The rooms definitely need some updating, as they look pretty naked compared to rooms of other chains. But the lobby is nice, and the Mica restaurant has some pretty good food, including a great crab cake sandwich. The staff was very friendly and helpful in the lobby, but the restaurant bar seemed to have a lot of either new or uncaring staff. Things like placemats, silverware, and drink refills seemed to be an afterthought unless one of the more senior people reminded the other staff to do it. This location does have a concierge lounge, but I don't think the food compares to a Marriott. For instance, at dinner, they had one option (potstickers one night, fried wontons the other), instead of having a few options to choose from. Today we checked out after staying all week for National Swimming Championships at the Universtiy of Maryland. The customer service is the best. Housekeeping is awesome, they somehow cleaned our room and our belongings were safe! Thank you housekeeping for being amazing! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner whenever you want. The buffet is great, it's a better deal than eating out at most places. The front desk staff are so happy you are there, they make sure you have whatever you need to enjoy your stay. We left shopping bags filled with clothes, expensive clothing. Housekeeping staff, and front desk staff quickly located and secured our lost and found items. We have everything back and we are so grateful for their wonderful kindness and honesty. I strongly recommend the Sheraton Silver Spring Hotel when you want to be in the middle of a wonderful family area. They are walking distance to dozens of great choices for food, shopping and fun cultural activities! read more

This is a pretty decent hotel, although there were a couple things I didn't like about it, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars. It was a nice hotel and the people at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. One of my complaints is that when you try to connect to the wifi, it says it's going to charge you, but for me they later just took it off my bill so I ended up not having to pay for it. I don't know if they do this for everyone or if it was because my company had booked my hotel stay for me that they made those arrangements, but I feel like free wifi is becoming so standard these days that you really need to offer it to compete with other hotels. And it's annoying to make guests worry about whether or not the charge will be taken off later-- might as well just tell them it's free in the first place. I had a few days in a row of company meetings in one of their hotel rooms. We had meals catered by the hotel and I was very pleased with their food and service. I'd give the food 4 stars. Their meeting rooms seemed to have some trouble with the A/C though because it was always too hot or too cold (and I mean FREEZING cold), but never just a comfortable temperature. We had to keep asking them to adjust it, multiple times, which was really annoying. I think overall it's a good hotel but there's just a few things that could be improved about it. read more

I have to tell you about my experience last Monday because it was horrible! I flew to Baltimore and was staying outside of Washington DC at a Sheraton in Silver Springs. I went to check in at 10:30pm and was told by the hotel that I did not have a room. They were at capacity and the manager, Collin Clarke, supposedly called someone at Egencia to let them know they needed to rebook me. Obviously, I was totally unaware of all of this nor in my years of using Egencia has this ever happened to me. So here I am 10:30pm without a hotel. I immediately called Egencia and the lady was extremely helpful and did go above and beyond to get me in a room. The area was mostly booked and it took us 45 minutes to find another hotel. The lady at Egencia said they had no record of the manager calling about this. So it is apparent that the manager knew he could get more money for a non-Egencia paying person and decided to cancel my room. I have been a loyal Marriott customer... with status...even a credit card and I am about to cancel everything because of this experience. read more

The front desk staff was friendly enough, and the breakfast buffet ($14 p/p) was typical, with terrible baked goods and a toaster that didn't really work, but good fresh fruit, freshed-squeezed OJ and good coffee. I didn't order anything from the kitchen. We ate dinner at Pho Tan Vinh. $153/night for king bed room, inc. wifi, self-parking , and taxes. The underground garage takes some maneuvering to get in and out of. The room was clean, but the bed was terrible. The mattress is beyond worn out, with two deep depressions and a hump in the middle. Laying down, I just sank in and couldn't even turn over without struggling. No back support. The pillows were too soft, and totally flat. Even with two of them stacked up, they provided no support for my head and neck. The sheets were scratchy. It was like the bed in a flophouse. Neither of the two bedside table lamps worked, and the rest of the light fixtures in the room and bathroom were fitted with blinding LED bulbs that were like looking into the sun. The LG TV worked fine, basic HD cable. My bad, I should have asked for a different room, but next time I'd look for a different hotel. read more

I came to Silver Spring for a month-long course at the AFI Silver Theater, so I chose this hotel due to proximity. I had really great customer service from a woman named Allison. She was one of the best receptionists I have ever encountered. From the moment I called to ask questions before I even arrived, to the multiple times I had to ask for either a room change, or coordination with my coworker to stay on the same floor, she was amazing. The other staff members were not as helpful, but Allison always came to save the day, with a smile on her face. I also really enjoyed the option to decline room cleaning, for a $5 voucher per day. Over the course of a month, I "made" a ton of money, which I was able to transfer into Starwood points. Room was comfortable, lobby was nice, and they are building a Starbucks downstairs, which will be convenient. Gym was small but the machines had built in TVs. Negatives: One room I stayed in, there were strange noises coming from behind the wall (and no, it was not honeymooners). Scared me, didn't sleep all night, but at least I was changed the next day to another room. I guess this wasn't the Sheraton's fault. Shuttle service was great, but would have been nice if they ran past 10 pm, especially on the weekends. The location is not as close to the metro as I would like, and the walk from the metro to the hotel was a little dark and isolated at night. One other negative, I had a package delivered to the hotel, and when I was not available to pick up the package from the front desk, they had it delivered to my room without asking me... which sounds good in theory, but it was weird to come back to my room and discover the package sitting on my bed. I am uncomfortable with people coming into my room if I am not expecting them, what if I have dirty clothes and valuables lying around??? read more

My review focuses on the banquet rooms and meeting rooms. There are enough unhappy guests who left comments on Sheraton's web site to convince me not to check into this hotel (kudos to management for posting the complaints). However, if you select this hotel, there is free parking directly next door on weekends. Self parking is currently $14 and valet parking is $20. Both should be free to hotel guests. I attended a fancy banquet that had approximately 60 guests. There were only two people assigned to the room and they were both servers. I never saw a hotel manager or event planner before or after the dinner. Several of us arrived early to help place programs on each chair and stayed after most guests had left. There were two meals available: Chicken or vegetarian lasagna. The chicken was moist. Hubby liked it. The vegetable lasagna had decent ingredients but the pasta was dry. There was barely any sauce inside or on top. The carrots presented better than they tasted. A butter knife wasn't enough to cut them. They weren't cooked enough. The squash soup was amazing. The cheesecake was delicious. A boring bread basket was also available. The dips weren't labeled on the serving table. It isn't fun identifying blue cheese when you expect Ranch dressing! The veggies were decent. The fruit selection was fresh and good. The server who removed my veggie plate dribbled dressing all over my jacket that was hanging on my chair. After I pointed out the mess, a server quickly wiped off my jacket and returned it to me. That was a cue for the event planner or manager to make an appearance and see how the event was going. The biggest detraction from the dinner was being in a sauna all evening. Thank goodness for having a program to use as a fan. The temperature was an issue that management knew about because an ugly air conditioner (presumably removed from one of the rooms) was placed in front of the entryway that the staff used all night. Management should have switched the event to another room since they knew that the temperature was off. I would not suggest using this venue for any gathering. I hope someone contacts the organization that wasted money and makes it right. read more

I reserved a wheelchair accessible room with two beds online and then confirmed via phone later. When I arrived the roll-in shower had a four inch curb at the bottom and it was uphill to reach the shower. Management came to my room to inspect the shower and told me that they considered that to be a roll-in shower. I informed management that a roll-in shower has no encumbrances on the floor preventing the wheelchair from rolling into it. So the end result was that management could not provide any other rooms that would be considered ADA compliant. Three other items that were not ADA compliant were the height of the bed (30 inches), thermostat on wall adjacent to bed, and light fixtures that were difficult to turn on. read more

I stayed here for a couple of nights for work. Very nice lobby set up with TVs and bar close by. They have a Starbucks attached to it (where the barista did not know how to make a iced mocha). Parking is reasonable for $14/day with in and outs allowed. It's close to some nice restaurants and movie theater. Their restaurant had some nice food. I like their breakfast buffet. Thick bacon, sausage, eggs, oatmeal, potatoes, cereal, breads/pastries, and some special are available with the buffet. Also beverages are included with it. Good value for less than $15. My room was far away from the elevator down a long curved hallway. Rooms a spacious. Nice layout with two double beds. The beds are high. Nice desk to work at. And they have a nice chair and foot rest. The one thing is that the bathroom is kind of small. The door is too big, where it hits the toilet. Overall, a nice hotel. read more

Didn't sleep at all due to soft squishy bed and THUMP THUMP THUMP from music into the early morning hours. Our room was literally shaking. We investigated and the ballroom is 2 floors below us. Didn't seem that loud on that floor but this building must be a perfect design to transfer sound and vibration to the rest of the building. In the hall outside our room it simply sounded like the music was 'all around us". It is nice and quiet here now. Wish we could stay to sleep, but gotta go. Hope not to be back. read more

For a Sheraton, this place misses the mark. Generally speaking, this place is an overpriced conference room with more wait staff than they know what to do with. The continental breakfast is standard at best and costs 15 dollars a day. For more bang for your buck and a cleaner and better maintained room, head up the street on Georgia to the holiday inn express. So I stayed here for one night following a one week stay at the holiday inn express right up the road on Georgia ave and what I can tell you is that the holiday inn express makes this place look laughable in comparison to the tight ship of efficiency that they run over there. While the staff at this Sheraton were all Super friendly, it seemed high class forced. While the folks at the holiday inn express were way more personable. The room I was given at this Sheraton location was on the ninth floor. Everything smelled like old damp baby diaper and old carpet. Okay, the exterior hallways look nice, and the room generally seemed okay, but something was a bit off, I couldn't put my finger on it. For a hotel that should've been a step above a holiday inn express it was definitely missing something. I found obvious water damage in the shower ceiling where it looked like maybe the bathroom above my room had experienced flooding at some point. While it doesn't explain the strange baby diaper smell in the hallway, it made more sense. Somebody attempted to paint over the water damage above me in the shower, but nothing can paint over what looks like soft drywall. Gross. Looking around, I also found little bits of black mold in the shower area which was not present in my holiday inn counterpart. Overall a lack luster experience for an "up scale" hotel spot. Additionally, while I could've gotten almost literally the same continental breakfast included in my room fare at the holiday inn express, here at Sheraton I pay 15$ a day for pretty much the same product. This place gets 3 stars because: 1: the rooms were standard, no bed bugs. 2: staff was friendly, early check in allowed. 0: while the basics were met, for the scale of hotel I thought this should be, it seemed like a lot of fluff and staff for a stay where some more attention could be payed to basic room and hall maintenance. 0:bathrooms had experienced obvious water damage at some point where someone attempted a cheap repair, successfully making me feel gross while o was trying to get clean. Also, black mold, hallways smelled funny. 0; to be clear, this place missed the mark because of its supposed market spot in branding, while I expected a middle upper class stay, what I found was some of the details that mattered and general maintenance felt neglected, while at the lower to mid range holiday inn express down the road delivered solidly in room basics and maintenance, guaranteeing that all the fluffy staff were not needed. read more

I am so disappointed in this hotel. It's really a shame as it has many of the things that could make a hotel wonderful: location, finances and a large, clean lobby. Unfortunately, they have a largely incompetent and totally unenthused staff that started our long weekend off on the wrong foot. Cold showers, repeated requests for more towels and giving us the completely wrong bill at check-out didn't do them any favors, either. The rooms was clean, but a huge, gross stain in the bedroom of the site where the mini fridge was (we moved it into the living space -- makes sense, right?) was gross and kept us from letting out 1-year-old crawl around the room. This Sheraton is a disappointment. On the positive side the staff is friendly and responsive. On the negative I had to change rooms due to a continuously running toilet only to be put in a room with a toilet that didn't fill. They don't have printers in their business center area, and overall the hotel is very worn, though by no means threadbare. The bed itself and too are fine though not exceptional. First let me state what is good about this, the Sheridan Silver Spring. The rooms are relatively clean and the beds are not the most uncomfortable you will ever sleep on. It has an adequate buffet for breakfast if you don't mind the same old, same old. The Starbucks in the lobby is quite nice and opens early enough and stays open late enough for most, if not all travelers. If this is all that concerns you as a paying guest you will be satisfied if not happy with your stay. However as a person who travels quite often I was sad to discover some deeply troubling issues which forces me to not recommend this hotel to any individual, family or group. The issue I found most disturbing involves the stunning lack of hot water over my three day stay. The first night after a rather long and tiring day I found the water to be barely warm enough to suffice. But I was so exhausted I did not make an issue of it. Sadly my forbearance was not rewarded. On the second night my group came back late after an even more grueling day of touring. As you can imagine all I wanted was a hot shower. Even a warm one would have sufficed. Unhappily all I got was ice cold water coming out of the taps. Naturally I called the front desk to ask for help. I was told by the courteous front desk attendant that the hotel was full and I could not have another room; something I did not ask for. What I asked for was for someone to come and fix the problem. Then I was told a very strange thing. The front desk attendant, once more courteously told me they do not have a night time engineer who can fix such problems. As I stated earlier I have traveled extensively both domestically and internationally. In all the hotels I stayed in the was always someone who could at least attempt to fix a problem. In some places they failed but those hotels always tried. For a hotel of over 400 rooms in the Washington D.C. area to not have a handyman on call is a major failure of service. I wish I could say this was the worst of my discoveries. The next morning I asked the other parties in our group with 14 rooms if they had hot water, they all said no. The complaints of freezing showers and "army showers" made our travel more difficult than it had to be if we had the necessities other hotels are able to provide. When I complained about this to the 'courteous' front desk attendant they told me they were working on the problem and hoped to solve it soon. If you are still reading this tale of troubling tidings you will not be surprised to know that this was not the worst thing I discovered about this hotel. When I talked to our tour guide about this he explained that he was furious and was submitting his recommendation that his company avoid this hotel again if at all possible. When I asked why I was told he had stayed at this hotel three months earlier and had the exact same hot water problem! There comes a point when the hotel staff's use of 'courtesy' is not courteous but a thin disguise for incompetence or malfeasance. This hotel knew about this particular problem for at least three months and I must assume, chose to continue to take bookings and money from people who suffered from discomfort that was totally unnecessary. All so they could get money knowing they could not deliver on the basic needs their decieved patrons had every right to expect. To add insult to injury all the rooms in our group, on at least two floors each received a letter that offered sincerest apologies and that their "engineers we're working diligently throughout the day to ensure that this issue was resolved immediately." They then actually wrote " your and your family's comfort is our number one priority." They even claimed that "the events were out of our control." And of course the letter finished off that they were "sincerely apologetic." I wish to remind that this was for a problem that they were aware of for at least three months if not longer. In truth this was just the most obvious and galling problem we had to deal with in our three-day stay. I suppose I could triple the length of this review if I was to give adequate space to the slightly less immediate problems the poor service and lack of quality this hotel let us suffer through. But I must figure that to add more would not truly add to your ability to judge this hotel based on this review. You may do as you wish of course. I myself will never stay at this location again and if a tour or convention I was booked with insisted on using the Sheridan Silver Spring I would find another tour or stay at a more competent and honest hotel during the convention. Good: The best darn bed that I've slept in. I even loved the body pillows in the bed. Starbucks coffee included in the room. I wish I got more than one of those mini creamers you can get at the supermarket. Free bottled water in the room (two out of three of the bottles are free). Just don't take the large Dasani for four dollars because you're robbing yourself. Nice rewards program via SPG. Check it out. Bar with reasonably priced cocktails in the lobby. I saw the prices for drinks in DC and I'm like woof, lol. I planned on going when I come back from DC but it looked like it was closed (around 1am). Near downtown and the metro station. Gorgeous lobby and great customer service at the front desk. You don't have to wait in line to check out at the front desk. You can call them from the room phone to check out and leave the keys on the desk in the room. Bad: Lipstick all over my blackout curtains. Ick. Blackout curtains didn't "black out" the room all of the way. Sunlight ruins my sleep and I'm not a morning person, so yeah. Wifi is not free. It's 2015, so this really bothers me. Thank God my phone plan allows me to make a personal hotspot when necessary. Very limited parking. I don't understand why parking is so crappy at hotels. There is a selection for little cars and for trucks/vans/suv. What is you have a regular sedan? I parked in the small car area and I was like whatever, lol. The car was fine after I checked out. Overall it was a good experience, but I'm more than likely going to stay somewhere else because of the bad things I mentioned above, unless I'm on a tight budget. I stayed here on a recent trip to the area to visit a client.and after having stayed at many Sheraton's for work purposes this one was disappointing. First off I believe the hotel is suppose to be a non smoking hotel; however, the room I initially got had a pretty detectable smoke smell. I did ultimately get switched to a different room but even then it was just ok. The room itself looked old with the exception of the bed and a couple of the usual sheraton amenities. Food at the restaurant downstairs was sooo slow, we had dinner/breakfast there just because we didn't have time to venture out and each time we had to flag someone down just to get anything. If we weren't the ONLY ones in the restaurant I'd be more understanding but we were literally the only people eating, so I have no idea what the holdup was. Just a quick review because I was there for a quick second - but wanted to give props where props were well deserved... I had a conference here this month. I did not know what to expect because what you see on the outside is not what is on the inside. They must have undergone renovations recently, as once you are inside - it looks much newer than it does on the outside. The meeting was held on the 4th floor in two of the large conference rooms. One room was for mingling and drinks, and then an hour later we were moved to another room for the presentation and meal. The wait staff was very accommodating and attentive. I was not drinking that evening, but no one's glass was ever more than half-full throughout the evening. The bread was good - I had 3 rolls. Yes - 3. Obviously I am on a high-carb diet (?!). The salad was pretty good, main course was fine (I just had the sides - not in the mood for the beef that evening...), and dessert was HUGE but tasty. Everything was well presented and looked clean. The bathrooms were quite well designed - excellent renovation - and very clean as well That's all I have to say. read more

I am a working mother and a frequent traveler. I had traveled overnight to get to DC in the morning for meeting from the west coast. When I arrived to the hotel, I was not able to check in and the staff was rude, unfriendly, and unable to answer my concerns. Since my room wasn't ready, I asked them for where I could use a breast pump privately (ie not in a public bathroom) and they didn't have any response. Nobody knew what to do. I waited about a half an hour while they figured out what could be done and the meeting I was scheduled to attend went on without me. When a room was finally ready, it wasn't the room I had requested. As I checked in the front desk attendant didn't even break a smile, make eye contact with me, or provide any additional information about the hotel facilities. My room was very cold, and my heater in my room didn't work. Although I had sent the heater to 78, it never went past 65. The only person on staff that was actually helpful to me during my two-day staff was the doorman. I would not stay at this hotel again, and it definitely did not meet my expectations. read more

I'm on the positive side of the ledger, big time. A solid 3.5-star hotel experience for a 3-day weekend with our small dog. Scored a reasonable rate on a Cherry Blossom weekend (NOT easy!). Staff was universally friendly and helpful, even in the midst of dealing with several large groups of guests and weekend events. From working out details of our accommodations, parking, etc., without exception each was attentive, positive, and efficient (yes, a rare trifecta ANYWHERE, but unequivocally true for this stay). We found the place to be clean, our suite was spacious, the garage convenient, and the breakfast was a welcome perk. Caveat: if you tend to caffeinate yourself first thing (Starbucks coffee in the room) procure some extras from the housekeeping staff (you'll find 2 in the room) -- at the lobby restaurant there was NO to-go coffee (i.e. china service only at tables, no takeout cups). Caveat #2: Having stayed over a Friday and Saturday night, I'd recommend staying on a higher floor, or CLOSER to the elevator (as we did on 5) to avoid the pulsating cacophony of parties in the event spaces (below the rooms further down the hall). I called RIGHT back no answer. I left a message. I have not been called back since. Do not leave items in this hotel as they will not be returned. Wow, the new lobby is beautiful! After watching the transformation over the months of June and July as the Crowne Plaza had a complete renovation to become the Sheraton Silver Spring, I am extremely impressed with the results. The new decor is modern and contemporary, and the new lobby layout allows for several casual lounge seating areas. I have not actually stayed in the hotel so this is not a review of the services, however I pass through the lobby on a daily basis and I can't wait to try out the new bar and restaurant. I would definitely consider having a business event here now, which I would never considered before. The staff is also now very friendly, I am always greeted by well dressed employees that exemplify good service. It is definitely worth checking out! read more

I enjoyed the stay. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. The room was large. There was a desk, comfy lounging chair, and a desk chair. The AC worked well and had a thermostat. The bed was comfortable. The food service was prompt and served quality food. I checked out at 7:00am to go to a meeting that was scheduled to last for 5 hours. My flight was scheduled for late in the afternoon. My meeting ended after only one hour. I had no place to hangout. I went back to the hotel and asked if they would undo the checkout and let me return to the room until the noon checkout time. They agreed and was pleasant about it. This hotel definitely could use an update. My biggest complaint - COLD SHOWERS! The water literally took more than 5 minutes to warm up to a reasonable temperature. Even then, it was lukewarm and not enjoyable. No fridge or microwave in the room either. No free wi-fi (but you can get it if you sign up for the rewards program) The location is pretty good - walking distance to nice restaurants and a whole foods. Starbucks in the hotel. Overall - Meh for the price. read more

The front desk staff is really sweet and helpful! The breakfast is tasty. The rooms are clean and newly furnished. There is card key to access the upper floors which gives me some peace of mind. I love that they have a Starbucks attached to their lobby! read more

Sheraton Silver Spring Hotel - Hotels Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

I stayed 2 nights. The rooms are impeccable and service was delightful. Unfortunately my breakfast did not arrive to my room and my coffee pot leaked. They replaced my coffee pot and credited my bar bill to make up for my missing breakfast. They did not have to do that but it shows an outstanding level of service and care for their guests. This was our first and likely our last stay at this Sheraton. We had a 4 day conference here with about 200 attendees most of whom stayed at the hotel. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Meeting rooms were adequate. The restaurant served a mediocre, limited breakfast buffet with a similarly, limited menu. Lunch and dinner were more satisfactory and I really enjoyed the lump crab cake on a bun. However the food service was really awful due to the lack of sufficient staffing. Our last day there we waited an hour to get served our lunch and therefore actually delayed the start of the afternoon sessions! The staff were pleasant and tried to be accommodating within their limitations. read more
