They did a great job. Prompt responses, and very cheerful service. They gave me a reasonable phone estimate, then I ended up just about doubling the amount that they took, so it seemed completely reasonable when the estimate doubled too. They also moved a heavy piece of furniture for me from the basement to the second floor just as a bonus. I tipped well for the good service, and they deserved it. I'll definitely use these guys again. Since I only have this kind of work done about every 10 years and since it's always a different load of stuff, I have no way to tell whether their prices are in line with other places, but can just say that the whole job cost about as much as I would have expected, and it was definitely worth it to me. read more

My husband contacted for some junk removal. We had 49 in vanity top and two 22 in cabinets and 1 lg cardboard box our new vanity came in. and another box which was 49x8 in in size. He was quoted 100.00 but once they arrived the JACKED UP the price to 150.00. We could have disposed of it at the dump for maybe 50.00. I would not recommend this company. The quote on price then charge a different one. If I had been home I would have refused their service. But now we know for future use. We are very loyal customers once we find a company that we trust. But it won't be this company. read more

They lied about the pricing, charged our family an exorbitant rate after they arrived, misled us on the size truck they would send. The crew had to break all the furniture to fit it into the truck. Eric and Matt were pleasant and removed the junk I had placed outside the house. They gave me a 2 hour window, but missed it (by 90 mins) because of the client before me and they needed to clear their truck before arriving at my home. They did call me a couple of times to let me know where they were and expected ETA. They were within their estimate ($80 to $120). I expected a little discount because they were late - I was told that wasn't possible because they have to pay for gas to drive here. In hindsight, I would consider them again, but I would also get quotes from a few other places before I'd commit to using their services. read more

Scheduling was easy, at my convenience. I was scheduled 10-12. The guy called, at 11:15, to tell me they were running late but would be here in an hour. 12:10 they pulled in the driveway. Close enough to 12 for me. The guys were very nice. Quoted me a price first. It was less than the quote I got over the phone. :) And they stuck to what they quoted me. I had a crew come to empty a home, and that crew did a sub-standard job in so many ways (estimate was for 5 hours, they stayed less than 3 yet billed the same amount, they left much of what they were asked to remove, they urinated and defecated in a toilet with the water turned off and just left it there without letting me know, etc.). I believe that one of the crew was actually texting photos of the furniture to be removed to his 'wifey' while I was standing there. They gave me no context or formula for how the estimate was arrived at, other than '3 guys for 5 hours,' especially when much of the stuff to be hauled out was furniture that was in good shape and eligible for the mysterious (and impossible to prove) discounts. But, after we called the office, they sent a new crew who did a GREAT job. Joe and Brandon were professional, thorough and extremely helpful - great workers who did their job well. In the end, despite the bad initial experience, Trash Can Willy's did the best that they could to rectify the situation. read more

I think there are a few flaws in this system, but I don't think they all lie in the hands of Trash Can Willy's. With the help of the gentleman who provided our quote, I estimated my load was between 1.5 to 2 pickups and that is exactly what was confirmed. However, my appointment was bumped day because the first customer of the day severely underestimated his or her load (apparently asked for a truck but was really a full house cleanout). The driver kept me updated throughout his route and when they completed their second appointment, I was unable to wait longer and opted to reschedule. When the rescheduling was again pushed back due to a mixup at their office, the owner gave me a nice discount to thank me for my patience. Upon the two-man crew's arrival, they confirmed the size of the load and gave me the final cost, which I then had the option to accept or decline. We accepted (it was completely in line with the quote) and the junk rapidly and efficiently disappeared into the truck. You do need to estimate based on a *level* pickup load. If you're unsure, you can attach photos to the initial web form. I'm normally terrible at making size estimates, but the gentleman who called with the initial quote helped walk me through it and appropriately set my expectations. Ask questions upfront and provide as much information as you can. Anyone can have an off day or fall victim to a comedy of errors. I will not hold our wait against Trash Can Willys because they made up for it. Yes, we could have saved money by piling everything across multiple trips to the local C&D station. But the truth is, it would have taken us more time and more planning. You have to purchase the C&D stickers from Town Hall, which isn't open on Saturdays. As I understand it, you can't get them right on the site of that special dump. Also, I think the entire process would likely have ended with one of us needing a tetanus shot. We probably would not have done it all on the same weekend. If you don't estimate properly, you may not be happy with the cost (but you can opt out). You will also throw off the rest of the day for the customers behind you. Maybe that's a bit too much onus to put on the client, but I don't know how they would improve the system without incurring more costs. If they came out separately in advance to get their eyes on the junk for an estimate, I am sure that would increase their costs. Having seen how quickly they work, I have no doubt that a slight underestimation may throw off the fee but would not necessarily impact the time. Once Trash Can Willy's arrived, all the unsightly junk disappeared in well under an hour -- probably closer to half an hour. I got my garage back (where we had consolidated the debris) and my basement back (where a good chunk of the junk had been living). That's enough for me to recommend them and, if needed, use them again. read more

I've used this company for garage and basement clean-outs at two different properties over the last month. Both times the price came in significantly higher than was quoted and I was assured I was getting a deal on what they were settling to charge me, which was a little hard to believe. However... the scheduling was timely, the crews were professional and quick, they came prepared and with enough space in the truck to handle the clean up, there was no issue to taking any of the junk, and they brought two items to my attention as new condition which was mixed in the junk to check if I wanted to keep these items, which I appreciated. They were good to work with however I am concerned at not understanding how they price. I feel like they show up and throw a number out of thin air. I will tell you I am a pretty solid estimator and my husband is in the construction industry. I don't imagine we could be so off with our description of amount not once but twice... and the "coupons" they offer I'm told are already taken off the estimate but I feel like it's never even a factor, they are going to come in higher regardless of your coupon and tell you you're getting a deal. read more

I called this service to remove a piano from my home. I had specified that the piano was on the second story, but when the two men arrived, they were not notified. Upon arrival they assessed the piano and positioned it on the edge of my stairs. While moving the piano down, the piano was dropped on my wooden stairs breaking one and cracking the other. Once the piano was out of the house, I wanted to speak about price. I was not able to speak myself to the manager. The price was $370 and only $50 was taken off. My walls were slightly marked as well. I had the men take a bit from the garage and yard no charge. I was disturbed at the fact only $50 was taken off. It was also wrong that I could not speak to the manager myself. I wanted $275 for the lack of care and damage that was caused. The men who came out to move the piano were kind and helpful, I understood they felt bad about the damages, but the management of it all was terrible! The 3 gentlemen who came to pick up my junk piano were great! I was impressed! They called me the morning of the scheduled pick up day to let me know that they would be available to come several hours earlier than the window of time we had initially scheduled. They were polite, professional, and very pleasant! Admittedly I was caught off guard when the final cost (given to me after the piano was already loaded) was $100 more than the high end of the estimated range I was given by the dispatcher when I initially called. It was a long wait for the initial consult, but I scheduled it anyway. The morning of the appointment, they call and say they can't make it due to a conflicting appointment and want to reschedule for the next week. You've already kept me waiting nearly a week, guys. Disappointed with company. Gave estimated quote over telephone and then when company came to pick up, it ended up being $80 MORE than highest quote. I could have rented a dumpster and got rid of more things for same price. Now looking back, I have seen others with same issues. Should have done homework. I also called the company after to discuss this issue. They state it is 'an estimate', however they quote low so they are considered to be comparable to the market. I'm giving rating this a 2-star because after speaking to the owner I did not feel that the service was a good value. The owner was polite enough but that wasn't enough for a higher rating. Possibly compared to trash removal companies it is a good price but I did not have a good interaction resulting in my rating. Generally I am a positive person, it is rare for me to have a bad interaction. I could not justify a 3-star since I felt that it was a negative interaction. If it was a positive interaction I would have hired their service. I looked on the website and it describes how they recycle things, donate to goodwill, and sell and refurbish what they can, etc, to keep the cost down. I spoke to the owner on the phone described the location on the property, gave the address of the property, and approximately what needed to be removed. I asked for a ballpark figure on the high end for what he thought his service would cost (I described at least 3 of the 5 bulky items needing to be removed on the phone). 1 of the objects was metal meaning he would be paid for disposing of it (people come get metal for free). The rest of the items were smaller and could have just been put in the trash which gets picked up. The price in person was double what I was told over the phone. With the thorough description given, it may have been a case of bait and switch. Otherwise maybe the owner just has bad math skills or wasn't really paying attention over the phone to what I was saying. Also, it did not seem like the price given matched the level of work. It doesn't seem like it should take as long as he estimated, unless the workers are union workers an sitting around for a couple of hours. Owner must be from Mass with the rates he's charging. Or he may be charging (gouging) you for travel time, in which case I really have to be curious what he is paying his workers. I have literally hired a moving company to move the same amount of furniture, including to take apart and re-assemble a queen size bed. In that case I had to pay to rent their truck. In the case of the movers they had to be careful not to bang the furniture wrapping things in blankets, including travel time the movers finished the job in half the time estimated by this company's owner. Including the generous tip that I gave the movers, the cost was still less. ...And this was trash! Junk! Paying more to move trash than my most valuable possessions? I could have rented a truck myself and paid a couple of guys $50 an hour and still paid less. Or even ordered a dumpster for less money which I have done in the past. The high price, potential of a bait and switch, and lack of value are why I gave this rating. This compelled me to write a review. read more
