Excellent stop to cool off after wandering the Saturday Sacramento Midtown Market! SITREP Located right on K Street a block down from the Midtown Market's main channel up & down 20th Street, ForePlay is a fun stop that is full of LOTS of distractions of fun and drink to escape the heat. THE SETUP It would be imprecise to call ForePlay just an arade because it also brings in some of the fun carnie elements you'd catch at a State Fair. One of the more eclectic elements is the axe-throwing range! Tons o' fun. FULL BAR The most beneficial aspect of this stop was the full bar, which - after a couple of hours of heat in the sun while wandering the Midtown Market stalls - was a wonderful treat. Coool beer! There is random parking along the streets and some rare off-street parking lots, but limited parking during events. Sad to report this place wasn't somewhere I plan to return. Half the pinballs machines didn't work. Three of the machines got the ball stuck and wouldn't allow me to keep playing. With each game costing one to two dollars I felt a little ripped off I couldn't even finish my game of three balls. The pool table me and my friend played on was quite frankly disgusting. Tons of stains on the table and felt peeling. The balls all chipped and scratched. Also there was some issue with something being stuck when the game was first setup with my friend putting it together but I wasn't paying attention. He had to flag down a worker to help resolve the issue. I get it, things are pricey these days, so a newer business has to find a deal when they can, but at least find a way to improve an already overly used item. I don't expect brand new pool tables, but at least tables that look like the business cares Not to mention the ground and walls were just dirty and gross. Seemed like nobody is really cleaning the place. All the tables tops seemed sticky (if you know you know). The velvet lounge just kinda seemed like a random thrown together area, but maybe on a slow Monday it didn't feel right with lack of people. The workers were great and gave great service, just sadly all the half run down amenities that is supposed to make this place great, makes it pretty lackluster. Foreplay is a great neighborhood hangout. The staff is always friendly and there is a lot to. Pool, pinball, axe throwing, or just hang out in the lounge. No food but there are so many restaurants nearby. read more

Found this spot while we were in town to kill time in the evening. They had good drinks and a variety of games to play. Great for dates. It can get busy after 9-10pm on a weekend. But staff were quick and super nice. We chose to play pool $20/hr because the area is a little more private and we can play without bumping into people. The couches were cute, however, the chairs were a little dusty. Probably needs some attention there. And you'll need small bills to get quarters for the arcade games read more

This place is pretty chill with its old school arcade games, draft beer selection, and basement-chic furniture. I was surprised to hear it's been around two years. They have a great selection of video games, pool tables, air hockey, ace throwing, etc. There's cool beer on tap, cocktails, seltzers, and snack food. Beers are $7.50, cocktails between $8.00-$12.00 depending on your poison. Video games are $.25 to $1.00. Came for birthday. Tried the axe throwing. $25 for half an hour. I'm fairly athletic and can shoot a gun well, so I figured I wouldn't be terrible. I was correct. I stuck a bunch into the wood, but couldn't land a bullseye. Bf did better and got multiple bullseyes. $8.50 for beer. $2/game for pool. And everything else is $1. Genuinely some of the most apathetic / dismissive bartenders I've ever encountered. Long story short, our bartender seemed annoyed anytime we wanted to order something and was dead silent the entire time. She also didn't know how to make a Negroni, which was embarrassing af. Lil bro actually got on her phone to lookup the recipe. Speaking of drinks, they're also terrible, so there's that. Recently, I visited Sacramento for a conference, and one of my friends mentioned this location as a place to visit after the conference was done. I have gone axe throwing before and decided that this would be a great opportunity to visit and hang out with some friends. First, this place has to be one of the chillest locations ever for an axe-throwing venue. The people, the host, and the workers are all super polite and upbeat. They even take the time to help you get better at throwing your axe. Additionally, they have some great selections of beer on tap, and for those that don't drink, they have fountain drinks. If you aren't into axe throwing, and just want a place to hangout, this is a great location to do so as well. They have older arcard games, some pool tables, foosball, pop a shot, and more.
