I understand systems are not connected everywhere, however when you call the Marriott number, make an adjustment, receive a confirmation and then show up to a cancelled room? Not a great experience. And then to simply be told, "Unfortunately...there is nothing we can do" There is ALWAYS something you can do. And...to top it off, the manager did not want to come out and deal with it...just resent out the poor front desk associate. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful, the Bistro was perfect for coffee and breakfast and parking was easy in the attached garage. Nice economical hotel in the center of everything in Silver Spring. You can't go wrong with the location which is in walking distance to everything downtown. My checkin was efficient but quick. All I knew was the checkout time. Nothing about the hotel, gym (until I asked), bistro, or even the elevators to take to my room. Very odd. Hopefully this isn't a regular thing for guests. Hotel is clean on the inside. Lots of meeting rooms and common space. Rooms are clean with the standard layout. Some towels need to be replaced. One elevator is still out. Watch out for the tricky entrance which is on the 3rd floor. read more

The bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly and had hair in the shower and around the toilet on the floor. I had to have my linen changed because there was a red spot on the comforter and the air stopped working in the room in the middle of the night. It was extremely hot but I could not call downstairs bcz no one was at the front desk. I came in from a party late and the only two people downstairs were the security guy and a guy with long locs. I had asked for a late check out and they said that I would have to wait until the morning and call. This was the worst if I have to wake up and ask for a late checkout bcz no one is at the front desk to take my request and to fix the air. read more

The staff are generally great and the rooms are comfortable. HOWEVER...we spent the night her last Friday and Saturday and this Friday and Saturday to attend local events. Last Saturday after a long day we returned to find that we could not get into our room because the batteries on the door needed to be changed. 30 min later we finally get in our room. Then last night after another long day the SAME THING happens. A different room and a different door that needs to have its batteries replaced before we can get in. So this happened in two different rooms during a four day stay over two weekends. Tonight. Another long day. On my way out of the hotel I requested maid service. I was told it would be taken care of. When I returned to my room this evening, tired and ready for bed, my room was as I had left it. No maid service. Again, all of the staff people have been great. But I can't recommend this place until they replace ALL door batteries BEFORE they wear out and generally get their act together. Super frustrating. read more

I would not stay here again. I rented a room for just one night so I could binge films at a film festival sponsored by AFI Silver. Top complaints about the hotel: Insufficient sound proofing between rooms (especially through those connecting doors, where your neighbor's sound is right in your room) and overly perfumed sheets (or maybe someone doused in cologne used the sheets right before me?). When checking in, I got hit with a mandatory $50 deposit for incidentals. It irks me to get charged that when I'm here to sleep and get myself back to the theater and Panera, both of which have good cheap food. Other issues: I found the room temperature controls difficult to adjust. I have not run into that problem when staying at other hotels. Also, when staying at nicer hotels, I've seen better curtains or systems for blocking out light. That was not too much of a problem because I brought a sleep mask, but it's too bad I didn't think to bring earplugs for the sounds from the next room. Here is one last note on my first impression of the hotel. I arrived on foot and saw a pedestrian entrance. The sign indicated that it was accessible only by checked-in guests with room cards. So, on a night when my feet were tired, I walked many extra steps to access the garage entrance to the hotel. I asked the front desk staff about the issue and they said they could have buzzed me in that first entrance that I saw. Anyhow, the hotel can definitely improve their signage for pedestrians at that Fenton Street entrance. read more

I used this location as a pit stop from Toronto to Myrtle Beach. It is a decent location and the hotel is clean which is harder to find these days. Where I felt it lacked was the service side of things where we needed feather free options for my daughter's that was difficult to get. We also ran into an issue requesting bedding for the pull out as well when we checked in. It took a while to get to our room and when we asked for two pillows, we only received one and when we prompted for another one since I didn't want my daughter's to share a pillow we were told that there were no other pillows available. If the hotel was packed, I'd find that reasonable, difficult to swallow, but reasonable. The hotel wasn't packed. So I felt that our needs weren't being met at the time. The last issue was the thermostat in our room wasn't working and the room was hotter than any of us found comfortable. We called down and were eventually moved to another room which made the night easier to sleep through. There are pros to the location, but there were gaps in the service that I found hard to overlook at times. read more

I booked this place since it is near my neurosurgeon, as i have a chronic neurological illness. Checked in last night late...came into a room with ketchup stains on the coach and toddler fingerprints over the main mirror. Staff seemed friendly and not wanting to be a hard ass, I asked for a credit for food only and not on my bill and not be moved. I was told by two people that I had the credit at the bar, left and came back to eat later and was told by staff at bar there was no credit. Ok. Walked back to front desk and was told by front desk person her hands are tied and can't issue a credit until manager is back tomorrow. Room was never cleaned and I never got a credit! I was never told that construction is going on and as a result, I was unable to drive to the front of the hotel. It was a 95° day. I'm a senior citizen and I had luggage. It was grossly inconvenient to say the least to try to even access, or enter the hotel, therefore. Secondly, their website and promotional materials make it sound as if they have on-site parking. They do not. One has to use one of several public parking spaces around the hotel and pay at a kiosk. Promotional materials touted daily parking rates for $21.75 and the implication was that it was on site. At a minimum, this is misleading and mis representational. Thirdly, the place is not clean, the elevators were not working properly, carpeting was beyond soiled, the door lock for my room did not work properly, and this is fairly critical. And further, as much as I am empathetic toward homeless people, and their plight, the hotel has many homeless people sleeping very close to the entrance to the hotel. I would highly recommend lodging elsewhere. Furniture in my room was completely marred and nicked. In general the place looks tired and is not kept up. Go elsewhere. read more

Baffling entry upon arrival. Buzzer control panel to elevator vestibule. Front desk to check in is on the third floor. There you find out the parking is around the corner on the fifth floor of a public parking garage. I was told $1.25 in and out fees until 11PM. Find out the next day upon trying to leave the garage that it's actually $1.25 PER HOUR from 7AM until 11PM. When asked for clarification at front desk told, "Oh, she wasn't clear, I'll speak with her." Gee, thanks. Coffee and snack and cocktail bar only open limited hours. Rooms and lobby sitting area decor pleasant and decently appointed. Room A/C controls broken so full blast all the time. Convenient location. Desk staff hospitality very inconsistent. read more

Back in Silver Spring, this was the closest Marriott property to my customer's office so that I could actually leave the rental car in the garage and walk it. And because they hand out a new ticket every morning, I only had to pay for parking on the two days that I actually needed the car! Three stars for a room on the tenth floor with a view of the parking deck. Not really many better views at this property but as views go, this was probably the best option. It's still a nice property and the staff are friendly and helpful. Two problems. The first was that my room had a connecting door. On the second to last night, there were two dudes in the next room who did not seem to understand that they were in a public place. They were chatty until about 11:30 or so, despite a few attempts to get them to shut up. The second was that there was a very weird squeaking sound every few minutes. It sounded like the housekeeping cart, but this was not when they were doing housekeeping. It mostly went away when I put on my headphones. Strange sound. I'll probably stay in this property again when I'm in the area, but I won't go for room 1020. read more

Stayed two nights here. Walls are paper thin, so even if your neighbors are being nice, you'll still hear them. However it was clean, tidy, well kept, and everyone who worked there was very friendly. It felt safe with their COVID precautions. The lobby was empty but there were plenty of dining options right out the front door in the downtown Silver Spring area if you wanted. I had to stay here for almost a week due to some housing complications. GREAT location, right across from whole foods and everything else you might need. Parking is reasonable and free on the weekends. The staff were very helpful, moved my room when the tv didn't work, and were patient with me constantly extending my stay by one night at a time. Only downside is that as others have mentioned you can hear everything that goes on in the adjoining room -- not precise words but definitely any conversation, laughter, etc. Annoying if you have loud or social neighbors. read more

For a Marriott hotel, this one does not represent the brand very well. We stayed here for two nights while in town for The Weeknd concert in DC. Although the staff were very friendly and accommodating, the hotel itself is in major need of repair. When you first arrive, be sure to park in the parking garage that is directly behind the hotel. There is very limited parking in front of the hotel and if you are lucky enough to find a spot, you will have to move quickly because it is only one hour parking. About the room.... There were several things wrong with our room. First, the shower drain was not draining water properly. At one point I was standing in the shower with almost a foot of water around my legs. It was a little freaky. The shower curtain and liner were both frayed out, stained, and not hanging properly on the hooks. Second, the thermostat was broken, or at least seemed broken. I was not able to adjust the temperature so we nearly froze to death when the AC was turned on. I had to get up and turn it off in the middle of the night because it was so darn cold. Third, the dead bolt lock on the door was not working. That's just not good. The only saving grace at this hotel is the staff. When I was walking in from the parking garage a man helped me carry all my luggage up to my room. He was so kind. The ladies at the front desk were usually always smiling and helpful when I asked a question. They also have a nice lounge with a patio where you can order drinks or food during the day. All in all, this isn't a bad hotel if you need a place to crash for one night. I wouldn't recommend staying here for multiple days. You will most likely encounter similar experiences and leave disappointed. read more

In town for a family baby reception. This is a cute hotel in a great location. Once you locate the parking on the side of the hotel on the 5th floor it's really nice. Really close to shops and restaurants. The room itself is very small compared to most of the rooms I have had but the nicely appointed furnishings and the nice staff makes up for this. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're in the area. There's lots to do between Dave and Busters and the movie theaters and restaurants that makes for a fun time. read more

We just spent five nights at this hotel and we are very happy with our choice. After reading several reviews we decided to take a chance and feel that this may be our choice from now when visiting the area. Let me start by saying that everyone in the staff is beyond nice. From the front desk to the people at the bistro to the housekeeper. Everyone is always helpful and smiling . The hotel is very well located across from a Wholefoods and CVS and surrounded by many places to eat. We did not need a car ( they do have a very big and easy to access garage if you have one ) since it is only a couple of blocks from the Metro abd easy to get to. The room was a good size and comfortable with a very good matress, a desk that can be pulled out and repositioned and a large loveseat and ottoman. Being able to log into my own Netflix account on their large TV was great and the wifi was easy to connect to and fast. The bathroom had a good shower and plenty of counter space for our toiletries. The room was kept clean with lots of towels and the coffee machine and fridge were a good touch. Highly recommend and will probably be back. read more

Upon arrival, this hotel was only at 3 Stars. We pulled up on the Fenton St., which is not a true front entrance to the hotel. I can't imagine arriving late after a long flight and not knowing to go around to the garage for the mall. They really need some clear signs. I followed the signs that they do have, but I was perplexed as i walked past a cafe/restaurant looking for the front desk. I walked up to a group of free standing desks that had what looked to be computers on them and stood there for awhile hoping that someone would show up. I still wasn't sure if it was the front desk until a woman came out 5 minutes later and told me. Anyway, once we parked our car in the garage around the corner, we were able to check in. The rooms were nice and clean and surprisingly quiet. There is a shuttle that runs until around 10:45 pm, that will pick you up and drop you off locally. This was especially nice because we didn't have to move our vehicle to go to our dinner reservations. The staff at the front desk are helpful and very polite. I think the hotel is slightly overpriced, but they might be doing that to keep out the riff raffs that hang out in the local shopping area. This is a good hotel. 4 Stars! read more

Stayed here for two nights . Really good stay . Me and my family shockingly had connected rooms so that was cool . The hotel is directly on the same block as places like burgerfi , cvs , a mall , Starbucks etc so that was what made it perfect for me . There was also a Whole Foods directly across the street . The only main issues i had with the hotel was that the windows didn't seem to open and we asked for toilet paper the morning we were checking out and we weren't provided any as promised . The night before that (Friday and Saturday ) the receptionist was very kind and she also provided us with a map of everything in the area without being asked which was nice of her . This is the perfect hotel for those traveling alone or with others because everything you need is right outside the doors . read more

We had to ask for replacement sheets because they were dirty upon arrival and the toilet handle kept flying off each time we flushed. Upon my arrival on Friday, May 20, 2022, the front desk clerk asked if I would like room service daily. I advised that I needed room service daily. On Sunday, May 22, 2022, I did not receive room service at all. When we left for graduation on Sunday, I saw a cleaning service associate on my floor at 11 am. When we returned at 130 pm, I saw another cleaning service associate on my floor however my room had not been cleaned at that time. I assumed they would get to it before I returned from dinner that evening. When I returned at 7 pm my room still had not been cleaned. I called the front desk and the young lady who answered advised that they were short-staffed, and some people had called off that day. She stated the cleaning staff was gone for the day, but she would have someone come up and remove the trash and bring clean towels. I left the room at about 730 pm and returned at 1030 pm and the trash and dirty towels were still in my room. I went down to the front desk and spoke to Mr. Thompson who reiterated they were short staff and several people called out and there was nothing they could do since all the staff was gone for the night. Mr. Thompson did credit the room for Sunday. However, that is unacceptable, it is unfathomable to me how you cannot accommodate your guest who have already paid for their stay but rather prepare rooms for newly arriving guests. I personally saw two cleaning staff on my floor on Sunday, so my room was intentionally left unattended despite being offered the service upon my arrival. I am a long-term Marriott rewards member and have traveled all over the world and have never experienced such deplorable service. Additionally, we ordered breakfast on Saturday morning and found hair in our food. The kitchen did give credit for one of the meals. Overall, this was my first ever unpleasant experience at any Marriott chain. read more

I'm a lifetime Marriott Platinum and I don't think I've had a worse experience at a Marriott-branded property in 10+ years. They are in the midst of upgrading their rooms. IF YOU VALUE YOUR SLEEP DO NOT GET AN OLDER ROOM - ONLY GET THE REFURBISHED ROOMS. I think that the mattress in our first room was 50 years old! Ended up with moving twice and had 3 rooms, all having problems. While the people there were really great to deal with and wanted to do things to make it right, there was just too many issues. And in the end, the final straw where I'm putting this review online is that the housekeeping staff did not close my door after cleaning. this was Thanksgiving Day and we were gone for 10 hours with my room OPEN and you could TELL it was open. Luckily nothing was missing. So at least until they get their act together and are done with more of their upgrades, STAY AWAY read more

The hotel is typical Courtyard, with friendly staff, most of whom speak English, clean rooms, easy parking and a safe location. The room prices are reasonable, high-speed internet access is reliable and the morning coffee was above average. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the Silver Spring Metro station where you can pick up the red line. There are scores of restaurants within a block of the hotel, and a Whole Food Market immediately across the street for those not in the mood for restaurant food. Parking is available on the 5th floor of the parking ramp behind the hotel, with a walking bridge connecting the hotel to the garage. The hotel has an excellent breakfast buffet, but it is a bit pricey ($18.00). read more

I love Marriotts. LOVE! And yes, I've got a bias towards this brand of hotels (I'm not sure why - nostalgia?). The hotel is impeccably clean, well kept and with a gorgeous lobby. The snack/mini-shop by the front desk was well stocked with a variety of items, sodas and waters, fruits and vegetables, candies and chips. Something for guests with pretty much any minor craving. The rooms are fairly spacious, with plenty of pillows. Bonus: they come with mini fridges by default (hurray!). When I walked into the room there was an overpowering scent of clean. It was like a Febreze commercial, except every single Febreze commercial all at once. An odd complaint, but the overpowering scent of cleaning product was enough to make the eyes water. But hey, at least I knew the room was zestfully clean! Another minor quibble: I had asked for a roll away bed (which was an option on the site when I reserved the room). However, the hotel does NOT offer roll aways despite what the site says. This caused a bit of an issue for us, but one we were able to work out (though one of our friends had to sleep on the floor -- which was a pretty big disappointment for us). Overall, it's a Marriott. It's in a great location (tons of shopping, restaurants within a short walk -- even a Whole Foods!). Room prices are more than reasonable, and the staff are ridiculously friend and accommodating. Not a bad hotel - not bad at all! I stayed here while in town with some friends to see a local concert. Aside from the fairly busy traffic in the area, the hotel was pretty easy to get into - and had a convenient parking garage attached to it (which at the time of this writing, was free). One odd thing? The lobby was not on ground level. Yes, you heard that right - street level is just an entry corridor, and the "lobby" level is "3". But wait, it gets weirder - if you parked in the aforementioned garage, the hotel level in the garage is *5*. It's all very confusing the first time you arrive. That said, the lobby was kept very clean and was fairly attractive, and the service was friendly. While I didn't eat there, the hotel bar / snacks area looked to be decent and not crazy over-the-top in pricing (although it's still hotel pricing, let's not kid ourselves). A downside is that the elevators to the room floors is card access, so you'll need to take your room key out every time you want to go up even a floor. I don't really get it, since the stairwells aren't locked, and the hotel is only a few stories tall. Also, to get to the street level, you need to use a different set of elevators from the room ones, forcing you to zig-zag through the lobby. Not that big a deal, but it is a minor inconvenience. Our room was nice, and very, VERY clean. No, I'm serious - when I walked in, it was like someone lobbed a smoke grenade filled with febreeze into the room before giving us the keys. It aired out quickly at least, but boy was that an overwhelmingly lavender experience. The beds were comfy, linen wasn't scratchy, and unlike other hotels I've been to, they actually gave the double beds an EVEN amount of pillows (4), instead of making couples fight to the death over who gets to use the extra. The wifi was free but must have been saturated when I visited, since it was all but worthless - even low quality youtube videos were choking. I'd come back again for sure - the hotel was comfortable, clean, and in a prime location for all the shops and whatnot in the area. read more

CVS and Whole Foods Market across the street, easy walking distance (2-4 blocks) to many other national chain stores and restaurants. What we didn't like: Housekeeping knocked on our door early a.m. and kept knocking until we finally said we weren't ready to check out. This hotel was just average. It is more a $79 per night hotel, not a $200. For the price paid I expected a lot more. There is no breakfast included - even the Hampton Inn puts on a little spread. The rooms are just adequately sized. There is a design flaw in that when you open the door, you automatically walk into the bathroom door. There is no real room for maneuver. Also the closet is tiny. Barely room to hang my 5 shirts. My real issue is with the heater. There is a thermostat and the heater is REALLY loud. In the middle of the night it would turn on and wake me up with the noise. It was light a plane taking off. It is so loud that you can not hear the TV over it. Also the entrance is badly designed. There are no stairs from the 3 floor lobby to street level. Just 1 elevator. And it takes forever because it is almost constantly being used. The hotel is well located,just a couple of minutes walk from a lot of places to eat. However I would recommend the Crowne Plaza or Hilton over this hotel. For those other reviewers who say that the beds are comfortable, they obviously haven't stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. read more

I was staying there the weekend of January 6th, 2018 and my friends had a hotel party. I had asked the front table to bring sheets for the pullout bed (for the suite) and they only brought BLANKETS. I didn't figure this out until I actually went to sleep so I was sleeping on a pullout couch with no comforter or anything. This hotel was a fair hotel. I enjoy Courtyards, but I felt as though this one was not as wonderful as others. The entryway was poorly designed, there was just enough room to open the door, and I felt as though it was a tight squeeze, not easy to move around. The room itself was a touch to narrow for the way the bed was, the room itself felt 95% bed. The fitness center was not actually the hotel fitness center, the first floor of the hotel is a gym, and the Courtyard sends their guests down there. It had very limited weekend hours, and I wasn't able to take advantage of it all, which was disappointing. With better hours, you can take advantage of the pool and equipment. Parking is not included, unless you leave on the weekend then it is free. The lobby cafe was not suited for a full breakfast group. The hotel itself is in a great location, with walking distance to an adorable downtown area. Great place to breakfast as the hotel is not. There appeared to be many things to do in this downtown area, and the location is ideal for Silver Spring events. read more

Had to be in Silver Spring area for work again, and this hotel is just perfect. Feels new, simply can't beat the location, there's a bar inside, and instead of a little fitness closet, you get access to a whole fitness club with a lap pool included! Free WiFi was quick, I love that there is actually a "guide" menu to the TV like you get at home so you can find stuff rather than channel surfing. I spent a lot of time sitting in the lobby working and it looked like there were quite a few people that were regulars there, doing the same thing, working from the lobby. The Metro station is right down the street, which was great to take into DC where I went to people watch for Halloween. Once I got there, I was SO glad I didn't drive because traffic looked insane. Whole foods is right across the street from the hotel, to grab some snacks and drinks to stock my fridge, but there were tons of restaurant options in walking distance. One is a few blocks away, but the driver will take you, but it's called "8407 Kitchen Bar" and I absolutely loved this place. Great food, great prices, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. It's right around the corner from the Discovery building. Hotel staff was warm and friendly. Will definitely stay here next time I'm back! read more

Not a good Courtyard, to say the least. On the plus side, the location is good. And for us, the price was right because we were using free nights. Had I been paying for it, I would not have been happy. 1) Service was, at best, mixed. The front desk employees were friendly enough, but that was only when they actually chose to staff the desk. Need to call them for anything? Be prepared to be on hold for several minutes. One morning, I went downstairs to buy something at the store. There was nobody at the front desk, and I waited a good five minutes before somebody shows up. The only reason anyone did come over was because one of us went over to the cafe to ask them to call somebody. I thought about just taking what I needed and leaving the coupon for a free item there. Warning: Someday, somebody's going to steal everything in the pantry. Including the wine and the cookies. And not the Oreos; I mean the good cookies. 2) Internet: When it works, you are limited to three connections per room. Since most rooms accommodate four people, you're always going to have at least one person not connected. Seriously, it's 2018. Internet access should not come at a premium. Of course, frequently, it didn't work. That required a call to the front desk, who would then have to call the off-site internet repair desk, who would then have to call you back. And that didn't work because, as explained above, nobody at the front desk follows through. When I hadn't heard back from the internet help people, I called the front desk again. Of course, they hadn't gotten around to calling the help people again. 3) Failure to follow through on requests: The internet above, or something as simple as asking for more towels. The bottom line: CYs aren't full-service hotels, but they're at least expected to be reliable. I'm Platinum with Marriott, but next time around, I think I'll stay at one of the Hilton properties across the street. read more
