Dealing with this school has been one of the worst customer experiences in my life. Ever. Period. I took a class that was run by a rushed instructor at Queens Community College, named JP, in the month of September. He split his time between instructing us (yelling really) and his instructors-in-training (again yelling.) The class ended up running very late due to a delayed start by the instructor (he was spending his time arguing with a student) and another class was waiting to begin toward the middle of our instruction. I, being the slowest learner in the group, ended up being cut around the time that the new class showed up. I didn't have an issue with this in itself, but it's ridiculous for a first-time motorcycle user (what this class is supposed to be geared toward) to lose out on a lesson he paid for due to a class running late. I was even asked by JP whether I had ever ridden a motorcycle or used a manual transmission during my training (not something I was required to do.) After that I spoke to the manager about my issue and he assured me that I wouldn't have to worry given my experience and that I had a year to re-take another class. The manager was very nice and understanding about my situation, but I haven't heard from him again since that call. Instead, I've been dealing with the absolutely awful office staff. Why do I say awful? For the following: I've been calling them since September about re-taking a class and they told me not to worry because they'd get back to me when an opening came up. I trusted them on that and they never took time to reach out to me. I was worried on whether they had forgotten about me so I would try to call once a month and would be reassured on whether they had an opening. Come January I called again and had to go through the whole process of reminding them of who I am and my interest in retaking the course. The speaker, who seemed confused in her explanations, immediately recited their policy about how I should've taken another class within the 2015 timeframe ( three months) and that I would not be getting another chance or my money back (I just wanted another chance.) The office made no attempt to understand my issue, but was really quick to point out that was done is done and I'm the loser in this situation. This just makes no sense to me. A policy in which you can only re-take a class within a calendar year would mean anyone taking a class in December has no chance of getting their money back if they fail while someone in January has a huge amount of days. How can you even justify paying the same amount for a class in those two time periods if there are such different benefits connected? In addition, my calls would always be answered with a "we'll get back to you at such and such date" and then I'd rarely receive said call. This leads me to believe that there just wasn't an attempt by Trama's to ever get me another class; especially since the original class I took wasn't even full. Overall, I HATE HATE HATE dealing with this place. It has the WORST customer service I've ever dealt with in my LIFE. I'm just about give up and eat what I paid just so I don't have to get the run-around from them again. The office is slow to call you back, but quick to make you know they aren't paying you back. If you want to actually learn how to ride a motorcycle; save yourself some time and avoid Trama. ****** After talking to them some more to fix my situation; they started lying by saying I was given multiple chances to retake and refused. I get this is a huge review and all, but I can't emphasize enough how bad this experience has been for me. read more

I took the Basic Rider Course with Eric, who now runs the school, and it was a great experience. The in-class time is spent more as a group discussion as opposed to a didactic session--it helps keep everyone awake who has driven in at 8AM. Everything is straightforward. For the practical course, it was one of the hottest weeks this past summer; imagine having to wear long sleeves, jeans, boots, gloves, and a helmet in 90F weather! Eric and rider coach JP made sure to keep everyone hydrated with frequent breaks and supplied water. Riding a motorcycle is a lot easier than I thought but it still took a lot of practice for the manoeuvres on which we were tested. Both Eric and JP don't mind spending extra time with students that need a little more help before the course or during breaks, which is really useful. They are really attentive to making sure nobody gets injured and try to do their best to teach you as best as they can so that you pass; if you don't pass the first time, you are welcome to come back for a retest. read more

They stress the importance of safety and basic riders skills. It's a lot of knowledge squeezed into a quick weekend, but they really want you to ride properly and safely. If you fail, then it's for your own good and safety. They don't owe you a pass just because you paid so much. You need to practice, be serious, be on time (like anything in your life), and be safe. This place is legitimate and they care about you learning the skills and being a good rider. read more

Agree with Emily R. on the respect part 100%. Lets go on to my frustrating experience... I will NEVER recommend anyone to this school. On the range "JP" talks to u like ur stupid.. god forbid u dont hear him say something (ex. "Keys off") a.k.a. turn the key off, he makes u look like a jackass in front of everyone and makes a motion turning his hand and shouts "KEEEYYY OFFFF" talking to u like as if ur a 2 year old... i felt like smacking the helmet off his head but they u got by the balls because u have to kiss their ass because theyve got the certificate for u to bring to the dmv to get ur license. In the classroom Marty the instructor wasnt a bad guy he was just too sarcastic and u dont know if hes kidding or not, on the range he was pretty cool though. William (Bill) is a great guy all around and very helpful in both classroom and range. Now lets go on to what i experienced on the range.. first day went fine, ended later than 4:30 which doesnt make sense to me. The second day on the other hand, well lets see they told us in the class to meet at the range at 10:30 we get there n theres another class "finishing up".. 2 HOURS LATER THEY CALL US FROM OUR CARS... it is now past 12:30 and the schedule says the class ends at 4:30. We start the final evaluation around 5. We got up to the second step of the evaluation (now 5:30) and they claim it is too dark and we have to come back another day and WE have to call the office to see what date it is going to be held. So not only did they make us wait 2 hours but now we have to come back another day and myself being located in mid-suffolk wouldve really wanted some sort of partial-refund because i traveled 40-50 minutes to get to massapequa/nassau coliseum to not only be told to come back another day but also be held there AFTER 4:30 which is the time the range class should end. SO DONT MAKE ANY PLANS FOR CLOSE TO 4:30 BECAUSE CHANCES R THE CLASS IS GOING TO GO ON LATER THAN 4:30. Next day i call Tramas office and they tell me im going to have to travel even further and go to QUEENSBORO COLLEGE to do the make-up class. I arrive at the make-up day and they always tell u dont be late so i got there 30min early, i see people on the range with the bikes (the same people from my previous classes) thinking they got there early and the instructor is letting them warm up. I hang out in my car for a bit then i walk over to the instructor he gives me the same papers i filled out the first day in the classroom and tells he'll call me from my car when their done. AGAIN i wait an HOUR to start my make-up evaluation... the evaluation started and i quickly told bill that didnt need to warm up or anything, showing him i wanted to get the show on the road and get out of there. Evaulation went quick and i passed. IMO the office people at Trama's needs to get way more organized. Cant blame the instructors really for the delays, but "JP" on the other hand, needs the lighten the f**k up. read more

Took the motorcycle class there about 4 years ago and felt that they did a solid job with me and the rest of the class. Only about half the participants made it all the way through, and got their motorcycle license. As long as you pay attention in the class, you should have no problem passing the written test. The actual driving portion was difficult, so don't underestimate it. It was early Spring and freezing cold. The untold secret is that many of the participants already know how to ride a bit, so it is not all new to them. The novices struggled with shifting, balance, etc. I'd recommend trying out a friends scooter for some hours to prepare yourself, or something similar to that. Also knowing how to use a clutch beforehand is helpful. Good luck. read more
