In 2018, she told me that I…read morewould soon require laser treatments and/or injections in the eyes due to the condition of my retinas. I decided to get a second opinion and made an appointment at Mid-Atlantic Retina, where the doctor there told me that my retinas were in good condition and that I shouldn't let anyone shine lasers in my eyes or inject my eyes with needles, and to return to see him in a year. Then the doctor at Mid-Atlantic Retina said to me, "Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy", to which I replied, "What?"... he told me I had Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy, explained the nature of the disease, and asked if Dr. Schoeppner had ever told me I had Fuchs; when I told him that she had never said anything about it to me, he promised to send her a letter and recommend some OTC drops that would help with the condition. The next time I saw Dr. Schoeppner in 2018, she never mentioned getting the letter about the Fuchs, or even that I had the corneal disease, so, finally I asked her about it, and when I did, she got very huffy with me and said to me, "I found it to incidental (not sure what she meant by that) and I see that all the time in my elderly patients!" Well, what was "incidental" to her was very serious to me. For years I had told her about issues I was having, like seeing halos around car headlights and tail lights and street lights, which are symptoms of FCD, and she never once commented on what I told her or mentioned that I have Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy, a disease of the cornea in which the endothelial or inner cell lining of the cornea starts to deteriorate, i. e., those cells of the inner lining of the cornea die, which causes the eyes to water a lot, sensitivity to light, especially blue light, like that from computer and phone screens and even fluorescent lighting. I have been seeing a cornea specialist, who is the Director of the Cornea Fellowship Program at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, for a few years now, and she has determined that I have a moderate case of FCD. If and when it should progress any further, there is a surgical option available to avoid the worst case scenario of going blind. I sure am glad that I decided to get a second opinion back in 2018. And needless to say, Dr. Schoeppner is no longer my ophthalmologist!

They changed their hours. They SHOULD have called me, told me that their hours had changed and then asked me which days and times were convenient for me to reschedule. I wouldn't have had a problem with that. I cancelled the appointment because I already had a prior commitment. Today, I scratched my cornea and Express Care told me to make an appointment with my eye doctor within a few days. I called, told the receptionist the problem and then mentioned that I did not want them to reschedule as they did before. The nasty receptionist yelled at me that they had no openings today and when I tried to explain that it did not have to be today, she hung up on me. I won't return and my wife also found a new doctor for both if us. They lost 2 patients because of a rude receptionist.

He then got sick and his office told me to go back to Mid Atlantic Dr. Chiang because they didn't know when you would be back. I needed to get my injection of Vabysmo because I was having Cataract Surgery the end of September. I called Mid Atlantic and explained to them the situation and told them I needed to come back to their office to get my Vabysmo injection. They said OK and made my appointment, I called two weeks before the appointment. They never told me to check with my insurance or last doctor's office to get my injection approval or transferred to them (I never had to do this before). When I got to Mid Atlantic Office on 9/4, they did all the preliminary eye exams and dilated my eyes. Then they took pictures and told me to wait in the waiting room. I waited and then was taken to a room. Two nurses came in and the one female nurse said to me "I guess you are expecting to get your Vabysmo Injection today", to which I replied yes, why do you ask? She said they might not be able to give it to me and that they had to check with their billing dept. first and left the room. I did open the door after they left to tell them that I did have a secondary insurance and also a grant for the injections.They said yes we know. A little while later Dr. Allen Chiang and the two nurses came back into the room, Dr. Chiang proceed to tell me why he could not give me the injection I had been receiving since Feb. at the other doctor's office. He said the injection is approved for that doctor and his office only and that was why he could not give it to me He told me that it's my insurance companies fault and also mentioned congress at fault too! When I questioned the situation, like why they never told me any of this prior to my appoint, he got very upset and said that his staff work overtime and very hard to take care of their patients and it's not up to them to tell me these kinds of things. He told me that if I wanted to pay full price for the Vabysmo Injection he could give it to me. He then offered to give my Avastin a drug that people get initially when first diagnosed with this condition which he had started me on in 2018. He said if I wanted to get this drug it would be free. I told him I was concerned because I now had a new condition in that eye called FUCHS and also a bad cataract which was scheduled for surgery soon. He said that the only difference between Vabysmo and Avastin was that he would have to see me back in five weeks for another injection. He said that his office would try and get the Vabysmo approved by then. I was very upset and concerned about getting a different drug before surgery and not being able to discuss it with the Cataract doctor or my insurance company before this appointment. I asked if I could please have a few minutes to make a decision before agreeing to get this different drug. I was in tears, but I felt that I had no other option but to get the injection or cancel my upcoming surgery and postpone months from the scheduled date. I tried to give my other doctors a call but of course at 4pm could not get through. I was left with no other choice but to get the injection. The nurse came back in and I signed the agreement to get the Avastin injection. The nurse gave me 4 drops of novocaine. I asked for more because I always got 8-12 drops. They usually gave me more and then they let you sit for like 15 minutes before giving the injection so the drops have time to work. No sooner had the numbing drops been given then Dr. Chiang came in and injected my eye. I screamed it was the most painful injection I had received in 6 years! He then said I will see you after your surgery and left. The nurse wasn't going to even rinse the eye, but I asked him to please do it. I did tell him that I wasn't going to come back to the office because of how I was treated today! He actually said he understood, and wouldn't want to be coming to a doctor expecting one thing only to get something else shoved down their throat.And to top it all off, a few days later I got a call from the office manager, who told me I would be getting a letter from Mid Atlantic dismissing me from their practice, because they said I was rude to their staff! I did call my Insurance Aetna and they told me that Mid Atlantic Office could have called them and gotten a rushed 48 hour approval for the Vabysmo Injection. They didn't even need that as they knew about this appointment 2 weeks prior and had plenty of time to get the approval. Someone in that office didn't do their job and they were just covering up! Hence, the dismissal from the office. I am 66 years old and now have to get another doctor again. Not to mention reschedule my surgery. I have never felt so belittled by a doctor and their staff before! BEWARE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS NO SYMPATHY!

Upon leaving one of my most recent visits, while waiting to check out, Dr. Yonekawa made a point to come to the check in/check out desk to say good night to all of the employees still working before he left for the day. To me, this shows that he cares and has respect for the employees. In my opinion, a lot of doctors these days forget that they can't do their job alone and without these people, they would not have the practice that they have. We left an hour and a half after closing on a holiday Friday, with Dr. Fox and his caring, lovely admin person wishing us well. Dr. Tim Fox is truly a gifted intuitive healer. He not only cared for my son's eyes masterfully, but also, with true grace and noteworthy subtlety, knew how to care for the hearts of a 10 year old frightened he may have to on chemo injections again, a frantic mom afraid he'll go blind and trying to keep a straight face, his worried grandmother, and a teenager. As far as non-emergent care: he's clearly a pro; his lovely admin went out of her way to meet the needs of my family in the waiting room and to give me everything I could need in the future; he had an office dog for many years; his office is a rotating art display for local artists; and he's a gentle-spirited, golden-hearted, smart, abundantly likeable human. I don't live near here and will likely never see him again, but he will always be a truly moving and uplifting part of our lives. I will tell this story, and it will bring out the good in us. I was referred to them by existing clients and had the best eye exam with Dr. Fox. He took time to pinpoint my vision needs. I picked out frames and have since gotten more compliments on my glasses than anything else I own. In addition to the care provided by Dr. Fox, the staff is very helpful and informative. They are happy to help you select frames but are not overbearing like places at the mall. I went in today with hopelessly broken Wayfarer sunglasses and they were able to fix them on the spot. It doesn't get any better than this. Worth every penny.
