Peter FELIX has been caring for my 2.5-acre property on Peconic Bay for three years. Part of the property is wooded and dominated by straggly-looking old black oaks. The salt air is hard on them and the ground is basically sand with a thin layer of soil on top, built up from decayed leaves. Peter has been fertilizing all my oaks, ornamental trees, fruit trees, and shrubs with his spring and fall concoctions. Each time, he spends hours actually injecting the ground, all over. I have begun to notice that my woods are actually looking pretty! The foliage on the oaks--fifty/sixty feet up--looks beautifully lush and healthy. The branches look full. I am surprised that I can SEE the results. I had thought that, with respect to the woods, I would have to have faith I was doing the right thing. Elsewhere, I see that the leaves on my hollies look shiny. A crepe myrtle is branching with beautiful grace. I transplanted an enormous holly--a big risk--it thinned out, but now it has bright green leaves on the tips of all the twigs. It seems to have made it. I believe it is thanks to Peter. Peter is a master tree surgeon. When he was up in the bucket pruning for me, he found a long crack way up in the main trunk of a tall oak that is important to the landscape. Storms here tend to twist off the tops of trees; it looked like this one would be the next to go. Peter strapped it right away, temporarily, until he could get back and put gigantic staples across the gash. That was close to two years ago; the tree looks good. Peter himself, and men in his crew, are excellent pruners. He just cleaned up a shad close to my property line. My neighbor remarked that it had been to the beauty parlor. Peter treats my property for insect and disease prevention. He is a master diagnostician. When I first acquired the property, someone else told me the oaks had gall wasps and should be treated. I could see the cankers. Peter looked at the trees and said those could be old cankers from a prior infestation, not active now. He explained that the treatment is very hard on the tree, one shouldn't do it if not necessary; it is better to fertilize and make the tree healthier and better able to withstand the wasps in the future. He sent a sample to the State agricultural service lab, and sure enough, he was right. Whenever I see an issue, I email him a photo and he responds. Peter has taken care of the trees in my New York City garden for something like 15 or 20 years. I have two, old London Planes, an ancient crab apple we are keeping going for its charm, and a number of ornamentals. The challenges are different; the results are the same. This is our second time that we hired Tree Health. The first time we had the pleasure to meet Peter Felix, the owner of Tree Health, and the second time, his son, Hunter, outstanding as his father. They are both very professional, very reliable and very experienced in their ability to know what has to be done in all the aspects of trimming our trees. We will continue to use this service every time nature calls for their expertise. The team showed up early and on time which is always a plus. They trimmed and removed dried branches as well as big ones from our three Norwegian Spruce trees and one maple tree. The job was complex, the driveway is narrow, and bringing the bucket truck to the backyard was not too easy, but they tackled the problem. One of the trees was next to a neighbor's house, being a challenge to maneuver the bucket truck, but they confronted the obstacle. Once the job was done, they cleaned up very neatly. We have been employing Tree Health, owned by arborist Peter Felix, since 2017. In that time, Peter has completed a number of complicated, difficult jobs. These have included removal of a huge tree which was almost impossible to access, trimming and removing other trees in problematic situations, and maintaining the overall health of the remaining trees. He actually saved a beloved Japanese maple tree that was damaged in a storm, by performing extensive cabling "surgery" that knit the two halves of the damaged tree together. Initially we knew of a neighbor's property that looked very well cared for and discovered that they used Peter Felix / Tree Health. At our home the trees and shrubs had not been pruned for too, too long. We called and Peter came quickly to survey our property and gave us an estimate to do the work. They came with all the pertinent equipment including a bucket truck to reach the taller trees and a box truck with a large chipper. In our opinion they did an outstanding job shaping and pruning our trees and shrubs, also in saving our arborvitaes. They really know what they are doing when it comes to trees and plant health. Very impressed with this company. They removed two very large trees from the front of my house in Bellmore. Both were in precarious positions - basically on top of the house, growing between electric and cable wires, and lots of very valuable landscaping right where it would be easiest to drop the branches. They took time and care to remove the trees properly and safely. They avoided damaging my home, my sprinkler system and landscaping. I would like to recommend Tree Health as I am impressed with their work and professionalism. Over a month ago, I began researching tree companies as I was looking to have a 30+ year old maple tree pruned.
