I reserved a wheelchair accessible room with two beds online and then confirmed via phone later. When I arrived the roll-in shower had a four inch curb at the bottom and it was uphill to reach the shower. Management came to my room to inspect the shower and told me that they considered that to be a roll-in shower. I informed management that a roll-in shower has no encumbrances on the floor preventing the wheelchair from rolling into it. So the end result was that management could not provide any other rooms that would be considered ADA compliant. Three other items that were not ADA compliant were the height of the bed (30 inches), thermostat on wall adjacent to bed, and light fixtures that were difficult to turn on.

First let me state what is good about this, the Sheridan Silver Spring. The rooms are relatively clean and the beds are not the most uncomfortable you will ever sleep on. It has an adequate buffet for breakfast if you don't mind the same old, same old. The Starbucks in the lobby is quite nice and opens early enough and stays open late enough for most, if not all travelers. If this is all that concerns you as a paying guest you will be satisfied if not happy with your stay. However as a person who travels quite often I was sad to discover some deeply troubling issues which forces me to not recommend this hotel to any individual, family or group. The issue I found most disturbing involves the stunning lack of hot water over my three day stay. The first night after a rather long and tiring day I found the water to be barely warm enough to suffice. But I was so exhausted I did not make an issue of it. Sadly my forbearance was not rewarded. On the second night my group came back late after an even more grueling day of touring. As you can imagine all I wanted was a hot shower. Even a warm one would have sufficed. Unhappily all I got was ice cold water coming out of the taps. Naturally I called the front desk to ask for help. I was told by the courteous front desk attendant that the hotel was full and I could not have another room; something I did not ask for. What I asked for was for someone to come and fix the problem. Then I was told a very strange thing. The front desk attendant, once more courteously told me they do not have a night time engineer who can fix such problems. As I stated earlier I have traveled extensively both domestically and internationally. In all the hotels I stayed in the was always someone who could at least attempt to fix a problem. In some places they failed but those hotels always tried. For a hotel of over 400 rooms in the Washington D.C. area to not have a handyman on call is a major failure of service. I wish I could say this was the worst of my discoveries. The next morning I asked the other parties in our group with 14 rooms if they had hot water, they all said no. The complaints of freezing showers and "army showers" made our travel more difficult than it had to be if we had the necessities other hotels are able to provide. When I complained about this to the 'courteous' front desk attendant they told me they were working on the problem and hoped to solve it soon. If you are still reading this tale of troubling tidings you will not be surprised to know that this was not the worst thing I discovered about this hotel. When I talked to our tour guide about this he explained that he was furious and was submitting his recommendation that his company avoid this hotel again if at all possible. When I asked why I was told he had stayed at this hotel three months earlier and had the exact same hot water problem! There comes a point when the hotel staff's use of 'courtesy' is not courteous but a thin disguise for incompetence or malfeasance. This hotel knew about this particular problem for at least three months and I must assume, chose to continue to take bookings and money from people who suffered from discomfort that was totally unnecessary. All so they could get money knowing they could not deliver on the basic needs their decieved patrons had every right to expect. To add insult to injury all the rooms in our group, on at least two floors each received a letter that offered sincerest apologies and that their "engineers we're working diligently throughout the day to ensure that this issue was resolved immediately." They then actually wrote " your and your family's comfort is our number one priority." They even claimed that "the events were out of our control." And of course the letter finished off that they were "sincerely apologetic." I wish to remind that this was for a problem that they were aware of for at least three months if not longer. In truth this was just the most obvious and galling problem we had to deal with in our three-day stay. I suppose I could triple the length of this review if I was to give adequate space to the slightly less immediate problems the poor service and lack of quality this hotel let us suffer through. But I must figure that to add more would not truly add to your ability to judge this hotel based on this review. You may do as you wish of course. I myself will never stay at this location again and if a tour or convention I was booked with insisted on using the Sheridan Silver Spring I would find another tour or stay at a more competent and honest hotel during the convention. Thank you for your patience in reading through this review.

And we never really heard other guests (although, I suppose it's possible the rooms on either side of us were not in use). We both slept well (as well as we could given the time difference) and I was happy to note that the window shade did a decent job of blocking out the light. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Having the kitchenette was a nice feature to have. My main points for not giving a full 5 stars are: the bathroom door was hard to close and open fully; and the breakfast felt a little lack luster to me, but at least it meant I didn't have to go far to get a bagel.

Breakfast had some nice options for build it yourself waffles or breakfast sandwiches with sausages and egg patties, plus hard boiled eggs. Pool, gym, laundry and conference room are available. Rooms have a nice kitchenette with microwave, full sink, dishwasher, plates, cups, bowls, and utensils, plus a sponge and dishwashing liquid. Plenty of room to spread out. There's a nearby Safeway if you need groceries. Parking was easy. The cons: The bed was uncomfortable for my wife, she kept tossing and turning. The flat sheet was a weird sheet/thin comforter combo which wasn't tucked in properly and was uncomfortable after a few hours. The room thermostat did not work as programmed. We set it for 66 to sleep but when we woke up groggy at 3, it had only gone down to 71. We turned it off and on, plus used the fan feature, no difference. The room vent is located by the kitchen, not the bed, so keep that in mind. The bathroom door slides, is heavy and does not have a true handle as it can retract fully in the wall. Based on that lack of handle, it was occasionally difficult to close and open. Due to the time, we did not want to try to switch rooms as we had to leave for a family obligation in a few hours in the morning. To the hotel's credit, they reached out immediately after I did an internal survey. They said to not hesitate to contact the front desk as it's staffed 24 hours. I appreciate them hearing my concerns.

The check-in experience was 5 stars; friendly, courteous, professional. Our room was on the 6th floor and was a very quiet location. We never heard a peep from others. The bed was very comfortable. The room itself was smaller than what I'm used to for an IHG property, but it's one night. The main issue was that the property is older and in need of some TLC. The curtains had holes in them, and the bathroom was very small and outdated. It took quite a while for the water to get warm/hot in the shower, and the water pressure was non-existent. There was zero bathroom counter to put stuff on, we had to put stuff on the shelves instead. I used the provided Hairdryer, but a minute in, the smell set off the smoke alarm. There was no bathroom exhaust. Also, we kept looking for cups and the ice bucket, we found it shortly before checking out, located next to the bed on the bottom shelf of the bedside nightstand. Before checking out, we decided to hit up the included breakfast. Mostly everything was in stock and seemingly fresh. However, I had grabbed a yogurt from the refrigerator and it must have frozen and then thawed at some point, the texture was off, and inedible. They did have a good variety of options, including eggs, bagels, muffins, toast, biscuits, gravy, cereals, some fruit. Some of the furniture was observed with wear and tear, also there was some food abd crumbs on the floor, even though there was an attendant present. For one night this wasn't a bust, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer. I hope this property gets some attention. We walked to and from the Filmore and there are lots of interesting restaurants around.

However, it worked for what we needed and I *almost* went full 4 stars to balance out the hate based on our mostly positive experience. So, traveling with my brother who booked this hotel through Airbnb. He thought he was booking a private condo or apartment space only to find out post-booking it was a hotel. We arrive and...it's not bad. I'm scanning these reviews while he's checking us in as we realize where we're staying and I'm nervous. But, the lobby is clean and modern, the staff is friendly, the parking is good (though pricey, but this is suburban DC). It is noticeably muggy in the elevator and hallways and since so many reviews describe the rooms as being hot I'm worried. But in the room, I crank the AC and it quickly cools things off. Our stay in the room for 3 days is consistently cool. In room fridge works properly. Wifi works. Water pressure is good, though it takes a moment for the water to get hot. If you plan on eating on site it's too pricey to be worth it, especially since you're in walking distance of almost anything you'd want to eat. We were here to see several shows at the Fillmore and it's steps from the hotel. This worked out great. No uber, no parking costs. I'd stay here again if seeing shows at the Fillmore. Price is solid/average. Location is fantastic. The hotel smells musty, old, faint cigarette odor. Rooms were fine, beds were comfortable and had great bedding, AC worked. It was quiet at night. It felt safe throughout. A solid 3 hotel that could use some upgrades.

My husband and I reserved a room for a week in May 2026 to visit our daughter in Washington DC. We reserved a non-smoking room with a King bed. Here was our experience: 1. Check-in time was 3 pm. I arrived at 2:50 to see both a "Travelodge" and a "Days Inn" sign on the hotel, so there was some confusion as to whether or not we were in the right place. I was told I needed to come back in 10 minutes to check-in. So I sat in my car until 3 pm, but watched as the manager checked in another family and took them to their rooms while I waited. 2. Once I checked in, I was told that the room with the King bed was not available but they had a room with two doubles. I said that was fine as long as the cost was equal or less than the cost of a King room. The woman checking me in said that the cost was actually *higher* but that they would reduce the price just for us. FYI, I know from when I made reservations that the cost was the same. I don't like being lied to. 3. The check-in procedure took 10 minutes because the woman checking me in continued to have a private conversation (in another language) with someone else in the office while completing the process. I stood there and waited for them to end their conversation before she helped me. 4. First impressions of the room: Sheets and blankets on the bed but no bed cover. No pictures on the walls. They were blank. The floor was linoleum and sticky with stains. No rug. 5. There was no fridge. There was a closet with no doors. Felt a bit like a prison cell. 6. The TV was not connected to cable. It produced nothing but a fuzzy image. 7. The bathroom door didn't close and certainly didn't lock. 8. The tub was clogged. 9. When you turned on the shower head, water sprayed out from the back of the tub faucet, likely into the wall and beneath the tub (more on this below). 10. Towels were tiny, max of 4x2 feet in dimension. Not designed for adults. 11. Minimal lighting. Very dark room. 12. On our third night, I stepped out of the bathroom after taking a shower and my husband said that water had flooded the room from the bathroom. There was a puddle in the corner by the bathroom, seeping up from under the linoleum tiles. 13. The next morning, we went to the front desk to be given a new, non-flooded room. The clerk said that he would "see if anything was available". I explained that he HAD to change our room because he couldn't leave us in a flooded room. He said to return later to get new keys. We came back that evening and we were given a new room. 14. The new room didn't flood and the bathroom door closed, but the lights in between the two beds didn't work. 15. There were cockroaches in the room. We had to store our suitcases up high in the closet and on the single chair in the room to avoid having them crawl into our belongings. 16. Aside from this, the hotel was occupied by some people who seemed to have mental health issues. They yelled and talked loudly. The front office had several unhomed individuals sitting there every time I went in. We did NOT feel safe there. FYI, it was a busy weekend in DC as there were many college graduation ceremonies taking place. Moving to another hotel was not an option. Do not stay here. It is horrific, unclean and unsafe.
