Hidden gem of dingle. Quick, quiet, affordable, great lunch food option when you are not up for a pub.

Since they don't take reservations, we kept walking but were curious enough to look up the reviews. After seeing how highly rated it was, we decided to come back when we were ready for lunch. I'm so glad we did. We timed it perfectly, avoided the line, and were seated immediately. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food absolutely lived up to the hype. We ordered the chicken goujons, fish tacos, The Fish Box, and the seafood chowder. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You could tell the seafood was incredibly fresh. What impressed us even more was the value. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes we received. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy a great meal. Located just a block from the marina, The Fish Box was one of our favorite lunches in Ireland. If you find a line, don't let it scare you away. It's popular for a reason.

Folks were lined up already at 12:15pm so I joined the queue at 12:20pm after seeing the Harry Clarke stained glass windows at the chapel across the street. We were seated promptly and ordered the shared box (fish box times 2) which came out quickly and we were done by 1:15pm! - shared fish box - 3/5 - I have to say my favorite part of the fish box was the salad and the mushed peas. It came with fried cod, tempura prawns, Cajun calamari and another fried fish item. I've had better fried fish, calamari, and tempura prawns and didn't really care for the chips (not crunchy enough?) I'm glad I tried Fish Box and am especially glad I didn't wait 1.5 hours to try it!

Purportedly, fishers dock right across the road and freshly caught seafood comes straight to this restaurant -- mere yards away from the water. When we rolled up, the queue to order was out the door and down the footpath. It took perhaps 15 minutes to just make our way to the till to place our orders for two fish and chips and a Heineken (desperately welcome, given the unseasonably hot weather we encountered). The seating situation is a bit chaotic; we staked out some standing room in the back room to swoop in on the first table that opened up. Good luck to those not cutthroat enough to seat themselves as soon as an opportunity presents itself. It took a bit of patience and hand-waving to flag down a server to clear the plates of the party that were sat before us, but eventually we succeeded. It took two separate servers two independent trips to rid ourselves of empty plates and glasses and secure a cursory wipe to the sticky table surface. Another ten minutes or so went by before our dishes arrived. I can attest that our fish seemed exceedingly fresh and just out of the fryer. It was flaky, steaming, and lightly battered. Totally believable that it had just come from across the street earlier that day. The chips, however, were disappointingly lukewarm and flaccid. No amount of salt and vinegar could help their case. Given the limited dining options in the immediate vicinity, I can see why Harrington's is so popular. I'm glad to have tried it, but wouldn't go out of my way to return.
