My friends and I stumbled upon Trapizzino when we were staying in Rome and we loved it so much that we went there two nights in a row. The staff at Trapizzino was THE SWEETEST we experienced in Italy. The owner showered us with kind words and complimentary limoncello for dessert. The ambiance felt very welcoming and social and we felt like family there. At their other Rome location, we tried the classic suppli, which was crispy and flavorful. The main event we're these pizza pockets that seemed like boujee elevated hot pockets to us Americans. I indulged in the chicken cacciatore and the eggplant parmigiana. 10/10 on both flavors. My friends and I also enjoyed some spritz's with our food, which was much needed after the hot summer day we endured prior to finding the restaurant. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a sit down vibe, look no further than Trapizzino. The owner also let us know about the other locations, with one being in New York! The next time I'm in New York or Italy, I will definitely be making a stop at Trapizzino.

tl;dr the gimmicky, Hot Pocket-esque trapizzini are more fun in theory than practice While pizza al taglio is the standard in Rome, a close competitor in baked street eats is the trapizzino (a portmanteau of "pizza" and "tramezzino"). These triangle-shaped focaccia pockets are stuffed with Italian stews and served ice cream cone-style in a paper wrapper. The concept was pioneered by Roman pizzaiolo Stefano Callegari nearly two decades ago, and the popular brand has since expanded across Italy (and there even is an outpost in NYC). As such, I was keen on trying the trapizzino in the city where it all started. The Trastevere location makes it home on a narrow side street just off the Piazza Trilussa. A queue trails down the block from the takeout window, and the menu is marked directly onto the panes. Past the arched doorway, this location hosts a full bar with counter seating. Wine bottles and pizza-adjacent pictures hang on the otherwise whitewashed walls. Cigarette smoke swirls through the air, and the walls echo with live music from street performers nearby. I visited late on a weekday evening, and Trapizzino was still popping. I opted for the signature Pollo alla Cacciatore flavor, and I received my made-to-order food about 10 minutes after ordering. The tender chicken chunks were tossed in a wine-forward sauce, but the combined flavor reminded me more of chicken noodle soup than chicken cacciatore. The focaccia-esque crust was fully wrapped around the fillings, and the final bites ended up soggy. Each trapizzino retails for ~$5, and a hefty appetite could reasonably handle 2-3 of these moderately sized snacks. The trapizzino reminded me of an elevated, made-from-scratch Hot Pockets -- complete with many of the same drawbacks. Namely, the texture simply doesn't hold up as well as a sturdy slice of 'zza. As such, while the gimmick was worth a try, I don't anticipate any need to return in the future.

Tucked away in the charming streets of Trastevere, this spot turned out to be one of the culinary highlights of our trip to Italy. We started with the supplì, and they were absolutely spot-on -- crispy on the outside, perfectly gooey and flavorful inside, with that classic Roman balance of rice, cheese, and tomato. The mushroom and sausage dish was rich, earthy, and deeply satisfying comfort food with bold flavors. But the real surprise came in the form of the trapizzini. The meatball-stuffed trapizzino was a revelation crusty on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside, and packed with juicy, tender meatballs. Even better was the pollo alla cacciatora trapizzino: savory, aromatic, and perfectly seasoned like a home-cooked meal tucked into a piece of bread. Service was warm, fast, and friendly a laid-back atmosphere that still felt attentive. To top it off, their Aperol Spritz was well needed after so much walking perfectly balanced and refreshing. Whether you're on a casual stroll through Trastevere or intentionally seeking out great Roman street food, this place should be on your list. Authentic, flavorful, and full of heart exactly what you want in a local dining experience.

Trapizzino in Trastevere is a fun, casual stop for elevated Roman street food. The trapizzini are flavorful, generously filled, & perfect for a quick bite while exploring the neighborhood. Informal, efficient, & 100% Roman.

Rome is full of tourist traps, this is NOT one of them. Trapizzino Trilussa lives up to the hype. It's a small little restaurant but the service and vibes were amazing. We got suppli (fried rice balls) to start and they were incredible. We got a few trapizzinos to share and they were delicious. When we got the bill it was very reasonable for the amount of food and drinks we got (~20€ per person). Definitely would visit again if I am ever back in Roma.

The pollo cacciatore trapizzino and supli were phenomenal. The chicken was tender and mouth watering with a nice seasoning to it. The bread was very crispy, and after combining it with the meat the dish had a perfect texture to it. Moreover, the supli was nicely fried and has a scrumptious filling inside of it. The items are good value at the prices.

Walking around Rome, there are so many places vying for your business. We walked by the Trapizzino window and saw them serving these amazing looking sandwiches. We asked for a table and was shown a table that was across the street? Interesting but I'm open for adventure. We're in a spritz mood mood while in Italy so we started with a few Aprol Spritzes to get the lunch party started. The waitress spoke English which was a nice feature. I zero'd in on the fresh Burrata Trapizzino. Using their creamy cheese and freshly baked bread, what was served to me was an amazing sandwich from this restaurant. So glad we made the stop, enjoy!

We saw this place on YouTube from The Pasini's and we just knew we had to visit. After a long tour of catacombs and crypts, we stopped here for lunch. Wonderful suppli and trapizzinos. Delicious, as promised. The suppli were some of the best we'd had. Service was quick and friendly. No issue with my butchered Italian, thankfully. Space is limited and it's not a place to hang out. But that's perfect at lunch time.

    Well worth it!

This was a fun, tasty little snack. I got the meatball one. The place had an overall cool vibe. I did see at another location. It was a little more active, but everyone here was nice. It was quick. It was hot and it was very flavorful. The sauce was to die for. I also had one of the rice ball stuff with cheese and meat and that was also good. I love that this one had a crunchy outside. Perfect for eating on the go

Great food with plenty of options to choose from. Each trapizizno costs 5 euros, and having two is enough to fill the average person. They offer plenty of different flavors as well. Our waiter was very hospitable, and indoor seating was cozy. They offer both indoor seating and takeaway, which is really convenient. Definitely recommend

First place I tried when I arrived in Rome. Ate here twice. Great drunk food to walk around and eat on the go.

    Holy arancini balls!

Hands down the best arancini we've ever had! Perfectly crisp on the outside and moist, flavorful, and well balanced on the inside- unlike many places where they come out dry or fall apart. We were able to seat ourselves outside and our server was welcoming and helpful. The shaded area we were sitting in is right across from their indoor seating and a good people watching spot. We also tried the pizza pockets: one with meatballs and marinara, the other with chicken cacciatore. Both were piping hot, saucy, and packed with flavor. The sparkling wine flight was a refreshing choice on a warm day, and the flavored iced tea was a nice touch. A delicious and memorable meal all around.

We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

Already depressed knowing we were returning to the cold and fearful Minneapolis, we spent the day packing and wandering Prati. After drowning our sorrows at a few cocktail emporiums in the early evening, we walked into Su e Giu without a reservation close to 9:30. The two guys working the front showed us to a table, and we proceeded to have a perfect last night meal. Our appetizers and pastas were great, service was friendly, and I spent time reflecting on how wonderful Rome is, rather than thinking about our return to the fractured States. Su e Giu Cucina Romana is the perfect Roman restaurant to feel La Dolce Vita. It is a sweet life indeed.
