If you love jewelry and great service, you'll love Orr's Jewelers. They have a few locations in the Pittsburgh area, but I have only been to the new Strip District showroom. The first time I went, I was looking for a watch to remember my father. Noel was so sweet and friendly to work with! I was liking 2 of the Cartier watches and I chose the Panthere to purchase that day. I went again for their official grand opening, to look for something for my milestone birthday coming up. I like to buy myself something special each year or a trip. I'd been looking all over NYC and online for some art deco pieces and found 2 beautiful Penny Preville pieces. I requested to work with Noel again because she is so friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. I initially was thinking I would get a bigger watch and once she showed me the art deco diamond Penny Preville pieces, I knew that's what I was going to buy! She has multiple pieces that you could make into a set or buy individually. I chose the larger ring and medium necklace from her 50th year of designing collection. I LOVE them! I visited Orr's Jewelry in the Strip District on July 29 to order a 5mm 18K yellow gold sculpted cable ring by David Yurman for my October wedding. I'd been looking for awhile and really loved this ring. I was excited to see they had it on display for me to try on. The display model was a size 10 and fit too tight, so I asked if they could order a 10.5. The salesperson said yes, disappeared upstairs for a while, and came back confirming it would take about a week. While he was writing up the invoice, he dropped the display ring on the floor while bagging it, and as he picked it up he said, "don't worry, this isn't your ring" and promptly put the ring into a clear ziplock bag with some paperwork. I incorrectly assumed this was for verification purposes once my ring had been delivered. On August 3 I got a call that the ring was ready. I picked it up on August 6. The ring was handed to me in the same ziplock bag with the same paperwork from the ring he'd dropped on July 29. While I was there, another employee asked if this was a "repair," which struck me as an odd thing to ask about a brand new ring ordered directly from the manufacturer. There was also no certificate of authenticity included, even though my fiance's previous David Yurman purchases came with one. I didn't think much of it at the time, but looking back, both of those things should have been red flags. Once I got home and looked at the ring closely, I found nicks, dings, and a rough spot I could feel when I ran my finger across it. Not what you expect from something brand new. I called the store about 40 minutes after leaving. I was told this shouldn't happen on a ring that hadn't even been worn yet, and to bring it back in. I was assured I wouldn't be stuck with it. The next morning I went back, hoping this was some kind of mix-up and that maybe I'd been handed the wrong ring by mistake. The employee I spoke with inspected it under a loupe and offered to open a repair claim. Before agreeing to that, I brought up what I'd noticed: the dropped display ring, the same bag and paperwork reused at pickup, and the word "repair" listed on my original invoice for what was supposed to be a new purchase. He went to check with the original salesperson and came back to tell me that the display ring had actually been resized for me, because ordering my correct size would have taken 20 weeks. A few things worth noting... 1) This was meant to be my wedding band and I was very upfront with that with my salesperson. 2) I was under the impression this was being order brand new in the correct size 3) David Yurman's own policy states this style cannot be resized, yet Orr's resized it anyway. At that point I asked for a full refund and returned the ring. I told him that if something is going to take 20 weeks, customers should be informed and allowed to make that decision themselves, rather than being quietly handed the display model and led to believe it's new. By not informing me of the alleged 20 weeks, the impression I was left with is that this organization prioritizes moving stocked inventory over giving customers what they actually asked for. He got defensive, insisted that's not how Orr's operates, and framed the refund as him doing me a favor, for returning a ring that was originally a half size too small, had been dropped and damaged by their own employee, then resized without repairing that damage, and presented to me as new. He did process the refund, however, the details regarding the "repair" were removed from the receipt he gave me for the refund. When I discovered the damage yesterday, I incorrectly was giving Orr's the benefit of the doubt. Today, after being told it would take 20 weeks to arrive, I ordered the ring from the manufacturer directly and discovered it will arrive much sooner than 20 weeks. It will be here tomorrow. I'll never shop at Orr's again. It's hard to trust an organization who feels comfortable enough to sell a groom a damaged & used wedding band while presenting it as brand new. read more

I took my Cartier Tank Française watch to Orr's for a routine battery replacement, assuming their status as a Cartier 'authorized partner' ensured professional handling. While the watch was fully functional when I dropped it off, it was returned to me inoperable. It became clear that, despite their authorized status, Orr's lacked the technical proficiency required to replace a battery and re-set a watch with the delicate Caliber 212P quartz chronograph movement. I ultimately had to take the watch to Cartier directly to repair the damage that Orr's caused. My point: If you do not have the expertise to handle a specific movement, it's OK to just say so rather than risk damaging a client's timepiece. read more

I walked into Orr's to get a watch battery and analysis of my grandfather's 65-year old watch. It is an Accutron, one of the first intricate battery-powered watches. The watch expert, Jeremy, couldn't promise that he could getting it working due to the delicate mechanics inside and if the old battery was corroded. While Jeremy had my watch, Molly offered me water and assisted me with looking at jewlery and found a braclet that actually fit my small wrists. I'd consider purchasing it later if the price is right. This place is high-end and even if I saved $$, I probably could only afford the lowest-priced items. They have many beautiful items. Another employee humored me and let me try on a $80k bracelet full of diamonds. I look pretty middle-class and I never felt unwelcome. Jeremy put a new battery and cleaned my watch for no charge. Tearfully I walked into the doors and immediately was helped and was given the advice to come in once the swelling was down and they would have my finger resized and my ring fixed. I was looking for a close jewelry and repair store that adjusted watch bands and I found a perfect one. My watch I bought was from Amazon and it needed the band adjusted so I took it in to Orr's jewelry store in Squirrel Hill and I cannot say enough great things about the professionalism and service I experienced that no other store these days would be that friendly. Someone named Steve (I don't know if he is the owner) but he was real friendly and nice then asked me what I needed help with and I asked if they adjust watches. He took me in the back and measured my wrist then I left it in for a day or so. I also expected to pay at least $15.00 or something for this kind of service but I was not charged anything to my surprise. It was an easy fix for a Casio watch. I highly recommend this jewelry store if you are looking for great service, excellent customer service and I wish I can give this business a beyond A+. This store also has police officers with high security armed to protect customers and all their employees from the store getting robbed too which makes everyone feel safe going in this jewelry store. I will for sure be back there since I live in that area and it's convenient to go to it. It's rare to find a place so close by where there is great customer service without having to go out of my way. Orrs Not: High End Prices, Low End Practices  I purchased an engagement ring about a year and a half ago from Orrs in Squirrel Hill. It was the most expensive thing I had ever purchased that I couldn't drive or live in. And it was an engagement ring, so it meant everything to me. We visited Henne Jewelers and Orrs. I had purchased watches from Henne before and they have always done a great job but my girlfriend really liked the setting at Orrs, so I decided to go with them.   Once she selected the setting, she left the rest up to me with to me with two caveats. We wanted a diamond that was "eye clean" (i.e. cannot see inclusions with the naked eye) and to the extent it had inclusions (which it would since I wasn't going flawless) that those inclusions be white and feathery and notblack. I made this exceptionally clear to the saleswoman who I worked with. When I say exceptionally clear, I mean mentioning it EVERY time I spoke with her or emailed with her. Once she found the size, color, and clarity I was looking for, I came in to see the diamond. My eyesight is bad (which I told my salesperson expressly), so I gave it a look and asked once again if it was "eye clean" and contained white feathery inclusions only. She promised it was and told me she couldn't believe they found such a nice stone so I gave her a bunch of money and took my dream ring home.  About a week after we got engaged, my now fiancé told me that she could see a black inclusion. To say I was shocked and embarrassed is a huge understatement. I had one job. Get a ring that was "eye clean" and white feathery inclusions only. I actually told her I thought maybe it was dirt and that Orrs told me it was eye clean and contained only white feathery inclusions. I told her she was wrong. She was not.  We showed it to several other people who could clearly see the black inclusion. Now, I'm super embarrassed and pissed. So, we took it to another jeweler who said it was not eye clean and that the inclusions were, in fact, black.  I contacted Orrs and was extremely nice given the situation. At this point, my salesperson who pre-sale called me at least twice a day was suddenly much less available. So, we took the diamond in to make sure it wasn't dirt or dust. My salesperson was not there but another salesperson was and told me straight up that it was NOT eye clean and that the inclusions were black. Now we are dealing with less than the truth. This a high end jeweler? But, she said I would have to come back in and deal with my salesperson.   I sent several more emails asking how this could have happened. And never once did Orrs admit that they sold me something other than what I had asked for and was promised. This despite the fact that I had emails and voicemails from their salesperson telling me in no uncertain terms that the diamond I bought was eye clean and no black inclusions. The reason I'm bothering to take the time to write this a year plus later is because Orrs had the chance to explain how they could have told me one thing and sold me something else altogether. Something completely different and lower end than I asked for. That's as bad as it gets. Their owner's solution was to sell me a diamond that was $5,000 more. No thank you.  Funny thing about Orrs is their pre-sale persona versus their post-sale persona. Pre-sale they told me how they reject like 95% of the VSI diamonds and they get the finest diamonds around. They promised me an eye clean diamond with white inclusions and then when they got caught, they said well it's really hard to find such diamonds in VSI. What?? Talk about backtracking. Shouldn't have put in in emails and voice messages. Shouldn't have discarded the truth.  In any event, I ended up returning the diamond but having to keep the setting because it had sentimental value. I could say a lot more about the ethical practices at Orrs but not worth my time. Our special occasion was ruined by Orrs and I just wanted to share this story so nobody else would have to experience the same thing. It was a total mess. They were not honest, ethical or professional.  Harsh but 100% true.  Epilogue. I went to Henne and they bent over backwards to help me out and, frankly, saved the day. Turns out there are eye clean diamonds with no black inclusions. They do exist. And I got a better diamond for the same price. Save yourself some headaches and avoid Orrs. read more

So I walk into Orr's for the first time ever, on a Saturday morning right after they open, with a coffee in my hand, three day's growth of beard on my face, wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and a stained baseball cap, and they treat me like a king! Now, I did plop down a Rolex that just needed a new spring bar, but the royal treatment started before that, as soon as I walked in. Marcella took my watch to the back room, left me to look at beautiful new Rolex's, and then brought mine back out, fixed up as good as new, and didn't charge me a penny! I couldn't have been more pleased! From reading other reviewer's comments, and from my own experience, I don't think you need to bring in a Rolex to be treated well there, either. read more

My husband and I used Orr's for my engagement ring and our wedding bands. My engagement ring is a vintage ring that was my grandmother's. Orr's did an amazing job resizing it and rhodium plating it. The ring looked better than I could ever imagine. Orr's also designed and made a wedding band to replicate my grandmother's. My cousin wears her actual wedding band. Using only photos of my grandmother's wedding band and my engagement ring as a guide, Orr's made a custom wedding band that is exactly like my grandmother's. They also worked really well with my husband to help him pick out the perfect simple wedding band. We've also been back to have three rings rhodium plates along the way. This experience happened a few years ago and I emailed Orr's to let them know and never heard back from them. Since I am still left with a damaged engagement ring (that I noticed EVERY DAY) because of their incompetence and disregard for their customers I feel it's time to let everyone know just how awful these people are. My first hint that their customer service was subpar: I brought in a Rolex, given to me by my grandmother, that needed to have the crystal replaced. I handed it to the woman behind the counter and she called someone over immediately as she was being very obvious that she thought it was a fake. The associate she called over assured her it was real. She did not apologize and continued to treat me poorly. When it was finally fixed they called and left a message for me and when I came to get it they couldn't find it. I was gracious considering they had lost an heirloom Rolex and agreed to give them time to locate it. I called them later and they said they had located it and didn't someone call me. No. No one called me. However, the real issue I have with Orr's and the reason I tell everyone I know to avoid them like the plague is that I brought my engagement ring in to be cleaned and rhodium dipped to look extra beautiful for my one year anniversary. When I brought my ring in it had a knife edge. When they returned it it did not. When I brought this up they said their jeweler would never do something like that. When I insisted this was an issue they accepted the ring and I needed to leave it there. I thought it would be simple to put the knife edge back on. When I called to check a week later, since Orr's doesn't call you to let you know anything about your jewelry, the woman who answered said there was a note on my file that my center stone was off center. Hilarious considering the fact that when I had noticed my center stone was loose a few months earlier Orr's was where I took it to be tightened! When I picked up my ring I discovered they had added the knife edge back on by FILING DOWN the sides of my ring. Leaving it sharp and noticeably misshaped. The note on the receipt even said "customer thinks we took knife edge off" completely disregarding their own responsibility for ruining my ring. It's still sharp and after consulting a number of other jewelers there is nothing that can be done because they filed it too thin. They ruined the ring my husband proposed to me with. Every day I notice how sharp the side is and I feel sick over how they treated me. I will never return to Orr's and I urge everyone else to stay away as well. read more

If this store is anything like its sister store in Sewickley they will never see my face again! I came in to have some jewelry cleaned and inspected and told them I was interested in a watch. They did inspect it and clean it. As far as shopping goes., all they told me was to look around the store. No one offered to help me in my search. I felt like I was in a department store. The only plus the offer is a private lot which comes in handy when you can find a place to park in the neighborhood. I did a cursory look around and they thanked me for my visit. I've had boh good and not so good experiences with Orrs and want to give them the benefit of the doubt BUT will say that for the prices paid and the level of service that should be commensurate with said prices.....you really need to be a bit more pushy and forceful to make sure their service matches your expectations than I am comfortable with. That said, they are authorized dealers for some of the best brands but I suppose it's safe to say that you shouldn't assume 5 star service will come your way. While I was in Pittsburgh I stopped at ORR'S Jewelers looking to purchase my first Rolex watch. I knew very little about the watch itself. First walking in the staff were extremely friendly. Marcella was the one stuck with assisting me. She went above and beyond helping me. Like i said I knew very little about Rolex watches she was extremely knowledgeable and very professional. Above all she was a genuine polite person. I decided on purchasing the Rolex Submariner because of my Scuba diving background. A little intel for you first time buyers, there is a waiting time to receive your watch, there in high demand, so if you're interested in getting one I suggest you go to ORR'S Jewelers and request the watch you prefer. Rolex will not allow their retailers to order a particular watch. They receive watches weekly and when the watch you prefer arrives they will contact you. I hope this post was helpful. After having a bad experience at Jared's, I came here looking for an engagement ring. My experiences between the two stores could not have been more different, and Orr's was clearly on the right side of that divide. The sales rep Janene really worked with me (who knows nothing about jewelry) to find the perfect stone/ring combo, and to not exceed my price range. Unlike Jared, I felt like she was receptive to my particular needs, patient, and wanted to take the time to get it right. There's a real personal touch at this place that for obvious reasons, you won't find at the corporate chains. After settling all the paper work, I was told the ring would be ready in about a month. Around that time, Janene emailed me to say that the ring was in, but they were so dissatisfied with it, they didn't even want me to bother coming in. They instead had another made, and were sure to work within the timeline I'd set for the proposal. Again, very different from the lack of customer service at Jared. When I finally picked it up, it was perfect. However, it did need to be resized. My fiancee took it in, and they had it resized for her within 24 hours. Overall, a great experience. Today, we visited your Sewickley store, while out running around the village, looking at houses. We did not plan to make a purchase today. I'm still on the fence about what kind of wedding band I'm going to want to wear for the rest of my life! So, as planned, we left empty-handed. However, I wish to say that we will indeed be back. David helped us and he is absolutely fantastic. He spent a lot of time with us and even had my engagement ring cleaned. He showed us everything in the store, gave us all the information, even encouraged me to take a pic of how the ring looked on my finger. I never felt pressured, in fact he gave me honest feedback about how certain rings looked on my finger or how they looked with my engagement ring. I cannot say enough nice things about the amazing customer service we received today. It makes me wish we had come to you first when we purchased our engagement ring. All of the staff was so welcoming of a same-sex couple and made us feel right at home and helped us design the rings of our dreams. The battery in my Fossil watch died, so I took it here to have it replaced. I didn't even buy the watch there. I was expecting to pay between $10-12 but, to my surprise, the associate said not to worry about it. He gave me a new battery free of charge. That's some good customer service. Don't be intimidated by their massive granite storefront--the people inside are warm and friendly and incredibly helpful no matter what your business is. I brought in my handmade engagement ring to be sized down (after a terrible experience at Forbes Jewelry across the street--see my review for that) and the woman who helped me treated me like I brought in the Koh-i-Noor. Their repair shop will do anything, from fine jewelry to handmade jewelry to watch batteries. This place has such genuinely sweet employees! I brought my antique engagement ring to be resized the day after my fiance proposed. It almost fell off my finger and into the snow as soon as I said yes, so sizing was important to me! Since the ring's appraisal noted it had 5 chips in the diamonds, I was slightly embarrassed to bring it to such a fancy looking jeweler. I cannot notice the chips at all and think the ring is beautiful, and was so happy when their staff kept complimenting me on the beauty of the ring (They went out of their way to do so). I'm sure they sell much more flawless and expensive engagement rings, but there was no judgement or sales pressure whatsoever. I was also complimented on my "dainty" hands...Not something I've heard before, but the genuine compliments made my heart melt from such nice people. It was $65 for resizing (from a 7.5 to a 4.5), and I think they threw in a cleaning since the ring looked much cleaner and sparkled more than when I brought in (I didn't even know it was "dirty!). It took about 5 days, which I think was extremely reasonable for an antique, old European cut, diamond ring with such a drastic re-sizing. It now fits perfectly! read more

The jewelers at Orr's did a fantastic job fixing my wedding ring when i lost a stone. The ring was initially bought at Zale's, and when I lost a diamond, I initially took it to the Monroeville Zale's. The store refused to honor the warranty that I had purchased. They wanted to send my ring out for a minimum of 6 weeks for an estimate and repair. After getting the runaround from Zale's, I decided to take my ring to a real jeweler. For a reasonable price, Orr's checked and cleaned both my Christopher Designs engagement ring and my Zale's wedding ring and replaced the missing diamond in my wedding ring. More importantly, when I had a death in my family, they RUSHED my repair so that I could have them for my trip out of town. THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! I am a fan and my fine jewelry will now only be taken to Orr's. Both rings look brand new! read more

I took my Cartier Pasha in to Orr's for repairs. A friend of mine who is in the jewelry business recommended them. When I went to pick up my watch, I was told that there was an error on my invoice. I was charged 25% MORE than the original invoice because I was only referred there and it wasn't my friends watch. A completely classless move. I would wear a Timex before I ever bought anything from this place again. read more
