Four Years in the Making - Our Dream Week at The Hideout Ranch…read more This trip was four years in the making for my best friend "Louise" and me ("Thelma"), and let me tell you--it was worth every second of the wait. The Hideout isn't just a ranch; it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience wrapped in the most breathtaking scenery Wyoming has to offer. From the moment we arrived, our casita felt like home--immaculately kept, warm, and with views so stunning we'd stop mid-sentence just to take them in. Mornings started with crisp mountain air and the promise of adventure, and every day delivered. Between leisurely dips in the heated pool, archery, and trap shooting (which we took to with much laughter), there was never a dull moment. The food deserves its own standing ovation. Chef Steve created gourmet meals that weren't just delicious--they were tailored perfectly to my dietary restrictions without ever feeling like a compromise. Every plate was thoughtful, fresh, and artfully presented. The staff made us feel like family. Melanie in the office ran everything with a perfect blend of professionalism and warmth. Edward, our bartender and server, always kept us smiling, while Ellie made each meal feel special. The wranglers--Nina, Molly, Natalie, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Taylor--were patient, fun, and endlessly skilled, guiding us through some of the most beautiful rides I've ever taken. And then there was Horatio--the best horse I've ever met. Over the week, he learned my ways, tolerated my chatter, and if I looked away for even a second, would sneak a snack. I didn't know it was possible to fall in love with a horse, but Horatio won my heart completely. The riding here is on another level--650,000 acres of trails, each one more breathtaking than the last. One day it's red rock canyons, the next it's alpine meadows or mountain lakes. You never ride the same trail twice, and you never stop being amazed. Evenings brought a peaceful kind of tired--the kind you get from fresh air, laughter, and a day well spent. We'd gather at the bar to swap stories, watch the day's photos from the wranglers, or simply sit outside listening to the horses in the pasture under a sky full of stars. One of the best parts was connecting with fellow guests from Ireland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and the Netherlands--people who started out as strangers but left as friends. The Hideout Ranch isn't just a vacation--it's a feeling, a connection, and a set of memories that will stay with me forever. From the staff's genuine care to the quality of the horses, the scenery, and the hospitality, everything here is done with heart. To everyone at The Hideout: thank you for making our Thelma & Louise dream trip even better than we imagined. Horatio, I'll see you again someday--save me a snack.

The horses and staff are all top notch. Everything from the scenery to the cabin was beautiful! We pushed cattle and loped in the greenest fields. The staff are wonderful and really provide personalized service. By the end of the week, they all felt like friends. The horses are awesome. Because they have so many beautiful trucks/horse trailers, the guests are able to ride in many different/varied locations. Our group of about 30 guests ranged from novice to expert level riders but all riders were given opportunities to enjoy and reach their potential for the week. The food...OMG. Rachel, their executive chef, is amazing. I think I ate every single bite of every single meal. I immediately am sad that we are not there this week and I have to cook my own meals. The grounds are immaculate and the barn looks like you could almost eat off the floor (well, almost). Tom, the head wrangler, is very skilled and he seemed to match us very well with great horses. The owners are so friendly and spent time with us all week. I really can't think of anything I didn't like about this amazing trip. We're going to start saving our money to go back!

My father and I have been fishing with Brad Downey and his guides at Angler's Edge since 2001. We…read moretraveled to Montana for fishing trips in 2001, 2009, 2012, and just recently in August of 2019. The Bighorn River is perhaps the best trout fishery in the lower 48. We have been guided by Brad and others, most recently by Dave Palumbo. A+ experience. Conditions were a bit tough the week we were there, but we were consistently catching more fish than others on the stream, noticeably so. Guides were constantly asking Dave for advise, and what flies/rigs we were using! The accommodations at Angler's Edge are as wonderful as the guiding/fishing. The property boasts two well-maintained guest residences. One is a typical house with a finished basement. It has two full baths, two queen bedrooms on the main level, and three bedrooms in the lower level. The lower level rooms have multiple queen beds. You can pack 10-12 people in the house including the couches. We did this before, in fact, on a large group trip in 2001, a trip organized by our local fly shop in Pittsburgh. The other residence is a cabin-like house with 2 bedrooms with 2 queen beds in each, and a common full bath. Each house has a kitchen with all the equipment and appliances you need to cook...just bring food. Make sure to bring enough alcohol, otherwise you will be driving back to Hardin, which is 45-50 minutes away. We were pleased by the fancy new propane grills at the house. There is a deck and patio dining set at the house, and a large front porch at the cabin with benches, chairs, and a grill. The cabin and house are separated by more than enough distance from one another be considered private (150 feet). There is virtually no interaction with guests staying in the other residence, aside from a shared driveway. The house has broadband DSL, whose wireless is within range of the cabin. I was impressed by the speed of the DSL, which was on the high end for typical DSL (speed tests of ~8 megabits/s). It was fast enough to stream an NFL game in HD without a hiccup. I was also able to run a remote desktop client without issue. Both residences were updated with a HDTV since we were here last, and the satellite dish package appears to be one of the top tier packages with all the sports and specialty channels. We were very happy to return to the Bighorn and stay at Angler's Edge. I would highly recommend this outfitter to any passionate fly fisherman or woman, also seeking really nice accommodations.
