I've taken family jewelry and coins to a few local jewellers to cash in on their value, because I needed the cash more than the jewelry. If I was rating Treasure Hunt on its own, I'd probably give it 2.5 stars. However, I give it an extra star in comparison to the other places I've gone - technically, I give it 3.5 stars, but that's not possible here, so they get an extra half a star from the website. I'm not sure if their prices are better or worse than anywhere else, because I never took anything to multiple jewelers to compare, and the prices of precious metals change every day. However, the jeweler closest to my home, to where I took the majority of my pieces, didn't tell me until my 3rd visit that the gems in my jewelry were worthless to them. If they had told me that from the time I first called them to inquire about selling my jewelry, I would have saved my gemstones, because I bought most of my jewelry for the gems and overall look, not the metal. Instead, I lost all those precious gems! Treasure Hunt is very up front about what they will be doing with your jewelry once you sell it to them, and that open dialogue made it easier to ask questions. They aren't secretive about their prices - other jewelers say their prices are posted for all to see, but I can never find them! I know what a spot price is, and how to adjust it for 14K, 10K, etc., gold, and I understand these businesses need to make profits, but what they give me needs to make sense. I'm on a fixed income, otherwise I would have saved my family jewelry. Treasure Hunt didn't make me feel like someone took advantage of me. But they did make me feel like my business wasn't terribly important, which is why I can't give them 5 stars. And they are out of my way to get to - their locations aren't convenient for me. Btw, people who publicly imply that a respected business is participating in illegal activity with zero proof are committing libel, *not* exercising free speech. If you have proof that a business is participating in illegal activity, you need to report it to the proper authorities, not post nasty comments on Yelp. read more

treasure hunt is in business to MAKE a profit when BUYING your scrap gold/silver. one visit, their offer was $5.5k for a 25" sterling tray. the next day it was $500 less because this very old custom-made tray had 'handles that were NOT SILVER' they said!!!! what a world, huh? read more

I've only been going to treasure hunt Monroeville, for 2 years. And I always buy not sell. One particular sales clerk, is always rude at the beginning, i've only been stacking precious metals for 5 years. How the heck am I more knowledgeable? What i'm purchasing then?The sales person. I have cashed in gold jewelry before so I understand the calculation of the weight versus the karat and the value of gold that day. I brought in jewelry that I had weighed beforehand and some broken jewelry that I had not weighed. I asked the person waiting on me to go over the first few pieces by weight and asked what percent of melt value they pay. She deflected a few times by saying "I can't go by what I originally paid for the item", " they don't pay a percentage; they only go by the value of gold that day.". But that can't be true because the store needs to decide what percentage they are paying also. It's a missing piece needed for the calculation. I made sure she understood. I knew what I was talking about. She weighed a few pieces and told me the dollar amount she could give me on each piece but deflected when I asked how much it weighed. She also said two or three times." listen I don't care if you sell your gold or not because I don't get paid on a commission.". I should have walked out right then but needed some money quickly to pay for a car repair. I only cashed in a few items and did not even get to the heavier pieces of jewelry that I had. DO NOT go here. They were not transparent about how they came up with their offer and would just not tell me how much those pieces weighed. Robinson location. Shady. Requested to see earrings. Refused to let me see them and charged me more than their worth. Sold 18k earrings for 10k earrings which disclosed after I bought them after asking her several times. This lady brushed all my questions off. She told me one price and when I returned no later than 30 minutes it was another price on both the earrings and store inventory earrings. Mindful I'm allergic to fake gold and these earrings I bought make my ears itchy. Very disappointed in the service, shadiness and store. Will never return. I've witness too. read more

RIP OFF! I went to the store on McKnight rd with my 90 year old mom. the woman kept us there so long telling us all these details about my moms jewelry. my mom was getting very tired and at the end the woman offered us 2,000.00 for the jewelry. my mom just wanted to take it but we had all intentions on going to 3 places before we decided. I said let's go to one more place and I saw the woman's face drop. she knew we wouldn't be back. we went downtown to the Clark building (I don't think they are there anymore) the clerk there didn't take long and offered us 3,000.00! my mom was very happy. read more

I am giving this review for the location in Robinson on Steubenville which doesn't appear to have a home. The promise of finding a very beautiful arrival there is well documented yet a bit beyond my scope. I was left a bit dizzy with the salesperson who aided me in seeing something promising but I have found that my tastes may be too elevated for this small community. If I have the opportunity to visit the other locations of this establishment I surely hope to plant my image as firmly onto anything that even comes close to what I tend to be invested in. Do you research before you go! I took in an expensive 18k gold watch to possibly sell. She came back from some back room after authenticating the watch with a total lowball number of $300. Then she lied right to my face about eBay completed listings on the sold price of this watch. It wasn't her fault but the woman in the back told her to lie. I did TONS of research before going in and I am a full time eBay seller! I was just trying to avoid selling expensive stuff on ebay because of scams. They told me that the completed listings sell for $300 to $600! I laughed and walked out knowing that the watch sells for $1500 to $2000 on a regular basis. Moral of the story... Do you research BEFORE going into treasure hunt or expect to get scammed! Never going back. read more

Absolutely a joke. Took a near 1/2 kt round diamond engagement ring, a 3-tier pear-cut diamond necklace (1/2 kt, 1/4 kt, 1/8 kt) - both 14 kt gold, and a 14 kt gold bangle and was offered.....$300. The reason? A "glut" of 1/2 kt round diamonds and no interest in pear cut diamonds. I looked at the prices on their diamond rings, into the $4000s and up for nothing special. Can't possibly recommend this place. The gold alone in these pieces was worth more than $300. If you don't want diamonds, don't advertise that you buy them. Just an altogether sickening experience that I will be sure to share with others. read more

Treasure Hunt pegs their silver prices to the spot price which is determined by the futures exchanges prices (i.e. paper silver). Anyone who has silver to sell is better off selling privately as you can command a much higher premium than by selling to a company like Treasure Hunt that uses the spot price for physical silver. Physical silver is much more rare than paper silver (obviously). Check out other sellers selling physical silver and there's always a premium. If Treasure Hunt's prices do give you the most, where's the premium at? When I called, there wasn't one...Unless you need money really quick for convenience, educate yourself on what you can really get for physical silver as it will more than likely be greater than what Treasure Hunt offers. read more

What a rip! Traded 1.07 oz of gold (3 1/4 oz coins and a 10 gram bar) for silver on 2 May 14, and they only gave me 54oz of silver in return when what I had should have netted me nearly 70oz of silver! Now I understand they have to make a profit, but they told me that I was under 1oz of gold and that's why it was lower than the 65 or so I was expecting back. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! read more
