After a serious ski accident the week before that left me unconscious and required a ride down the mountain with Ski Patrol, an ambulance ride, and a visit to the ER, I saw Dr. Tuan A. Tran for follow-up care. Fortunately, I was very lucky and only required 15 stitches for a laceration under my eye. Dr. Tran and his staff were outstanding. The office was professional, efficient, and very welcoming. Dr. Tran's assistant carefully removed my stitches and Dr. Tran provided clear guidance on proper wound care and how to minimize scarring. Dr. Tran clearly cares about his patients and took the time to make sure I understood how to heal properly and minimize scarring. BE VERY CAREFUL before choosing Dr. Tuan Tran for any cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure. I am sharing my experience so other patients can be cautious, ask detailed questions, get independent second opinions, document everything, and understand their legal rights before waiting too long. In 2022, I was referred by First OC Dermatology (Dr Nguyen) to Dr. Tuan Tran for plastic surgery on my shoulder to remove a small mole. The procedure was very expensive, and unfortunately, I had a very poor outcome. I was left with a visible scar on my shoulder that has not improved the way I was told it would. What concerns me most is that after the procedure, my concerns were repeatedly minimized. I was told that the scar would improve or disappear after one year, even though the result was visibly poor. I was encouraged to wait, but I later learned that California has one year strict time limits for filing certain medical malpractice claims. We initially met Dr, Tuan Tran through my wife who had met him through a YouTube influencer by the name of Sean Le over a month ago. We decided to come up from Solana Beach to see him for an initial consult on a mid face/neck lift after interviewing numerous other plastic and aesthetic surgeons all the way from San Diego up to Newport Beach in Irvine and Huntington Beach. I decided to have him do the procedure based on his fees, Medical education/credentials and experience. Totally fantastic results as you can see from the before photos and I'm now on day 7 of recovery. I had a pretty big keloid that I wanted to get removed and was referred to Dr. Tran. From the consultation and first meeting all the way through to my surgery, my experience and care has been phenomenal. The staff are all super kind and knowledgeable. They've been super on top of scheduling (having taken care of my post-op appointment, easily moved around my other appointments, and just general scheduling has been such a breeze!) and are really warm and helpful. I've called to ask questions and I appreciate that if they aren't certain (like a question I had about my post-op care), they put me in touch with a nurse or waited for the doctor to be free to ask and let me know. They also communicated with another office (radiology) to make sure I had my treatment scheduled for right after my surgery. I didn't even have to schedule the other appointment, they just communicated with Dr. Tran's office and it was such a smooth transition after my surgery. Even before my surgery, Dr. Tran's office called me a little over a week before my surgery to make sure I had a blood test scheduled (I already did, but I can imagine how much this can help with other patients who might've forgotten only to find out when it's too late). Dr. Tran himself is also incredible. He's incredibly knowledgeable, knows exactly what he's doing, and explains as much or as little as you want to know. He was to the point, very helpful, and answered all my questions patiently. The doctor was upfront about how keloids can grow back and how I need to be careful and take care of everything post-operation. When I was at the medical center for my surgery, everyone also referred to him as the doctor who's always there on the dot. He's efficient, good at what he does, and a great doctor. I also really appreciated that after my surgery, he explained to my mom that all had gone well - she was not his patient and he didn't have to, but he still did. If I could give zero stars, I would. Back in February of this year, my insurance attempted to send me to Dr. Tran for FTM top surgery. My initial reservation was because of the sheer lack of experience Dr. Tran has with FTM gender affirming care. But I had no choice, as I was in the middle of a legal battle with my insurance, so I went into Dr. Tran's office for a consultation. It went as follows: I went in for my appointment and was seen quickly by a member of his medical team, though not by Dr. Tran himself. My chest was inspected, and I asked some questions about Dr. Tran's experience, how HE performs the FTM top surgery procedure, standard stuff. I discovered that he does not do extra liposuction on the breast tissue under plus-sized/big breasted patients' armpits, meaning that large portions of breast tissue are left after surgery. I also discovered, in my own research at home, that the majority of Dr. Tran's work on trans people are on MTF patients for things like implants, feminization, body sculpting. Good for those women. Not for men. I've saved the actual bad experience for last though! So, I went in and I asked if they had BMI limits. I look a bit lighter than I actually am, so I knew BMI could come into play. BMI itself is at most often unhelpful and at worst it is pseudoscience. Weight and health are in a nuanced relationship with each other, and you cannot accurately estimate someone's health via their BMI. It's also not proven that BMI affects top surgery specifically, with many gender affirming care specialists going so far as to say it's entirely disproven. It may affect how the body functions under general anesthesia, but truly, we're all adults here. Informed consent exists. Lo and behold, they do have a BMI limit. It's a blanket limit on all surgeries, of, and forgive my memory this was February, either 30 or 35. I told the woman seeing me that I am healthy. I work out at my job, I eat well, I enjoy being active. She told me to lose weight. I then relayed to her that I have a history of eating disorders, specifically atypical anorexia, and that I'm currently in an 8 year difficult recovery. Therefore, it would be unsafe for me to go to the extreme lengths required for me to lose weight, seeing as I'm already a healthy person. She told me, and I remember this to this day because it triggered a relapse in anorexic behavior: "You could get your doctor to prescribe you ozempic? Or- I don't think they can anymore." I had to end the consultation by being refused service by Dr. Tran's team, after never even speaking to Dr. Tran. I was sent home with an after-visit summary for my lawyer for the ongoing court case. In the summary, I was repeatedly referred to with she/her pronouns, despite it being recorded that I was there for FTM top surgery. There was also a short list of supposed physical attributes that I had that could be "worked on"- Likely a way to shame patients into receiving plastic surgery they don't need. This list has also since resulted in further body dysmorphia. I've been fighting myself out of disordered eating all year now. TLDR; Dr. Tran himself didn't see me for my consultation for FTM top surgery. He barely has experience in such surgeries. One of his medical assistants told me to get on ozempic because I was too fat for top surgery. I was misgendered and my looks were criticized in my after-visit summary. I've been wanting to write this review for some time; it's long overdue, but I'm glad I finally got around to share my experience. I had a bump on my right hand, about an inch in diameter, for over 20 years. It rarely caused issues, but I had to be cautious with it since it seemed to rest on top of some blood vessels. Occasionally, it would become painful; either from accidental impact or when the blood vessels swelled unexpectedly. I consulted several doctors over the years, and most advised leaving it alone. My hand has since returned to normal, with only a faint scar remaining. To preface, Dr. Tran is an exceptional doctor. His work on my partner's top surgery went beyond expectations. However, I was very much disappointed with his staff with the misinformation that was given to me when trying to schedule a consultation for a FtM bottom surgery. On the phone, I had asked clearly to someone from his office whether Dr. Tran was able to perform FtM surgery. I had made it perfectly clear that my partner is biologically female and wants to transition to being a male. They confirmed with me on the phone that this could be done and that I just needed authorization from my insurance or my PCP to get the consultation. Fast forward a few weeks later, I come in with an appointment and ended up waiting over an hour and thirty minutes just to have the doctor himself tell me that he DOESN'T do that kind of surgery. To be fair, he has been professional with us on it and did provide some information to help us move forward from here on who to talk to and where to go next, so I am grateful for his recommendations. But the fact remains that the overall customer service from his staff left me frustrated, and it was just something that could have been cleared up over the phone instead of going through the hoops for next to nothing. read more

Lies to the point I think he clearly has a disorder. Then lies some more. Lied about his experience as a surgeon. Future faked with me on a poster for ab lipo that was NOT his work. "I can make you look like that." Gaslit me on the sloppy, uneven work that even his own staff would not participate in lying to me about, even though he encouraged his staff to do so. His own staff said: "Don't get surgery from Dr. Tran." Ears uneven and not attached to the same strength/degree. Massively gaslit me on that. (Staffer refused to join him in the gaslighting as he encouraged her to do.) Neck lipo AWAKE AND TRAUMATIZING and uneven. Even told him he didn't get the left side all the way. "Yes I did," he shouted. I had to have the left neck blob later sucked out by another. Hoo hoo - massive f ups, yep, you guessed it: uneven, and neglect there. I could see he was physically repulsed at the check-up and told me to schedule with a gyno due to blister-like infection. I, of course, could not get an immediate appt and had holes bored in me like Swiss cheese on the left. Breasts bottomed out immediately. Excessive J hook scarring to breasts. "Why was a J hook done?" more than one surgeon had asked me. Because it's Tran, and he doesn't know what the f he is doing! Traumatized the hell out of me: left me in the surgical room after surgery with no one in it. It triggered massive PTSD. Such a bizarre, hollowing, lonely, and unnecessary experience. It's like he dropped the mic and just walked out. He was mad because he had done uneven work while I was fully awake, and I called him out on it. And he did what he does: he lied about it and ran out. (But all the staff did too. It was just me in a surgery room. Like a horror show. It really freaked me out.) Sloppy, NO SKILL work. Everything... I mean everything... had to be redone. Misogynistic to the point he allowed me to have advanced complications in my nether region. His lip recoiled in disgust as he had to look at the hoo hoo of a woman over 30. Wanted his staff to remove stitches. She refused in one area and scarred me for life in another with her inexperience. I also became infected. I did not see the surgical equipment come out of a package. I question if they truly sterilize their patient room equipment. I had to find proper medical codes. He engaged in patient abandonment and Fountain Valley Hospital, now UCI; ER staff told me to file a medical board complaint against Tran. He lied and said there would be staff to help me at his practice in FV as he left the country without notice. I said: Who, specifically? Because I was catching on to how much Tran lies. He rattled off names fast. I wrote some down. He was annoyed. I tried to get his practice drs to see me as he stated they would be available, that SEVERAL of them would be available. But I was told repeatedly no one would see me as Tran engaged in patient abandoment and was in another country withou adequate prior notice to me. If I had known he was going to flee I wouldn't have had surgery with him. So he had definitely lied. Tran fabricated to ER staff at FV Hospital name of "doctor" for me to see me at no charge because the head staff called Tran and said, "What are you doing?".... and called him out on the phone on his patient abandonment. Tran had ER staff give me name of dr to see immediately === at no cost === outside of the ER that same day...I was told. It was yet another ball of lies from Tuan. I called outside in the ER parking lot. This "dr" likely wasn't a dr. He was not PCP or MD or gyno. He barely knew Tran, "Oh, yeah... Tuan Tran. Why did he give you my number?" and wanted $100 bucks to see my hoo hoo Tran had botched badly. It felt so violating. I passed. Again, Tran lies. He lied to me: r-e-p-e-a-t-e-d-l-y!!! He lied to ER staff at FV Hospital / now UCI, who became openly irate with his many lies. Yes, YOU. I'm talking about YOU, Tran. You like to pretend in your bad reviews that the reviews have the wrong Tran. Wrote on me unnecessarily prior to surgery because he saw me to have no human value. I told him I'm not to be graffitied and to get paper. He changes biz names to shake off old negative reviews! RESPONSE TO OWNER: Yep! I called it. I deeply regret choosing Dr. TUAN TRAN for my breast reconstruction at the same time as my single mastectomy, would not recommend it to anyone seeking compassionate, competent, moral/ethical medical care. The entire experience has been a distressing disappointment, terrible, far below acceptable standards! - Unprofessional consultation: did not mention of breast flap at all, only breast implant with sizes given, kept pushing to have large implant both breasts against patient wish to reconstruct the same small size for the single mastectomy and keep the healthy one - Ultimate purpose of getting the deals, not caregiving or helping: his office (Ms. Ivy) enthusiastically called me multiple times to urge me in. Post operative care was a disaster, no call no appointment follow-ups right after surgeries. Appointment set only requested, set in a way " we are busy", spent about 10 minutes each, the doctor always rushed, not even listen nor inspect the wound thoroughly unless patient was asked for. Patient is undervalued and under treated. -The results were terrible. Tissue expander was too big, implant was small led to the symmetry was off, created more than one armpits, the incisions were cut much longer for no reason, long hollow line on side of the reconstruction, the aesthetic outcome is a total lack of attention to details. I experienced severe chest tightness, cording under arm and under chest, unable to move hand up and around right after the implant. The healing process was undesirable with infection after infection leading to the the implant was intruded out, end up the implant to be removed to clean up the mess, my saved nipple from my oncology surgeon is now gone! -Cancer patient suffers lots of pains of all kinds, this doctor adds extra extra extra, dragging healing time longer and longer, damaged both physical and mental to patient. Dr. Tran had to amputate the top of my pinky after I injured it. I was devastated over the experience. I am so thankful Dr. Tran was the doctor the hospital assigned as my surgeon. He called me 3x before the surgery to inform me every step of the way on what was going on. He advocated for me and made sure the hospital made my surgery a priority. As much as I wish I had my entire pinky still I couldn't be happier with the results. This is terrible! He was supposed to have removed a cyst from my head, three months ago, and he didn't! From looking at the other reviews, it appears I'm not alone. He said "oh it's this tiny thing i just pulled out" and showed it to me. That wasn't it because It filled again, it's swollen, and it hurts! To make matters worse, I can't see him for Three Weeks and the receptionist couldn't give me a straight answer about how they're going to ask my insurance to do it again. Do I need another MRI, do I have to go to my PCP, does insurance have to approve the same thing twice? She stuttered her answers and all I got was "Just come by in three weeks, we're very busy".
