I will give it to them that everything was clean and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. However, this place obviously hasn't been updated since the 70s and needs some serious remodel and repair in some places. If I could give zero stars, I would. I have never felt the need to leave a review on a hotel before but my experience with the Travelodge by Wyndham Silver Spring requires that I post a review to warn others of this hotel. My husband and I reserved a room for a week in May 2026 to visit our daughter in Washington DC. We reserved a non-smoking room with a King bed. Here was our experience: 1. Check-in time was 3 pm. I arrived at 2:50 to see both a "Travelodge" and a "Days Inn" sign on the hotel, so there was some confusion as to whether or not we were in the right place. I was told I needed to come back in 10 minutes to check-in. So I sat in my car until 3 pm, but watched as the manager checked in another family and took them to their rooms while I waited. 2. Once I checked in, I was told that the room with the King bed was not available but they had a room with two doubles. I said that was fine as long as the cost was equal or less than the cost of a King room. The woman checking me in said that the cost was actually *higher* but that they would reduce the price just for us. FYI, I know from when I made reservations that the cost was the same. I don't like being lied to. 3. The check-in procedure took 10 minutes because the woman checking me in continued to have a private conversation (in another language) with someone else in the office while completing the process. I stood there and waited for them to end their conversation before she helped me. 4. First impressions of the room: Sheets and blankets on the bed but no bed cover. No pictures on the walls. They were blank. The floor was linoleum and sticky with stains. No rug. 5. There was no fridge. There was a closet with no doors. Felt a bit like a prison cell. 6. The TV was not connected to cable. It produced nothing but a fuzzy image. 7. The bathroom door didn't close and certainly didn't lock. 8. The tub was clogged. 9. When you turned on the shower head, water sprayed out from the back of the tub faucet, likely into the wall and beneath the tub (more on this below). 10. Towels were tiny, max of 4x2 feet in dimension. Not designed for adults. 11. Minimal lighting. Very dark room. 12. On our third night, I stepped out of the bathroom after taking a shower and my husband said that water had flooded the room from the bathroom. There was a puddle in the corner by the bathroom, seeping up from under the linoleum tiles. 13. The next morning, we went to the front desk to be given a new, non-flooded room. The clerk said that he would "see if anything was available". I explained that he HAD to change our room because he couldn't leave us in a flooded room. He said to return later to get new keys. We came back that evening and we were given a new room. 14. The new room didn't flood and the bathroom door closed, but the lights in between the two beds didn't work. 15. There were cockroaches in the room. We had to store our suitcases up high in the closet and on the single chair in the room to avoid having them crawl into our belongings. 16. Aside from this, the hotel was occupied by some people who seemed to have mental health issues. They yelled and talked loudly. The front office had several unhomed individuals sitting there every time I went in. We did NOT feel safe there. FYI, it was a busy weekend in DC as there were many college graduation ceremonies taking place. Moving to another hotel was not an option. Do not stay here. It is horrific, unclean and unsafe. read more

What a shit hole. Seriously. I arrived after dark, and there was a homeless guy wandering around the parking lot, trying to engage me. When I walked into the lobby, I was surprised that he followed me in and plopped down in one of the chairs there. Clearly the front desk attendant didn't care and let him stay there. He kept saying hey hey hey. When I finally turned and looked at him, he asked me if I was local , and I looked at him in disbelief and answered with one word and then turned away. Then I saw the room. Two lamps with dim bulbs in them. Stained bathtub. No comforter on the bed just sheets. Iron but no ironing board. Absolutely horrific. It was midnight so I fell asleep, fully clothed on top of the sheets and couldn't wait to get out of there in the morning And the password-protected Wifi did not work. I used to think the Wyndham chain had quality standards. Not anymore. This is the second time in a week, that I wished I could've walked out of a Wyndham property. read more

I feel weird even giving this place 1 star. It was not a good experience. I checked in and checked out immediately. The Travel Lodge lobby was closed so I checked in at the Days Inn. The surroundings were not well kept and the place seemed almost deserted. The sign in the lobby clearly stated that they didn't allow cannabis smoking on the property, yet someone walked right passed me and the hotel manager and was clearly smoking weed. My room had a weird smell and I did not feel comfortable sitting down anywhere. My usual hotel in Downtown Silver Spring was booked along with all my back ups. This place had availability so I booked it...and pre-paid. Big mistake because I couldn't get a refund. I do not recommend this hotel at all. read more

What we experienced was absolutely nothing like the photos, in fact, I wish I could give this hotel 0 stars. For starters, the actual Travelodge lobby was closed down and the door read to go to the Days Inn lobby to check in/out. Secondly, the guy at the front desk made me and my friend uncomfortable and when I asked for a nonsmoking room, he asked why I didn't smoke and was creepy & flirtatious towards me. After we got to our second room (the first one was horrid & the doorframe seemed burnt to a crisp), I called the front desk and a nice lady picked up and said we could get a refund. I returned to the Days Inn front desk with the room key and as I left, the same creepy guy was laughing at us. An absolutely horrible experience. In fact, it was almost laughable. read more

First room i was put in was a smoking room, this room smelled more of black mold than stale cigarettes. The smell was enough for me to ask for a room change however there was also no refrigerator inside of this room, stains on the sheets, and exposed electrical outlets in the room. Once i was placed into a new room i was hopeful, seeing that this was much more well kept (besides for the scary fact that it was stuffed away in a corner near a maintenance closet. By night time however i realized this is room was just as bad. Zero, and i mean zero places to plug anything as far as a phone charger into, lamp with 2 outlets built in that DO NOT work, 1 gfi near the shower where the hair dryer and coffee machine are plugged into, and 1 plug on the entry wall that doesn't work as well. Im an electrician and had my tools with me, took a quick look and realized the plug only had 67 volts lol, not my job to fix though. The worst part of this whole experience still has to be the fact that the room had NO HOT WATER, at night i attempted to shower, ended up with a film of soap left on my body as the water was too cold to rinse off, in the morning i awoke, used the coffee machine to brew not coffee, but HOT WATER to mix into some of the cold water to make a sink bath tolerable. Hair and face in the sink and body in the shower. Also anytime i looked outside at night i would see multiple rats on the lower level scurrying around. I brought all of these details to the attention of the front desk and they wrote it down on a piece of paper, kind of chuckled like they did when i asked for my first room to be replaced, then did nothing to amend the situation STAY FAR AWAY! read more

I usually don't get to up in arms about hotel rooms, I just like to be able to watch a bit of TV and get some sleep. I was visiting the NIH w/ my daughter and I told my wife to just book us something cheap. Why'd I do that? This place is probably the worst I've ever been to. The a/c unit is crazy loud. There's one set of stairs in the weirdest location. The TV is a staticky mess and unwatchable. The wifi is nonexistant. I've had to have my room keys activated everytime we've come back from being out. The room is infested. Our last night here I had to take out a family of bugs, probably roaches, w/ the alarm clock (see the picture), I just hope I don't take any stowaways home w/ me in my luggage. Do yourself a favor, skip this place until they bulldoze it, set off some bug bombs, and rebuild from the ground up. read more

Booked through chase travel. We were traveling with a 4 month old and requested a king bed to co-sleep. When we arrived we were given two full beds with a door that was busted into and not locking correctly. When we told them they proceeded to give us an OCCUPIED room of another guest, then the 3rd room was an "upgrade" again to a smaller room with 2 beds up 2 flights of stairs in a back corner that smelled of weed. We decided to go to a nicer hotel for the safety of our family. They refused to refund it since we got "upgraded" to a bigger room. It They should be ashamed of the service they provide. They most likely only stay open due to situations like these where they can rob people. Would easily give zero stars and should have considered others reviews. read more

I am staying here for three weeks due to a job. Employer made the booking, so apparently price was a big issue. The positives: mattresses seem new-ish and free of vermin. Water gets pretty hot. A/C unit seems to be in good repair and is not too noisy. Free WiFi seems to work most of the time. Locks on door work. That's about it. Walls and towels are paper thin. Room lighting is horrible. Where the wallpaper is peeling it has been stapled on. No plug in the sink drain. Housekeeping has forgotten to leave towels (such as they are) more than once, and has yet to replenish the coffee. No channel guide for the TV, but reception is so poor, it doesn't much matter anyway. Towel bar fell off the wall the first time I used it. Room is dated, barely adequate, but seems secure and relatively clean. Lobby looks to have been imported from an abandoned hotel in the Ukraine. I don't know what my employer is paying for this room, but I would have kept shopping. I have two and a half more weeks in this room, so may update this review as time goes by. I have stayed in worse places - while deployed to Afghanistan. read more

Worst customer service i've ever experienced in my life. Recently had my mom prereserve a room for a few friends and I as we aren't 21 and they wouldn't give us the room and told us to leave. After multiple attempts of my mom trying to contact them with results of them hanging up, we had no choice but to leave and get reimbursed for the suite. We thought it would be a nice place to stay after a show at the fillmore but instead we were forced to drive 2 hours back home with heavy rains at 12am. They were very disrespectful and inconsiderate to us and other customers we've seen go in there. Would not recommend this poor excuse of a motel to anyone, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. There's a Days Inn nearby the Travelodge, if you have to stay the night somewhere try there, couldn't be worse than Travelodge. read more

I had booked it for a whole week and had to cancel my reservation after seeing the room, the carpet was dirty and coming up, there was only one small soap bar to shower, walls were dirty, and the worst was the bed bugs that I noticed on the walls and on the white sheets. Horrible. Shower fills up with sewer backup whenever another room flushes the toilet or showers. A mouse in the room chewed through several closed bags of chips and left droppings. There's moldly peeling wallpaper. Dirty blankets. The room's supposed to sleep 5, room has 2 beds &hotel has no cots. The room stinks. No pool. The wifi's bad. Motel is between a nice neighborhood in DC, and a hip area of Silver Spring, so I thought it would be fine. My heart sank a little when I saw that the desk clerk was behind bulletproof glass. The lobby was the most stark, unwelcoming hotel lobby I've ever been in. And my room, when I got the door unstuck and walked in, was the shabbiest I've ever been in. The towel rack had been pulled off the wall at some point, leaving two ragged holes in the wall and no place for me to hang my towel. The bathroom ceiling looked like someone's weekend DIY plastering and caulking attempt. There was a chunk of porcelain missing from the toilet tank. The one and only available electric outlet was attached to the desk lamp across the room from the bed, so there was no having my phone next to me at night to tell the time, which I needed since the digital clock in the room had a partly burned-out display that only showed random red lines instead of entire numbers. The useless hair dryer got hot (very very hot) but didn't actually blow air. The useless electronic safe in the doorless "closet" had a dead battery. The furniture was haphazardly arranged in the room, and was so visibly dirty and ripped up that I refused to sit on the chairs. The carpet, by the looks of it, hadn't been shampooed since the 90s. Some of the other guests looked like drifters and long-term residents, and there was a vague air of meance about the place - I took absolutely all my valuables with me during the day when I was out of the room. I could go on, but I'm getting writer's cramp. Oh yeah, there were roaches too, little cute baby ones. The only things that weren't nasty were the linens, which did seem clean though they were none too soft; the fact that it was dead quiet both nights of my stay; and the proximity to the Silver Spring metro stop. It was also in close proximity to several real hotels, and I will stay in one of those instead next time I'm in Silver Spring. This motel is basically a suburban flophouse, it's not even run by the Wyndham company (so says a sign prominently displayed behind the bulletproof glass), and has no business advertising itself to business travelers or families. read more

If you book via a 3rd party site (Priceline, Hotwire, Orbitz), if you specify non-smoking (I mean, who doesn't want non-smoking these days?), this hotel will automatically assign you a SMOKING room. I called (as indicated in the instructions) and they refused to give me a non-smoking room. There's no way this cheap hotel is full tonight: they're simply saving their non-smoking rooms for people who book directly. Terrible. I went elsewhere. read more
