I'm extremely glad I only had to stay one night because this place is awful, To cut it short I'll just list the problems 1. The rooms are poorly finished with scratch marks and loose bolts and wallpaper 2. Poor WiFi connection 3. Very poor tv connection (you won't be able to watch a thing) 4. Lady at the front desk was a smart ass and rude

Bad outlet in the second room, only way to charge my phone was to unplug the hair dryer near the sink

First room i was put in was a smoking room, this room smelled more of black mold than stale cigarettes. The smell was enough for me to ask for a room change however there was also no refrigerator inside of this room, stains on the sheets, and exposed electrical outlets in the room. Once i was placed into a new room i was hopeful, seeing that this was much more well kept (besides for the scary fact that it was stuffed away in a corner near a maintenance closet. By night time however i realized this is room was just as bad. Zero, and i mean zero places to plug anything as far as a phone charger into, lamp with 2 outlets built in that DO NOT work, 1 gfi near the shower where the hair dryer and coffee machine are plugged into, and 1 plug on the entry wall that doesn't work as well. Im an electrician and had my tools with me, took a quick look and realized the plug only had 67 volts lol, not my job to fix though. The worst part of this whole experience still has to be the fact that the room had NO HOT WATER, at night i attempted to shower, ended up with a film of soap left on my body as the water was too cold to rinse off, in the morning i awoke, used the coffee machine to brew not coffee, but HOT WATER to mix into some of the cold water to make a sink bath tolerable. Hair and face in the sink and body in the shower. Also anytime i looked outside at night i would see multiple rats on the lower level scurrying around. I brought all of these details to the attention of the front desk and they wrote it down on a piece of paper, kind of chuckled like they did when i asked for my first room to be replaced, then did nothing to amend the situation STAY FAR AWAY!

How I deal w/ unwanted visitors in my Travelodge room!

I usually don't get to up in arms about hotel rooms, I just like to be able to watch a bit of TV and get some sleep. I was visiting the NIH w/ my daughter and I told my wife to just book us something cheap. Why'd I do that? This place is probably the worst I've ever been to. The a/c unit is crazy loud. There's one set of stairs in the weirdest location. The TV is a staticky mess and unwatchable. The wifi is nonexistant. I've had to have my room keys activated everytime we've come back from being out. The room is infested. Our last night here I had to take out a family of bugs, probably roaches, w/ the alarm clock (see the picture), I just hope I don't take any stowaways home w/ me in my luggage. Do yourself a favor, skip this place until they bulldoze it, set off some bug bombs, and rebuild from the ground up.

A Subway sandwich shop is attached to the hotel. This is what normally greets hotel guests at the bottom of the stairs by the Subway.

And we never really heard other guests (although, I suppose it's possible the rooms on either side of us were not in use). We both slept well (as well as we could given the time difference) and I was happy to note that the window shade did a decent job of blocking out the light. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Having the kitchenette was a nice feature to have. My main points for not giving a full 5 stars are: the bathroom door was hard to close and open fully; and the breakfast felt a little lack luster to me, but at least it meant I didn't have to go far to get a bagel.

The pros: Easy access from 495 and New Hampshire Ave (MD…read more650). Digital key access was available. Breakfast had some nice options for build it yourself waffles or breakfast sandwiches with sausages and egg patties, plus hard boiled eggs. Pool, gym, laundry and conference room are available. Rooms have a nice kitchenette with microwave, full sink, dishwasher, plates, cups, bowls, and utensils, plus a sponge and dishwashing liquid. Plenty of room to spread out. There's a nearby Safeway if you need groceries. Parking was easy. The cons: The bed was uncomfortable for my wife, she kept tossing and turning. The flat sheet was a weird sheet/thin comforter combo which wasn't tucked in properly and was uncomfortable after a few hours. The room thermostat did not work as programmed. We set it for 66 to sleep but when we woke up groggy at 3, it had only gone down to 71. We turned it off and on, plus used the fan feature, no difference. The room vent is located by the kitchen, not the bed, so keep that in mind. The bathroom door slides, is heavy and does not have a true handle as it can retract fully in the wall. Based on that lack of handle, it was occasionally difficult to close and open. Due to the time, we did not want to try to switch rooms as we had to leave for a family obligation in a few hours in the morning. To the hotel's credit, they reached out immediately after I did an internal survey. They said to not hesitate to contact the front desk as it's staffed 24 hours. I appreciate them hearing my concerns.

However, it worked for what we needed and I *almost* went full 4 stars to balance out the hate based on our mostly positive experience. So, traveling with my brother who booked this hotel through Airbnb. He thought he was booking a private condo or apartment space only to find out post-booking it was a hotel. We arrive and...it's not bad. I'm scanning these reviews while he's checking us in as we realize where we're staying and I'm nervous. But, the lobby is clean and modern, the staff is friendly, the parking is good (though pricey, but this is suburban DC). It is noticeably muggy in the elevator and hallways and since so many reviews describe the rooms as being hot I'm worried. But in the room, I crank the AC and it quickly cools things off. Our stay in the room for 3 days is consistently cool. In room fridge works properly. Wifi works. Water pressure is good, though it takes a moment for the water to get hot. If you plan on eating on site it's too pricey to be worth it, especially since you're in walking distance of almost anything you'd want to eat. We were here to see several shows at the Fillmore and it's steps from the hotel. This worked out great. No uber, no parking costs. I'd stay here again if seeing shows at the Fillmore. Price is solid/average. Location is fantastic. The hotel smells musty, old, faint cigarette odor. Rooms were fine, beds were comfortable and had great bedding, AC worked. It was quiet at night. It felt safe throughout. A solid 3 hotel that could use some upgrades.

But the lobby is nice, and the Mica restaurant has some pretty good food, including a great crab cake sandwich. The staff was very friendly and helpful in the lobby, but the restaurant bar seemed to have a lot of either new or uncaring staff. Things like placemats, silverware, and drink refills seemed to be an afterthought unless one of the more senior people reminded the other staff to do it. This location does have a concierge lounge, but I don't think the food compares to a Marriott. For instance, at dinner, they had one option (potstickers one night, fried wontons the other), instead of having a few options to choose from. On the flip side, this was a very inexpensive hotel given the area and amenities.

Housekeeping is awesome, they somehow cleaned our room and our belongings were safe! Thank you housekeeping for being amazing! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner whenever you want. The buffet is great, it's a better deal than eating out at most places. The front desk staff are so happy you are there, they make sure you have whatever you need to enjoy your stay. We left shopping bags filled with clothes, expensive clothing. Housekeeping staff, and front desk staff quickly located and secured our lost and found items. We have everything back and we are so grateful for their wonderful kindness and honesty. I strongly recommend the Sheraton Silver Spring Hotel when you want to be in the middle of a wonderful family area. They are walking distance to dozens of great choices for food, shopping and fun cultural activities!
