From Chicago, touring the Vatican and we stopped by for our first meal in Rome. Here are some things to consider... --the service (5+/5) was exceptional! Our waiter, who was from south Italy was a real entertainer. He played little tricks and games with each person in our party and his work was spot on. I ordered the fettuccine with meat sauce (4/5), very rich meat flavor. My daughter and her friend ordered a white wine (4/5), very sweet, but not too sweet, and delicious. We also had fresh fruit for dessert, the peaches (5+/5) had a light cinnamon sugar syrup, incredible flavor! Overall highly recommended! read more

Archimede holds a special place in our hearts. I took my future wife there on our first date (long story) 47 years ago. We went back to Rome for that "meetaversary " and had a wonderful meal of traditional Roman specialties, cacio e pepe and spaghetti carbonara. Happy I came. Very busy when i showed up but restaurant is clean, has a sense of dignity and has been around for a long time. Server was kind though harried at first. They do their best here tho should get more servers. The food was delicious and satisfying. Can't go wrong with the Roman classics they specialize in. read more

We loved our dinner at Ristorante Archimede. We had walked passed it a few times in the evening as we explored the historic district and it caught our eye for its pretty outdoor seating area. This yelp listing with the attached photos is confused. Archimede Sant'Eustachio is the sit-down restaurant. Café Sant'Eustachio is a different business next door, a small, separate cafe with a few al fresco tables. In fact, this cafe is one of the most famous coffee bars in Rome. We stopped there for a pick-me-up mid-afternoon, and there was a mob of people waiting to get in. People were pushing and shoving. With all the coffee bars in Rome, I couldn't understand it, except that it is cited in Fodor's Rome guidebook. The coffee was good,but nothing special, and it was so crowded that I couldn't stand at the bar without being crushed, so, cup in hand, I elbowed my way ouside and tried to sit at one of the vacant tables. The waiter immediately yelled at me to get up. In Italy, table service costs 2-3 times the price of a coffee at the bar, and what I did was verboten. Now to the restaurant. We had eaten here our first night in Rome since it was near our hotel. The server was dour, barely said a word to us. I had the bucatini all'Amatriciana, and my wife had fettucine with porcini mushrooms. The fettucine dish was quite dry, and there was no olive oil on the table. Mine was just OK, and could have used some grated cheese, but none on the table, either, and our waiter had vanished after serving our entrées. When we were leaving, I gave stone-face a small tip anyway, and he finally smiled. Tipping in restaurants here is not expected, and most Italians don't do it. There's usually no line on a credit card slip to add one. If you do want to leave a small cash tip, it's always appreciated. read more

We enjoyed a deliciouso meal at this quaint little restaurant. The outside of the restaurant is charming, with greenery and ivy growing down the sides of the building, outside seating covered with lighted umbrellas and also a bright, white table clothed inside. We dined outside. We were looking for more classic or traditional items for dinner, so we ordered the fried artichoke hearts, also, we ordered the ravioli with sage butter and the fettuccini with meat sauce. The prices were excellent, to the point that we almost over ordered, but decided to take it slowly. The portions were perfect, we do wish we had ordered one more entree just to try another item off their menu. The couple next to us ordered the fettuccini porcini and spaghetti with clams, they were raving about their meal as well. Very high quality food and a nice, enjoyable meal. Found this little gem of a restaurant outside our hotel (The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel) and had dinner twice in our five nights here! The spinach ricotta ravioli in a sage butter sauce is so delicious that I ordered it twice. I also added a spinach dish the second night My husband had the eggplant Parmesan the first night and the salmon dinner with a very large mixed salad on the second visit. We decided that the best way to leave room for We tried the Archimedes special appetizer plate the first night which was a nice selection of several of the individual appetizers on their menu. If we return again, we would do the salad, vegetable and maybe a pasta as family style sides and then two entrees so that we would have enough room to sample some of their homemade desserts! After landing for a month long stay in Italy we decided to eat here between touring the Piazza Navona and Pantheon. It had just opened for midday meals and we had just wandered into the area looking for a nice place to sit down and enjoy the sunny weather. This place has a lovely patio with greenery and covered seating. We decided to sit outside and ordered the pressed artichoke and the Carbonara. As far as Carbonara goes a group member is a huge fan of the non creamy eggs/bacon/Parmesan only version (and to her- the only version to every consider eating) and while it wasn't her all time favorite it ranked pretty high and she will be returning when she spends the day in Rome on her next cruise. Both were excellent and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The service was very slow but as an American I was told this was expected so don't sit down if you are expecting a quick bite. Sit. Bar none, this was the finest experience I've had at a restaurant. Everything from the service to the food quality was superb, and it was a pleasure to spend my first night ever dining in Rome at this establishment. No idea where to even begin. We showed up when it opened at 7, and just walking in left me with a feeling that something great was in store. The ambience is so authentic, but humble. On your way into the dining room, you walk past their fresh food, ready to be prepared for the night. Upon being seated, I could tell my waiter was a man who took his profession seriously, and service was his utmost priority. I do not know what his name was, but the way he treated us was impeccable. He practiced patience, despite the fact that we were tourists (don't worry, this is not a place that sees many tourists at all), and made me feel as welcome as family. I do not care for red wine, but my wife ordered the house red and I couldn't have enough. I wish I could have a glass a day for the rest of my life. Not too try, not too sweet, affordable, and such high quality. My entree was the Spaghetti Amatriciana, and the pasta is clearly homemade. Perfect texture, satisfying quantity, and this is coming from someone who hates pasta. Figured since I was in Italy I would try what is supposedly the best, and I'm glad I ignored my initial reservations. On top of that, the sauce just reaches a level of flavor that I cannot comprehend. Puts American Italian dining experiences to shame. My waiter was very generous with the Limoncello, and I didn't mind. After our 2 hour meal (not a minute was spent dissatisfied) he drops off the check and leans in close to ask, "Any more Limoncello?" and gives me a wink. I politely decline as I had already consumed 4 shot glasses worth of Limoncello, in addition to 3 glasses of wine. This whole experience was never surpassed during my 10 night stay in Italy, which consisted of Rome, Florence and Venice. Best culinary experience I've ever had. When I think back to the dinner, it's as if you dropped me into the "Be Our Guest" scene in "Beauty and the Beast" and I was Belle. read more

This was a stumble find. The food was decently priced and the service was actually very good. Spoke English well. Salad was amazing. The carbonara was probably one of the better ones we've had. Hubby and I knew that we were in the right place when we walked through the entry and saw the locals enjoying their meal. Plus, no one was standing at the entry, trying to drum up business like at other restaurants. We tried a few restaurants in the Piazza Navona area but were disappointed (food was more expensive, not fresh or authentic and service was not attentive). This restaurant is a hidden gem serving appetizers, pasta, entrees and dessert. We shared the Catalan shrimp, seafood salad, and pesto pasta. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. We loved our meal and service so much that we came back 2 more times (lunch and dinner) during our 5 day stay in Rome. Be aware that they charge for water and bread in almost all European restaurants. read more

This restaurant had a very friendly staff and the Building had some charm, however the food was extremely disappointing. I ordered the night's special which barely had an ounce of fish and the pasta was one minute away from being crunchy it was so undercooked; obviously not freshly made. I'm not even exaggerating here.
