We worked with Travel to Paradise to plan our Honeymoon in Hawaii, and our planner was Meg. I infer that Meg runs the business. Initially Meg was very responsive, but it took quite some time, about a month, to get an itinerary from her, and that still required us to follow up several times. We had given her a week when we wanted to travel and specified that we were happy to leave a few days before or return a few days after that week, but the itinerary she gave was just for that week. Because of that, one of the resorts where we wanted to stay wasn't available, because it was booked that week and she didn't look at any dates before or after. She did provide us with options for resorts for the other part of our trip, which was helpful. Ultimately, I did the research on my own to find flights and an itinerary that allowed us to stay in the resort we wanted for part of the time, as well as one that she recommended for the other part. Meg was able to find us a slightly better option for flights, so ultimately we decided to continue working with Meg for the booking. Once we arrived, we had an incredible time. I give Meg credit for recommending the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki, because we really did enjoy it there and we got a great room. Our second resort, Aulani, was the one where I had found the availability. It was amazing, but again, that's the one we found on our own. On our last day, we learned that our flight was cancelled. I absolutely do not fault Meg for that. However, given that Meg had booked our flights, I was hoping she could try to help us find an alternative to get home. I called Meg on two different numbers and texted her, and I still have not heard back. I spent over two hours on my last day of my honeymoon arranging for an alternative flight, and Meg couldn't even respond with a text or call. I understand that she may not have been able to do anything different for our flight, but at the very least a returned phone call would have been appreciated. I was extremely disappointed. Ultimately, I really feel as though I could have put together a pretty similar trip without Meg. I wish we could recommend Travel to Paradise more, because Meg does seem like a genuinely nice person, but we were pretty disappointed with her overall. read more

If I could give Paula and her amazing travel company 6 stars out of 5, I would. As a first-time traveler to Hawaii, and eager to make a big bang family trip, I was what most people would be: confused. There is a lot of information on the internet, but each one of them claims that a certain attraction or activity is "the best", and not-to-be-missed. Well, given than I had finite time and money to spend, I needed to chat with someone wise, experienced, empathetic and friendly to begin with. Paula Takamori is exactly that. She spent so much time with me on the phone just discussing the pros and cons of various aspects of my nascent itinerary that I was surprised. And she did that even before knowing whether I will eventually hire her services or not! Hiring her services is like having a guardian angel for your Hawaii trip. She charges $100 on your credit card as a retainer fee - it guarantees you continuous access to her wisdom by phone, text or email until the point the itinerary is 100% fixed (and beyond). She will keep you sending the pictures of the hotels/ accommodations, she will continually fine-tune the itinerary, suggest improvements, research your needs and stay in touch. Once the itinerary is fixed, she will send a quote for it. You will directly pay her instead of paying the hotels, car rental companies or airlines. She will take care of everything for you, and send you confirmations promptly. For a control freak like me, the thought of not directly booking my hotel or car was very uncomfortable at first. Let me tell you this - going against my initial instincts and letting her do these was one of the best decisions I took. She negotiated deals for me that I would not dream about. She truly has influence and clout when it comes to dealing with the local businesses in Hawaii. It is not usual for me to pay for reserving major resorts and hotels without researching the heck out of them, reading ten thousand reviews and trying to discover undocumented pictures of their rooms on the internet. But after talking with Paula, I trusted her. And I am glad that I did! On our last day at the Fairmont Kea Lani, there was a small card under my door. When you're expecting, everyone tells you to take a trip with your spouse while it's still "just the two of you." My husband and I wanted to do a Babymoon, and between both of our demanding work schedules, and preparing for the arrival of a new family member, we didn't have the time we needed to plan our "Babymoon." I enlisted Meg's help at Travel to Paradise because of all the travel agents I spoke with, Meg asked me the most questions and really gathered insights on what my husband and I were looking for in this trip. She was organized, thorough, and painted me such a great picture of what our Babymoon could really look and feel like in a way that felt designed just for us and we liked to do. Usually I do hours of research to plan my ideal vacation; but since I didn't have the time, I could tell that Meg would approach it the same way that I would have, and I trusted her local insights. Meg referred us to a network of people who provided dinner recommendations and excursions for the two islands we planned to visit (The Big Island and Kauai). By the way, the helicopter tour over Kauai was the absolute trip highlight! And we enjoyed our Snorkel Cruise in Kealakeua Bay. Meg's connection who helped us select pregnancy-friendly excursions was so important to our experience and saved me hours of research. Meg also was very responsive to questions, such as the best route to take to get from one side of the Big Island to the next, and because of her recommendations, we knew exactly which stops we should take along the way. We approached our Babymoon with confidence, and that made all the difference. My husband and I couldn't believe that we were setting on a twelve-day vacation without doing our usual research, but it turned out great: from stopping at the Black Sand Beach on the Big Island to see turtles sunning themselves, to visiting the arts town of Hanapepe in Kauai, our Babymoon is a treasure that we will always remember. read more

Hubby and I have traveled to Hawaii many times but had never been to Kauai & wanted to find out more about the island (atmosphere, areas that fit our lifestyle/tastes, when to travel, where to stay, best things to do for the time of year, etc). We contacted Travel to Paradise on a fact-finding mission and ended up planning our entire vacation with them. Paula and Nicole are efficient, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. My emails/questions were always answered promptly and as they knew so much about the island they were able to match our tastes perfectly so our stay was idyllic. Paula even arranged for a pineapple greeting in our hotel room so we had a yummy welcome surprise! The agency is not one of the "big" group agencies, so no one greets you at the airport with a tacky lei and buses you around like a herd of cattle. You are free to decide if you want to join a big tour or plan your own activities. They guide decision-making on where to stay, when to go, etc based on your time and $$ constraints and their help was invaluable. One tip: I believe they outsource activity planning at the time of this review, and the outsource person was flaky and did not return my emails/questions so we ended up planning activities with the concierge once we got to our hotel--this suited us better anyway. It was quite the pleasure working with Meg in helping to plan our anniversary trip. Meg was so helpful and knowledgeable and very quick with all her responses to all our questions. This was our first trip traveling to Hawaii and from talking with Meg she really got a sense of what we were looking for. Who better to use than someone that lives in Hawaii and has traveled to all the different areas! My husband and I used Travel to Paradise to plan a trip to Kauai to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Nicole at Travel to Paradise was wonderful to work with. She responded very quickly to questions and put together a few different options for us to consider based on budget. Since she lives in Hawaii and has visited all the resorts and has done many of the activities, she knew which ones were best - and they did not disappoint. Our hotel accommodations were the BEST!! Everything about our trip went smoothly and was even better than I had anticipated (and that's saying a lot!)
