Hmmm sad to see such poor reviews about this place. We absolutely loved our experience and food here. It took us a while to locate it due to being down a small winding alley but once we found it, we were so glad we didn't stop looking. First thing, the service was top notch. You know that's very difficult to find in Europe and our server was extremely attentive even though there was a table of 25 people seated nearby. We felt like we were the only people in there! This is one of the best lasagnas I've ever had in my life and my husbands carbonara was the best he had ever had. We also ate the chocolate cake which felt like a sin. It was so rich! This place was okay - our hotel recommended it and we were tIred from a day of travel. We probably didn't orrery the best for our tastes but we were in a new place trying new things. So a 3 star may be a 4 for you. I tried the baccala 3 ways which is pretty traditional in Venice, but I didn't like it. Tomato, Olive oil, mouse/salad - all those flavors were good but I didn't like the actual baccala - pretty tough. The veal with polenta cakes was just okay. Grilled polenta never seems like a good idea and here was another reason it wasn't. The service was fine, the price seemed high after we had a few more meals in town. read more

We also were sent by one of our hotel receptionists, and a colleague of his came and walked us over. What colleague works at a separate restaurant a couple of blocks away? You mean your cousin, father, or friend. Felt very fishy, and it was a total set up. Our hotel, The the Star Hotels Collezione, had a male receptionist on that evening. I do NOT think our hotel suggests this, ONLY this male receptionist. The concierge was off, we had no one else to ask. We asked about a restaurant we found on Yelp. He made a bad face and INSISTED we try an authentic, non tourist trap place. But that's exactly what it was, just not on the main road. It was a terrible, expensive mistake. Don't make our mistake, avoid a $100 RIP OFF! Seriously, go to any other place. Very disappointing food, service was confused, it was clean, BUT very over priced for nothing special, quite the opposite. Bland boring, rip off! Do not go because, "it's the last restaurant at then of an alley" as a charming line, it was bull sh!t. Way too BRIGHT inside, sterile feeling bland, boring food. Dim the lights just a little. Also the bread sticks in packets AND the TERRIBLE cold, cardboard bread rolls are not free. The bread rolls are truly a joke. Shame in Italy you can't get good bread in a bad restaurant. The simplest thing. No olive oil on table either for bread. Go down a random alley to find better. We strongly suggest if you want authentic food go anywhere else. This restaurant was recommended by the concierge at the hotel we were staying in. My husband had grilled chicken with vegetables, as well as fried potatoes, and I had spaghetti carbonara. I've learned that I'm not a fan of spaghetti carbonara as it's prepared in Italy, but husband enjoyed the chicken. What's more important, though, is how thoughtfully this restaurant sought to meet our needs today: we were tested positive for Covid and must isolate. This is by far the worst place that my friends and I visited in Europe. People who ate at the restaurant that didn't order from a 3 or 4 course menu got charged an extra 3.5 euro "cover charge". Now I understand if you're going to make us pay a splitting fee...but really? We can't even contest this because of the language barrier. This screams tourist trap in your face, but you can't even do anything about it. Nowhere on the menu (or in person) do they even try to explain this to you either. How sad. The pasta with meat sauce tasted so bland that I didn't even finish it. I thought Italy prided itself on pasta? Extremely disappointing, the sauce tasted like it was from a can. Probably the only upside of this place is the muscles. If you order from the 3 course menu, you can get a good portion of muscles with a small salad and some terrible pasta for around 12-13 euros. But... The waitress never took us seriously. By the end of our meal, she SPECIFICALLY ASKED US whether we wanted our check together or split. We didn't even think about splitting the check (it's Europe), but since she suggested it...we told her to split the check. She then proceeds to roll her eyes at us, give a hissy fit, and take forever to close out our tab. Lady, I know I don't speak Italian, but I can read poor body language from a mile away. We had gone to another Restruant that couldn't fit us in. The owner escorted us to this beautiful little place that you could never find if you weren't looking for it. They started us off with complimentary Bellini's and bruschetta. The service was excellent. We ordered a 2007 Amarone Della Valpolicella and it was awesome. From the soup da fagiole and the Tortelini zuppa. And I ordered the sea bream with prawns and various salads. Now we are fussy Italian- Australians and we thought this place was fantastic. So the people were very nice. Only one server spoke English which could be problematic for anyone who doesn't know italian. I speak Italian so it was no big deal. The food is really mediocre. Scala's was the worst I have ever had. To their credit they took it off the bill. Part of a good Italian meal, or any meal, is interacting with the servers. Here the service is robotic. We were recommended to this cozy place by the fine folks at Hotel Rosa Salva. Short walk from the hotel brought us into a world of traditional Italian wining and dining. The owner knew we were coming and arranged a corner table with view of the entire room. And it is wonderful room full of patrons and wait staff who go out of their way to make sure your food and beverage needs are met...and in our case exceeded. It was my first night in Venice and I didn't have reservations for other highly-rated spots. This place was OK, but not memorable. They gave me a complimentary Bellini, which I must say was so weak, they should have just called it what it was, fruit juice with a sip of champagne. The complimentary bruschetta wasn't to write home about. The highlight of the meal was the mixed seafood appetizer, which they stated in the menu had mussels and clams. To my pleasant surprise there were prawns in it. Now, it was supposed to be in a white wine sauce, but it was clearly heavy on the butter. The portion size and presentation made up for it. I had the lasagna, which kept the rating at 3. My seat had a view of the kitchen, so I couldn't help but notice a dish come out of the microwave...and them bam comes my food. The plate had this funky floral design made with balsamic reduction as the stem and flowers of ketchup and mayo. While the meal was OK, I will avoid it the next time I'm in Venice read more

Everything was delicious! Fresh and delicious seafood! Words cannot describe the smooth and full flavors of the raw slices of fresh fish we had with the seafood tower. The sea salt-light and full bodied oysters, and the perfect olive oil cooked shrimp.That, was just the starter. We had 5 people in our party. Everyone ( waitstaff) was gracious. Friendly beyond friendly. The owner was so warm and wonderful, and he spoke some English which really helped! My husband and my family were floored by the plates and my dad is a picky meat eater. Really, really picky. But they delivered and more! The tiramisu was the best I've ever had. And I don't normally like tiramisu. Their wine suggestions were great as well. We got the Pinot Grigio ( Conti formentini- collio) and the rose (infinito). My dad got two Moretti beers, and usually he only drinks Heineken. They accommodated my dietary issues too( no dairy, light oil) Oh man, how else can I talk about how awesome this place is. I really can't. Please, please, please come here. I cannot believe we are talking about the same restaurant as other reviewers. It was the worst meal we have had anywhere. Period. We wanted a romantic restaurant with great food for our one meal in Venice. Our hotel recommended this place and we were sold by the promise of all fresh pastas and homemade seafood lasagna. We were told we would need a reservation because it fills up. We arrived to a near empty restaurant with bright lights and zero ambiance. Our instincts told us to run, but we persevered based on the food recommendation. The only homemade pasta was the tagliatelle (which is not or preferred noodle), and there was no seafood lasagna on the menu. We should have left then, but didn't want to be rude. So we ordered the Viennese sardines to start and they were OK. We shared a spaghetti Bolognese, which came with canned parmesan cheese on the side. It was also OK, but we had had a much better spaghetti Bolognese on our cruise ship the previous 2 nights. For our main courses, we had grilled salmon and john dory with zucchini in sauce. Both were presented with a lot of decoration on the plate, but were horrible. The salmon had no flavor and my partner spent his time picking out huge bones and trying not to choke. The john dory was swimming in salty sauce to the point of being inedible, and the zucchini which was sliced and placed as border around the plate had a dollop of ketchup!! on every piece. Nothing says fine dining like ketchup. Better to spend more time and attention on food ingredients and preparation than on decorating the plate with over-the-top tackiness. This place wouldn't last a week anywhere in the US. We think the only think keeping it in business is the hotel concierges. We arrived in Washington DC the next night and had perfectly prepared fresh seafood and pasta for much less money in a lovely ambience. We asked to see the owner, Salvatorre, several times, as advised by the person who recommended the restaurant, he never acknowledged us. We thought this place was awesome on every level! The service was very attentive and the staff seemed to know several of the guests, which is a good sign. This place felt like they took a lot of pride in the details. It's been here since 1953 and they know what they're doing with fish! We were also pleasantly surprised to have our fish entrees served with several vegetables without paying for a side of veggies. I counted 6 different veggies (most of them grilled) beautifully presented around my piece of Sole. Absolutely delicious with a light sauce on the fish. My husband loved his Sea Bass and we enjoyed splitting a lemon ice cream gelato dessert served in a lemon. Lots of beautiful flowers and the turned out the lights and sang happy birthday in Italian of course to one of the guests. This was THE WORST RESTAURANT!! My daughter and I had the ravioli with spinach and ricotta. It arrived within 2 minutes of ordering. Cold on the inside and dry. It had likely been sitting for hours if not days. We sent it back and were told the kitchen was closed and could not order anything else. My other daughter had the ink pasta. It too was cold and tasteless. She had 2 bites and left it. My husband had the shrimp pescattore. He struggled to eat it to be kind. A bottle of water was $5.50E and the bread that we neither ordered or ate $3.50 E. Three of us left hungry without any remorse from the establishment. To add insult to injury they charged a cover charge of $12E!!! We were told it was for the napkins and the table cloth !! They took the 2 ravioli dishes off our bill but charged us for the rest. I should mention we had a bottle of wine. It wasnt Bad. We corked It and planned to take it with us given that we didn't have any dinner to enjoy it with. We forgot it on the table when my husband quickly realized and went back to pick it up. The bottle was still there for us but instead of the establishment being apologetic they insulted him claiming that we were rude and didn't know the European culture !!
