing suits, but then gestured up and down at me and said the swimsuit I was wearing was a little "uhhh..." before trailing off. I found this extremely uncomfortable and felt like I was being sexualized and shamed for my body and what I was wearing, rather than being given a clear dress-code rule to follow. He suggested I wrap myself in a towel, so I asked if the gym provided towels. They do not. During what Luke had asked to be a "private" conversation, another employee, Caitlin, interrupted and said, "Well, we can cancel your membership if you'd like." I was extremely uncomfortable with this response, especially when I was simply trying to understand what the actual rule was. When I returned the following week to calmly ask Luke for clarification, I also told him that if he was going to ask to speak with me "privately," I expected the conversation to actually be private--not at the front desk where other employees could overhear and interrupt. I then asked Luke who had actually complained about me. This time, he clarified that "no one complained per se." Instead, one person had apparently approached him and said, "Did you see that girl in a bikini?" Luke said he wanted to "get ahead of it before it became a problem." This was incredibly upsetting after initially being told there had been "numerous complaints." I had been made to feel like multiple people were upset about me or my body when, according to his later explanation, that wasn't actually what happened. I don't have a problem with a gym having a specific sauna dress code. If the expectation is that people wear something other than a swimsuit, that should be clearly stated and consistently enforced. What I had a problem with was being singled out, having my swimsuit/body addressed in such a vague and uncomfortable way, and being made to feel ashamed when I was following what I understood to be the posted rules. I ultimately stopped going for a period of time because the experience made me feel extremely uncomfortable in a place that had previously been a positive and safe space for me. I later spoke with people at Gold's Gym corporate about what happened, and they were extremely apologetic and told me they agreed that the situation had been handled inappropriately. I genuinely appreciated that response. I'm sharing this because I don't think anyone should be made to feel ashamed or responsible for other people's reactions to their body when they are simply using a shared facility and following the rules as they are posted. If there is a dress code, clearly communicate it rather than sexualizing someone's clothing and making them feel like they are the problem. I enjoyed it here (minus the loud music) and am disappointed that I don't feel comfortable enough to have a membership here at this time. Maybe things will change in the future! They need better management I guess.

Anyway, this location happens to be closer to where I live, so I've been coming out here the past couple of weeks. I love it! It feels/looks a little bigger, and they have a great selection of merchandise, from tanks to cute bags, etc. definitely make sure to pick up some swag. Burncycle has also made some changes with the crew. There are a BUNCH of new instructors! I've only tried a couple of the new peeps, and of course they're awesome. You can also reserve your bike on their website now, which is rad if you have a favorite station and you don't have time to arrive extra early.
