A tale of two stories. On the one hand, super nice food. Not the best, but one of the better ones we have had in Rome. On the other hand the poorest service and cold atmosphere that we ever had experienced. The difference in service between different tables was noticeable. We made reservations long before (and mentioned it was to celebrate the 20th birthday of our daughter), yet last minute reservations were treated so much better than we were. A real shame as we could have seen ourselves come and eat here many times. Yet, based on this experience it is a "never again". read more

This place was great. Not great for kids, as it's dark and romantic and the kids we had with us were not happy. Service was good. They start the table off with a little sparkling wine with mint and end the meal with a chocolate covered orange. The food was to die for. read more

Not the birthday celebration we wanted to give our daughter due to the poor service . Food was good - some dishes even very good - but service was frankly appalling. Such a shame cause it could be a nice restaurant, but due to the people who run it, it is not. read more

Very friendly wait staff. I had a spicy shrimp pasta with marinara dish (can't remember the name). Pasta was good- as was sauce. Very convenient location when visiting the Coliseum. read more

I had a wonderful lunch at Barchetta. The staff was great, and the food was excellent. I had the spaghetti with clams, and they were delicious. There must have been 20 small clams on the plate. read more

We came here on a Saturday evening at opening without a reservation. The hostess was kind enough to find us a seat. We were greeted with a refreshing cold drink. The restaurant has a welcoming and beautiful decor. The servers are very friendly and attentive without rushing service. We were also given menus in English. The bread bowl had multiple selections and the police oil was excellent. We enjoyed the pea and ginger soup, the fresh mozzarella and tomato salad as our starters. The freshness of the food is remarkable. We ordered the carbonara and the fig and bacon risotto. Both were outstanding. The portions are very large so we could only eat half. We opted to share the grilled calamari for our main. It was also excellent. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. I wanted to try the baba for dessert but they were out. They did bring us a chocolate covered orange slice. It was the perfect ending. The staff provided us with a lovely, relaxed dining experience. We would come back! read more

We had been searching for really good food which is surprisingly hard to find in central Rome. After asking around, we decided to try the Trattoria. We walked past before sitting down and were happy to see a table of older locals enjoying a meal. Always a good sign when there is a table of locals soaking in the ambiance. We circled back and asked for a table. We were greeted by pleasant staff and given a table quickly. We were greeted with a fry ball and a drink comprised of prosecco , soda and mint which was prefect to cool down and prepare. The daily specials were hand written on a piece of paper in the menu. The wait staff was patient and explained the choices. This was easily the best meal we have had in Rome. Easily. And not terribly expensive. read more

What a beautiful dining experience. Arrived and immediately received a Prosecco and a wonderful appetizer or amuse bouche (complimentary) . We had a carbonara meatballs and a salad. Then had to have at table prepared tiramisu. To finish things they bring a delicious dark chocolate covered orange, It is family run and everyone so nice. We had such a bad experience. They knew we were tourist and ignored us most of the night. Waited 20min before we had to flag our server to take our order. Then had to do it again to get our check. We notice a high profile person walked in. He was immediately seated and given appetizers before he sat down. His food came out within 5min. Imo their pasta was ok and nothing to brag about. The place was busy but it seemed like neighborhood patrons who got there really early and just hung out there for most of the night. The food is expensive in comparison to other neighborhood restaurants. Unless your from the area or country I'd avoid this place. read more

A snobbish place where the wait staff is arrogant and defensive. Our pasta was undercooked and they sounded like we didn't know how pasta is. Just didn't like the patronizing tone. They swapped out for another pasta which was slightly less undercooked as well but it was very salty. Extremely disappointed with the food and more so with the wait staff. Hope the restaurant takes this constructive feedback and makes amends for a better experience. read more

We were welcomed with a glass of complimentary Prosecco which was nice. We enjoyed a very good bread basket with four different types of bread (not the usual all white Italian bread). Our meals were both delicious with the baked salmon and mixed salad with avocado perfectly prepared. When we asked for our check we were given complimentary sweets that were also very good. We highly recommend this restaurant that is just around the corner from the Le Meridien hotel. read more

Very warm welcome with complimentary cold drinks. Very friendly waiters and talk nicely with the kids. To our delight, they made Tiramisu on the table and allowed the kid to get the taste of the cream left on the bowl. Wonderful night. read more

We had the best time at this restaurant. We did not have a reservation but they were able to seat a party of 5 and everything was superb. It started from the moment we stepped and was treated to a complimentary light and refreshing Prosecco (see picture). Unfortunately, I didn't get pictures of our dishes but EVERYTHING was fabulous. What a delight! We stumbled in because it was open on a day when many restaurants were closed. The waitress brought us sparkling pink wine, and when I explained I don't drink alcohol, she brought me a non-alcoholic version. First time in Italy someone has responded that way. I was quite charmed, and the mocktail very refreshing. For our meal, I had the cacio e pepe and my boyfriend had a mixed seafood pasta. Both were very good. Then dessert. They brought my boyfriend a plate of lady fingers, then poured coffee over them, spooned on cream, and covered it in chocolate powder. Off the charts good. But there's more. Then they bring 5 - yes, FIVE - jars of assorted cookies and a carafe of cream. The idea is to select cookies from the jars then spread them with cream. So freaking indulgently good and fun, too! Very nice people, comfortable atmosphere, and desserts I'll never forget. read more

Wow! What an experience! The friendliness of this place from the serves to the owner was just unbelievable. Absolutely recommended for a meal where you want more than just food. We were probably the only tourists there which to me just added to the amazing experience. We were greeted with (free) prosecco and a couple of fried dough appetizers. Then the servers patiently explained the menu and ingredients. The pasta was fresh, al dente and delicious. We ended up ordering a meat dish and a salad mostly because we were embarrassed not to, after the patient and polite explanation. After finishing dinner, the server then brings us chocolate covered orange slices to try. At this point we were beyond full so we didn't order dessert, and just asked for the check. Our friendly server then brings two gigantic jars of cookies to the table, with the most heavenly lemon custard. After all that, we were only charged for the dinner items we ordered, all the extras were complimentary! read more

Ate here solo on Monday night. It's by far the best meal I've had on this trip to Italy thus far. As others have noted, the service is fantastic. Paola and her team are warm, it feels like dining with a host family. I ordered mortadella with truffle to start. Good quality and solid overall. I had plenty of pasta on my trip so ordered the rabbit ragu (special) for my main. The protein was perfectly cooked, but the real magic is in that ragu. It's sweet, sour, has a good hit of spice and finishes with umami on your palate. Tiramisu is solid, as others have noted. I'm a fan and will be back shortly read more

Wonderful Rome restaurant! We had the most memorable evening at this place. They don't open until 7:30 so we were starved after a day of sight-seeing, but when they opened the doors they greeted us with glasses of Prosecco followed by fried sage and dough balls. The interior is beautifully appointed and friendly waitstaff. The dinner was marvelous and they served complimentary tasters of the most amazingly dark chocolate dipped orange wedges. For a relaxed dinner that allows you to kick back and converse over a couple good bottles of wine, this is a great option. For a romantic lunch for two a few blocks away from the busy Metro, this is also a great option. As noted, we were greeted with prosecco and fried dough balls while still in the doorway. At the table, we had a lunch that ignored the main menu and focused on the hand-written daily menu; and on a separate trip had an extensive dinner for 3 with 4 courses. I highly recommend the gnocchi with mushrooms and the veal. The desserts were delicious. We stumbled through Italian and they stumbled through English, and in the end we all understood each other well. I have already recommended Trattoria della Barchetta to more friends! read more

Interesting place, it started very good as we were greeted with a glass of sparkling white wine and a small biscuit. Things quickly went down hill, the waitress literally stood at the table hovering over people waiting for us to order. We ordered an appetizer hoping she would not breathe down our necks. The appetizer was very good flavor. While we were ordering the main courses the waitress told us that we could only have three types of pasta at the table although there were six people at the table. I assumed it was because they wanted to ensure the food would be hot- wrong!! When the food came half of it was hot and half was cold. To bad because I assume if the ravioli was hot it would be a lot better. To many better restaurants in Rome that are better and cheaper- skip this place read more
