A very cute little cafe that was tucked away on a side street near our hotel. We needed a quick, light lunch one afternoon and this place ended up fitting the bill perfectly. There were a number of luncheon options available including several types of quiche, lasagna, salads, and rice bowls. I opted for a mushroom quiche which was served with a plentiful salad of quinoa, tomatoes and herbs. Sweetie got the lasagna and it was quite nice - and a very ample serving. I saw notes that the chocolate tart was not to be missed here, and they were certainly right! So rich and dense and delicious with some whipped cream and fresh strawberries. I recommended it to some people traveling in our group and a few days later they were singing the praises of that chocolate tart as well. All in all a very homey and pleasant place to grab an unpretentious bite in Amsterdam. One the first places I fell in love during my visits to Amsterdam. Nice dutch family business, they don't talk that much but they know their food. You can eat lots of delicious healthy meals, drink very good smoothies and most important of all: toetjes I ALWAYS take the chocolate tart. But they have great tiramisu, carrot cake, red velvet cake...variety of reasons to get fat. Also, if u ask to go to the toilet, which is on the first floor you will discover a good kept secret: tea pots collections. A full room with tea pots, teas and old feel. read more

This is a fantastic little cafe with fresh baked quiches and cakes along with good coffee. My particular favorite is the cheesecake, the best I ever had, and I know many devotees of the chocolate cake. Highly recommended. read more

Cafe Chef! Is one of those quaint places which you discover when walking along the tiny streets of Amsterdam. One quick glimpse through the window is enough to make you drop whatever you're doing and go in inside to drool over the quiches and soups on display. Probably the most attractive thing about this cafe is the interior: there is nothing commercial about it. In fact, when sitting inside, I always get carried away and I forget that I'm in the heart of busy Amsterdam. Instead, I feel like I'm sitting at home, enjoying a nice and warm meal that someone made for me with love and affection. The food is above all healthy: none of the products used are harmful in any way. At all times, the meals are fresh, warm and delicious. The cafe also serves smoothies and fresh juices. Turned down this street randomnly to escape the crowds on Queensday and when I walked by this window I could not be torn away. I drooled at the sight of decadent chocolate cakes, cherry pies, quiche and cheesecake. I was able to resist upon first pass but later in the day, it was all I could think about. That led us to stumble back to see if it was good as it looked. Four of us tried out a variety of things. The goat cheese, leek and spinach quiche may have been the best I have every had. For dessert, the cheesecake hit the spot and surprised me with how authentic the flavor was. Unlike any that I have had in Europe to date! The staff was friendly, prices very reasonable, and the cafe had plenty of cute seating to enjoy the snack. If I lived in Amsterdam, this would undoubtedly be a place I would return to time and time again. read more

This quaint little restaurant on a narrow Amsterdam street has a beautiful mural on the wall inside. by intimate seating - both of which are merely icing on the cake, for the true beauty is in the tasting! Passers by who look only at the menu, miss the dazzling array of fresh, healthy smoothies, decadent coffee (superb ice coffee, and get it with chocolate or ice cream!), savory dishes of quiche, stews, sandwiches and more, and do not forget the desserts! This is not typical cafe or restaurant food - it is two steps above, and the fact it is a labour of love for the family that makes these dishes only increases my affection for the food. read more

The best chocolate tart in ALL of the Netherlands! Whenever I am in Amsterdam, I stop by this wonderful little shop on a very quaint alley off of the Singel Canal. They take great care in all the food they produce, but my favorite sweet is the chocolate tart, in fact, I always order 2 full ones and take in on the airplane to my kids in another country and it stays fresh for a few days. This reasonably priced cafe is a must do when in the center of Amsterdam for a quick lunch or a coffee and a sweet! read more

Walked by and was captivated by the desserts in the window. The food looked good too but we were looking for a place to eat outside in the sun. Came back here for dessert..got the red velvet cake, tiramisu pie and chocolate tart. They were all good. They also had a passion fruit tart I want to try next time. There was no seating downstairs so they told us we could eat upstairs. Upstairs is this quaint (and cluttered) tea room. I felt like I was in someone's grandmother's living room. There are teapots everywhere..and nd they dubbed the room the teapot museum (I don't think it's an official title). There was a bigger table that could fit 6-8, and a small sitting area. I think this area is only open by reservation, or when it is packed downstairs. It was a fun and cozy place to relax in. Also the desserts were good. You can order a whole cake for pickup.
