What a delightful dinner. The restaurant is beautifully done, the lighting and art work on the walls make for an aesthetically pleasant dining experience. For starters we had the crispy calamari which was perfectly cooked. Lots of flavor. For our entree I had the Bistecca Griglia and my girlfriend had the gnocchi al Forno. Both entrees were absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly and p packed with flavor. To end the night we shared a tiramisu which was probably one of the best tiramisu I have had. Overall the service, restaurant and food were excellent!!!

Can't say enough good things! Service was prompt and lovely! Was greeted with yummy bread and olive oil. Delicious aperol spritz! The place was moderately busy for a Monday, great vibes! Handmade pasta is incredible! And the sauce was a perfect consistency. The basil pesto was a great suggestion! Perfect federal hill spot!

Love the atmosphere but was let down by the food and the restaurant was cold. We sat at bar, service was quick but after the initial drinks, bread and food no further checkin until bill was paid. I love spaghetti and meatballs but in this case they seemed to have forgotten to at least take the meatballs out of the frig and and put them in some hot sauce before serving. The spaghetti was good, meatball where dense and clearly just tossed on the plate, cold The bread was crisp and oil was at least served hot! The frutti di mare was flavorful, but had only 1 shrimp , claims were absurdly small ( baby tiny, not worth it ).

Eh. Went for dinner tonight.. took almost 25 minutes for our waiter to come over and address us... it was not busy at all. Bread was okay, olive oil was too. The espresso martinis were good! - probably my favorite thing we got. The fried mozzarella balls were COLD & subpar at best. The food... the spaghetti and meatballs taste exactly like a can of spaghetti-os - no i'm not trying to be a smart ass. My Bf and I both agreed that is EXACTLY what it tasted like... very odd not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing... overall restaurant was cute.. our table was lopsided and we had to pay $20 for parking... won't be back. try another restaurant on the strip.

The restaurant looks really nice, it has a nice bar area and those tables close to the street are really great view, but the service was very slow. Appetizers are all small and cold, we were sitting there for over an hour and the pasta we ordered was still not on the table. I don't know what's wrong but there were only a few cook in the restaurant and serving a few groups of people. I had the handmade black ribbon pasta and when I finally got it, part of the pasta was hot and part of them was already cold. I did not think that's a big deal at the beginning, but the pickled sauce was just warm and really strong. It got me to the bathroom immediately and kept sending me to the bathroom until 3 am. I cannot believe what we had for a hundred dollars. This is the first time I visited and will be my last time.

Food: We went for restaurant week and I got the Caesar salad (which was good but nothing out of the ordinary), the farfalle appia (which was pretty tasty and very meaty), the Pinot Grigio (what can I say?- it's wine lol), and the pistachio gelato (which completely won me over...that was some gooooood gelato!) Service: our waitress was super nice and very attentive. Ambiance: the AC broke in the front on this very hot day, but we were seated in the back which felt nice. It was a spacious place and had a clean cozy look to it. Parking on fed hill can always be a challenge though. But this place was good overall.

40 minutes Still waiting for 2nd Course (arugala salad and seared scallops). Shouldn't take that long to make salad and sear scallops

Horrible service received during 2024 Christmas Eve dinner. We ordered the Dinner Special 'Feast of Seven Fishes' which has 3 Courses (1st Course of appetizer, soup; 2nd Course; and lastly Main Course). The 1st Course was served in a timely manner. Sadly, the calamari was way TOO SALTY and dried up. The lobster bisque was served on a curved plate and only a had a only 2-3 spoonfuls of the actual bisque. Then it just became downhill. We were made to wait 40 minutes for the 2nd Course to arrive on our table. It was an arugala salad and 4 SMALL pieces of scallops! It does not take long to make a salad and sear scallops! My partner was an executive chef for many years in NYC and Northern NJ and this was just absolutely an unacceptable wait time. The 3rd Course was spaghetti with mussels, clams and salmon. Fortunately enough it made its way to our table. We didn't think we could wait for it after the delay of the 2nd Course. The really annoying part of this experience is that our server never checked on table until the end to give us a check. He was too busy with his coworker at the bar taking selfies of themselves to post on social media. Mind you he kept passing by looking over -- knowing that it's been 40 minutes -- and our 2nd course hadn't been served. He was literally also avoiding patrons still not having received their orders for some reason. By simply checking in and letting us know that the kitchen staff was backed up would've been an assurance of the delay. I'm pretty sure we're not the only ones who will be posting negative reviews on their Christmas Eve service. We were looking forward to visiting this place when we made the 7:00 pm reservation. But the service just destroyed it. So BOO to the "new" conversion to Trattoria Appia. My advice that if you stumble on this restaurant -- only order pizza. Do not order anything else listed on their menu.

Beautiful dining space, with lots of room for a private party of 50. Food and drinks orders took a while to come out but the food was good once it did arrive, especially the calamari, baked salmon, and thin crust cheese pizza. The chicken piccata was generously sized but wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. The penne ragu was also a little tentative in flavor. The wine selection was good. Our servers were good, but the one server I interacted with that wasn't assigned to the private room could have been more helpful.

Tried the lunch time 3-course menu today! What a nice surprise. Friendly staff, beautiful interior, great pricing and selections. They make the pasta fresh on-site and I tried the spaghetti with clam sauce which was just perfect.

Went to Trattoria Appia (the old Zooma) on Federal Hill and I loved the experience. As we walked into the restaurant we saw a lady making their famous homemade pastat (black ribbon this time, made with squid ink). The dining room was ample and full of artwork on every wall. We had the spaghettini con Polpette.... a declicious dish with pasta cooked perfectly al dente topped with their famous meatballs, house marinara, hand-dipped ricotta. The meatball was to well seasoned, moist and delicious, it was a real treat.... The staff was courteous and well trained. I would come back....

Trattoria Appia, formerly known as Trattoria Zooma, underwent a recent renovation. The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the TRIANGOLI NERE DI GRANCHIO. These exquisite handmade ravioli, filled with lump crab meat, mascarpone, and citrus zest, were a true delight for the taste buds. The combination of flavors in this dish was nothing short of extraordinary. The sweet vermouth added a unique depth to the dish, while the heirloom cherry tomato cream sauce provided a perfect balance of richness and freshness. Each bite was a burst of indulgence. Trattoria Appia has certainly upheld its reputation for House Made Pastas, and this dish was a testament to their dedication to quality and taste. The renovation added a welcoming ambiance to the dining experience, making it even more enjoyable. If you're a fan of Italian cuisine and appreciate well-crafted pasta dishes, the TRIANGOLI NERE DI GRANCHIO at Trattoria Appia is a must-try. It's a true culinary masterpiece that left me craving for more. I paired it with the wine flight and it was amazing.

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

Luckily we did make reservation for early dinner so we were able to find parking right away. We got there early so the restaurant wasn't open yet. We took a walk around the Westminster for a bit until the place was open. We were sat down right away. Inside is cozy with dim lights and open kitchen and some tables. They have few outside seating available as well. We started with some appetizer raw fish and combo as well as kohlrabi Caesar. We got black bass and a seasonal fish with combo that included lightly roasted oysters, shrimp and squid. All seafood was directly sourced from local port and fresh. Seafood appetizer was delicious. The caesar was interesting. I've never had kohlrabi but it reminded me of radish and it was tasty. Personally i would have preferred little less salt and olive oil so that flavor of the raw ingredient stand out more but was not too bad. My entree was the seafood risotto. Flavorful risotto with some seafood on top. Was a bit messy to eat because of the shells but was flavorful. The crab and shellfish itself was small and a bit underwhelming but the rice was rich and full of fish flavor. My mother had the cacio e Pepe which was good but she said that nothing comparable to one she had in Rome. I was not a huge fan of the thicker pasta but that's just is personal preference. Service was excellent but the table was a bit small and tight as we were very close to the next table and can hear what others are talking about so not a very privately setting. Overall i did like the place. Food and service were good. But it was not anything exceeding expectation and there were few things that detracted from our experience such as heavy seasonings, small dining space and etc... The price is quite expensive for the amount of food they serve as well. I think it's a good place for special occasions.

The lighting is perfect for a romantic night out and the view of the Providence River right over your shoulder. We made our own board: Umbriaco di Raboso "Drunken Cow" - amazing cheese, very high quality, sharp, not over powering. Definitely get it! Provolone - sharp very good quality provolone cheese Proscuitto di San Daniele - sliced very thin, soft and flavorful. I was very pleased with the portion size and the flavor. A must have! Spicy Olives - assorted olives with a spicy olive oil. All of the olives were fantastic and there definitely was a good kick from the spice. They threw in the pickles, jams, nuts and honey, all were fantastic. I really liked the blueberry jam. The warm tapas came out at all different times. Fried Bolognese olives - Although these were unique and delicious, I would skip these next time. The Bolognese is just a pinch on the inside of the olive. It would be a game changer if there was a side of Bolognese sauce to dip them in instead. Eggplant - Definitely a must order. Super simple sauce packed with flavor and the buffalo mozzarella is to die for. The pork belly is also a must order. Tons of flavor and not a lot of fat, which surprised me. It was a good sized portion too. Now of the the pizza...we ordered Pizza Salumi. Very thin dough, wood fired for the flavor and the crisp. There is a good amount of sauce, which can make the crust floppy, but it's so worth it! The flavor of the sauce is so good. All fresh and top quality ingredients. The soppressata was perfect, taking this pizza to the next the level. It was cut super thin, as it should, and gave the pizza the flavor a margarita is missing. It would be tough not to order this next time. So just as we should have been walking out of the door because we were so full, we had the duck and the wood fired NY strip to split among the three of us. The duck - The duck dish came with the two legs so it was the dark meat with crispy skin. The duck was flavorful, moist, tender, and had some sort of apple based sauce to accompany it. The mashed potatoes were great and the Gorgonzola chunks were a treat, especially while sipping the sangiovese/cab red wine blend that we ordered for the table. The NY Strip was my favorite. The steak was tender and came with the flavor from that wood fired grill. The sauce was so good that I dipped every piece in it, trying to reserve some for the mashed potatoes. I ordered the steak medium rare + and it came out just how I wanted it. We ordered the lemon tart for my mom's birthday dessert. I would skip the dessert next time, but I always skip dessert. My mother loved it...very fresh and vibrant. I would have to say that Bacaro is my favorite RI restaurant, especially for a special night out. It is also a perfect spot to go and grab a snack or two with friends after work with a drink. It is affordable as you want and can find high end alternatives as well. The bottle of wine was $48 and you couldn't have asked for a better pairing with all of the food. We also ordered an after dinner cocktail, called the Call to Italy...very refreshing for a digestive type cocktail.
