The owner greeted us, I asked if they had any vacancies. They said the cabins were all full but they had the bunkhouse with a toilet and a sink. We walked to town and had dinner and drinks, and came back and talked to locals on the porch until bedtime. What a beautiful and accommodating RV park! We really loved our time here. The laundry room is also kept very clean and has a puzzle and books to enjoy while waiting. The owners, Barry and Kim, are super friendly and have a wealth of knowledge of the area. Ask Barry to share some of his glowing rocks with you, they're something I've never ever seen before!! They also have plenty of recommendations to keep you busy exploring! We had the privilege of staying in the spot with a hot tub, it was immaculate and so relaxing after 3 weeks on the road! Definitely a KOA we'll return to!

Good camp sites for tents, RV's, and vans. Lots of space which while there are gravel sections there aren't many rocks in the ground for tent sleepers! Petroglyphs are awesome to see and learn about, My favorite is the timeline. Volunteers are awesome and it's a lovely place. There is running water which is great to go to sleep listening to but also you can swim in it. The water is chilly but when you get in it feels so nice, especially on a hot day. You can swim in the shallow end or jump in and swim to the rock formation. Not many fish saw one small one and a toad years ago but lots of rocks, and sand but not much moss or algae. Lots of wildlife saw some deer on the way there, birds, gardener snake, raccoons (Hide your food & trash!), and of course bugs. Basically all the bugs bite, deer/horse flies, Mosquitos, Boxelder bugs, ants, and a few moths & butterflies. Had a great time would recommend & they do have a drinking water station but don't bathe, or do laundry it's the sanitary station to fill up water jugs. They've got fire pits with a grill you can add on top and wonderful wonderful views of the stars, We even saw some constellations. Got very busy on the weekend but I think it has to do with the time of year.

As you enter the park, part of the Wyoming State Park System, the bright red rock face, the destination, is visible for a short time as you make your way through the trees, past the campsites, and the walking trails. Originally part of a working cattle ranch, Medicine Lodge became a 12,000 acre wildlife management area of which this site is part. The archaeological portion is a relatively short walk along the sandstone rock face where the Native American petroglyphs and pictographs are etched. Of course, there are also periodic and far less interesting distractions of the modern day taggers who can't help themselves. While there are interpretative markers drawing attention to the most notable glyphs and graphs every few feet, it can take a bit of time to discern them on the rock face -- especially when the afternoon sun is at the wrong angle. It's a truly fascinating glimpse into what archaeologists have dated back thousands of years. The markings are simplistic, much as you might see from a child, but once you understand the story each is telling, it becomes an extraordinary site. The introductory section displayed a visual representation of certain events back ten thousand years to give viewers a sense of time. The site is free for day use if wanting to see the petroglyphs is the main draw for you , but there are also overnight campsites, both reserved and first-come first-served, for those wanting to enjoy the peaceful outdoors, maybe fish, catch a glimpse of the wildlife, and camp in the western foothills of the Bighorns. There's also a horse corral for those intrepid explorers who prefer to travel and explore with their larger four-footed companion.

Restrooms and showers are typically open in summer I believe, but closed in the winter when we were there. Though there was a sign that said 'closed' at the front, locals told us that we can camp there, the sign was intended to tell people the bathrooms were closed. You could stay up to 3 days, and the city manages the free campsite! Only complaint was that dogs were barking overnight in the neighborhood.

The septic tank overflowed and they no longer have bathrooms or showers and do not notify guests of this. They got portapotties instead but they were so full you couldn't sit down without touching waste. The wifi is also out, so what are you paying for that you couldn't get at free dispersed camping??

Louie Anderson has been heavily chipping, drilling, comfortizing and outight manufacturing routes, which goes against ethics set by the Access Fund, the Bighorn Climbers' Coalition, and the climbing community at large. It's hard to support a person like that. Hopefully he changes his ways in the future, but Louie Anderson has been at it for decades. It'll take a long time for me to believe that he's stopped. The hours reflect the NPS visitor center in Lovell, WY, whereas the actual recreation area is not…read morelocked or guarded. The visitor center has a relief map of Bighorn Canyon and the surrounding areas which is cool to look at. There's also some geological, historical and photo exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the area. There's even a sign about "What's that smell?" in the area, which I definitely had wondered about driving through the town. The smell in question was the sugar beet processing! I had seen trucks of what I now know are sugar beets and the kind of sweet, earthy aroma in the air. We hiked the Sullivan's Knob Trail which was a quick easy hike, while the Upper Layout Creek Trail was tough! You can technically drive a bit on the dirt road for the latter, but you definitely need a high clearance vehicle because there are deep ruts. We also saw some of the wild Pryor Mountain Wild Horses on the side of the rod while driving, so drive slowly!

Brad lives on site with his dogs and family and they are so welcoming and helpful. Lots of brochures for the area. The campgrounds is at the very end of a residential area with a bike path and river behind it. Our dog loved walking the path in the morning. The bathrooms are SO CLEAN and nice with showers. Cleanest camp bathrooms I've ever seen. They have an outdoor sink for filling up water containers and any other needs. The grounds are really well kept and we would stay here again!

It's a bit out of the way so you put a couple extra miles on getting to other destinations but it's well worth the peace and quite in the morning and evenings. We'll be visiting again
