Avoid this place at all costs. I will admit I bought something and thought it was damaged. The staff agreed with me and gave me a discount on the item. In process of setting it up it I thought I could "fix" it. But it was post to look like that. Little did I know about this item and unfortunately the staff person that sold me the item had no clue either. No harm on that front. So I go in to explain what happened and at this point the owner explains to me I'm stupid for not knowing this and there was nothing he was willing to do. Alright thanks for making me feel stupid I'll take my business elsewhere. I'm in the process setting up a N scale setup with dcc an all. So potentially thousands of dollars I will spend elsewhere. The one sad thing here is my son losing out on experiencing a model store like I got to as a kid growing. Oh well there's always Tim in boyertown or the train shows. I go slot car DRIVING/RACING here whenever I get down this way! I enjoy that there are a variety of tracks. an AllTech track(red), and King track(Blue), and a green Oval track. The Green oval track is mostly great for beginners, allowing kids and families to try it using rental cars and controllers. The more experienced racer can use their own cars and controller on the bigger tracks. The track manager is very helpful, slot car racing is a great indoor hobby. I started at age 15, and now in my 60's, still love it! Give it a try, you may like it, make a new friend while trying it! read more

So I took the 1.5 hr one way drive it was well worth it. Awesome place I will definitely be back to do some off road dirt racing this season I can't wait . Very knowledgeable staff friendly helpful something for all ages from beginner to advanced. I made a several hundred $$ purchase ( arrma 6s Mojave) while I was there for the 1st time and they knocked a few bucks off on their own I wasn't expecting that but I'm more that appreciative . This place is absolutely loaded with inventory. They have plenty of cool stuff you won't find elsewhere. Staff can be very unhelpful, and prices are pretty high. I need a place to buy airbrush paints , they have a huge rack but it's never organized and half the paints I buy are dried up and old. They never seem to restock and I rarely leave with the colors I needed. Not really sure how they stay in business. read more

I model trains with my sons. Well one of them saw the three slot car tracks and fell in love. Santa is bringing him a car for Christmas. I have found the staff to be pleasant to everyone, but get caught up in general conversations that it sometimes it takes forever to get help. The young guys running the RC/ car dept are great, friendly, etc. while the train guys seem bothered if you ask a question. Counter area is WAY to small to have repairs done, look at merch and pay... If you want a hobby shop that has most things, but not everything, then take a look. Just be aware that your shocks on your car may need a tuneup pulling into that pit called a parking lot and if you are allergic to dust bring a mask. A great place if you are looking for that hard to find hobby part or accessory. I can't say much for the staff because they are rude and behave as though you are bothering them. This attitude has been prevalent for years and the only time I go in there is if I REALLY need something that I can't find anywhere else. I can't say enough good things about this place. The employees and management are incredibly knowledgeable and eager to help you find exactly what you are looking for. While the store itself is a bit messy you find pretty quickly that it only adds to the charm of the place. This is an old school hobby shop with a massive selection of just about everything and it's filled with people who are passionate about their respective interests. If you are into RC vehicles, there is both an outdoor and indoor track on site that you can access for only $5, and that's for the whole day. If you patronize your local mom & pop shops for the tactile experience and knowledgeable customer service then this is absolutely the place for you. Been a customer for over 25 years. They are the go-to people if you run trains. Store is dingy and not quite spic and span, but who cares when they have what you need, their people know their stuff, and 90% of the time can help you or steer you toward help. The hobby store is the biggest store I've ever been in. The reason I came to this store is because I needed a part for my koford slot car controller. I called before I drove 1.5 hours to there store and they had it. When I got there I explored. They have an outdoor rc on road race track, an indoor rc track, batting cages, and three slot car tracks. I tried out the two larger tracks and I was very disappointed. I run group 27 wing slot cars that are very fast and light. Because the track is not well maintained there are sections by the corners where the braid is raised on the track, which makes the car jump out of the slot. I'm sure if you run the heavier slower cars they don't jump off the track, but I'm not into going slow. I would go back for parts, or service, but I would not go back to race my cars on the track. read more

I originally went in for Lionel trains and they have a large selection. However after seeing they have indoor slot car racing which I have not seem since I was very young, my daughter and I purchased jk slot cars and controllers there and go often to race. My car broke a few times. Craig sold me a part for one dollar and spent 1/2 hour maybe longer installing it for me. I would recommend this place and I try to purchase there to support the business. read more

Went on 1/2/17 for the first time. Read previous reviews about bad staff and dirty conditions. Did not find either to be true. Train staff asked if I needed help and I got help when I needed it. Lots of stuff in the store. As others have said pricing is high - probably full retail. I looked at N scale. They have a very extensive amount of rolling stock and engines, including some steam. They do not stock Micro-Trains, but had many other manufacturers. I saw quite a few Deluxe Innovations 1944 type box cars which seem to be OOS at DI and most online stores. Selection of building kits was a bit more limited. Lots of Cornerstone kits, but very few DPM kits or modulars. Some Atlas, Lifelike, Model Power, a little Pikestuff, and a few others. Lots of the Woodland Scenics built-ups. Not too much available for the detailer or scratch builder. Had Kato and Atlas track, a little Pico, too. Motive power was from Altas, Kato, Broadway Limited, Athearn, Bachmann, Fox Valley. More N scale than you are likely to see in most places. Overall a pleasant experience. Surprised at how many people were in the store. read more

My wife and I stopped in to have the train specialist take a look at my 1950"s Lionel locomotive that wasn't running right. Not only did they take the time to explain everything, they recommended how I could take care of it myself at home to prevent problems. I left it there on a Sunday and they rebuilt the entire motor and electrical components, cleaned it and even replaced a tiny green " jewel " that was originally on the front of the locomotive!! They had it ready by Wednesday!! Terrific store, terrific workers, don't mind the dust, it adds character!! I have already recommended them to my friends who want to start an old-time tradition for their own families!! read more

I spent a great deal of time in the slot car and R/C areas of this store when I was growing up. I like supporting the local hobby shops and the memories were enough to make me take the now much longer drive back there now that I have a son and we're getting into model railroading. If you know exactly what you want, don't want to wait for shipping, don't mind paying extra for it, don't have a dust allergy, and don't need to interact with a salesperson, this is the place for you! I was browsing for a while waiting for the two train department employees to finish a conversation they were having. I finally had to interrupt them since I needed assistance with products that were in a locked case. I made it clear that I was there to spend a decent amount of money. It was 15 minutes until closing time, but that should have been more than enough time to make a purchase. The last question I asked about the locomotive I'd picked out stumped the gentleman. To answer that, he'd have to "go in the back" and he clearly didn't want to do so. They'd already turned the lights off in that section, so I apologized for interrupting his conversation, put back all of the track I'd been carrying around, and headed for the door. The man working the register asked how it was going and didn't seem to care when I told him they weren't interested in helping me with my purchase. After seeing some of these reviews, I'm guessing my answer didn't surprise him. Probably won't be going back unless I don't want to wait for shipping or it's to window shop for an online purchase. read more

Huge selection of trains and parts, CF rods, random hobby stuff... some helicopters(not very many to chose from) and the store itself is gigantic. However, the service is just okay... not much service to talk about... and I couldn't find what I wanted: spare parts for the blade mcpx. Atmosphere is quite bad and you feel like you're trampling across a junkyard. Prices are a bit high, but they make up for it in the size of their store. Location is a bit deserted... it is PA afterall. I'd say unless you need something immediately, order it online. read more

Wow. I've only ever been here one time before yesterday, about two years ago. I decided to go yesterday on a very rare day off for me and pick up a battery for my R/C car. A battery, by the way, I could've easily ordered online for probably cheaper, but I wanted it then and that was it, so I went. I sorta forgot my first impression of the place last time, so as im walked in, I was immediately taken back by the overall mustiness and age of the place. Walking down some of the aisles, the merchandise was literally covered in dust. My impression of the place was that it peaked in the late 80's, and has never been restocked or renovated since. I'm into the 4wd R/C trucks, and the newest model they had was already almost 3 years old. The staff was friendly enough, but the one person who was talking to me really treated me like I had no idea what I was doing. The other guy behind the counter was knowledgable and pretty friendly. So basically, I got my battery and left. I honestly feel like they should take every piece of merchandise out of the store, completely deep clean the entire building, and then restock with brand new stuff. Considering that I highly doubt they'll do this, I'll stick to ordering online from now on. read more

I have been patronizing this store for almost 20 years. I have been into and purchased trains, slot cars, rc cars, and models. They have a lot of stock and can get almost anything. The staff at times is very helpful and other times seem bothered that you are interrupting their social time. Owner started out as a farmer and runs his business like one. Stock and general inventory in store is a mess. It seems that suppliers dump their unwanted inventory on owner at a good deal to get rid of it. Yes, the store gets popular items, but seems to stock 50 out of date, over priced, or unwanted items for every 1 wanted item. You will not find a break on pricing, unless you find a dusty, old stock item that was priced 5 years ago and tag was never changed. Expect to pay full retail. They are pretty much the only game in town for parts / items they sell. However, the only reason they are in business and haven't been beaten by the internet is the chance to use items you purchase. It is a shame because they have the space, the tracks, and the inventory. If they would focus on customer service, clean the place up, and advertise/organize special track days, they could probably become a thriving business instead of barely hanging on! Go to the internet for parts and stop by this store to use the RC or Slot car tracks. Don't expect a great deal or consistently friendly service. read more

Spent $ 160.00 on a model airplane for my grandson. The hobby shop is fine and has a good inventory, however, the staff was not helpful in any way and were extremely unfriendly to us. I have three grandsons who are all interested in trains and model airplanes, but from now on I will do all of my shopping on line. read more
