    Spaghetti carbonara
    Anna S.

While in Rome, we found it harder than expected to find real, legit Roman food. Ivo a Trastevere was recommended by a friend of a friend who had lived in the neighborhood for a number of years. We said we wanted a spot where no one was speaking English and the food was authentic and we got exactly that! The aperol spritz I was served left much to be desired (not enough aperol in my opinion) but everything after that was superb. We started with the fried zucchini blossoms which were stuffed with ricotta cheese and a sardine. It was an incredible combination of flavors. Next, we each got spaghetti a carbonara. This was probably in the top three pastas I ate my entire two weeks in Italy. The sauce was so perfect, robust in flavor but not too heavy. The guanciale was full of flavor and nicely cooked into the sauce. I cleaned my whole plate. The red wine served with the pasta was a delicious pairing as well. The service was friendly and fast despite there being an everflowing crowd of people coming through for dinner. As soon as you walk in, you see a giant pizza oven so I'm sure you can't go wrong with one of their pizzas too.

The beauty of the Trastevere neighborhood in Rome is that you have these narrow, windy cobblestone streets. If you explore among these streets there are so many restaurants, caffes, gelaterias, shops, little markets and more. We strayed away from our airBNB and went to a less busy section of Trastevere to dine at Ivo. The street was actually paved and the sidewalk was big enuf to place tables and accommodate walkers. Mija had been here before I arrived in Rome and recommended the pizze. I ordered a napoli (anchovies), and we also shared carciofi alla giudia (fried artichoke heart), fried zucca, roasted eggplant and a local wine. Mija & ITC ordered their own pizzi one of which was mushroom. The pizze in Rome is so basic, its fantastic. It is nothing like the States where you try to load as many toppings as possible. Often times the toppings in the States lead to a mushy crust bc of all the water in the veggies. The napoli was so good. The crust was nice and crispy and you could taste the subtle hint of anchovies: Everything was in balance. Secondarily, the carciofi was as the restaurant owner in Stanley Tucci's show described it, simple Roman food and a taste of history. In addition, the roasted eggplant was so fresh, it was a nice change of pace vs the veggies we get drowned in butter in the States. Lastly, the wine was so inexpensive and basic, it washed all the great food down. Regarding the ambiance, its al fresco as almost all places are in Italy. It was nice to people watch while we enjoyed our food & wine. The staff is super cool. For example, the guy who served our wine asked where we are from. When I said Los Angeles, he immediately corrected me and said, LA. He has been to NYC before, but wants to go to LA. The same goes for the owner who has been to LA, San Diego, Vegas & Miami at a minimum. If you are looking for good pizze & carciofi in the Trastevere neighborhood, look no further than Ivo. It is away from the real busy section, and the ambiance & staff are really nice.

Service was absolutely incredible! It's common for restaurants to not be as attentive to their tables in Italy, but they were amazing never had to wait for anything. The food was the best I have had so far (have been traveling from Naples to here for a week now). You walk in and see them making the pizzas in-front of you. Definitely recommend!!

We ate here our first night in Rome. Here is the way I break it down: Service: I'd give it 2 stars. Friendly enough, but when we got there they tried to sit us in the very back of the restaurant, probably because we are tourists. We asked to sit outside, and they grudgingly sat us there. They service was pretty slow and forgetful--in his defense, our waiter was extremely busy they night. Food: 4 stars. The bruschetta with tomatoes and basil was pretty good. They bruschetta with broccoli and sausage was forgettable. The pasta cacio e pepe was incredible. The pizzas were solid--we had the porcini and the prosciutto and arugula. We also had the suppli, which had a crisp exterior and slightly cold interior. Atmosphere: Five stars. Great people watching. View of San Francesco a Ripa in the distance. All in all, a good place to go. Pro tip: make a reservation ahead of time. There were many Italians waiting for a table.

Pizza & pasta in Trastevere We first visited Ivo several years ago on the strength of the Tripadvisor reviews and we were happy to find that the food was just as good on this visit. There's something special about that thin pizza crust with high quality toppings cooked in the wood fired oven and the fettucine boscaiola was amazing. We don't feel that a visit to Rome is complete without a visit to Ivo!

Been here a few times. Friendly staff and good food. The pizza is very good, would recommend the sale piccante (diavola).

After consulting with the bartender at our hotel with the goal of finding "amazing pizza for our last night in Rome" Trastevere came up right away and Ivo was #1 on his list. Located on the other side of the Tiber, the streets and restaurants of Trastevere are flooded with locals, so it's a pretty good bet that you will find amazing food here, should delicious pizza not be number one on your list. Truthfully, we could have walked, but it was going on 9pm and it would have taken a solid 35 minutes to get there from our hotel, so we decided to Uber there and walk back. A short drive later we were were greeted by some very busy streets and a lot of people (think the village or SoHo on a Saturday night), along with a long line coming out of Ivo. We put our name in (tip: don't just get in line like the people behind us did, you'll end up waiting for a whole lot of nothing because you have to go inside first) and waited about 20 minutes to get a table. There's plenty of seating so the line did move faster than expected, but every single chair was occupied at all times, so prepare for a wait, even later in the evening. We knew we were getting pizza, so it was just a matter of choosing which kind. Before we did that, we decided that there would not be enough carbs in the pizza itself, so we got bruschetta--but chose the one that was just bread, EVOO, salt, pepper, and a garlic clove to rub all over it. The simpler the better, because this was amazing and I definitely wanted three more orders. We ordered some mandatory greens (arugula and tomato salad) to prepare our palates for pizza, and not long after we destroyed that, the pizza came. We had one classic cheese, and one with sausage, olives, and mushrooms. The crust was crispy, the pizza was thin, and the sauce was excellent. I loved them both, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the meat one...it's all about that sausage, and it was really good here. We were full, but not that full. We saw the tiramisu on the way in, and I knew that's what we had to get after the pizza was gone. It came recommended by the table next to us (we were seated in tight quarters so we got friendly with our neighbors) so even though we already ate plenty of food, it had to be done... ...and i'm so glad we did. This is, hands down, the best tiramisu i've ever had. Sorry, every restaurant i've ever ordered it at and every person I know that's ever made it. Served in a round glass under a half inch of cocoa powder, the filling and layering was so perfect I don't even know how I could do it justice just writing about it. Trust me when I say you need to order this. It was so good, we didn't order tiramisu the rest of the 12 day drip (this was day 4) because there was absolutely no way it would be as good.

Super nice funny severs and staff. I nonsense kind of place and I loved ever moment.

Yess!!! If you don't try this place you are missing out. Sports bar vibe with amazing food. Moderate to low price's. Very fast paced no nonsense staff, I think it's a plus. You must try the tiramisu it is the best in Rome.

Review # 1200 After…read moresome shopping on the Via cola Di Riemzo, we were ready for lunch. This spot was a Yelp find. We arrived just before they opened at 12:30. We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

You can pair your dishes with an aperol spritz or mini bottle of wine for less than five euros. The pasta was about nine to eleven euros and the portions were more than plenty. The chef and owner are super nice and very informative about their dishes. If you are a fan of spice you have to try their chef-recommended dish. They had one dish topped with pancetta and I just about wanted to lick my bowl clean. Everyone in the group was raving how delicious it was. Egg will forever be on my must-have when visiting Rome.
