Nighttime, as the sun goes down, the campgrounds are alive with impromptu jamming: Singing, instruments, and good times. I love you American River Music Festival! I will miss you and am sad 10 years is the end. Hopefully there will be a new incarnation?

However, there were hardly any cars, so we could do a slow, easy drive. It was still magical with lots of lights throughout this neighborhood. The standout feature was that the streets were lined with continuous strings of white lights that swagged down the participating areas, creating lit paths to follow. It was impressive! There were definitely some houses that went above, while others were more simple, but all delightful to see. Here & there, Christmas trees were in the middle of a court or roundabout. We aren't familiar with the neighborhood & lost track of how we meandered through, so next year we'll try to figure out a good route. We'll definitely plan to come back earlier during the next holiday season to enjoy the full experience.

Rockmont Lights in Natomas is all they say it is and more!…read more My friend, daughter and I wanted to check out Christmas lights last night and decided to check out Rockmont Lights instead of fighting the Fab 40's crowd. It was a first time for all of us and we weren't sure what to expect. We arrived around 7:30pm and it was already pretty busy, but we found some parking on a nearby street. Most of the streets surrounding Java Court were festively decked out and flooded with people - we made our way over to Java Court and I was so surprised to see a massive Christmas tree in the center of the court. There was Santa and The Grinch happily taking photos with families and a couple of fire pits that people were warming up by! They were handing out candy canes to passing cars and I believe they were even selling hot cocoa in front of a few houses! You can drive around the area, but I highly recommend walking it to fully experience the magic that Rockmont Lights has to offer! Make sure you bundle up though! Rockmont Lights definitely gives Dovewood Court and even some streets in the Fab 40's a run for its money! We will be visiting every year now and making it a new tradition!

I happened to see this advertised on Groupon and figured I'd check it out. It was normally about…read more$15 a ticket plus fees but I snagged a deal off of Groupon so it was pretty much free. Pro-tip: be sure to park further away as ANY event at the fairgrounds will cost you $10 and in CASH ONLY. In addition to the cover charge, you have to buy $5 vouchers which get you sample sized items from all vendors that were put on. It is somewhat of a glorified food truck event. There were only a few places that weren't food trucks. I didn't really like the voucher system as not all vendors accepted them for things like desserts. I ended up having to trade my voucher back for cash toward the end. It would just be easier to hand the vendors cash for all the items, but apparently the vendors only get like $3 out of the $5 paid for the vouchers. I guess the cover charge isn't enough for the event hosts? It's basically just like any other food festival but overpriced if you're paying for the cover charge and parking. It's not a huge event. You come, try a few things and leave or look at some of the little shops.

Some of the food was better than others, but this was there first one. I expect this festival to grow into an even better experience with more time. The parking and alcohol were expensive and I discussed this with the owner, who noted the city was in charge of alcohol and parking, not them. I was pleased to learn they would be using a different venue for the next one to bring down parking and alcohol costs. I will definitely be going back.

Thank goodness the band we came for started playing at 11 AM. Even then it was toasty already that we decided to leave early like before 1 PM. A suggestion is they need misters to combat the heat! We were at another different kind of festival where there were fan misters! My wife loved it! We ran into old friends. This year we didn't bother getting food bc the lines were crazy busy but my wife is on a special diet so she can't eat much of the food anyway. Many people around us bought food & the sizes looked smaller. We were even tempted to buy Gunther's freezes! Now that was super smart to have for sale, very refreshing! The teriyaki beef sammy was huge I heard this year. Inside the church gym they sold sushi & udon. Outside the food was for sale & the lines forked for days. So you must be patient. This year like the last year it was only a 1 day event. I think since Covid it has changed considerably bc before it used to be a 2 days event. I'm sure we will try again if we aren't gone traveling & the weather is cooler! I know fat chance that happens! It's like the live band Eastwind always brings the HEAT!!! I met up with friends and ran into friends I haven't seen in a while so this was a nice meet up. I arrived early as my friend has a table and we checked out the different food offerings and split up because the lines were going to be long so each person took on another order and got in line and bought the food to make the process faster. There was so much food to choose from I was so excited! We got Yakisoba noodles, Udon noodles, teriyaki grilled chicken, rice, and my favorite!! The beef sandwich it was huge! And Spicy tuna sushi rolls. They had desserts of all kinds for sell, but I didn't get any it looked amazing thought. It was a lot of people and long lines everywhere. I had a great time enjoying food with friends and just mingling. I will definitely come back next year it is well worth it and the food is fantastic! They also had a band performing ol'skool music. If you haven't been you have to check it out. You will not be disappointed.

But it was a good time. Nice small town festival with local vendors and lots of yummy local foods. There were two stages playing music at opposite ends. One in the Great Plate parking lot and the other right up at the corner of Central and 10th. As you can imagine central was closed for that entire stretch of road. The Lockeford Sausage was delicious and the El Toro Tacos from the taco truck did not disappoint. I got to sample wines from windmill ridge and Ramon rios wineries. There were also a couple of beer/microbrew spots as well. There was an activity tent for the kids, a produce area so you can sample and buy fresh local fruits and veggies, and even a chili cook off. Good times for the whole family.

They also had lots of vendors selling gift related items, to get you started on your holiday shopping, and offered complimentary samples as well! I tried some deliciously flavorful Mandarin Olive Oil, Balsamic and sweet Orange Blossom Honey from the Colwell Thundering Herd Ranch booth and purchased some cards made by a local artist from the Cloudy Art Studio booth! As well as entered into their raffle to win some beautiful hand towels and cards! For lunch I ordered some deliciously flavorful and perfectly sauced Eggplant Lasagna from Rubinos Ristorante Booth and will definitely be checking out their restaurant in Rocklin now! I would highly recommend attending the festival and don't forget to pick up your free Eggplant before you leave, I cannot wait to try mine and see what next year has in store!
